I am trying to replace htc dialer with a vanilla one (not phone/contacts app!). Does anyone know which files do I have to push for that? Telephony.apk (from Cyanogen) didn't work (htc dialer remained working)
Thanks
you could just download the app ' DIALER ONE ' or may be ' NUB DIAL ' from the market, both work fine and once you adjust the settings to make them themed black you have a vanilla dialer and contacts app ..
Both dialer one and Nub dial look like the HTC's T9 dialer. I am not looking for "that", i already replaced vanilla phone app (including the dial interface).
I am looking for "in-call app", being activated when calling or being called.
Its a bit tricky to replace the desires apps with stock asop dito. There is some dependencies that also need to be installed.
I know it is. But that's what I trying to find out
ahh so its not just the dialer your after..
only thing i can sugest is to mail one of the devs responsible for one of the dialer apps,
wysie_soh is the dev behind nub dialer, he is always about on twitter

Hi vanja, did you manage to find the vanilla dialer for the desire? I'm looking for it too, preferably the one with tabs on top that consist of "Dialer", "Call Logs", "Contacts", "Favourites".

We're not looking for the same thing
You are looking for a vanilla Phone app. Many ROMs have it, including mine http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696803

Hi all,
What am I missing here? I've used three different dialer skins (right now I'm using a version of the big-button one), and the "redial" button on the bottom right of the screen doesn't seem to work.
I'm talking about the button that (in most versions that I've seen) has the phone icon with an arrow pointing away from the phone, to the right.
When I bring up the dialer, it says "Last call: xxx-xxxx", so I'd like a way to dial that number again with one touch instead of having to go to the call history, which is what I have to do now.
Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.
you need to be more specific about which dialer you are using, there are many. Have you tried just hitting the "talk" hardbutton, after pulling up the dialpad. It redials the last number on the screen for me.
If it doesn't then you should try Paul Hammon's big button dialpad for mogul over at pdaphonehome.com. every stock functions are retained, including smartdial and redial.
i tried multiple skins and ran into that same issue.. literally 20 skins easily.. i tried paul's skin and all my questions were answered.. the skin works flawless and I personally love it.

I am running into the same issue with tons and tons of different skins...such as the standard iphone, retail iphone, eten, marshall, and lots of other ones..... REDIAL just DOES NOT WORK!! I am sure everyone is experiencing these issues.
have we figured out any solutions yet?
The first reply was correct -- all of these other skins are based on a non-sprint dialer, so some things don't work (like redial, but more importantly, 911!)
Use Paul Hammons Touch dialer and it'll be fine. It's just as skinnable, with the only down-side that I've seen thusfar that the contact picture is slightly smaller.
I have a dialer skin that everything works correctly, including # codes. Search for Mogul Big Button Dialer. It is an improved version of the Kaiser skin.

This is the same Paul Hammons dialer that Skatsev spoke of in the previous reply. The original thread is on pdaphonehome.com
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6800-xv6800/91652-sprint-native-big-button-dialer-theme-here.html
for those of you who want a different dialer skin other than the default one on the phone, and you don't like paul's version, there is another skin that i found on xda this morning that works perfectly on the mogul
it allows the use of the codes as well (example ##778, etc...) and doesn't mess up your emergency 911 dialing either.
I didn't create this. i just dl it this morning on my way out the door and ran it on my phone while at work today. personally, i love it.
Give it a shot.

This was discussed in numerous posts above. Please read through this thread again.

like i said, if you want ALL functions of the stock dialer (redial, 911, ##functions, Smartdial, etc., etc.), you have only two options that i know of: Paul Hammon's dialer from pdaphonehome.com or the stock dialer itself.
If you want to prove me wrong, then please do extensive testing before posting it.
If you look through the thread on pdaphonehome. com concerning Paul's dialer, you will realize within that dialer, there are other "skins" available to make it look like the Touch dialer, etc. There are also instructions on how to skin the dialer yourself to some extent. I knew nothing about skinning, and I was able to create my own skins with that dialer including using vista-type 3d icons and iphone icons. Skinning options are limited on that dialer, but they are there.

Have you successfully installed pocketCM 0.2 on your athena?
I've tried several times but I never succeed in. The installation process doesn't cause any problem but the program graphic is completely a mess. I' have tired to change the theme with a VGA-compliant one but it doesn't work well anyway. Can you explain me how have you exactely installed it? I feel kind of idiot, but i badly need a decent contact manager (and the default one, in my opinion, it is not decent at all).
HI.
I just installed PCM Contacts in my Athena. It is necessary to install in the same
directory the vga-test.zip file that can be found in the Theme section of their forum.
This version wants directly the .zip files instead of the old .ctm (?) ones.
Hope this helps.
Mauro
I'm also a user of PocketCM. It just looks perfect on my Athena running with 128dpi.
It ist Important to use a vga skin (.zip file in the Versions newer than 0.15) !!
They also offer a very usable SIP (PocketCM Keyboard) that i use as a default.
Everything is freeware ans runs without any problems on my Athena.
On good thin is that PocketCM and PocketCM Keyboard can easily be set to other languages (German in my case) just by using an other skin.
Thanks to everybody. I've installed the program and the VGA them but still there are some issues. In addition of being a little slow, when I tap on the phone button the keyboard doesn't show up correctly. Can you send me the theme that works on your device?

i've got pocketcm0.20 and i basically use it for its threaded sms function...is there a way to map the hardware message button to go directly to pocketcm's sms function page instead of the WM sms page...or when i get a new message and click read or something to go directly to pocketcm's sms service?

Is there any way to install a different dialer than the one that comes with TF3D? I do NOT want my contacts listed on my dialer so when I am trying to type in a number it accidentally dials a contact. I just want it to display a dialpad and not anything else. Difficult concept, right? Are there any solutions to this?

iDialer is one that popped up in my search for the same thing you're looking for.
I have yet to test it, but I will tonight and get back to you.. in the meantime, if you try it, please post your results

PS: It looks like, for iDialer to be your default dialer, you'll need GreenButton installed as well. It's a 1kb file and is said to take up virtually no resources.
Absolutely perfect. It worked great.
Is it only me?
I'm coming from WinMo only phones. I owned a lot of them, the last being the Touch HD. I was so used to press the "green" key to access the dialer and look for a contact using that mixed numbers/letters phone keyboard.
On Nexus One, I select "phone" shortcut on my homescreen and I get the dialer. But if you push buttons on that keyboard, you only get to dial that number (no contacts lookout, matching what you have pressed). So you have to go to Contacts or Favorites to select someone you want to call (too many operations to not get annoyed )
Is this a normal behavior on Nexus One? Or am I doing something bad?
I made a movie to see what I am talking about (not a native English speaker).
Movie 1
The second movie is made showing what I am talking about using a Market application I found: SuperDial. It works as expected, but still I am confused why Google didn't make this a default (I see this on every phone)
Movie 2
Thanks for any suggestions.
Alin.
On the N1, you can press the "search" button at any time and begin typing a contact's name, and they should pop up as a top result. Alternatively, you can hold the Search button, and simply speak your contact's name. I find this to be the easiest way.
Yes, I've seen this, but it gets more general results, not only contacts. Also, after you find a contact that way, you click on it and it won't dial directly. You still have to select what to do.. not that fast ...
I'm not an American/Englishman and nor my contacts are , so speaking names is useless. Last try was: "Alex Axon" and the phone undesrtood "alex sucks own" .. you got the idea
Thanks for answering anyway. Are there other methods?
You can install aContacts from the market. It does what you want and very configurable. Unfortunately android stock dialer doesn't support T9.
Thanks.. will try that also. As I mentioned, I already found some replacement for my issue.
The question was: is this normal behavior for the default dialer? Or am I doing something wrong?
It looks plain stupid to open an application (Phone in Nexus case) always on a tab that nobody uses (dialer with this behavior). How many times someone will dial a number directly instead of using a saved contact?!? At least the application should remember the last tabs it was in: Favorites, Call Log or Contacts... Dialer is plain useless most of the time with this implementation

This is how mine reacts as well. There's another "application" called "Contacts" in my tray (it also started out on my desktop but I've removed it) which takes you to the same four-tab screen but starts on the "Contacts" tab. This sounds like it would be perfect for you if you used it instead of "Phone."
I also really miss the smart dailer (I think that's what they called it) on the Windows Mobile phones. I'm amazed that it wasn't implemented in one way or another in the stock dialer since it's been in the WinMo phones since forever.
I remember trying out some apps in the market that emulated the smart dialer. On is called SuperDial and the other was Star Contact. Both looked too ugly for me to use, though.

I also wanted to point out that at this screen, you can long press "Menu" to bring up the soft kb, which you can begin typing contacts with.

That's something cool I never tried, but OP wants to dial immediately after tapping on the contact's name. Doing it this way would be the same as hitting the magnifying glass while in the dailer/contacts app, which brings you to the contacts page where you'd have to then tap on the number you wish to dial. On Windows Mobile, after you T9 the contacts name into the dialer, you can select them and it'll automatically dial the contacts default number, which was very useful.
if you say "call" before the contact's name when using voice input, it will default to dialing them.
aContacts actually do the job really, but really well. It replaced my Phone application from this moment on.
SuperDial was good also, but ugly looking.

Where do you type "call"? OP can't use voice dial because he's not from an English speaking country.
you type call on the keyboard as far as I understood, just before entering contact name.. but the process is long in my opinion...
I'm a bit lazy myself
EDIT: tried to enter contact using keyboard on Dialer.. and nothing happens, contact is not found, and dialer just starts dialing the corresponding key number

Sorry, unless I mis-understand, the reason it can't find it is you deleted it.
Until someone can supply the HTC version, so you have something to use try downloading Dialer One from the market.
Hmm i tought by deleting it my system would go back to the stock dialer. But the problem is, currently i have NO dialer ^^
Did you download Dialer One? Not what you want I know but at least you'll have one.
Yes, but the Problem is: The reason why I wanted to change the Dialer was, because i wanted to change the screen when my phone is locked and someone calls me. You know what I mean?
And now, having the htc dialer uninstalled, the lock screen is still the same oO
I don't think the lock screen (including buttons / style / layout) is related to the Dialer, I believe (could be wrong) that it's ROM specific.
The dialer is rom specific. Iam using dialer one on my DHD with Revolution HD 4 ß4 and there is no difference in my lockscreen
Hmm I jsut want to have the HTC DIaler and the Stock Android Caller Lockscreen.
So when i receive a call, when my screen is off, i dont want to slide down like htc sense, i want to slide horizontally like the no-Sense lockscreen.
How do I achieve that?
You must reflash your device.
I dont think you understand what I want
