There has been quite a lot of talk on various forums/blogs/etc whether or not the i9000 has or has not an LED Camera Flash.
Seeing as handtec advertise the i9000 by stating it does have an LED Flash I wrote to them yesterday in an attempt to put this away once and for all.
I made it clear their reply must contain written proof to their web site specification claim.
Also I asked on a question of the Video supporting an LED light as this is also mentioned by handtec in the i9000's specification list. See the answer to that as well in the reply.
Their reply is listed below and also came with a .pdf attachment which I am also forwarding on here.
Below was the reply I received from them.
Message Received from handtec ~ Thursday 27th May 2010
Thanks for your email,
We have had this query once already today so it seems to be cause of great debate as you have mentioned, we have been doing our research to ensure you receive the correct information, and in response to this i can confirm the Samsung I9000 does have an LED Flash, however in regards to the video light we cannot confirm this until the device has been released and tested.
I am very sorry i could not answer your question at this current time however as soon as we have the item we will be more than happy to test this out for you, in the meantime the only information we have managed to obtain from our sources is shown on the attached file.
The above information is pretty much the only info we have on this, and very little concrete evidence of the Video LED is available, once we receive stock we will of course validate this and ensure the site is updated accordingly.
Please advise if we can assist you further?
Kind regards.

I wonder what that pdf is? I mean, it looks like a screencap from some site. Do you think that is handtec's distributer?
edit to add: All the places that have review device (gsmarena, for example) don't have a flash, but they also state that they had less RAM than the actual phone (256 vs 512), so maybe Samsung haven't actually finalized the details yet? I mean, they are being very secretive.
Personally, I don't think (given the details we know so far) that the phone has a flash, and so far ONLY handtec have stated that it does. I wish Samsung would release the detailed specifications!

I'm with you on this in that I do not believe there will or is an LED Flash.
However, as handtec have published it and sticking to their proof I have to publish it myself.
As to where the written pdf proof came from I am not sure.... It could have come from a Distributer who had initial findings sent by Samsung.

..and thank you for it!
I personally don't mind to much about the flash, but it would be nice to know for certain what we are buying! I guess it's only a week or two until we all find out for sure.

And where exactly have you based this short and tepid answer from?
I personally do not believe it will either but unlike your answer I chose to forward a 'debate' on the issue rather than a proclamation.
I mailed back too handtec for checking what their source is in this subject. If they are not lying us right up in the face I think Samsung Galaxy S will get a LED flash...

Cool! I am totally confused now as to why none of the review units have a flash, maybe it is a 16gb model thing.
It's possible the feature just wasn't enabled when they released the ROM for the demonstrators. If it is there, great, if not, meh, I've already ordered mine
An update from Chris Love of Clove ~ Chris has put in an email to the Product Manager to clarify the LED Flash.
The Product Manager is also coming down to see them on the 7th June when Clove showcase the i9000 to Smartphone Essentials Magazine.
So hopefully we may have an answer soon.

Thanks for the info!
How strange is it that Samsung haven't been clear on this? Is this normal for them, or are they being deliberately silent? I mean, detailed specs have so far come from people who have the unit, rather than the company itself. Maybe it's just to keep us all interested...

They have a close liaison with Apple and we know Apple have a habit in doing this and look at the interest they cause....
In a way you can understand their marketing strategy.... keep your customers starving for information and they will then go looking for it which in turn has a physiological effect in wanting more information and keeping the interest running at fever pitch.

Tell me about it.... I have not been this busy talking with sellers, magazines and other folk for absolutely ages.
Oh I would be so happy if they changed their mind on camera LED at the last moment. I grew kinda fond of the one on my old SE W850i, using it as a flashlight quite often.

I am hoping that the brightness of super amoled will be enough for a (weak) flashlight.
That will have to do in case the preproduction models were accurate, but you can't lock the screen then and it will be more demanding than a dedicated LED. Anyway, this won't stop me from getting one...

Ooh, I had one of them, it did make a pretty torch in a power-cut!
One snippet of information worth mentioning ~ The GSMArena Review.
GSMArena has stated there is no flash on the camera.
However...... when you look at those pictures from GSMArena they are from the earlier pre-production models.
The reason I say this is when you look at the supplied images on GSMArena and focus on the one that shows the back of the phone, now then look at the Speaker Grills and you see we have have two grills running horizontally.
Post production models have three grills running vertically... In other words there is 'something' fundamentally different that has changed to alter the Speaker Grill.

Well I just got off the phone with the verizon tech and he says, google just finished and released the 2.2 update for incredible last week, the problem is that it has to be tested, so this means we will not see it until late August or early September.
After talking to the tech I came across this.......
HTC DROID Incredible to be updated to Froyo end of July, early August
by Andrew Munchbach on July 19th, 2010 at 12:50pm
Filed under: AT&T, Android, BlackBerry, Exclusives, GSM, HTC, Mobile, Software, Verizon 111 Comments
We just received a juicy tip about the HTC DROID Incredible software update schedule that we’d like to share. One of our strategically placed Ninjas was kind enough to pass along an email from HTC that read as follows:
I wanted to pass along that the upcoming Incredible MR will also include Froyo (originally it was going to be two separate MRs).
We are targeting the end of the month/first part of August. As a reminder, below are the highlights:
■Froyo
■802.11 n
■3G Mobile Hot Spot
■HTC Widget: Email
■HTC Widget: News
■EAS Updates
■720p Video Recording
■Amazon MP3
■Skype
■My Verizon
Obviously, the news here is that the Incredible update that began rolling out this weekend will — in all likelihood — be halted, and a sexier, Froyo-inclusive update will be pushed out in the coming weeks. The update will also include 802.11n Wi-Fi support, 3G Mobile Hot Spot, 720p video recording, and more. Not bad news for Incredible owners. What do you think? Is Android 2.2 worth an extra few weeks of waiting?
VZW techs are morons. HTC releases it, not Google.
For that reason, don't believe what you heard.

Tech Blogs feed each other. One rumor starts at one end, and makes it all the way to the other. They are just regurgitating what BGR said. BGR has also admitted that the VZW twitter message did not come from VZW sanctioned employees. Its just a matter of time till we see this popup on Engadget and Gizmodo, if it hasn't already.

Hey were not all morons just most our because they aren't into the rooting or advanced stages of Android there just stupid, but yeah I do work for Verizon in the store and we have heard nothing about a 2.2 update, but most likely, just like everything else you and me will probably find out it before Verizon employees do because we pay attention to leaks and such and they don't, and Verizon doesn't tell employees anything until like a week or less before it releases.

Lol. My friend and his female acquaintance were getting Moto Droids thanks to the BOGO free offer. While one guy went in the back to do "paperwork", I ran behind the counter, started fumbling with the computer and was asking with people if they needed help with setting up anything. Gave my friend my incredible to take a picture of me while I was back there, and then I showed it to the employee. He kept looking around the area the picture had in the background and concluded that my "office looks just like his".
Can't post the picture because I'm a "new user", but I'm wearing my stylish 3d glasses I got from Toy Story 3 / 3d.
Also told him that Buzz died, and he said that he can't take his wife now because she'll cry too much.

I just got off the phone with a verizon wireless store rep, asking about the new car mount. After chatting about my new phone, he started telling me he got an email TODAY stating exactly what this says, this email came DIRECTLY from VERIZON. He stated his email clearly said the release for FROYO with all the mentioned features in this post was coming end of july / early august. AGAIN, THIS COMES DIRECTLY FROM VERIZON! Hope this helps the debate a little bit. I wasn't fishing for this information, the guy just happened to mention it.
Actual email, or its just an unsubstantiated rumor.

No,i will be in Pune on 17th,then to Mumbai with 1 of my friend.
Both of us are going for SGS 2,as per now the dealer has confirmed 1.2Ghz+Super Amoled Plus version. But the final price he is saying might go to Rs 32,000 also but then as two of us are going for it,we are quite confident of the deal for Rs 30,000
I would appreciate it if you would post some pics after the purchase. Ill take a trip down to Mumbai as well.

my thoughts exactly. a big authorized retailer would not risk the reputation and the relationship with Samsung by selling a phone [under the table?] prior to the official release date. But I have never been to India, may be it is standard practice there

Well, about that video. Damn that screen is nice!! I have been waiting for a vid to really show off the screen, this does it. Those blacks, omg!
Was it just me or was the Quadrant score in that video less then the one in the image posted a couple of days ago. It might be due to the processor speed or something else.
They might have the 1Ghz version.
I was thinking the same, I believe the score was 2500 vs the posted image of 3000.

Yea sorry to burst your bubble, but im pretty sure his big announcements are going to be to announce upcoming nexus devices.
I doubt we are going to see an official Gingerbread release for the vibrant because it doesnt just pop up over night, an official release require extensive testing, the likes of which usually result in leaks or at the very least somewhat substantiated rumors. If you recall in our wait for Froyo we saw countless leaks over the span of several months.
I for one cannot wait to see the announcement for the prime and other nexus devices. Im through with carrier branded devices.

Ah my bad, i only read the first page :x lol
I got his attention:
SamsungJohn,
I'm not meaning to harrass you at all, but is there any way you could shed some light on whether or not the Samsung Vibrant will be getting a gingerbread update?
It has been in question for a long time now, seeing as the other SGS devices got it... we are all kind of wondering why it was left in the dust. I mean, Gingerbread improves on the CPU the Vibrant is equipped with, bringing it to its full potential more-so than Froyo.
I, and many others purchased the phone on a 2 year contract with updates in mind. Its only a year old phone, it seems kind of rude that it has already been abandoned (if that is the case) I know you don't make all the decisions there at Samsung, but If you can see it from our point of view, could you maybe speak with someone that does have control over the situation?
I love the Hardware, beautiful screen, and Samsung in general... But please John, tell them they are going to lose future customers if they drop phones after such a short amount of time. It irritates people who bought a phone with the SGS label, and already people are seeing it as inferior to device to those of the same timeframe, such as the G2... Because HTC has kept the phone updated and their customers happy, Many of them will return to HTC for their next device.
Thanks for your time, and being a part of this community.

I haven't heard anything about the update for the Vibrant. As soon as I get some valuable information I will let you know.

Seriously I'm not hoping anymore, I'll just be disappointed anyway.
I just hope we'll be have a port of custom rom ICS.
Why don't you guys just use this as a freaking learning lesson. Don't purchase anymore Samsung phones (exception Samsung made Nexus).

Lol! Samsung is quality and there notches above everyone else and everyone knows that. Plus we have XDA for updates in my opinion

Maybe your energy should be focused at Tmobile, who had proven track record of not providing updates.
I do believe that going with non carrier based phones is the correct track.

I am not sure what SamsungJohn's official title or job is but he is certainly not in customer relations. He has never given a decent straight forward answer. I almost think I would rather have a lower quality phone that gets updates than a high quality hardware phone that never gets updated.
I love my phone but not releasing updates has made me think my next phone and tablet will not be a Samsung device. I have a 2.2.1 wifi Galaxy Tab that has never seen an update and a Vibrant with only one update. And to be fair, the update to FroYo on the Vibrant was something that it should have shipped with to begin with. To compound the issue we get no response or time frames on any updates. That is just horrible customer service.
Thanks for the hardworking of T-mobile or Samsung,
I wont get any Android products without "Nexus" in their ass
I will stay with T-mobile because it suits my current needs. 2 lines $130, unlimited un-throttled data on both; but I will never buy another phone that is not Nexus.
I almost rather be the douche with an Iphone, know it's being locked down, have less features, etc, but know I will have a working gps and support in 6 months. Being able to make calls....well they are all just holding the phone wrong anyway.

I'm really not sure when people are going to get it. It's Tmobile to blame, not Samsung.
As i wrote on the Ultimate GS3 Sudden death topic let's
make a TT like that( #SolveGalaxySIIISuddenDeath ) and maybe Samsung will care much about this topic. At least we can force them to explain the issue.
Samsung still sells phones, I don't think their care is stronk on this.

Mother board on devices bought between may amd agoust had nand corrupted. If u try to resurrect with pit u recive errors. The life times is 150-250 days and i think the problem was a mistake on production of devices.

They do care, after sales care is just as important as getting people to buy a product in the first place. The sudden death could do a lot of harm to Samsung if they just sweep it under the carpet, they will be seen as a company that puts a high price tag on inferior products.
Something all businesses believe "a good reputation takes years to achieve, and can be destroyed in seconds" In essence Samsung has taken years to build a good reputation (it's why most of us bought the S3) now if they don't at least try to solve the sudden death it could severely damage their reputation, and people will not buy their products.
And let's not forget the warranty repair costs to Samsung, we don't know how much they make out of each handset sold, but motherboard replacements for a lot of devices will heavily cut into their profit margins.

what a childy thing you said..
is obvious that only the elder phones can die at that range ( 150-250) simply because phones made later haven't reached that date
so is only a luck question and yes, they sold 40m of devices and how many died?
So please do not alarmate

Thats the key to this problem 40 million devices and how many SD .
Very very small number so far .
Twitter and all the rest surely a customer would be contacting Samsung both via service center for repairs and via a complaint letter to head office .

I have to pretty much agree with you on this, as the issue will put people (well people who research before buying) off of at least buying the S II, SIII and note 2. As I'm one of those people, and I'm sure there'll be others. I already bought one Samsung Note 10.1, and because of it, andI was thinking of updating my phone, and was considering the SIII but now I've found out about this, I'm in two minds.
And I'm sure there's others who are now thinking twice about buying more Samsung products in the future, so it's definitely in Samsung's interest to fix it and do so as quick as reasonably possible to prevent loss of face.

Sorry, forgot to include that. You know, i got lost in the moment
Still, I think it's great that developers can roll the update out to the consumers faster than samsung can send the official fix/update out ota.

Technically Samsung released the fix in their sources, so it's them that made the fix available to all of us through our developers. And OTA updates are slower because they need to be approved by regional operators.

Hello
With the S4 soon to be released (in april) theres a lot of talk about the phone on Facebook and on Twitter. It is therefore a good time to start writing on Samsungs' Facebook- and Twitter pages about the promised sources that we never recived and how you feel about that.
Hopefully we will get a response from Samsung (it has worked before) and if not we might have saved some people the trouble we have had with the lack of Exynos 4 sources.
This might be our best chanse to get the Exynos 4 sources sense Samsung probably don't wan't alot of bad pr on social networks right before the S4 going to be released.
If you honestly think that the mention of "exynos source" on a Facebook page will mean anything at all to your average buyer, you are sadly mistaken.
In Asian countries the concept of respect holds far more weight than in most Western economies....hence spamming and name calling will achieve absolutely nothing, in fact it may well be counter productive
If you want pure Android, buy Nexus
..... good luck with that.

Lol, how did I know you would post here? We had one guy who strongly believed immaturity and spamming would suffice, and he hasn't set foot in the S3 section (or maybe even XDA?) in months now.
Just.....can't.....help....it

The avrage buyer won't care sense they don't check Samsungs pages but some of the ones that do might change there opinion about getting a Samsung, but far from all.
Isn't the reason they promised the Exynos sources in the first place that they didn't wan't people to see the bad pr they got from us on social networks?
It has been a bit quiet sense the end of 2012 when they promised the sources to be released and they have not even said why the sources has not been released and it have soon gone 4 months. So just sit quiet and wait will never get us the sources.

I'm still of the opinion that people who want AOSP support should just buy the Nexus 4 or should flock to devices that are known to have stable CM support. Having CM on devices is a bonus. I however bought my Galaxy S2 and S3 because of the stock experience with the possibility of flashing custom roms. I think its ignorant to buy a device and expect support for something which they have not promised. The only question one needs to ask is if CM will maintain the S600 version of the phone.

No CM official support for S4 is really bad. I'm sure some adventurous dev will step in and provide unofficial builds... Some people just want to watch the world burn.

I don't know where Lirkaren is from, but here in Sweden a Nexus costs as much as a normal phone. Although they've dropped a bit in price, they still cost well over $600 here.
Just thought I'd clear the air about that.
And all the new phones (GS4, SXZ, HTC One) will all cost around $970-1000 unlocked.
