Phone ringer not working. Help!

My Voda V1605's phone ringer has stopped working. The speaker is still working and vibration works as well. I've tried to soft reset the phone and changed various ringer configuration but nothing's working. Any ideas?
Did you install anything recently? Particularly something like Zen phone, or Phonealarm? Or anything at all?
Do you have a recent backup from when the ringer was working?
no. No new installations. It was working the day before. My last backup was a long time ago. sigh.... I'm beginning to think its a hardware failure but its strange that the speaker is still working but not the ringer.
There are various ringer entries in the registry - check the wiki. Also check ringer folder to ensure relevant entries are there. I'm pushed for time else I'd give more info.

Depending on how much time you have available, if it were me, I think I would be tempted to do this:
Make a full backup of your device as is.
Hard reset.
Test ringer.
If it doesn't work, then this is beyond my expertise.
If it does work, then it's a software/settings/registry thing.
If it works, restore backup (sometimes this does seem to fix things, I don't know why). If ringer now not working, then you will have to take the decision whether to keep the restored system and hunt around for the solution, or whether to do another hard reset and re-install everything.
Good luck, what a pain!
Is this the wiki page you are referring to?

I'll try and have a look through after work. I think the idea about a back up followed by a full reset is also a good idea. I may try that this weekend. I'd appreciate it if you could hone in on which settings I should be check for in the registry.
If it is a registry fault, how is this possible without me messing about or install new software. then again, anything is possible with microsoft init.

Yes that's the page, the bit that starts:
Change ringtone/vibrate/LED flash characteristics
If you would like more control over how your device rings/vibrates/flashes its LEDs on events, you can can change the Script values of these events.
For example, for an incoming call performing 'activate device, play ringtone, wait 3 seconds, repeat':
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\Script = "apw3r" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
Likely you should have the above setting apw3r which is a pretty standard setting.
If it's there and your selected ringtone is in it's folder then the hard reset looks more needed! You could try changing the setting to a slightly different one but it might have no effect if something else is blocking it.
Mike
thanks for that. will try it out tonight.
when I was trying to back up, SPB backup reported an error:
"Unable to read fusionlinks.vol"
Does this have something to do with the ringer?

Never heard of it but might get a chance to check mine later. Sounds!! like it might be related though.
Mike
Do you use AgendaFusion? And is this accessed by something like Pocket Breeze?
I remember there was an issue like this with Pocket Informant and PB where in order to get a 'clean' backup, you had to deactivate the PB plug-in before the backup. I think they fixed it eventually.

Need help removing start-up sound

Hello all,
I have searched & searched. I've read the Wiki and found the info there, more than once. I'm just not "techie" and need more details. I absolutely hate the loud startup sound on the AT&T 8525 that came on my new phone.
I downloaded the Resco trial and I've spent hours trying to find the correct file to "fix" but I just haven't been able to find it. I also like the animation, just not the sound. It looks like just adjust the WAV file, when I finally find it on my phone?
Sorry, but any additional help (Step by Step if possible) you can give me would be greatly appreciated. This sound is driving me & my husband nuts.
After much searching and many hours, the Voice Command works great! Very pleased with that, this forum is awesome.
MsGadget
I assume you are referring to the following?:
Disable/change the startup animation or sound
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimationEnabled - change from 1 to 0 to turn everything off and permanently fix the volume issue.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimationVolumn - change from 16 to 200 (higher number = lower volume) to lower the volume to a whisper but keep the animation.
You can also customize the animated boot up by deleting or changing 2 keys. (Doing this does not fix the volume issue)
Delete the WAVFile Key to remove the sound only.
Delete the GIFFile Key to remove the animation only.
Put your own .GIF file or .WAV file on the phone and rewrite the 2 keys (WAVFile GIFFile) to the new file location. i.e. \My Documents\Files\CustomAnimation.gif
It will help us to know where you are getting stuck.
Can you find thw key HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation using Resco?
Mike
That's what I found, but I can't find the file to change in Resco. I tried to do a search in Resco for the file, but no luck. What does it mean by doesn't fix volume issues?
Sorry, but I've been reading & searching for 3 days now. I'm not the least bit techie, but I love my gadgets!
Thank you!

Ok. One step at a time perhaps.
First you are not using Resco to look for a file but an entry(s) in the Registry. So the first thing to do is to go into Resco and look through the menus for something like "Edit the Registry". I use PHM registry Editor so I'm not sure what menu it's in but it will be in the Resco menus somewhere.
Mike
Download total commander, its free and I know for sure it works.
HKLM is the area of the registry, SOFTWARE is the folder, HTC the next folder and then look for StartupAnimationEnabled
Change the value from 1 to 0, then put the device into sleep for 15 seconds (hit the power button, but dont turn it off) and then do a soft reset.
When it reboots, it will be the way you want it.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimationEnabled - change from 1 to 0 to turn everything off and permanently fix the volume issue
Thank you both very much. I'll work on it again when I get home. Wish me luck. Thank goodness for Sprite backup.
Mona
mikechannon & teknics,
I'm so happy, I got it to work. Your step-by-step instructions were very clear. I greatly appreciate both of you taking the time to share the basics of how & where to start.
Most others in this type of forum probably know where to begin, but I really needed the very basics. The knowledge you provided is very valuable!
Thanks again,
MsGadget
Pleased you got it to work - future registry changes will be a piece of cake
Mike
Agreed!
Not a problem, that's why we are all here right?

SKtools...To be or not to be...?

I guys,
I have this doubt floating in my mind since some time...
If I run all sktools regarding cleaning and registry optimization, such as:
-Clean!
-Optimize!
-Tune Up!
-Invalid Registry Entries
-Invalid Registry Values
-Advanced Clean
-Registry Optimizer
Can it happen that it will wrongly detect some tweaks or corrections made by the cookers as errors in the registry and then eliminate them?
For example, if a cooker changes a value in the registry key to optimize something, Sktools can "think" that it's an error, and then change the key to it's default value, eliminating the optimization done by the cooker...
Is this possible to happen? Or can I use safely the tools from SKtools?
Thankx
I would recommend against using anything like that as it is possible your remove keys that make your rom unstable. Advice is install and stay as you are!

What???
Off course errors/mistakes could happen, but I think that some registry tool is very needed, specially in Windows mobile...
I'm not sure but when this kind of tools search the registry, they only seek for errors in the connections or links.
So I don't think they will delete any tweaks done by the cooker if the tweak is working good.
I use this software to clean up,remove stuff, optimize, tweaks etc... and I have never had any issues whatsoever,if you ask me it works like a charm that´s why I bought it and my xda is really stable all the time.
These are the features I use the most.
-Clean!
-Optimize!
-Tune Up!
-Advanced Clean
-Registry Optimizer
Once I flash I use "Tune up" to change the PIE cache location, cookies, history, messaging files etc....after this "optimize" for better perfomance/stability/memory it´s up to you.Once I´ve done installing apps I use "Clean" and that´s it.
It does remove needed registry keys/values, can't give a specific example tho, you better examine the list of items to be deleted one by one before actually deleting them completely.
The only thing I use from SKTools is FreeRAM.
Sorry.
To me looks like it works well.....I´m sure it´s my lack of knowledge, but when I set it up that way with sktools and it seems to work so well, that´s why I mentioned that.
So..... I've just installed a new rom, an before installing anything else, I installed SKtools, and made a search for Invalid Registry Entries, and it found a couple of them (around 6 or 7).
Is it possible that a ROM is cooked with registry errors already inside?...Or could it be that SKtools is not that reliable...?
And, should I delete those registry strings or not?
Bye
So, no comments/thoughts about this???....
Strange....

You better not delete any registry entries untill or unless you know what it's for. Say for example, if you see that these are coming from a programme that you have uninstalled from your phone, you can close your eyes and delete those. Even that also sometime is bad because, lot of them may be shared with other system stuffs.
I have found some blank registry entries and deleted them, later when I have rebooted the trinity, I had some strange errors(I forgot). Anyway, it don't bring any gains in cleaning registries for fast booting of system, but temporary locations or IE cache to increase your available memory yes.
The basic purpose of a registry cleaning(applicable for pc also!) is that , if there is any error message after booting up your system, or some special errors coming from a particular programme after it launches(depends on the message it gives!) , in that case, it could have been good to run those kind of registry cleaner stuffs.
So you can leave them.
I agree with Provat,
I would say that you have to be aware about what you want to remove.
I use SKtoll too but now I must be careful on what I do with that because on the past I have removed lot of things and the only solution was hard reset.
Nevertheless it's a good tool and it improves a lot. Personnaly, I only use "optimize for performance" option.
Is there a Cab for this ?

Google is your friend :
http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_feat.html
Please, could someone tell me how can I find in SK Tools the FreeUP RAM and Optimize for Performance parts?
thanks
I used SKtools to uninstall Google Maps and didn't scroll thru the results as I usually do. It virtually left my memory card void. All I had left was a shell of a rom...none of the shortcuts worked...all my files were gone. I had to use a recovery program to get most of it back...I still ain't right. I wanted to use their cleaning tool...it came back with so many results and I thought about what happened and just canceled it. I'll stick Memmaid unless someone can tell me the proper cleaner settings for SKtools.

Changing WM6 reminders repeat interval

Is there any tweak in the registry to change the repeating interval on WM6 reminders? The time between is way to short and if a simple registry editing could fix it, I can have one less program installed, today I'm using AlarmPal for that purpouse.
Anyone please!
Would be greatful for help on this. Anyone knows if its possible, and if so, how to edit the registry?
No clue which reg settings take care of this, but check out phoneAlarm. This app gives amazing control over all the notifications, to include duration, frequency and delay of reminders. You can find a free trial at www.pocketmax.net, and the registered version is really cheap for the lite version (<$15)
Thanks. I'm using AlarmPal from PocketMax to do the job. Was just wondering if it isn't just a registry matter to change the repeating interval.
Noone?
No one who have a clue? It seems pretty simple. But you have to know where to look in the registry and I don't. But I'm hoping anybody else does, so please share that bit of information.

ringtone+vibration delay in a Diamond incomingcall

i searched all over the place and i got few solutions and the biggest was this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=258109&page=2
and none of them was helpful .. please i need help
Yes, the cab works. If you want more information on what's happening, it's a registry tweak.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RegistryRingtoneScripts
Haven't tried looking for it, since the cab file "fixed" the "problem". The first ring will be "broken" as the phone wakes up and loads the phone app, but rings afterwards will sound fine.
And no, the ringtone does not have to be a wav file.
Oh, and use the "normal" file.
Well, had a look at the registry entry, and it's there. You can change your ringstyle to whatever you want by changing the script.
