2 Quick qeustions, just not quick answers? - HD2 General

I am a Andriod user, recently went and got an HTC HD2 for T-mobile USA, I am pretty good at useing Andriod have rooted several devices. With that said two questions:
1) Does flashing/rooting the HD2 void any warranties? I have looked in the warranty guide before asking however the lit in there sucks!
2) Has ant one ported Andriod to the HD2, and what is the success of it?

1) Yes Flashing a custom rom does void your warranty, but it can be reversed.
2) No, It has not been ported yet

Thanks Zelendel!

check the t-mobile support site re: warranty issues. Basically if you brick your phone in a manner that can't be un-bricked, you's kind of SOL unless you were on an official release and going to an official release.
Check the various threads around here to see how to set up your phone in a fashion that maximizes your chance of un-bricking. You'll also find some talk of porting android OS to HD2.

Official HTC TYTN rom upgrade!!!

Does anybody have any clue when the official rom for the tytn will be released? I have been waiting for days, I check the website single day and now every hour. I know there are more roms available but i dont want to void the warranty of my phone.
Is there any rom I can put without voiding the warranty?
Please forgive my ignorance and yes I searched through the forum before making this new thread.
am I the only one waiting for this?
Flame bait!
Before your fire suit completely burns through ( ), I'll close this thread and delete it later. If you flash any ROM found through this site that isn't your carriers official ROM, it will technically void your warranty (unless you use HardSPL).
The info you're looking for has been discussed into the ground. Look in the Hermes WM6 forum for more specifics.
Depending on which carrier you use, you could be seeing an official WM6 release anytime between one to several months.
Good luck and read up as much as you can if you want to learn about all the great things you can do your Hermes.
P.S. Start your journey in the Wiki.

queries abt upgrading mobile to new ROM

Dear all,
I am a new user of wm. Just got this mobile. There are many posts regarding new roms and all, but wondering upgrading or modifying existing mobile rom will have any affect mobile warranty. can someone put some light on this?
thanks
In my opinion upgrading the ROM with anything other than what is supplied as an official ROM upgrade but the manufacturer will void the warranty.

hmm... if u can't get into bootloader i don't know how to help you...
i'm sorry man but if u bricked ur phone, there's really no way back..
sorry to hear that.. ='(
If you flash an incorrect rom then it is bricked and no way to restore it, sorry.
This is why I state in BIG letters over and over to make absolutely sure you are flashing the correct rom on a 1024LEO.
Only thing you can really do is take it back and ask for a replacement if its still within the first few weeks of owning it.
Mark.
Thank you for all the reply. I bought it right on the launch day. I will try to bring it back to tmobile.

This is becoming a common theme and to be honest, it's very easy for a rookie to make this type of mistake as we're seeing over and over again. There needs to be more of a clear standard for labeling these threads for the US HD2 where mistakes can easily be made. Looking through the titles of the threads, you'll see ROMs labeled...
TMOUS
TMOU
T-MOBILE
T-MOB
US TMob
US HD2
There just seems to be a lot of work put into making these ROMs which we are all extremely grateful for, but not much effort into making sure people are clear which ROM needs to be flashed. When you add in premium, regular, lite, etc versions, it becomes even more cluttered. Just me 2 cents.

Honestly bro, like mark said. What more can they implement, when it clearly says in big letters: "Only flash tmobile USA 1024 roms" i bricked my phone as well, took it back and got a new one. then again, i get your point also, maybe if the incorporate a general label like [US TMOBILE ONLY] Rom it might make it easier for noobs like my self to not make the common mistake.
PS. People JUST FREAKING READ BEFORE FLASHING.

Any ROM that states TMOUS etc is compatible. If you still are not sure ask the person making the ROM. There is no need to put TMOUS Only as the same ROM can be also used for others.
there is plenty of warning. my sympathy runneth not. the problem is people flashing without having even tried to read up on the process. half an hour here or on google would turn up dozens of hits that clearly point out the danger, even someone that doesn't understand yet would see the warnings and be cautious....... well.you'd think so anyway.
I got a new one now. hopefully i dont brick it this time.
Good for you!
I had to double check flashing Dutty's he has like 6 versions out and only 1 is for Tmobile.
It appears that radio ROM may kill the phone.
Just make sure the ROM is compatible with 2.08.50.xxx radio.
Have to be tmobile customer to get warrenty phone? Is prepaid card customer count?
Sometimes it hard to relate when you are on a different level
I have been messing with PC's for twenty years.
But I must admitt. I was confused at first to what rom was what.
You might want to add to the how to flash a rom thread. a little more detail about the information describing the rom.
I know you stated in the how too 2.5 or higher. I think an example would help or change the wording. Just trying to help! Not being rude. I appreciate all I have learned from you all.
Thanks!

Do you not read the stickies especially ALL the warnings in my flashing guide telling you to make absolutely sure the rom is compatable with your device. You cannot flash non Tmobile based Roms on a Tmobile 1024LEO.
I dont think there is anything you can do if you flash an incompatable rom onto your 1024LEO. The only thing you can do is take it back where you got it, say its not working and face the consequences.
Mark.

Read people, READ!!!!
My cdma vogue was easy to flash even cooked my own personal roms for it, I have had my tmo hd2 for about 3 weeks now, and will probably spend about another week or two reading before I begin flashing it, this gsm stuff is just way too far out of my "comfortable" zone. Too many varients of the phone too. People need to spend time and RESEARCH a bit before attempting something they have never done before.

[Q] Android 2.2

Hi,
Can I go ahead and flash the Android 2.2 OS from android developers website? Will it work?
Regards,
Mithun.
NOT DEVELOPMENT RELATED MOVED TO GENERAL
we have three 2.2 roms:
fyodor 0.7.2c
SP-froyo 2.0
SPQRom 0.4.1
all are very stable but BE AWARE: CAMERA DOESN'T WORK and there are other little bugs that are being fixed...
I did this earlier this week using the manual root method, RA-recovery & fyodor ROM. As long as you read the instructions several times before starting and have all the tools to hand, fairly straightforward process.
BUT there are some annoying niggles that may make you delay. For me, not having handsfree Bluetooth means that I can't use the 2.2 ROM as I spend a lot of time in the car. Similarily, CoPilot doesn't work on 2.2 an ALK have yet to release a patch.
IMHO the 2.2 ROM is miles better on Tattoo than 1.6 (faster, neater, smaller) but does have some outstanding issues that you need to consider before flashing.

Thanks so much for your quick reply, Albert & Maxi.... Well, my phone is just 2 weeks old. I had played around a lot with my HTC elf, which was out of warranty. I am just concerned weather it will void my tattoo's warranty. Also, could you please brief me what else doesn't work apart from the camera. I called up HTC support today and they were not really helpful in tellin me about the update for my tattoo.
According to you both, which is better, 2.1 or 2.2?
Regards,
Mithun.

I haven't used any 2.1 ROM's so can't comment but when you have rooted & RA-recovery on your phone, you can flash a ROM in a matter of minutes so you can quickly decide which version / variant is best for you.

the last version of copilot works on froyo
anyway in my opinion it's ok to choose between 1.6 or 2.2 but 2.1 is a NONSENSE 'cause camera doesn't work in 2.1 and 2.2 is faster and faster...you can install apps to sd without any patch...

Bro, I also wanted to know whether it will void the warranty since my phone is just 2 weeks old and I have a years warranty. Is there any way I can restore my phone to the original state after flashing a custom rom? I had done that on my elf before.... Where can I download stock rom for my tattoo?
Regards,
Mithun.

Yup. Just do a backup.
As for warranty, HTC might try to use that as an excuse not to fix the phone. But unless the problem is related to the rom...
Only some specific rom (the ones that do overclocking and such), are actually susceptible of causing hardware problems)
And of course, switch back to stock rom, to make sure the issue you might have is not rom related.

[Q] Custom ROM upgrade

This past week I installed Android 2.2 on my 1024 HTC HD2 (T-Mobile US) using the Video Tutorial by Tech Burrow and FAQs. I used the Android NAND ROM linked under the video. Everything is working ok and I've been reading the forum and debugging for the past few days...
*this is the first time I've done any type of software modification for phones
Today I clicked on the "NAND Bible" post and the "CleanDROID v2.55" is looking like a better option since I don't use Facebook and all that other stuff that comes preinstalled. I'd be happy to dump all the bells and whistles for something cleaner and faster, with more disk space. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10675863
On the Wiki page for HD2 it says "Try not to flash Custom ROMs unless they say that they're definitely compatible with the 1024LEO, or You'll be sorry!"
My Questions:
1) Is this ROM safe for my phone?
2) If so, is it worth it to perform this upgrade? I'm not familiar with all the technical specs, and don't want to "fix something that ain't broke."
3) If so, for install can I just follow #3 of the Guide [For Newbs]?
Many thanks!
Note as said by a members siggy
If you don't want to void your warranty, you're visiting the wrong site.
I don't know if it is safe as I can't understand the coding to linux. but if you can, his source should be stated and you can check it to see if it is safe.
worth the upgrade isn't something we can tell you for we know not of your current status. E.g what works and what doesn't work for you.
I don't know what is step 3 of the guide. But if you know how to install, then install.
Note your questions really don't even need a thread for, these could be done by searching the forums through the search button or even manually. So next time, do a little thinking for yourself first, it helps your brain from rotting. No harsh feelings.
Hmm I've already installed a ROM so not really worried about voiding my warranty at this point.. more worried about bricking my phone..
Well if you had done even more reading, you'd know HSPL is a software prevention of bricking your device. So the only way to brick your device now is through hardware.

Hey mate the best rom for you if you like sense is the core droid rom look in nand builds. if your looking for gingerbread without sense i would say ultimate droid. but please read before flashing through dft or flashing through clock work mod. and only way your bricking the phone is if you flash wrong radio or rom to it. both of the roms i stated are fine for tmous hd2's have fun modding your hd2 and welcome to xda
Thanks Rotary, will check those out.
