It beats up the overhyped snapdragon

I wonder how this device performs with Froyo

I can't wait for this phone to come out. I'm glad I didn't hop aboard the Snapdragon bandwagon.

with froyo/ginga bread this'll b sick shame faster will b out 4 ginga bread

It looks like its plenty fast enough already, so Froyo will just be a bonus when we get the upgrade

EPIC be able to run gingerbread/honeycomb?

So i have pretty much decided to ditch my hero and get the epic when it is released at the end of this month because it SEEMS like it is going to be the perfect phone for me. My only concern is that everyone is talking that gingerbread is coming out later this year and I know the EPIC will just barely be getting froyo next month.
I hope that samsung has plans on bringing gingerbread to the galaxy S line of phone eventually, if not i guess thats why we root our phones, but i'm concerned on if the EPIC will have the hardware to handle gingerbread and or honeycomb. Or should i just wait until those dualcore phones come out?
The minimum requirements for Gingerbread are 512 of ram, 1 ghz processor, and a 3 inch screen. The epic meets these requirements and will likely get gingerbread due to samsungs large investment into the galaxy s series.
I dont know anything about honeycomb and thus can only speculate about it.
Rumor has it that the nexus one is the development phone for gingerbread. If that is the case then the EVO and Epic are both well within the hardware limits of gingerbread. Now is it within Samsung's or Sprint's best interests to upgrade your "old" epic or evo or make us buy a new phone when Gingerbread is GA is a different matter all together.
http://www.cellb.net/2010/07/27/android-3-0-test-build-already-running-in-the-wild.mobile
Im sure we will get at least gingerbread one way or another. Either through official channels or all the great devs out there. And when did google officially give the requirements for GB?? I was under the assumption those leaked specs were just a rumor
Those spec "requirements" were just a rumor.
I think it depends on when Gingerbread is going to come out.
Samsung seems to be really trying to get out Froyo, but most likely by the time Gingerbread starts rolling out, a new better samsung phone will be out and they will be busy pushing it to that.
I dont have much faith in Samsung, but don't honestly care as long as they release the gingerbread source code so some good developers can compile a juicy rom.

HTC Desire HD or Samsung Fascinate?

Hey guys, my friend is looking to come to verizon. What should he get the Desire HD (supposedly releasing NOV 23rd) or the Fascinate now?
He want to fool around with custom roms and such. But he wants a fast powerfull phone.
Im bias and have the fascinate and really think touchwiz kills it!!
What do you guys think?
I dont know what the specs are on that phone but the fascinate is smoking fast coming from a droid.

The Fascinate. The Hummingbird is a fantastic chipset-it will destroy the Snapdragon v2 when we get Froyo, and it still has the best GPU. Even the new Adreno 205 doesn't come close and still lags in games.
The Desire is going to have a more prolific development scene. This is a more powerful device. I struggled between this and an incredible. Still on the fence with my choice. Lol.

Coming from a droid which had plenty of devs i love this fascinate it is so sleek and fast as hell. I think 2.2 will bring more development for this phone.

That's what I'm thinking as well. It seems counter productive to spend days or hours working on something just to have it replaced in a couple weeks and have to spend all that time and effort again.
At least wait until Nov 8 before choosing the HTC. If the Nexus S is real and essentially another Galaxy S variant, then we're going to get a ton more development goodies.
Good thinking. I put my Fascinate up for sale o craigs list but im gonna wait and see whats up with the nexus 2.
I would rather have a phone that always gets updates in a timely manner. Any other phone will have a wait. Either way the HTC HD wont come to verizon till 23rd of Nov
Thanks!!

After The Vibrant What is Next??? The next phone debate!!

We can all agree that the Samsung Vibrant/Galaxy S is a really good phone and a really great phone when running a custom rom. My question is what is next for you guy, as far as phones goes. What new upcoming phone will you guys get in the near future?
So far number one on my list of my next phones is the LG Optimus 2x, but is that can when Galaxy S 2 and the rumored LG 3D phone is announces. Most likely I will go with the Galaxy S 2. Why you ask? 1. TOUCHWIZ, I think Touchwiz is the best thing that every happen to a smartphone. 2. Odin, Odin practically made the Vibrant unbreakable. 3. Super Amoled Display, I can never look at another screen the same again after seeing super amoled, plus the Galaxy S 2 is said to have Super Amoled Plus Display sigh crazy!!!
I too am leaning toward the LG Optimus 2X but would opt for the Galaxy S 2 if it was coming out in the next couple of months. Have not heard nor read any real timeline for the Galaxy S 2. I also really like Twiz. I have had some hard feelings toward Samsung but I also like Odin and how it makes the phone much easier(or more comfortable) to mess with. I had pretty much decided to never purchase Samsung again but upon looking at the overall picture I feel it is the best decision for me at this time. I had a MT4G and even though I got it rooted and flashed a nice rom I never really felt comfortable playing with it. Sent it back.. Nice phone though.
LG Optimus 2X is mine, I am simply waiting on it right now. But I will NOT buy any phone that does not have the operating system I want and wait for it to come out. If the Optimus 2X does not come with gingerbread, no dice. That way I can flash some cool custom roms just for fun not cos I need the new OS
Seems like I made the right decision to not but the Galaxy Tab, will be getting the G-Slate to go along with it the Optimus2X, scary crap but I am going to be an LG guy (minus the TV)
Edit, after much thought and playing around with phones, watching youtube videos of different phones etc etc, I have decided I will stick to Google phones, ie Nexus line of phones. I really do not need much more than the 16gig it comes with, I hardly use the bluetooth anyway, and it is still faster than the current flock of dual core phones out there now...yep nexus S is my next phone. Even the Nexus one is beating phones that are a year newer at performing basic tasks fast and efficiently
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0e5z6vvf0A&feature=related for eg for the Nexus S
Grant it, i've had hard feelings towards samsung, I'll probably end up with another samsung phone. If not, I would go back to being a Symbian Developer once again with custom Symbians for Nokia. I was, maybe still am, a Nokia die hard. I love their simplicity and all of my Nokia's lasted years.
And Samsung is the closest to what I like on a phone. Customizable, ease of use, and their hardware configuration is so simple and very nice.
So yah...
As much as I am a believer in budget is relative, buy it if you can afford it, I still don't see why anyone buys a phone cause its the "next big thing". Hype and marketing will always tug at the trendy or the ppl who are "in the know" harder then reality or common sense.
Examples span from the the galaxy s Series being released, the G1 being the iphone killer, and more recently the X2 being short of expectations per the review just put out by engadget. Now I'm not saying that the following examples didn't take a turn for the better, if not the best, but electronics and the future is almost an oxymoron. You usually are never using the final product, but more like beta testing for the next best thing. It's an endless trap of gratification vs. $/phone.
As I was one who has gone through the ranks of the G1 and a vibrant, and I Love my vibrant, but Ill still just wait till xxx phone comes out late this year and get it for free on a full upgrade after its been out for 6 months and has tons of roms and the kinks rubbed out of it, lol.
/talking myself out of buying another toy hahaha
I'm going to stick to vibrant and wait for multiple dual cores to come out. Then hit the Craig when the price is lowest :b dun really wanna switch again... went through so many phones in last 4 -5months.
Samsung highlight/ iPhone 3gs/ Samsung vibrant / HTC g2/ nexus one / mytouch 4g/ and back to vibrant again.. should have never abandoned the vibrant in the first place lol.
Learned mylesson. Don't buy the first batch

Sounds like you need a Nokia N8.
But i think im most likely gonna go with the Optimus 2x. That Dual-Core processor sounds promising.
they said the benchmarks on it are insane
http://www.intomobile.com/2011/01/31/lg-optimus-2x-star-dual-core-tegra-2-fully-benchmarked/
instead of spending my easily earned money on another phone when this current phone is perfectly fine, I am going to get some custom timberland boots!!
From what i have heard, performance increase is not that much with any phone that is not running honeycomb or higher. The OS can only utilize one core, so the main reason anyone would want to get the lg optimus should be for gaming, and lets face it, android games aren't that hw demanding or nice !!

LOL, N8 is niiiccceee, especially it comes with Nokia Qt SDK for Devs, lolol... tempting.
Anyway, that's what i'm waiting for, a dual core, and simplicity.
Funny, I can afford to buy any phone anytime, that said i love this phone and am waiting for the same reason ndwgs said. Dual Core, my next buy will probably be the xoom tablet... then the Dual core, S2 or maybe Atris..... not sure

Meh, as unhappy as I've been with the small amounts of great ROMS, and lack of Sense so far, I'm keeping this phone. Over the lasy year I've gone through six phones. Moto Cliq-myTouch-Blackberry Bold-iPhone 3G-myTouch-Vibrant. I was never truly happy with a device until this one. So I'll be waiting quite a qhile before getting a new one.
Either the Glaxy S2 or the HTC Pyramid. I can't wait for MWC to start
I will never buy a samsung phone again, but I heard that the nokia e7 is shipping now and the keyboard on that thing is gorgeous, not to mention the camera with dual led flash. If I were to buy a phone today it would be that one. I'd probably go through some minor flashing withdraw but I'd get over it.

To the op try using this rom im using now http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935799 its a suped up version of touchwiz ^^
and on the topic i would skip the lg 2x and prolly get the galaxy s2 for my next upgrade, mostly because i dont want a smaller screen. Hopefully by then they will solve the whole timely update problems, which they said recently while releasing the "official 2.2" <-(piece of sh*t btw) that they will work harder to provide updates on a timely matter.
Heh, I'm going to wait until the second wave of dual-core phones come out, probably by this holiday season. Why? They'll be more mature and ship with 2.4 stock, which is what you'll need to actually take advantage of those dual cores. And by then we'll know which chipsets have the best performance and battery life (Tegra 2 isn't all that impressive just yet).

I see in your sig that you got a Rom coming soon?? I wan't to have a hands-on on that baby... No pressure. LOL

Sticking with the EVO or Going with a EVO 3D

Just wanted to see what people's thoughts are about moving off of the original EVO and going with the 3D. Is it going to be worth the extra $$? Is there going to be good development for the 3D? Etc? Let me know, I love my EVO but the EVO 3D rocks some specs.
Honestly, the ONLY reason I want to upgrade is for the faster/better specs, NOT the 3D. Honestly, I wish it didn't have 3D but I won't turn down something for free. My thought, no 3D = thinner/lighter but eh. HTC had to get on-board the gimmicky train at some point so...
I had a thread like this one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015387
I'm going to keep my evo, use the upgrade to get a 3D and sell it for cash. Then wait for a moorestown powered phone.
Yeah I think it smart to hold onto EVO 4G, wait for the official Gingerbread update with newer Sense update. Then after the EVO 3D has been out a little while and a root finally made, the ROM's will be out shortly after.
I just think our current EVO's with the Gingerbread update and ROM's built off that update will be amazing, that will hold me over till the EVO 3D is rooted and ROM'd.
But for sure the EVO 3D will be a beast with a good Sense based ROM like Myn's. Imagine that ROM on the EVO-2, with dual cores, 1gb memory, 4gb storage, and running on Android 2.3 Will be warp speed fast, and buttery smooth.
Its all about the Nexus 3 now I am praying it comes to sprint.

There's no negative to having 3D capability, you don't have to use it.
I'm holding off for a bit. Pretty happy with my Evo and have no desire for 3D anything. Phone should be a beast though, and provided Sprint doesn't have something comparable coming out in the near future, I may end up getting up on it. If anything I'd jump on the Nexus, but I'm in no rush to jump.

Gotta see what the situation with the bootloader is.
If it is unlocked, wait a little bit, let the devs work and get out some ROMs, get the 3D. Gotta love them specs!
...but hold onto my EVO too for the heck of it
Yeah, you honestly don't buy new products [especially technology] in the first few weeks of its release.
Perfect example: Palm Pre
Hopefully the bootloader won't be locked as well.
Seeing as how I'm not eligible for an upgrade until Aug 12, I'm going to be sticking with the Evo for a while.

True.
We shouldn't buy new Android phones, until root.
As much as I want to be a day 1 EVO 3D user, I'm not playing the early adopter game unless its rooted, pre release.
I'm doubting there is going to be a locked bootloader coming our way, Sprint & T-Mobile are the least likely of the Big 4 to request one.

Well it's more than just confirming the ability to have full root.
If you wait a few weeks after release you really get to see the issues that exist [if any] for that phone.
I am not about trusting based on past performance or name.
The Palm Treo lineup has some phones that STILL UNTIL THIS DAY function just fine.
Yet the Pre was garbage.
Allowing others to beta test is smart
I for one will definitely be upgrading to the evo 3d, but because my current Evo is still going strong, which I've had since the day before officially released, i love best buy , im going to hold off till root is achieved and a wealth of roms are out and first generation evo 3d bugs get ironed out too. My 2 cents.
Uplinked through my mind
I'll definitely be getting the 3D. Not for the 3D but for the dual core processor and the 1gb of ram. Its a better looking, faster more powerful Evo. Why wouldn't you want to get it? Im sure HTC wont lock the Bootloader seeing as how none of their other devices are locked. Plus ill be able to take high res pics of my finace's you know what...lol j/k..... nah i was fa real http://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

By the time it comes to sprint HTC will be announcing the third gen evo... we wont even get the sgs2 til late 3rd/early 4th quarter.
As far as buying devices day one, I've had my evo since day one and its been solid. In addition, with sprint's 30 guarantee you can't lose.
Tapa tapa tapa
I'm going to wait and see what kind of development and support it ends up with after a while. The amount of dev's making ROMS here is phenomenal and I'd hate to end up with a phone that we couldn't do much else with.
Look at the video on youtube about evo 3D. Its going to be sick. I'm gonna pay extra for it.

I've had the opposite experience, my launch EVO suffers from the backlight bleeding alongside the buttons and 'ghost' touches on the screen.
I was so excited for the original EVO though, I'm still glad I got it on launch day.
It's still such a solid device though that I'll probably wait at least a month or two after the 3D comes out to get it.

I Can't Wait to Retire the Vibrant!

Dear Vibrant,
You have kicked a lot of ass these past few years. With the help of all these badass developers on XDA, you were still able to outperform many new devices especially those crappy HTC phones. Unfortunately, I'm happily looking forward to replacing you with a Galaxy S3. The hardest decision now is which color do I get?
Best Wishes,
Nick

I agree that Samsung has delayed the updates etc. But do you not agree they make one hell of a phone?
My Vibrant has been the greatest phone i have ever had, and I'll go right back to Samsung, know why? Samsung may not provide the best timed updates, but look at the other manufacturers. HTC and Motorola both lock bootloaders, and for me its a choice between HTC or Samsung. Samsung clearly wins. Specially with the developers we have here.
Also @ OP
I think the is it Pebble Blue? Looks pretty good, but its being delayed internationally because they screwed up on the battery covers.

If Samsung keeps their phones as easy to root and flash as the Vibrant has been I'll be more than happy to go back. Aside from having to do the hardware GPS fix I've had no complaints with the Vibrant... not to say I wouldn't enjoy the SIII though
As long as you didn't stay on stock (and why would you if you're lurking around these parts of XDA) the Vibrant has been a dream with how easy you can load up what you want. And for a device going on 2 years old it's very impressive how it's held up and is still able to rock ICS builds with minimul issues.
I'm going off the contract grid in a couple of months, and I'll be rolling the Vibrant until the wheels fall off. Next one will probably be the Galaxy Nexus since it probably the least hassle without a contract, but hopefully there's another price drop (come on $300...) before I have to put my good ol' Vibrant out to pasture.
Completly agree with everyone else. My vibrant has been the best phone I've had...true it had its moments, like anything, but it still outruns most new phones. I've had the vibrant for 2 years and it's never let me down (except in the gps department lol). It still runs like new....and actually with all the development it actually runs better NOW then every before lol I will be sad to let it go, but the sg3 will be the first phone that makes me want to move forward....but not because I feel the vibrant underachieves by any means. In fact, I'm donating my vibrant to a good friend of mine who is stuck with a ****ty htc device until he can upgrade. So it will get its use for another 2 years at least.
Since T-Mobile USA isn't LTE yet, I have a good feeling the S3 is going to be Quad-Core. If it isn't, I might get a Galaxy Nexus or wait till September to see what else comes out.
Most probably tmobile sg3 will have krait s4 chip coz specs are out for Canadian 42 mbps HSPA+ and it has s4 dual core chip. On the bright side it has 2 Gb ram

Not sure if 2 GB it's necessary. But i am pretty pissed with apps closing in the background while browsing in opera and services like my email and Swype closing due to lack of ram in vibrant. Also many games like shadowgun and MC3 just won't run, not because hummingbird soc can't handle, but not enough ram. I believe in long term usage more ram is better than quad core over dual core, when the socs are of the same generation.
