Has anyone done the update from t-mobile ? - HD2 General

Saw the one thread here and was wondering if anyone has done it yet and what are your results ?
Be aware of this, copied from the page with the update ( see link below )
With the software upgrade, you will lose any rentals from the Blockbuster Movie application, Barnes and Noble bookmarks, and any full game versions that have been purchased.
Customers who purchased the full version of the pre-installed games will need to re-purchase following the update. This is specific to only the following pre-installed games: Ferrari GT Evolution, Millionaire 2010, and Prince of Persia. Other pre-installed games will not be affected by the software update.
Due to game developer policies performing software updates will require customers to re-purchase these specific games.

Supposedly Tmobile yanked the update. Too many glitches were being reported after installing it. Even if you downloaded it before they removed it, I'd wait for the updated update.

Entertainment bundle and Gingerbread

Interesting ... Got my entertainment bundle without issues on PC World purchased Tab (on day of release). Got games ok ... applied movie voucher ... ordered my 16 movies ... nightmare getting onto tab (site really flaky and DRM on various films failed) and awful download experience ... 12 out of 16 failed to complete the download on more than one occasion.
When I called Samsung Apps CS .. they committed to resolving above issues and also trying to get me PC DVD copy which was promised when voucher applied. They said they had not decided whether they should be giving two copies of each film with this promotion but I explained for those that have already been told at time of voucher application, they really have no choice. Let's see what happens. Curious to know what other people's experience has been like.
Anyway ... the real puzzle was ... I asked about 2.3 and 2.4 updates.
They know nothing about the latter, but I was told 2.3 was already out in the US (Grrr) and although there was no date I could be given, we should expect it soon in the UK.
Anyone from US played with it yet ?
Paul.
So far no update to 2.3 in the US that I know of.
Sent from my SCH-I800 using XDA App
When I redeemed my voucher, all the movies I've bought so far have given me two links - one for the PC and one for mobile.
As to 2.3 for the Tab - as far as I'm aware it's not available anywhere, so I think you've been misinformed.

Dave

[Q] Google I/O R800a - Can we expect official SW updates?

I will be receiving a Play from someone who received the device at the Google I/O conference, and it is confirmed that it is the R800a variant. I would assume that it's unlocked and unbranded, so I was curious if anyone who has one can share if they've received any SW updates for the phone. Will the phone receive the same updates as the other variants being offered around the world?
Also, the phone hasn't officially been offered here in the states outside of Verizon, so, has anyone with this phone been able to connect to the store to purchase games and the like (PS1 titles, etc)?
Thanks-
i have a white r800a and i was able to update soon as i open the box. also i am using tmobile service on mine

Thanks for the input. Any trouble accessing the store or the like?
I've had my white unlocked/unbranded R800a since May 9th (pre-Google I/O dev freebie) and no problems accessing the Android Market or using the Xperia Play launcher app to get new market games. The one thing not working is the search function in the PlayStation Pocket app. Crash Bandicoot is in there, but when I click search it says "This service is not available in your country/region.". I haven't even honestly used it until today to check since I primarily use emulators.
I'm on AT&T.
So far I'm on 2.3.2 but I'm not sure how many people have 2.3.3 yet. Gingerbreak does work great though

Yeah, it seems like R800As can't access the market to buy more PS1 titles, and I'm also on 2.3.2...
I use Snes9x, but what other emulators would you recommend that are free and work well?
Also (hang with me as this is my first Android device), what are the best, free, file manager, battery indicator, and RAM monitor?
Thanks!
I've got one of these too. It's Android 2.3.2 and both OTA and PC Companion say it's up to date. I can access the Market, but PSOne titles aren't on there. I tried looking at the Android Market website and found some of the games, but they all say "Europe Limited" on them. Is it possible it might be that Sony hasn't gotten around to making them available in other regions yet?
"Yeah, it seems like R800As can't access the market to buy more PS1 titles, and I'm also on 2.3.2..."
Mine can. I live in Canada but I still haven't seen an update yet. Still on 2.3.2
I have the pocket app and it has about 5 PSX titles. I picked up Medievil, good game!

Well it sounds like it works in Canada, then. I'm in the United States and clicked the search button in the PlayStation Pocket app and it told me "This service is not available in your country/region." I'm curious if the Verizon R800x version says the same thing?
It's so stupid how they are making so many versions of this phone and the FW.
I watched a Youtube review and the guy said there was to processors, one for the phone and one for the games. He also said the camera had a smile detection feature. Is this guy BS or did he have a pre release one that was different?
Well there are not that great anyway. Maybe they will give you access when there are better games on there. You’re not missing much. Cool boarders 2, MediEvil, Rally Cross, syphon Filter and wild Arms. Also Backstab HD shows up in my pocket app.
It is the only Gameloft game that does. Also most gameloft games I have purchased do not even show in my playstaion xperia app.
It seems they have bugs to work out for sure.
Sounds like BS to me. I've seen a lot of misinformation thanks to people who have no idea about what they're talking about.
I thought so too.

Well, I probably wouldn't ever actually buy a game from the market, rather, I just wanted to know if we would be treated like second class phone-users here in the states. Unless we go Apple, we always get the shaft with devices, FW updates, services, etc.
No ps1 titles here either, same message. But, uh, getting back to the original topic, what's the update path for these things?
Now that 2.3.3 is rolling out all around I figured I'd pop over to the dev section and flash myself an update. I hadn't realised that the US R800a was going to be this odd minority device without the plethora of pre-rooted images floating around like the other alphabet suffixes. Surely, giving these out to developers at a conference, they would've expected us to root these things (I sometimes forget that there's folks out there who actually get their android updates "over the air").
Anyone know how compatible these are with the canadian R800a phones (I'm presuming most of the region specific restrictions are keying off the sim card)?
For that matter, how much actual difference is there (aside from the radios) between the other letter variants?
This is a little premature on my part, but I'm starting to worry we may have dead-end devices.
Don't feel bad. The US usually gets things before us Canadians.
I was shocked to see Canada get this phone before the US.
Anyone who has an unlocked, unbranded R800a get 2.3.3 officially yet?
This is not an official update but is now officially a confirmed working method for updating to 2.3.3 with root for R800a dev units on AT&T. Furthermore, it should work in any region... for those not in the states. And, no bootloader unlocking required!
Cheers and thanks to emann56 and Willis111 (be sure to thank them):

Spread out apps...

Hello XDA,
This is a combination of an angry rant as well as a question (hence why I decided to put it in General and not Q&A). Why the hell is the application so spread out and lacking for tablets when it can run them?!
For example when I do a search on the Android Market for "Worms" (EA Games game) I have three choices only one of which works for my Infuse 4G but none work on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 that blows the Infuse out of the water (spec wise).
This is also true for Gameloft games. There is no option to download it for my tablet directly from them, but a simple google search gives me sites where I can download the Game Data and the APK and get these (and the market apps) to run perfectly on my Galaxy Tab.
This is a huge problem that I can can get the games, and having them working on my tab via sideloading and blatant pirating, but am unable to get them via the marketplace. Personally this is a fault of Android. I love how open it is, and how it allows for its users to do almost anything they want, but it is also a massive problem. I should be able to go the market and find ANY game or application that will work on my Tablet without having to pirate them due to the lack of support.
Maybe it's just me, but do you guys feel that this shouldn't be needed and is a problem of Android?
As I stated before, I do. I'm a techie so going to a website and getting this is no problem for me, but I gave the Tab as a gift to my mother, she would not be able to understand what to do and would be limited by the marketplace and upset when she can't find the application she wants.
Meh, it might just be me.
1. The apps were not designed for tablets so why should they work? Tablets and phones are two completely different devices.
2. Honeycomb 3.2 has added compatibility for most phone apps.
To add insult to injury, it's also very annoying when the market says that the application is "incompatible" with my phone/tablet yet I can sideload and it works perfeclty. A part of me is starting to feel that the Market Place should be the ONLY place you can get applications, but one can offer their own market, kind of like how Amazon and Tegra Zone do it.

1.) Except as stated, I can sideload the application and it works PERFECTLY fine with no problem.
2.) Yes because that will solve the marketplace issue?
Also, I thought they were no longer manufacturing Xoom, Galaxy Tabs, etc... or so you so nicely said in the now deleted "quad core" thread.
Yeah, it's strange. It's on the developer, in the end, to mark the app as 3.x compatible, but I'm surprised so many opt out when they could be reaching a larger audience effortlessly. (Netflix, Facebook, many games...)

No...no it hasn't. A new Xoom recently passed the FCC with only the LTE added to it, and yes the thread was deleted. But I digress.

Yes production has stopped. The LTE units are just 3G units that have already been produced a LONG time ago, all they did was apply the LTE upgrade to it which was not ready in time for the 3G units launch and why they offer a free upgrade to 3G users.

Your stupidity makes my head hurt. I did research and no there has not been any stopped production, it was only rumor. Please note:
http://www.phonedog.com/2011/03/22/xoom-production-ending-soon/
http://www.talkandroid.com/34179-will-motorola-stop-production-of-the-xoom-not-likely/
and
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-20046128-17.html , where it states: However, Motorola Mobility told CNET today that DigiTimes' claims are "not accurate" and that the company plans to continue producing the Xoom beyond June.
These all state it as a rumor that was debunked. Please provide evidence that Motorola has CONCRETELY stopped production, since everyone was up in arms about the new model for Verizon which turned out to just be the Xoom with 4G for a September launch.
But anyways, back to the topic on hand. Do you have anything useful to add or you going to continue to speak out of your ass and offer nothing to the topic of app spreading and poor consolidation of apps that say they don't work but truly do, or are you done since Netflix is a great example of one and completely debunked your initial approach?

Look at it from the developers point of view. The app isn't tablet ready. However, if they make available for tablets in the app store then the implication is that it is tablet ready. If the implication is that it's tablet ready then their customers who load it on a tablet will expect support when they load it on a tablet.
Even worse, look at the comments on apps that aren't tablet ready. They nag, whine and rip the author because it doesn't look or work right on a tablet.
If I were a developer and my app wasn't tablet ready I'd do everything possible to keep it off the app store for tablets.
If a customer side loads it then that's fine, they must support themselves.
Here's another reson it might not be available on the Google app store. There are multiple, competing app stores. Thank goodness for choice. Maybe an author has decided to give one of the other stores an exclusive for a period of time.
See? Many reasons why it's not there.
TabGuy,
I'm going to play Devil's Advocate.
Go download the Cartoon Netwoork Application. On the phone it is AMAZING, it allows for full episodes and clips and games, so it is a nice time passer when I want to relive my younger days or let my nephew play with it. You cn download it for the Galaxy Tab, but it is neigh unusable for the Tab due to only being in the small rectangle.
So this is contrary to your point and on for mine. This is an application that does not work for the Tab, for the most part, but is available via the marketplace, while applications that are typically are not optimized for the tab or stated as working do in fact for it and are NOT available on the marketplace.
While this may be the except and not the rule it is annoying and unacceptable that Google/Developers do this and questions the future of the Android Operatin System with regards to the experience as the end user...especially against other Tablet OSes that have a centralized place to get applications that do work for the device.
Rydsmith,
I hear ya. Many developers don't have customer service skills and simply don't care how their app looks on a tablet and how many bad comments they'll get. Others try to protect their brand and want their customers have the best possible experience.

On GameLoft Games DO NOT BUY In-app purchases heres is why

Just wanted to share what has happend to me. I purchased about $15 worth of credits to use with Modern Combat 3. Things went good for a week or so and then my MC3 game just kept telling me my phone was not compatible and wouldnt load the game. So after clearing cache and trying a few other things I figured the best thing to do would be to uninstall and reinstall the game to see if that fixed the problem. Only to discover that after I had done everything found all my in app purchased credits gone even though I made a backup of my data, save files, etc and restoerd them back to the game.
I emailed GL and this was the reply:
Gameloft Customer Care to me

Hello!
Thank you for your letter to Gameloft Customer Care.
I'm very sorry for what has happened.
Could you please provide me with more detail about your issue?
Unfortunately, when you redownload the game, the in-app purchases are not saved. As we do not have a technical ability to return the in-app purchases, points or weapons, I can only offer you 3 free games to compensate you the charges.
In order to see the games compatible with your phone model, please, type Gameloft in the search engine of your wap browser and you'll be re-directed to the page with the games available for your device.
Please, write me back the names of the games you'd like to get, the exact model of your phone and your complete mobgile phone number with the country code.
Waiting for your reply.
Best regards,
So granted they are offering me $15 in 3 free games, truth is I have all the games I want from them, but still they are trying to compensate me. But again I would rather have my credits, guns, etc back. Sorry for the long post but wanted to share this with others so they do not get into the same situation as me.
Gameloft have some really good games, Although they need to start using Android market, Until they do or some how save your purchases I'm not going to buy that much gameloft games.
But Gameloft said their stats, weapons and cash is saved via their servers (through Gameloft LIVE).
You seem to have gotten lucky, my experiences with their support didn't even go that well.

Gameloft LIVE sucks.
I have 11 Gameloft games, all of which show up in there as that I own them, but only ONE (MC2) actually tracked my stats. The others its like I never played them.

You're right. However, you would get your money back if you contacted Apple or BB or Google play or Amazon. I purchased Asphalt7 for my blackberry z10. After I reinstalled it, my in-game credits disappeared. I emailed Gameloft but they didn't answer my email. I contacted BB customer service and explained my case. BB gave me a full refund including in-game credits.
I purchased wild blood for HTC One. Of course, I paid for in-game credits too. Google gave me a full refund after emailing them and telling them that I didn't like to submit any documentation for their verification.
Didn't Google Play changed the Policy about inapp purchases?...
I think any inapp purchase will be handled by Google instead of the Dev.

Gameloft makes me want to throw my tablet at a wall

So I posted about Asphalt 6 and DH2 not working, Gameloft nicely sent me Hero of Sparta and Backstab for my trouble.
Backstab installs and then when you try to download the data on first run it says it has a problem and can't download. It loops through that till you give up.
Hero of Sparta straight out won't install, not their fault, its because of the pre-installed demo that you can't delete because its a system app!
Of course HoS could be fixed if I could root my A500, but I've been having problems running AfterOTA to root it because it won't flash a kernel for some reason, nvflash keeps giving an error 0x120002 saying the partition table is invalid.
Is this just Gameloft sucking or is there maybe something wrong with my Tablet? I bought it refurbished from Acer.
Gameloft is sucking, however you can root it by installing a rom with superuser pre-installed. There are plenty of tutorials here ranging from Honeycomb to ICS. Once installed you are rooted and can uninstall the pointless apps. There is an application out there that downloads Gameloft data for you if you have trouble doing so on your device, i forget what it's called, but i suggest looking that up.

I managed to get root, unfortunately my A500 is having problems with flashing kernels etc. It just wont do it may need to downgrade and upgrade again. I got Hero of Sparta working at least.
EDIT: And the version of Hero of Sparta the sent me is the same as the damn demo version that came with the tablet!!!! WTF
EDIT2: Tried an external program to download the Backstab HD game data, it points to a file on the server that does not exist! I can only download game data for Samsung phones, the Sony/acer/motorola/etc data is not there.
Emailed them back they sent me the same thing and Gangstar Rio. So so far I have gotten 5 games out of this mess, but only 1 works and its a demo!
That's why Im not buy gamelot stuff I have them almost all and working well in my a500 from a site that have them cooked.
Yeah, that's why Gameloft sucks. I have bought two games from them right when i got my tablet, through that app that was on our tablet. Two months later ran into problems, cs wouldn't help because they could not track where i bought it from.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I bought HoS some time ago and it used to work perfectly fine, but after about a year, the game started to give me only two options upon boot: upgrade or exit. Upgrade always failed, so the game would only force me to exit.
Long story short (seriously) , I contacted Gameloft and they told me that HoS is not compatible with the A500. I argued with them about this because 1) the demo comes on the tablet, 2) I bought the game because their website SAID it was compatible at the time, 3) the game used to work, and 4) I contacted Gameloft in the past because I lost the game's download link, and they sent me a link to the A500 version of the game (it even says Acer A500 in the filename) without any problems.
Despite all of this, they continued to tell me that the game is NOT compatible and that I need to check compatibility before I make a purchase (as if I were stupid!).
So, what actually happened is that Gameloft decided that our tablet is no longer good enough for HoS. In addition, when a game update comes out, the game is programmed to FORCE you to update or else you cannot play the game at all. So somewhere along the line, an update was released that made the game incompatible with the A500.
I highly discourage anyone from buying games from Gameloft. A game may work now, but in the future, they may drop your device and you just end up buying something you cannot use. The company is complete $h!+ in not only the quality of their games, but also in their completely unethical business practices. They are more interested in getting your money and less interested in whether or not you are able to continue to use their products in the future.
