WM 6.5.3/5 - HD2 General

Hello all,
I have been reading and mod-ing on the site for awhile now.
I tried the best that I can to understand the whole ROM thing and I can't seems to comprehend it. By the way, I upgraded to the new ROM 2.13.531.1 (90963) WWE. I need to do the whole WM 6.5.3 or .5 on my phone and I am completely lost.
I love the menu display (circle) at the bottom of the screen.
How do I go about that?
Is there like a 6.5.3 upgrade for dummies?
Please take it easy on me, I know some of you will say READ!
I have, in fact I read so much I have a headache because too much computer talk is not my thing. I cannot even undersnad the whole HMLK thing.
Thank you

the only way to get from 6.5 to 6.5.x us to flash a custom rom. you can't upgrade a current rom, you have you flash a new one.

And how an where can i download WMP Skins, Upgrade
And the same with messenger....
There is not update like wm7 yet mate just minor updates or fixes but you can try modded & better version your Orginal ROM here once such i would suggest is Dutty Extreme ROms that doesn't other bad just that i did try them ;D
also check the apps section for apps and tweaks
or you can try these freeware sites
http://www.1800pocketpc.com/
http://www.freewareppc.com/
it has all the apps you ever need.
you need to go and read these forums, the wiki and get a btter understanding of your device and system before asking these questions
especially as once youve done all the required reading etc, you will realise that the questions you are asking eother dont have answers, dont exist or are just soooo poorly informed you shouldnt even be asking them
sorry if that sounds harsh, but as this is primarily a developers forum rather than a noobies "hold my hand while i walk through the valley of WM darkness" forum, i dont think it is harsh to say that you need to go and educate yourself on the very basics of your device and OS before trying to mess with it
i have had WM machines for a fair few years, i did not flash roms for at least 2 years as i had lots to learn and tweak before flashing the ROM was going to be worth it for me
ps WM6.5 doesnt formally exist yet, WM7 wont be out for at least a year
There are ROMs with WM 6.5 but they are mostly VERY beta with some things not fully working and a bit buggy. but there are as far as I know no WM7 stuff at all available. and WM 7 could pose a problem as MS has a new hardware requirement spec thats different. One being requirement of a "Windows" button.
The current is 6.1 and if you want the newest stuff get a ROM with the new Manila 3. It is slightly buggy but the bugs are being worked out

Noob needs help please

New Questions here, old one at the bottom.
hi and thanks to everyone for your answers... you helped me a lot.
but:
I tried various 6.5 and 6.5.3 roms and found a lot of bugs in all of them... and that's not really my style. I want to go back to stock firmware 6.1 and there are not many options (or maybe i wasn't able to find them). Where can i find the Stock Firmware section or something like that, if they are unbranded even better, and if you can direct me to the latest one even better... i have installed the one from Orange in spanish meanwhile, i think it's Ver 1.57.75.3 found here. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566929 but if there are better unbranded ones i'll be very happy to install them... (how about this one: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521354).
Thanks a lot again in advance...
old Question:
Hi, i bought yesterday my new Opal and i have no idea how to update the rom to windows 6.5... I´m a bit of a perfectionist so i wanna get things right from the beginning, and i used to mod motorola phones so i understand some of the technical stuff, but htc is completely new to me.
So far, this is what i have understood:
to update:
1.- install hard_spl
2.- install custom ruu
3.- install new rom.
But i have a lot of questions on what is each one of those things and the advantages they give.
What does Hard_SPL do?
What is the Custom RUU for? (what is the RUU?)
What is the most stable and least customized rom with winmo 6.5? which rom is the most used by this forum?
What is titanium?
and last: how is the Opal unlocked? (if posible)
Mi goal is to update to winmo 6.5 but keep my phone looking as stock as possible and as stable as possible...
all the help i can get will be very appreciated...

Congrats for your Htc touch viva!
Ok now initially Htc touch viva has its official spl which would not allow your device to upgrade to custom roms. You can only upgrade to official roms. So Spl is a kind of lock To unlock that only we use Hard SPL After installing HSPL you can upgrade to custom roms.
And you understood slightly wrong because Ruu = Rom update utility its just a app which is used to upgrade your rom in your device. So u dont install that. After HSPL directly rom
And about the roms i cant say coz every one has different flavours try them all At last titanium is a new interface made by microsoft and introduced in wm 6.5 and above.
A Word of Caution....
I want to add one thing...(IMPORTANT!!!)

Don't think that a particular WM 6.5.x ROM will work for your device just because it worked like a charm on somebody's device. Believe it or not, though it may be the same model ex: HTC Touch Viva T2223, there are variations depending on the country.

I want to add one thing to what freelancer said:
Imo it is not ALWAYS the best to stick with the stock version. I had branded ROM shipped with my phone, hardSPLed it and installed custom translated unbranded ROM.
Does the same thing as branded ROM did but way faster. And some features like the HTC task manager didn't work with branded rom at all. Now everything works just fine.
I agree that stock ROMs are the best/fastest, but just not if you have a branded one. It slows down your device.
Just my opinion

Lol, who said that stock is rom is best as far as about opal you should go ahead with custom roms i have seen that custom rom gives more free ram then stock. Plus task manager in stock rom that can be done in custom also the thing is the more the rom is lite the more efficiently your device will work do you know the stock rom .nbh file size is more than 100 mb whereas a normal custom rom is around 90 mb if there are many app and you can create less than 50 mb stock rom also. Wm 6.5 is perfect for opal inface wm 6.5.x also.

THE VERDICT!!!!
Custom Roms RULE!!!!!
i don't mean to disagree with you guys (you know better) but i didn't mean to say that WM6.1 v1-vx is bad but as far as WM6.5 is concerned....they have disadvantages like they are buggy and also consumes battery quite fast.
Appearance wise...WM6.5 is way ahead...but performance wise....I'll stick with WM6.1 anytime.
currently i am using WM6.1 v14 by PDAVIET it is nearly perfect!!!!
regarding differences in hardware...i was meaning the CARRIER...like Verizon, DoPoD, T-Mobile (MDA Basic), iDea (India) and so on...sorry...
regarding stockspl...mine was SPL 1.35.0000...i couldn't find any download link for that..
hey brothers i think tht opal also should have a completely cleam winmo 6.5.3 rom plxxxxxx i love it on mi friends wizard which has less ram....i know ya guys can do it...and also brother winmo is all about customising and making changes to interface wen ya want... its not only themes..it has completely different uis tht can be swithched ezily... so ya gotta try these.....i guess after trying diferent lock screens games today screens thn aftr tht rty theroms

[Q] looking for stock winmo 6.5 rom

Hey everyone ,
I m just wondering around if anyone knows where i can get stock winmo 6.5 ver rom for blackstone , i know there;s no build for blackstone {touch hd} ,
coz i m using cloudy's rom so they are pretty much same to stock ,
the main reason for doing that my phone when i try to wake up , the back light stays lit up but nothin else happens so i have to softreset everytime
If somebody knows the solution that would be great help
cheers
Ravage is what you are looking for!
If you are looking for the stockiest 6.5 rom available for the HD, then follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633360. This is the best rom you would find for the HD. By Miniterror.
dont really understand your question.
you say you want a stock rom and that you know there is no stock rom, but that the rom you're using is almost stock.
what more do you want?
sorry for not making myself understandable, as u know htc hadn't released any stock 6.5.x rom for blackstone ,only 6.1 is available, as our developers are comping 6.5 build from other phones like leo etc.
my exact question was is there any clean winmo 6.5.x rom available , so that I can install on ma blackstone . I almost tried every latest rom , but i m not getting enough memory left after installation , except cloudy's and blackstonehenge which i m using right now.
Any idea, or help would be better, thnks guys
you should change this thread's title, it is confusing.
stock rom refers to a rom provided by the manufacturer or a carrier. what you seem to be looking for is a clean or lite rom. that would also be the names you should look for. there are dedicated lite/clean/vanilla roms around, that run manila 2.1 or titanium, that should offer you enough free space and speed, or did you, by any chance, forget to hard reset your phone after flashing. that will make your phone slower with every rom you flash

[Q] ROM upgrade to 6.5

Hello guys..
I got a HTC 3452 for my sister. It came with Win Mo 6.1. I want to upgrade it to either 6.5 or android. But got to know that android doesn't work on OMAP processors so, wanna know which ROM would be the best. Secondly, can i downgrade it to 6.1 back in case 6.5 is not satisfactory coz some one told me its not possible. Thirdly can the processor be overclocked?
Answers to all 3 are yes.
You can upgrade to 6.5. I'd recommend Onyx personally, but each to their own.
You can downgrade to 6.1. Again, I'd recommend Onyx.
Yes, it can be overclocked. A simple google will show you a couple of programs
To anticipate your next questions:
"How do i upgrade to 6.5"
Please make your way to the rom section, at which point you will find some detailed stickies, and all the roms. Feel free to try which ever ones you feel like, there are many in there.
Make sure you read up about CID unlocking, SPL and IPL. as some roms may require different IPL/SPLs then stock.
@captainstu72
Thank you very much... Will try it tonight or tomorrow..

[Q] Back 2 Da Basic

OK, thanks to everyone here I finally flashed my HD2 and I liked it a lot. I tried the Energy Rom and Core Cell Rom and they both worked great and have there advantages. But I have a new question now. I want to change my phone back to stock, which stock rom should I download? And is the installlation process the same as flashing the phone with a custom rom?
hmmm...
im assumin you have a tmous HD2. if so you can find the original tmobile rom on their website. just search for hd2 software update on the search portion. same as here, you can find it. just gotta look and not ask a question when you can find it yourself. also i think this question doesnt belong under this thread mayb under HD2 general..
http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm54430.xml thats helpful... use it to flash back..
ok, thanks for the help. but i have a question and something else as well. I clicked on the link and read over everything it says:
NOTE: The software update is only designed to update the ROM version from 2.10.531.1 and 2.13.531.1 to 3.14.531.1. If at any point the software was changed from 2.10.531.1 or 2.13.531.1 by flashing to unsupported software, sometimes called rooting or hacking, then we strongly recommend you do not perform this update, as it was not designed to update unsupported software.
It seems like their saying don't use this update if I flashed another rom besides the stock rom which it came with. So exactly what do I do from here? Not trying to sound slow or anything, but I want to becareful with these things. And besides I don't have a spare phone to use and would hate to brick this one up. Any help is appreciated.
I got my TMOUS HD2 yesterday and to go around customs, I asked if the seller could flash there nonbootable ROM, which I made (HTC Oboe XIP and no IMGFS to be sure it wouldn't boot ). When it arrived, I just flashed the 3.14 ROM without single errors and keeping HSPL2.
Do it, there won't be problems .
this thread came in time. today i got a message from tmobile indicating that there is a new update available. i wanna give it a shot and if i don't like it then I'm going to upgrade to the cell core v3 since i've been using v2 for a while
