hey i just got a x10i and somehow my clock on my home page is different from the time on the top right corner, somehow my time stop on my home screen, does anyone know how can i fix it. also my facebook update stop too.
Sounds like you've got a task killer screwing things up. Make sure the widget is on the ignore list. Or stop using task killer altogether. ( they don't actually help at all).

ya right i do have a task killer. is that why mine clock won't work. i found that task killer isn't doing a good job right now, do u have any suggestion software for ending programs. and thanks for telling me that.
I removed my task killer altogether and found that my phone runs faster and battery actually lasts longer.. So my suggestion is to remove it!

i have found this advance task killer, seems working fine, don't know if you have try it out before.
I use taskiller free (the one who has a red droid icon). I have told it to ignore all the widgets I use, and it gets the job done, with a very small memory footprint. In my case I have to charge the battery every 16 hours, so can't talk too much about battery performance...
Been using it since I had my htc magic and works quite well

Palringo is a pretty cool IM'ing app. The first time I installed it I found that my battery was getting chewed up even when the program was not running. I had some other problems with lock up. I uninstalled and after a couple of months I thought I would try it again.
Seems to be the same issues. Battery drain and some general lock up problems.
Wondering whether others have had similar problems.
never locked, using the current version (no beta). battery drain... I don't know really, I open it only when I need to chat, otherwise it stays shut so nobody bothers me
maybe you want to try beta version? it's been updated every 48 hours these weeks

Curious, if I close Palringo using the Task Mgr. I seemingly still show available to my contacts because they can IM me and I get a little envelope on my taskbar. If I touch that I get an option to open Palringo and then I can reply. So it seems that even when it is closed it is functiong somehow.

I think there is an option somewhere to define wether you want it to run in the background or not...
Great programme, i don't use it though anymore since i somehow messed the contact list and now it shows only few of them. The same with the PC client
I updgraded to the latest beta, no lockups at all, about battery I can't tell, I just chatted and messed around a few minutes. Be sure to disable the location service!!
I absolutely LOVE Palringo.
I do not go mobile w/o using this app I don't know if it uses a lot of battery, but I can say that this IM app is much better than a lot of others.
I even went PREMIUM, but sadly it doesn't work with the new MANILA/SENSE screens . They said soon it'll work and just imagine how nicely it will be implemented into 6.5.3 or 6.5.5

well have you checked task manager, cause when you click the "X" to close the program it only minimises it and doesnt close it. thats why your probably still receiving messages.
btw this is one of the best IM apps, although i wish they had implemented MySpace as well :/
Same problem here, battery drainage after I opened Palringo.
I've got this problem since I updated Palringo to version 2.5.6 r39750
If I close Palringo before going to bed I can be pretty sure to not be woken by my phone in the morning... Although sleeping long is pretty sweet, I don't like this behaviour too much.
Closing through the taskmanager (which tells me Palringo doesnt respond) leaves an icon on the taskbar. When I click that icon I get to choose between opening Palringo and closing the program. After closing (or trying to open) the icon vanishes and Palringo isn't listed in the taskmanager anymore. So far so good, but if I don't restart my phone, it will suck down the juice like me at an open bar ...
I didn't find any solution to this. Tracking is turned of.
I'm now trying to:
Close Palringo via the close-button of Palringo.
Set my status to offline before closing.
If you try to kill Palringo using the "x" button or a task manager it doesn't close itself, although it doesn't appear on the list anymore. Check running processes using a specialized process viewer, for example SKTools.
Quickfix: Use the exit menu in Palringo to quit the application.

I have Home++ I use the kill all feature on the rocket dock. it then says your free memory is 160mb. which am happy with, and then 5 - 10 minutes later, with my phone just being idle, i click on to see what apps are running and. i have about 15 apps running. from doing nothing.
Not sure why my apps run automatically, also when i turn on my phone, every single app turns on. WTF!!!
It's meant to. That is how android and linux works.

thats simply not the way it works, let them run, if the o/s sees there is another program that wants some ram it will clear some by killing lesser priority apps.
I stopped using task killers about 3 weeks ago. My phone runs much quicker now I've stopped killing everything... Let the tech do it's own thing and it works surprisingly well....

have you even tried to use the phone without a task manager? the apps in the background are in a frozen state, which means they are simply cached in the ram so when you restart them they open instantly AND retain the old state. there is absolutely no reason to kill an program unless the program bugged out.
mine runs ok i have this kind of apps called FSFILE EXPLORER in this apps wen i hit the menu you can see task manager then all previous apps that i open it highlighted into green color hit kill selected witch is highlighted then memory increase.... nothing is running on the idle.
unused ram is wasted ram
Ok guys will uninstall my task killer and see how i get on thanks
The advice of not killing aps doesn't really wash when you have apps that cause battery drain. I find that killing apps increases battery life.

So when the X10 first got released, everyone was blaming Moxier for being a battery pig regardless if you were using it or not. Are we now saying that isn't true?
That's correct - Moxier doesn't use any juice (not noticeable anyway).. I ran a test with wifi off and data/ mms off over night.. so it was just basically a dumb phone with loads of fancy apps.. it used 2% in about 8 hours...
No start up auditor, no task manager... I am running Helix Launcher.
It's natural to not want apps running in the background. What's the first thing you want to do to optimise your PC? Remove unused startup processes and background tasks. It's more important for a phone which has more limited resources than a PC.
I don't use Moxier Mail, Timescape or PlayNow. But for some reason they all open themselves up in the background every so often.
Iceman, I feel pretty lame for trying to manage the apps so much. Going to try a the same test tonight to see what happens.

I use Advanced Task Killer (free version) and works pretty well on my phone. Some people say not to use one but have yet to see any evidence of why not to other than peoples opinions, so it's up to you whether or not you want to use one.

Mine works much better without task killers. No lags at all... And i tried many of them. It´s just my opinion, dude. You can find many threads about this to get your own: to use or not task killers.

edit: And I use ADW (last update) and 026 firm non rooted. No task killer. No startup manager. And everything is just fine.

ohk. ill try to do both things... thanks a lot for the help! =)
I don't feel like writing out the full reason for why not to use a task killer.
Luckily for me, this link explains it nicely.
http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
Once you give it a read, you can google around and you will find other sources which give you the same info in a bit more detail.
As for the widget problem? I have yet to experience it unless I am changing a setting on ADW (pretty much any changed setting under ADW settings will result in my widgets reloading). However, I never experience it other than that. I imagine the task killer is your problem.
Good luck!
Again, it is an opinion, but without ATK, I would not be able to fully use ADW. You can explain the logic about why one should or should not use a task killer. My own personal experience shows that my battery and phone performs better with the free version of ATK.
[Note: the link to the geekfor.me as posted by ^^ says that Android automatically kills tasks when more memory is needed. NOT true with the X10. That is why the phone re-starts from time to time. SE's own support site list this as an issue. Once I have started using ATK, my phone does not re-starts by itself anymore].

"Android is hard coded to automatically kill a task when it’s done doing what it needs to do."
So why then does it leave tasks running when you close them, for example, if I use Meridian then close it, the app will still show in the ATK list, and remains there until I shut it down. When you boot the phone, it loads a few apps, that would remain there unless I use ATK. The first reply to the article sums up the experience of a lot of users.

Mine has never re-started itself without task killer.
I use Advanced Task Manager since I started using X10 with ADW Launcher. It was all fine at the begining. Then I reinstalled software and restored aplications (without settings) and started experience the same problem as OP. So I have changed some settings in ADW, especially paying attention to System Preferences and UI settings. I don't know excatly what I have changed but I do NOT experience any problems with ADW "restarting" after that. So in my opinion this problem is down to setting ADW properly, only.
My ADW was experiencing that as well and I enabled ADW Settings > System Preferences > System persistent
This seemed to fix it for me.
ATK and similar apps are a personal choice, I used ATK until late June but since uninstalled the phone had run smoother. But then, it's rooted and overclocked...
ADW is probably the best home, openhome and panda have issues and xxx too crashes too often

Hello
I am making this topic in the general section because beautiful widgets is a very common application and is used by many people.
Earlier I was using a 3rd party task killer but with samsung app which is available in the latest version I thought that there is no need to use any other.
Anyone noticed when you clear RAM using Samsung task manager and select just "Level 1" even then it kill beautiful widgets and then the clock is just stuck at the time and it doesnt update.
Only workaround is to trash and add the widget again. Sadly samsung task manager doesnt even have option to add some apps to ignore. In that case its pretty much unusable!
I dont know if its as common as you may think. I have both the samsung task killer and beautiful widgets and it doesn't cause a problem for me.
I see the same problem. Would be nice to be able to exclude some apps/widgets that one never wants killed.
I do not have this problem awith buitifull widget. I have the problem with adw launcher.

replied to the wrong thread.. sorry..
Same here but after killing the widget is loading automatically. Also the menu is closed when the ram is cleaned.

I have installed a third party task manager now by rhythm software which seems to be good. Its sad though that the defailt manager doesnt have tje option to add apps o ignore list when every third party app seems to br having it.
I always used an task killer, now that i'm on jpk fw, i only use the integrated samsung taskmanager to kill programs that are running in the background, he's keeping himself at 230MB free memory at pretty much all time =/
Stable build while having +230MB free memory, never ever to be using a taskkiller again, cos you'll ruin the autoupdates from widgets and stuff, ofcourse..
Widgets are kept updated

With Froyo things would change. But since Currently there is no official update and the phone has Eclair there are RAM issues sometimes.
With 2.1 I saw the available RAm many times around +33MB and after dumping the processes maybe max 140MB and not without the expectable widgets update problems. Sooo, for the time being, live with it! ^^
Froyo will solve all these problems for you, they just have to polish it up a bit; making more use of the option-button than de current un-official build has.
Hi,
im having battery drain problems the phone wont last more than 5-6 hours send 20-30 texts listen to some music, i have turned off backgroud data and live wallpapers, im using something called advanced task killer free to kill the apps that are running, but i close them the re open the task bar and stuff like music player has reopened
ive also seen a post about which batterys are better is there a better one i can buy? my batterys a G7
any ideas ?
cheers
Hello friend, this is being discussed all over the forums, check this thread to get some idea of what could be happening.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884816
Apparently one cause of this drainage is the 2.2.1 firmware, seems like previous firmwares didn't had this problem.
Good luck

Well you did answer your question yourself.
Stoop using task killers. They do more harm then good.
In your case the task killer end a program. The program starts again. The task killer end it again and the program starts again..... Do you see the pattern? You phone work alt and don't sleep. Ofcourse it will drain battery..
