JuiceDefender Problem - Desire Themes and Apps

Hi
I have installed JuiceDefender (and ultimatejuice) and I am having a problem with it.
Sometimes when I turn the screen back on, the Mobile Data connection will not re-connect, it shows "Connection Failed" on the "Wireless & Data Network" page.
I cannot clear this until I reboot the phone.
I know that this is a known issue on JuiceDefender (on the FAQ it says that it is a known issue with Android 2.1), and I have tried the remedies (changing from 3G to 2G and back again, and entering Airplane Mode) however the only thing that works is rebooting the phone.
Is there any other way I can "flush" the network connection and allow it to connect without a reboot.
This only sometimes happens, most of the time it reconnects with no problems.
Stu

If you join the google group JuiceDefender you can get hold of the latest betas, for me these have been re-enabling the data connection a lot more reliably.

Oh this is a nice tip. Just installed the lates beta as well. Seems to have a few more options and some root method to switch apn on/off. Let's see how this works, but it's looking promosing.

Connection wi-fi still uses 3G--HELP!!

I think the subject says it all.
After I connect via Wi-Fi, the phone still connects via 3G...
What am I doing wrong?
HastaSSSS
Goto wifi settings and set the access point to connect to "Internet" instead of "Work".
Some app will force "Internet" connection and not just use the active one.
I had the same problem.
Try going to Start/settings/connections/wifi/advanced/power mode and slide to the far left (best performance)
None of the suggestions works...
I have to use Nodata to block the 3G connection, otherwise, even connected via Wi-Fi, it would still syncronize the 3G
No other suggestions, guys?
HastaSSSS
Yeah I have the same problem. I go into Comm Manager, switch off the data connection, make sure the WIFI connection is set as 'the internet' instead of 'work', and I even tried the suggestion above about setting the power level to best performance. Still, if I click send/receive, it opens the data connection and ignores the WIFI completely.
If anyone has a solution to this, PLEASE help!
Seriously, M'soft and HTC are useless...I love the design and features of this phone, but there are so many things like this which are very poorly thought out.

Wierd, but this solved the problem for me.
Previous, the connection was made, but no data to the wifi-lan.
Slider to "best-performance" and it worked.

APNDroid doesn't work fine...

Hi,
I'm a Nexus One user, i'm tying APNDroid to lower my data traffic and I have a problem.
When switching to ON, internet does not up (but apn entries corrected to their normal values). When i reset the phone (or enter in flight mode and back to normal) internet works well.
I've tried also the widget Toggle Data with the same results.
Anyone with the same problem? Any possible solution?
Thanks in advance.
APNDriod works just fine here
It does note, however, that latent connections may not clear. So, if they never clear (so you reboot), you cant connect after toggling on
Dear All,
I've the similar experience. I'm using the 3G network in the street. When I back to home, I'll switch-off the 3G network that using the APNdroid and then switch on the Wifi. When I go out, I'll switch-off the Wifi and then open the 3G network again, but it's not work, until I restart the phone again. Is it the Wifi already allocate the resources that cannot release? or I need to make some changes in the phone setting?
Thanks a lot! :-D

I have seen a few people report the same thing - maybe report it to the developer? I don't really use mobile data at the moment, so it does not affect me.
it won't work immediately after I re-enable it, but give it 1 or 2 minutes then it will work again.
I actually have the same problem. Quite annoying. Hope a fix for this comes out soon.
I had the same problem.. and I notice no need to restart or reboot.
Just switch on the wifi and off again and while the APNDroid is on then the connection should be back on.

This didn't work for me today...
Normally it does.
I had to do a reboot until data connection worked again.
I have exactly the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623592
No solution yet...
same here!
even if I don't use apndroid, just going outside wlan area doesn't brings me 3g back (any connection), that's really bad
this morning switching on apndroid no connection came back within 20 min. After i switched flight mode it worked immediately.
Do all n1 users having this issue?

Dont use this myself, but I wonder if the developer could add an optional toggle in/out of flight mode to fix this. that should terminate any existing connections too.
Dunno why really, but i dont have the issue, i have the same phone provider like LokoYaw and i dont have the problem.
Im using cyano5.0b3+kernel .29 highmem and no issues by now (and never with my magic too)
Bye all!
The wifi trick (turning it on/off) works well with me.
is this a software problem or N1 problem ?
before using APNDroid I manually edit APN to turn edge on/off and sometime experienced the same problem. Edge symbol just doesn't apprear, have to restart N1.
Anyway, thanks for the tip. I'll try change mode/turn wifi on-off to see what works for me.
I'm here to report that I suffer from the exact same problem, and have been mistaking it all day as the fault of my carrier's EDGE.
But toggling wi-fi on/off does work. Hooray.

Well, it WAS working fine, untill the update. Now it doesnt any more :S
The wifi trick sometimes works for me--it seems that if the phone doesn't detect any wifi in the area, then it doesn't work. Hit and miss. :/ And I really need the app, too, since like some of you I don't have an unlimited data plan.
Got the same issue here in Italy with TIM operator.

Dunno if you realise or not, but using APNDroid for this purpose is kinda pointless, Android shuts down the mobile data connection when it connects to a WLAN.

[Troubleshoot Discussion] all SGS WiFi problems here!

i dont think this is a SGS specific problem, possibly an app is doing this but cant figure out which one, during the day usually when i take out of sleep the wifi will come on for a moment then switch off, other times it stays on.
I have uninstalled Locale, and now use tasker but there are no settings I have entered for wifi, is there a way of figuring out which app could be doing this?
I have the some problem and don't know what it is
You can go to options and then go to wifi advanced options
(I have a Dutch phone so i don't know to correct name on English language on your phone)
you can select "never go to sleep" or somthing like that.
But is still have the problem
I'm also finding that I have to detach/reattached the wifi connection quite regularly. I'm using it on a 'n' network.

this is bug in the system.. it is the location doing.. it any app trying to get your location.. you are supposed to be able to turn it off by unchecking use wireless to determin location under wifi.. but it does not always seem to work.
I think the problem is with Google Maps (or Navigation, I don't remember). When I open it and starts to fix my location, the wifi will turn on althought I disabled in the settings the use of wifi networks to help the GPS. In theory, when you close GMaps/Navigation the wifi will turn off, but sometimes it will just leave it on.
It doesn't happen with other GPS apps like GPS Status, etc...
Will check what happens with Sygic later!
yes i have also tried unchecking check wireless networks for location, maybe switch off latitude?
its really bugging me as sometimes it gets stuck on switching off and you then cant do anything, and if you really do need wifi have to restart phone.
edit: switched off latitude, see if this is the culprit
I don't think Latitude has anything to do. I never used it and I have the same problem.
i have the same problem! its sooo annoying...
For the record, i'm using firmware XXJF3
If someone is using a newer firmware please check if the bug is already fixed.
not fixed in jf5 or jf7
just had to reboot stuck turning off. if anyone has a workaround or what service to kill to do so without rebooting please post.
I have all sorts of problems with wifi... keeps turning itself on when I disable it, keep losing connection, drains battery, locks the phone up (i think its wifi doing this) etc...
I tried wifi fixer app, and you can see how many times it disconnects/reconnects even after disabling sleep etc

i have location with wifi on. it disconnects automatically only when i'm not in the range of a saved network. Then it will connect to this network and stay connected
Any one else have any theories on how to fix this?
I think the problem is with the "Use wireless networks" setting not taking any effect on the phone (I have it disabled).
Having wifi turned off, if I open some GPS app wifi will turn itself on automatically. I think it is because it searches for nearby APs to fix the location more quickly. The problem is that the location is not as exact as with pure GPS. When I quit the app wifi will turn off automatically. This happens even if I have unchecked the above system setting.
A workaround that worked for me was to disable wifi AFTER opening the app that uses GPS, and the location was more precise.
Note that I tried this with Google Maps and Sygic Mobile Maps, so it seems like a system-level bug rather than app bug.
Anybody has noticed the same behavior?
My wifi is very annoying.
Every few minutes while I use e.g. the internet browser the connection just dies.
It often happens during loading of a web page or updating in the weather app.
My solution so far is to tun wifi off and on again, then it will work for another few minutes before it suddenly hangs again.

I have exactly the same issue. Which network system do you use? My router supprts "n" standard, maybe that cause the issue?
I think I might have fixed it by first turning it on and then turning it off(wireless location that is). Never managed to open up Google Maps before without the phone enabling wifi as well.
EDIT: Oh, and I'm running the custom ROM from Modaco.

Tried it on stock ROM version JF3 and still the same issue.
Regarding MCR, I didn't see in the info on modaco forum anything related to this GPS issue, maybe Paul fixed something without knowing?

Could be, but most importantly - Google Maps is finally usable again(for me at least)! Did you enable the "Use Wireless Networks" option and then open up google maps or did you just toggle it quickly?

T-Mobile My Account App Disables Wifi...can't reenable

I just got the mytouch4g, and was playing with the apps. I opened the my accounts app and it said something about it only works over cell network and not wifi, and that wifi will be disabled until the app is closed.
Well, now I can't re-enable wifi. And apps don't truely "close" on android.
Wifi is turned on, network is remembered from previous use, password is correct. I can see the network but I can't connect to it. Wifi status remains "Disconnected"
Try hitting "forget" when you hold down you network name and try reconnecting it again that's what i had to do. Hope this helps
thanks, looks like that did it. first bug encountered...i hope any others are as easily resolved.
Also, check the market for an upgraded version of My Account. The newer versions do not require it to disable WiFi to operate.

Atrix Google Market Activates HSPA+ Data While on Wifi, Causes Wifi to Stop Working

UPDATE: When comparing to my coworker's phone (who doesn't have this problem), we went through all settings/etc and matched them up exactly. The only major difference between our two phones was that I was running Launcher Pro. When I uninstalled it, this problem went away completely. HSPA+ did get activated in the Google Market, but it didn't hinder my browsing experience. Anyone else having this issue, are you running Launcher Pro? And if so, if you uninstall it, does it fix the problem?
I know that there is an ongoing issue that Motorola is looking into concerning HSPA+ data connectivity dropping out. This is not that issue.
Here's the scenario:
- Atrix 4G purchased on release date
- Using 4G SIM card
- No SIM unlocks
- Have 4Gig Tethering plan
- Set to AT&T US HSDPA APN (have tried AT&T US Tether and AT&T US wap.cingular)
- Connected to Wifi
- Issue occurred prior to rooting and after rooting.
- Issue has occurred since day 1 of using device.
Issue: Launching Google Market and browsing around will eventually start showing connection timeouts, typically after looking in a few app descriptions.
What I notice:
- When connected to wifi, the cell data connection gets turned off (i.e. the grey up/down arrows are no longer showing). I assume this is how it is supposed to work (since if on wifi, no need for cell data connection).
- When launching the Google Market application, and after browsing for a few seconds, I notice the cell data connection doing something (grey arrows come back, and then will briefly show black arrows, then back to grey).
- Once the issue occurs, I attempt to browse in Dolphin or even the XDA application, and it doesn't connect.
- Turning wifi off then back on fixes wifi until I try Google Market again.
- Turning cell data off allows Google Market to work fine with no issue.
Thoughts:
- It seems that when connected to wifi, the cell data connection should be getting overridden regardless.
- Somehow Google Market is causing the cell data connection to activate and messing up wifi
- This happened on a 3G SIM and a 4G SIM (so it doesn't seem like a connection problem, simply a software issue)
- I have a coworker who has an Atrix as well and does not have this problem when connected to wifi
- I have other devices connected to the same wifi without issue (thus not a wifi router issue)
Any and all help is truly appreciated and thank you in advance!
Nice first post and seems pretty accurate. I switched on airplane mode and then just enabled wifi to test this out and had a zen-like market experience. Not a single hang up. Hopefully this will help lead to a fix. Thanks.
Have you tried switching off your data connection before connecting to wifi?
I had a similar issue where my wifi would be on simultaneously with my data connection so I just hit airplane mode whil wifi was on that turned off both wifi and data then I re-enabled wifi (airplane mode still on) waited for it to connect then I turned airplane mode off. Never had the issue again

Hopefully motorola looks into this as this is my only true gripe at the moment. I go to dl an app and it stops at a random percentage, I go back into market and see the app is paused. I cancel and Redownload and usually works. I also get a timeout error almost every time I go into market and have to choose retry or close.

Turning off data connection does solve the problem, however that is only a stop-gap and I have to leave the data connection off (then remember to turn it back on when I leave my wifi area). No other application I use has this issue, so I would expect it's a software problem, but it doesn't seem to affect every Atrix owner.

Exactly, those are my experiences as well when on wifi with cell data not explicitly turned off.
UPDATE: Turns out that when factory resetting, the market app when first run works perfectly (doesn't try to activate cell data when on wifi). The problem is that the market app auto-updates to a version that has this problem.
Here's hoping for a fix soon. Thankfully Juice Defender gives me an automatic way to handle the cell data issue since when it detects it's on wifi, it turns off cell data so I don't have to.
Update
I posted an update in the original post. It seems Launcher Pro was the culprit.
