I've just noticed that www.facebook.com is redirecting to m.facebook.com. It didn't used to do this. I'm using Opera. How do I stop this? I want to see the full facebook version.

I edited opera:settings so it doesn't identify as a mobile browser anymore.
You have to change HTC_TOUCH_HD_8282 (Opera WinCE... etc.) to something else.
Lol, still can't remember the name of the setting, it's an identifier for sure... help me out..
oh i see... i think i changed that setting in opera config so that i could view the bbc iplayer. maybe i should change it back.
edit - no, deleting shg-i900 from the custom user agent in opera:config didn't fix it. this must be something facebook has change recently. when i bought the phone i was able to see the full facebook site by clicking on the link in favorites.
It's usually called the User Agent - I need to pick up my Touch HD from where it's been delivered, so can't help you out with the exact name that Opera uses right now...
If I click on a link in an email or via RSS, Internet Explorer always opens up.
I've spent some time using the search tool on here to try and find an answer, but I still can't get it to play ball.
Is it possible and if so can someone please explain?
Thanks
Kevin
Hey, I've had this exact problem, I fixed it by typing OPERA:CONFIG into the URL bar in opera and hitting GO. NHow, in the options you'll see INSTALL... click on it and hit the default button. it promps that you may have to restart, so reset the phone, then try your RSS when you turn on again. All should be well!
Good luck!
BANE
This didn't do it for me. Any other ideas?

did you install another browser such as skyfire before then uninstalled it? upon uninstall of third party browser, they will revert back to IE, not the previous value before install (which should be opera.
i fixed mine a while ago using a bunch of registry edits. but i dont' remember where exactly. you need to go to \windows\ and locate the IE's file name, such as iexplorer.exe or ie.exe. whatever it is. then search for that in the registry, whenever you see that, change it to operal.exe (or whatever the opera executable is called, it's also under\windows\)
let me know if it works for you
had exactly the same problem after trying skyfire and uninstalling. the opera fix mentioned doesn't work... looks pretty, asks for a reboot but IE still runs up.
somewhere around this point my list of RSS feeds got wiped... no idea why. hmm.
thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2360767&postcount=16 doesn't work either.
suggests changing Default Browser key:
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Rai/: DEFBROWSER/1 to operal.exe from iexplore.exe
no joy still.
however changing in same place, MSPIE: to operal.exe and then doing a reboot works.
may not be the perfect way to do this but Google Maps and RSS Reader now use Opera as wanted.

Default reinstating Opera Mobile as a default browser
Tested and works as a charm
COPYASTE from http://discuss.pocketnow.com/showthread.php?t=25285
"You can actually reinstate Opera Mobile as the default browser (PIE would have been made the default browser if you had installed another browser such as Skyfire or Iris, and uninstalled them subsequently).
Launch Opera Mobile manually via Start Menu > Programs. In the address bar, enter "opera:config" and go to the page. The "Preferences Editor" page will be shown. Scroll down until you see "Install". Tap on it to expand the section. Enable the tickbox for "Browser First Time Launch", then tap "Save".
You have now reinstated Opera Mobile as the default browser.

Splendid, works after soft reset.

Not working for me - I still have sux0r PIE when I follow links fom other apps :-(
I've tried it with and without pushing the 'default' button next to the checkbox. Anyone know what that button's for? I also tried the registry hax... but with no joy.
Spotted an updated ROM on the HTC site and installed it. Technically not a fix, I know, but based on how the dev guys at work do stuff... it still counts ;-)
a bit drastic as a fix.
the opera fix didn't work for me, asked for soft rest, and did all the necessary things but no joy.
changing the MSPIE registry entry did though , and has been fine since.
I have a weird problem on my Touch HD. Using Opera, if I google a subject and access the page found, the font is screwed. (rectangles and zeros). Same on Google news. Summary items all OK, but retrieving full text on SOME sites is screwed. If I go directly to a page WITHOUT googling it, results are OK. If I use IE, all is OK - news items fine.
This was all working fine until two days ago. (for six months). It appears that Google is somehow either setting a dodgy font, or a font that it selects was working, but is not now. I have not knowingly installed anything new, nor changed the config. Has Google changed?
I would really appreciate some help here please.

Not sure if this will help the font sometimes gets screwed up and ends up being wingdings font, but usually only when trying to type in a forum for instance
Your case seems a little different but you could try typing 'ABOUT:CONFIG'
and have a look at the fonts menu
Hope that helps

You can also try changing the default Tacoma font in the registry.
Try this site for reference on editing System fonts in Windows Mobile. I know it's about adding Korean fonts, but the method still works for changing the default font to Segoe UI. (just skip the part about adding Gulim fonts).

Hope that helps!
Cheers.
thanks for suggestions
Hi . THanks to both of you for replying. Ozmoran, I checked the Fonts and all are either Tacoma or Courier. Not having changed these I am puzzled why I have this problem unless Google has changed the way it delivers pages. I posted this on Google support (one reply says Opera at fault), and Opera support seems non-exisitant. SCSCC3, I tried the link to update the fonts but it's dead I'm afraid, and I'm not sure I understand why you suggested a change to Segoe UI?. I am really at a losss to explain why all HD touch users aren't having the same problem if the problem is down to Google? So much so that I assume it must be something that has happened to me, so maybe the next step is to restore from my Sprite backup image and see what happens.
solved eventually
Well, I restored from backup to one week ago, well before the time when I first saw this problem. This did not solve the issue. Then I downloaded and installed Opera MObile 9.7 beta. Installed that, and although it didn't replace the version loaded from the Touchflo icon, when run from Programs menu, it worked OK, and all sites loaded OK. What is really interesting is that when I tried the original Opera again.....it worked fine!! Perhaps the new Opera downloaded some fonts? Anyone know how to make the TouchFlo icon load the new version?

But I'm glad you got it sorted out eventually..
Hi scscc3
Link is working for me now too. ... site must have been down earlier for some reason. I'll look at it anyway, so thanks for the information.
When you click on a Link from google, Google generates a Mobile version of the Website you visit. At the end of the page there must be a Link to show the site originally!

Hi
I am currently having this problem as well. All of a sudden any mobile friendly web pages are displaying squares and circles(font problem).
I have tried flashing new ROM,tried to hard reset the device and even tried to download opera 9.7b but unfortunately to no avail
Any help appreciated a this i now annoying
Just noticed the same thing is happening with my HD. It's only happened recently, the only common link i can see is that i Installed and then removed Oper 9.7beta. I have now re-installed and fonts still displaying as squares and circles.... Very frustrating!
saga goes on..
Well I thought I'd sorted this out. As per post above, all was working after installing Opera 9.7b. Two hours later....squares and zeros again - in old AND new Opera pages! I uninstalled then reinstalled 9.7b. Still the same issue. This is all very odd indeed. In the end I have had to change config in Google to uncheck the "phone" formatting. That fixes the issue, BUT this has always been on before, and definitely was when it seemed to be working for a while. I can't help but conclude that Google has changed some aspect of the way pages are delivered, in a way that Opera doesn't handle, and that IE does. I have logged a bug with Opera for this.

I came to a similar conclusion, changed my google default settings from mobile to regular page viewing. Since there are a few of us with the problem and it persists after ROM flash and hard reset it must be a fault googles end.
Not sure we can conclude that. It does seem that Google have changed something, BUT IE works fine. It's a question of whether the change is something that adhers to accepted standards, or not. If it does, and the fact that IE works would suggest it is OK, then Opera is where the fault lies. Of course there is the possibility that it is a change outside accepted protocols, that works on IE, but it is interesting to note that Skyfire works fine as well. If I get any feedback from Opera I will post here. If anyone wants to chase Google to get them to say what they have changed then please do!
Looks bad for Opera!
PS I was not that impressed with Skyfire Display quality was not good, and it's very slow to start up.
Since nothing has changed with Opera the only change can come from Google's side that does not agree with something in Opera.
Agreed skyfire is handy in how it streams every media type, but not having WVGA resolution and its archaic IE style interface makes it a no-no for me.
I've also been having the same problem on the TP2 as of the last week or so. Exactly the same circumstances as others have mentioned and I'm now curious as to what is the problem.
Same problem here for a week or so. Have been on Duttys R8 since it came out but the problem only started recently. Flashed to Duttys R11 and the problem is still there.
i'm also having the same problem, very annoying. can't work out how to change google so it no longer uses mobile formatiing. could someone point me in the right direction?
i can see at the bottom of the page you can view in ''Mobile¦Classic', but there must be a way for it to 'remember' this setting, so i dont have to scroll to the bottom and click it every time i do a search
Thanks
I'm having that problem with Google Maps. It's in this tiny script; can't really read it.
the config that works
You need to change your google settings first. Go into Opera browser and start google. Then select "settings" on google home page, and turn OFF the "Format Web Pages for your Phone" option. Then go into Opera config screen and choose "display". Set the "Mobile view" option on. This works for me, with all web pages I retrieve displaying correct data, and the pages are formatted to suit the phone. Good luck, and if anyone gets to the bottom of why google changed something, I'd love to know! The fault may be with Opera, but it all used to work with the above settings reversed.
The main app any tablet user uses is the Browser I'd assume and unfortunately its the weak spot on Honeycomb.
Viewing most desktop sites is very unbearable (try facebook, XDA, Google Plus) as the page lags, and text input is very difficult as well (huge lag)
Do any devs have any idea how to improve the speed on this stock browser in custom roms or so, I remember a kernel on the Xoom fixed things
This link has more info:

If we could get a fix for this I could finally love my tab.
There is a lot less lag on the bonsai rom, but it's not completely gone. Ultimately google will have to be the to fix it.
theyve never mentioned it /acknowledged it
thats the worrying part
Ya know what actually, as,much as i dont like the look of the browser, opera mobile is the best functioning browser ive ever used. There is no browser lag, it render eveything exactly the way my desktop does. Im very suprised that google cannot mirror whatever opera mobile has done.
Ill give you an example of where opera finally got it right...
Try and do a search on xdas site and see what happens. It opens the text box for a second and then it drops the keyboard. Its never works and it is so annoying.
Now try it on opera mobile. Oh my god, it works!
It doesnt work on dolphin, firefox or any other browser ive tried. Opera mobile it works. Can a super sharp coder figure out a way to take whatever opera has in it and put it in the stock HC browser??
it`strange becouse in some forums is all ok, in other the text is very very slow :-(

I tried Opera and everything works great except two things. the first is that often times you will enter text in a text box, and then when you minimize the keyboard to click the submit button, it removes everything you just typed! I had this happen to me about 5 times and then I gave up and uninstalled it. The other issue is mainly a preference, but the tabs suck! Give me real tabs like the stock browser. opera and Firefox have a horrible tab implementation on Android.

Plus I am very tired of getting to the "mobile" version of the websites.
Its a 10 inch Tablet..
Google needs to give this thing a Desktop identity and load the desktop version of the websites. One thing Apple is doing right with the iPad.
Even better get rid of this Chrome Based Android Mobile Browser and put there the real Chrome.

even when I've manually set the useragent to a desktop browser, I still get kicked to the mobile versions of some sites. And sites like...google search, which should know better!
I've tested a bunch of browsers at this point and none of them are perfect. I think dolphin comes closest, but it definitely has little things that are annoying (such as it being way to easy to close the wrong tab)

I know. But after a while is going back to default.
I cant changing and play with the settings every other day.
Plus regular people cannot deal with such advance settings. I personally know 3 people they went with the iPad because of this.

I am a little confused. I don't have an issue with the browser or the typing...The pages load and scroll perfect and there is little to no lag at all on my typing. There can be a slight lag at times when i use the Keyboard/Dock but that is it.
Does anyone else have no issue?
As i say in the title, after the last update i have an issue with the browser and i can see many websites in mobile mode only. In the settings i have (as usual) user agent = desktop !
I have :
1) cleared the cache
2) done a cold boot
3) changed user agent in mobile mode - reboot - changed again in dektop mode - reboot
but without a positive result -_-
Please tell me anything i can do. Thanks.
P.S.
I'm not the only one with this issue, according with comments seen in some blog...
Same here
:/
But where is or when come out the solution ?
Asus knows this issue ?
The only solution I have had is to switch browsers. I find that one must have the stock browser as well as Opera and Dolphin, at a minimum. Each one seems to see the same site in different ways
Same here. Browser in general seems less buggy and much faster but many websites, such as the Gawker family, seem to be trying to force mobile no matter what now. In fact setting user agent to tablet seems to fix this for some sites while desktop works for others or neither work.
Same here too. It's very annoying and I don't see any improvement in the stock browser. Still loads web pages slowly and I can still see blocks when scrolling on some sites.
Otherwise SuperNote is nice but it's not enough to make the update worthy.
I agree Nikola ! Browser is same as before but with this issue.
I use Maxthon browser for now...i hope this bug will be solved sooooon.
How the hell is it that Google, the author of the best browser around (Chrome), can screw up the Android built-in browser so bad?!!?!??!
Geez - as hard as I tried, I just cannot use it as my default browser any more... Back to Dolphin!
I accidently found a fix by flashing the Circle battery/Xoom button file.

Thanks for posting this. I mentioned it the FW threads but it probably got buried. I have been having the same problem with no fix in sight. NYtimes.com just won't force to desktop mode, and neither does Google! Using Opera for now...
IF I'm not mistaken, both google and NY Times have an option within the web page for desktop version. If it's there it will be in tiny font

Google has, but NY Times does not.
For NY Times (international access) the quickest way is to select the "Site help" link and from that page the "Go to home page". That brings up the desktop view of the home page.
Too bad we have to apply all sort of tricks when it's Google that didn't test enough before releasing updates to the browser.

Right...however NY Times opens in the desktop version on both Opera and Dolphin
If you are fortunate enough to have rooted your Transformer then you can apply my fix that I posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18053134&postcount=469
For Users that do not have root, given that Asus added the new user-agent url lookup thing then I hops they will soon do something on their server so that the Desktop setting brings up Normal web pages and not mobile ones.
I see NYT in full without any tricks. Some sites were pushing mobile versions, but after finding link for full version on each one everything is fine.
However, new browser brings drop down button with back/forth/reload buttons, so you don't need to scroll from bottom to top for them. Big thing. Also I found option for openning new tab in background, although I am not sure if it was there before.
What I need (besides more speed) is back/forth history on long press, so I can jump several pages. And a spell checker.
I would also like content of browser to be preserved in memory when I am using another application. Android is too aggresive in clearing memmory, flushing to storage should be used.
Thanks Roach, you are indispensable.
Then a new firmware is not needed because, as noticed, sometime a website goes on mobile mode and sometime goes on desktop mode.
Right ?
