Not sure. But that's not the browser. Maybe final release will fix it. I unjust want a complete browser. Flash is one step Closer now needs Html5
No HTML5 support is incorrect, it does have it, it's just not complete support.
The Android browser is based on WebKit, and it has close to the same support for HTML 5 as all the other popular browsers. It even beats Firefox on some points. I'm guessing the issue with videos + HTML 5 on youtube.com is down to missing support for the applicable video codecs.
Edit: Correction. Results from html5test.com: Android Browser gets 122 - Firefox 3.6.4 gets 101. I don't have anything else to test with, but I think 122 is pretty decent.
Firefox has support for ogg theora, but not h.264 due to cost and h264 proprietary nature . Chrome desktop has support for both, i would have assumed chrome android would have the same support.

This was also my impression from the limited testing I've been able to do.... lack of support for wifi proxy makes testing data services quite expensive when deployed :-D

The difference is that with Chrome, Microsoft and Apple pay the h.264 license fees. With Android, Google supplies the operating system but I believe the OEMs are responsible for any license fees. $5 million is a bigger deal for HTC than it is for MS or Apple.
Gotcha. So it does just missing some codects for all content ...
Do you have the browser set to Desktop or Android? That may make a difference.
i'm pretty sure when you go to google's mobile page for android, i.e. the homepage on the browser, and do some searches under images, you get all kinds of html5 used pages. anyone else noticed this?

Uninstalled actually, never liked Flash
Kind of surprised the HTML5 video doesn't open, tho.
If you open http://html5test.com on your N1, it will tell you that none of the video codecs are supported. That's why it doesn't work.

are there any .flv players for the g1, i've found nothing about it on the forum
flash player? google it. they are working on it. there is even a video or a picture of some sort of a demo.
no .flv players as of yet. we've been promised flash support for a long long time and they even had a working demo back in december. i'm still dubious as to whether it's actually gonna get released =/
if it does, they'll probably make us pay for it or something

Not even sure it's gonna be available to G1 devices at all. I read somewhere that proper flash support might require different/better hardware to work properly, which means it might not work on the G1 even if it comes to Android.

I concur.
Adobe has a long way to go to make flash accessible to lower end mobile devices. Based on their track record so far, I would say that if it does show up, it will be so laggy that it will be nearly unusable.
I would say that we have a better chance of seeing a successor to flash take over than ever seeing flash play a video at ~30fps on the G1.

Did you actually watch that video? It was mostly stills, and what little animation it had was laggy as hell.
just realised, if you connect to your home computer through VNC you can watch flash videos, and they (kinda) look alright. i say kinda...
i know it's not the phone playing them but, i'm sure the phone could play flv's tbh. my fkin LG Viewty could play Flash Videos and that was a pile of crap.

the animation wasn't too bad and it was just an early concept.
my point is, if it was fairly ok in november (just checked video ) if they have actually been working on it (which i doubt) it should be pretty good by now.
I'd rather have ok flash support than no flash support at all.
stupid adobe
I don't think we need Flash players to play swf files.
I got my TCPMP to play .flv videos on my WinMo device. So now I can download YouTube or any FLV videos to play on my WinMO device. The only thing that TCPMP needed was an ability to read the FLV container as the videos are standard H264 encoded.
Is there anyone working on porting TCPMP over to Android?
Or is anyone working on getting the existing Video player on Android to read the FLV file formats?
cheers

i thought the latest version of honeycomb was supposed to enable hardware acceleration for flash? Seems no different to me or maybe flash adverts run smoother..had a Toshiba folio which was running 2.2 back in November last year. Flash seems to have not really improve since then. To be honest I am getting sick of waiting and wonder if this is down to limitations of the tegra chip again? I want to be able to watch BBC I player in HD. Just stutters. Definately think if the frame rate improved it would look amazing on the transformer. Standard play black looks very pixelated. Ipad performance in term of playback is miles better on the Iplayer site (know the BBC would of optimised performance for the ipad) whole point of having flash on a tablet is sites like Iplayer should run smooth without special support.

Hmmmmm. Most posts I have read disagree. You Tube only works smoothly via the app. I player is smooth but only when watching Sd video. If you try and stream anything HD it falls over.. You have to change the settings in your browser to appear as a desktop otherwise the bbc website defaults to mobile and all content is standard definition. Things like the BBC HD channel won't even be listed. Sorry the other person who posted that flash performance on the Asus was just as good as their desktop must have a poo PC........

The test video does not load. I have a 30 mb broadband connection but it is only showing just over 3mbps for utube speed average and my connection to the router is 72 mbps which i thought is fairly good. May have a quick play with my wireless router.
For those with flash lags, what site(s) is this happening on? I'd love to test them out. Flash has been quite solid, but it's not working on the browers I use (Firefox, Opera, etc.).

No lag here.
There's no lag with 420p were getting lag with 720p wich was supposed to be fixed in 3.1 and it was clearly not
Well i read this could be an issue with my ISP virgin media. However, not sure how likely this is my PC performance with both youtube and iplayer is excellent. Unless this is a specific issue with android and my router which is possible. Sorry can I check again can anyone in the uk access BBC Iplayer with watchable playback in HD? Could be a wider issue with some types of routers. Anyone getting more than a 72mbps connection speed to their router.

In VLC and most desktop video clients, the program allows you to browse the file system of a network share when attempting to open media of any sort, be it audio or video.
Does anyone know of a honeycomb app that can browse network shares and play videos contained within without a janky sync process or desktop client software to install? I heard about uPnPlayer, but its UI is far from tablet optimized.
Please don't tell me I'm the only one nerdy enough to have a streaming only video collection

Here's hoping touchwiz doesn't ruin honeycomb, then.
Instead of looking for a network video player look for a network file manager like ES FIle Manager. Go to the folder you want and open the video file. The default player will play it.

It should be noted that AllShare is a DLNA app and isn't exactly what the OP is talking about. This is probably the best solution though, imo.
In the meantime there are some applications that will do the same thing that AllShare does, albeit with a lot less flare:
uPnPlay - similar to AllShare. If you use this - download Rock Player. It has much better Codec support and uPnPlay will allow you to select your video player of choice.
ES File Explorer also has a built in video player that will play some codecs directly from a fileshare. You have to setup the share through ES File Explorer.
Hope this helps - if someone else has any better solutions than these - please share!! I would love to see how others achieve this.

My experience with Allshare is with the Epic 4G and it is crap really. You can't seek forward or backwards, and it's really limited on options, formats and features.

Rock Player will play MKVs. Last time I used it to play an MKV it didn't parse any of the subtitles out, however. Worth a shot either way.
I too have a media server in my home. On my phone I just use V Player and enter in the URL to my server.... I haven't done anything on my tab yet. I imagine that would work... provided VPlayer is optimized for a tab. I haven't tried yet.
Let's face it, no matter how much business you can make with your Nexus 7, a tablet is designed mainly for entertainment. A bigger screen usually means that we get to enjoy certain medias on a bigger screen, aka videos. However not every streaming website can afford or even cares enough to have fancy apps like Youtube and if you stream live channels online for emergency sports on your work computer you would know that flash still plays a part in our daily life.
As Adobe quits on Flash on our future Androids to get everyone into the HTML5 stage, PC users will still have a fairly high amount of data for grabs through Flash but our tablets will be losing that whole side of information while the transition goes through. Although I don't, but I could imagine my girlfriend playing an online Flash game on my 7 but it won't happen anymore.
and... we lose one thing to show-off to the iOS users...
How is everyone else coping with the fading of Flash on our mobile devices?

pretty easy to get flash..

After that, I still had some newer flash content saying it needed the latest flash player, so installed the two flash players from this thread:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...189897-no-flash-got-you-down-try-fix.html#anb
Works perfectly now!
Yeah I was bummed out when I first read that on Adobes web site. Yeah eventually most sites will hopefully change or add support for our tablets and phones to compensate foir Adobe doing that however being that we have the lovely OS that we do there are very easy workarounds! I installed the AOSP browser @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780746 and flash @ https://www.dropbox.com/s/cgsd3gyy7v6c90j/com.adobe.flashplayer-1.apk This is great too because I prefer the AOSP browser (I love the full screen mode with quick controls). The bookmarks don't sync though.. So I just kept the Chrome Bookmarks widget on my homescreen and set the default browser as Browser. Works like a charm!
I despise flash so I don't miss it on my device, at least not for anything important. Bring on HTML5!
yea everyone despises flash. high CPU usage low performance. but it has been playing such a big part in the past 10 years or so that it might just be TOO sudden a change when not everyone has gone to HTML5 and officially taken out flash as a whole. This might hurt Android as it is a crucial time Post-Jobs for android to have a major counter attack on iOS and an obvious visible advantage has been taken out.
I sideloaded flash & firefox for iplayer but other than that I haven't missed, the sooner flash dies the better.

I'm hoping someone can help me with this dilemma:
JB, and most of the mobile world, it seems, no longer support Flash and are moving toward HTML5. Yet, ESPN continues to treat Android tablets as Flash-capable and don't play videos on my TF300T.... unless I switch the user agent on the stock browser to ipad (gasp!),at which point HTML5 videos are displayed and play fine (though browser FC occur after full screen viewing).
However, and I don't know enough about building ROMs to fully comprehend, the stock browser on stock-based ROMs don't include the option for selecting a different user agent, whereas CM10 and Baked 6 do.
I've read great posts about the performance of some ROMs, but I've always switched back once I find that I can't play videos on ESPN's web site. Can someone fill me in on how I could get *all* sites that support HTML5 to provide that by default?
Thanks in advance.

cromi 3.0.4 is clean rom inheritance. its a custom rom based on stock asus rom. works well for me and the fellow that made it seems to be supporting as well as anyone could. anyway it has flash player built in although you can actually just install the apk on any rom if you go to old versions of adobe flash player then scroll down to find the latest for ice cream sandwich (4.0) and download it. but it never worked as well in any other rom as it does in this one, at least for me.

Oh, I see. My issue is that I feel that I shouldn't have to pollute my tablet with outdated, unsupported software to get basic functionality that is otherwise accessible by mimicking an ipad via the browser's user agent. I mean, the functionality is right there in the browser and works much better than flash.
I should also be able to use any third party browser, including those that don't offer flash support (i.e Firefox) without websites thinking "oh, an android device; load up the outdated video player." That's probably a point to make to ESPN, I suspect.

I would say your right. Its my wish that web site makers would get to working on this issue. I like to read marvel comics unlimited and they use flash as well nor have they at this time made an app to read on android so if you don't enable flash then your out of luck on a mobile device.
