[HELP] Need some advise on where to go with my HD2 - HD2 General

Hi guys,
Right Ive had my HD2 since the start of the year and due to time/commitments ive not really done a lot with it, now quite simply I have a few applications which I use a fair bit, namely CoPilot ... anyhow Ive seen there is an update on the HTC website to ROM 1.72.206.3 and was looking at starting a fresh with this ROM.
Now before I go ahead and do this, is there a better ROM/Radio combo? my current specs are ...
OS - 5.2.21864 (21864.5.0.81)
Manila - 2.5.19202525.0
ROM - 1.43.206.4 (70315) WWE
ROMD - 11/06/2009
Radio - 2.04.50.22_2
Protocol - 15.26.50.07U
Currently on a contract with O2 UK ... so really what Im after, if this was your phone what steps would you do? e.g. ROM, Radio and any must do enhancements/installs
Cheers
Mike

Hi Mike,
I have an O2 phone and it also came with 1.43 ROM. I tried the latest 1.72 ROM, it was a bit better but I think half of this is the imagination/expectation that is should be, rather than actually being so (though there are two or three 'genuine' fixes there too).
I have been mostly recommending this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612580
It made such a big difference I stopped looking at radio versions and registry tweaks. The S2U2 lock app is quite useful though, once you've customised its settings as desired.
I installed it using SSPL method BTW.

Have you got any issues that make you think "I'm going to bin this thing if it happens again"?
I've not bothered with the upgrade as if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Before anyone *****es, the only issue that is apparent on my device, the SMS lagging, isn't exactly an issue to me. I see it more as a reminder to clear the crap out of the inbox!

Which ROM?

I'm using my Uni on O2 but I still have the Orange ROM on it, because I had bought it off them. I've already flashed it to the 1.18 radio, and, since I'm getting a bit sick of the Orange splash screen, I thought I'd flash it to a more recent version of the ROM as well. Which is a good one in terms of speed, stability and battery life?
Try this both
Everyone likes something different. I have in the last 3 weeks every current ROM tried here.
My favorites are in English Tomal's Black Edition V8.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408881
... and ...
UNI G3 OS ROM 5.2.20270 (Build 20270.1.3.1) by minhanhtran (PDAVIET.COM)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=412830
Tomal's looks very beautiful and has many programs in it.
I prefer clean as possible ROM, like that of Minhanhtran.
There you can install all programs individually.
Both run very stable and reliable. No problems with the battery.
Just try both. It is very interesting to find out the differences themselves.
If you have problems with the radio 1.18, then downgrade to 1.15
Sorry for my English

According to my experience I would recommend Tomal´s v7.6 with radio 1.15 or 1.08
Hope this helps
Good luck
Are all these ROMs for G3 or G4 devices? I think mine is G3 (the bootloader screen displays
Serial
v.1.00

so I assume that means it's G3.)
Recommendation Tomals v7.7 With Radio 1.15
My recommendation would be "Tomals v7.7" with radio 1.15. I had tried v8.0 and was very disappointed with it so I went back to v7.7. The v8.0 bluetooth not working properly, no Infrared and 1 or 2 other things which I cannot remember off hand. Once Tomal fixes v8.0 then v8.0 will be better than v7.7.
Try the Matrix WM5 Ultimate Final, everything works, even video call.
You may also want to try rDosti releases. It has lots of free memory

Interesting, thanks for the heads up!!
no problem now i face an issue
it seems the latest europr rom is still 1.14
the only 1.19 is the orange uk shipped which was what i had
two reason i want to not flash this
1. htc's 2nd splashscreen is a lot better looking that the orange uk one
2, orange remove goole maps and then advertise there own orange maps which is a payable subription thing
thanks for the info mate,
I've waiting on orange replacing mine today (they've got 35minutes left to meeting the deadline for 1PM!)
Doesnt bother me much though - standard rom was rubbish compared to Duttys stuff
can you tell me where bout you are in uk and then when you get it what rom its got?
just got mine - its got the 1.09.25.14 radio and 1.14 ROM same as what I got back in November when I originally bought it
is that a HTC rom when you boot it is the animated splash screen the orange swishes or the animated HTC logo
are you gonna reflash
im thinking i want a later version but i can only find the 1.19 Orange UK rom
is the a HTC 1.19

If you don't like the orange splashscreen, copy it and then put it into your new ROM once flashed
Duttys V2.1 ROM has google maps preinstalled and if a ROM doesn't you can always install it yourself.
I wouldn't let those 2 minor reasons be the reason why you don't flash to a superior ROM
no its not those im just not a fan of branded roms
especially has htc releases roms 6 months faster then the vener versions

hell no!!!!! I know what you mean about that stupid orange flash thingy!
My original one I bought back in December had the 1.14 ROM on it but none of this crap! Original one came with google maps installed, this one doesn't. This new one also has some stupid PV Player on it.
Just FYI - This new one has the following stuff:
ROM 1.19.61.1 WWE (previous rom was earlier)
Radio 1.09.25.14 (same as previous radio)
ROM Date 11/25/08 (obviously newer ROM date)
I'm sure the ROM I had before was early november so this is a new ROM, Loads of people have discussed it on this forum before jayjay so don't worry Basically the older ROM isn't Orange customised - The new ROM is - I aint worried though cus I'm gunna flash it when I get home - muhahahah.
Dutty's ROM's for the win for sure.
Been using Dutty's ROM's from 1.7 onwards - If you want a 100% performance and stability ROM go for Dutty's 1.7. If your after the newer Manilla (like I am) go for Duttys 2.1 (2.2 due out very soon!)
hope this helps mate.
it does also i basically wont use touchflo, i like it but itd only be used for showing
are you saying that the duttys 1.7 is the last touchflo based stable rom any after that is manilla 2
also wasnt there a time limit
i also was asking about dutty 2.1 being incomptible
so its either duttys 2.1 or orange 1.19
what d u reckon
its a shame there is nonew 1.19 HTC (if there is i cant find it)
Depends what you want.
I've stuck with the stock ROM (for now!) simply because I must have near 100% stability and its fast enough.
No disrespect to the chefs as they do sterling work but they are taking stuff from other phone ROMs and they are not designed for the blackstone.
So yes they are MUCH faster but inevitably a few bugs creep in - it then becomes a matter of seeing which bugs you can live with... and which you can't.

Duttys 1.9 had the time limit on it. I'd go with 2.1

Strangely, it's only downloadable from the Htcpedia and I couldn't find it on the HTC WEB site itself. Htcpedia doesn't provide any explanations, so I'd wait with this installation.
It's strange that it doesn't appear on HTC's site.
The update from HTC issued 25/01/2010 is called:
RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship.exe
This update is called:
RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_CRC_Signed_15.32.50.07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship.exe
Looking at the numbers it's just this that's changed
2.06.51.07 > 2.07.51.22_2
Is this not the radio version?
seems to be a bit too large for just a radio update?!

It's the full ROM, but the only difference seems to be the radio version.
mh maybe the manila is updated ?
It is just the same full ROM with newer RADIO.
it cant be that 'official' as it does not appear on the HTC website. but i'm very intrigued to say the least.

I am not too keen on flashing the full Rom and losing all my data for a new radio, might just flash a radio from the SD card, unless there is a bigger update like the manilla or something.

same problem here
I have flashed this ROM to see exactly what is and isn't changed.
The only 2 things that have changed are:
Radio version: 2.07.51.22_2
Protocol version: 15.32.50.07U
Everything else (OS, Manila, ROM, Date) are exactly the same versions as in the update released in January by HTC.

So, is this radio a better one?
I've downloaded this update also and noticed a strange thing: the RUU_signed.nbh file from the package was created on the Feb 11th, 2010.
That means that HTC since that time hasn't officially published it.
Maybe it is some kind of beta/test version.
I'm not sure if the radio is any better, I'll try phoning my girlfriend tomorrow and let you know!
we will have to wait for a long time (Europe) to get a new manila version.
a friend got his new HD2 last week, it was shipped with a new Rom version
2.02.531.MASD(s) GER
but still with the old manila version...
Don´t even know if HTC will ever give this update to everyone...
The radio seems about the same for calls, the volume is still very high even on lowest setting. Also the problem with female voices still seems to happen sometimes.
That radio has been available for a long time in the radio ROM section. I have been using it for about 3 weeks and it has cut down some of the crackling that I have been experiencing. The battery life is good too.

I am not sure it has been available, unless I am missing something...
There are two radios with 2.07 versions, but, I think they are different from one that is coming with this ROM.
Here are the 2.07 radios from the ROM section:
Leo_RADIO_15.33.50.07U_2.07.50.27 **
Leo_RADIO_15.31.50.07U_2.07.51.05 **
And here we have a different one:
Radio: 2.07.51.22_2
Protocol: 15.32.50.07U
This could be unrelated, but my Push Email doesn't seem to be working correctly with this update.
Is anyone else having issues?

Difference between HD2 Manilla 1.4X and 1.6X

Hi Guys,
I'm novice at this so ignore my ignorance.
I have 1.48 WWE installed on my HD2 and I was considering it flashing with the new release ... I think 1.66.
But I really dont want to go through the hassle of installing all the programs back onto my device unless it's worth it.
Is there anybody who can tell me what's new in the 1.66 version and is it worth upgrading .... I'm not a heavy application bur rather a simple user and I hate troubleshooting
So if you think its not worthwhile upgrading can you please let me know.
Any feedback will be welcome.
Cheers
Wolfy
Might help if you let people know what region you are...
Region - UK and the version used is the WWE one.
Cheers
If you´re fine with what you have, no need to flash.
The 1.66 ROM series bring all the hotfixes and updates which you might have installed already - in case you have to perform a hard reset, you would not have to install all those. There are other differences such as an updated Radio ROM version, but most of them are "under the hood" and not visible.
Many people here flash custom ROMs to get some more free memory space, or maybe another Manila/Sense functionality, but you will not find this kind of "big" difference between the official 1.43/48 and 1.66 ROMs anyway.
But, again, if you are fine with the stock ROM, there is no need to flash.
I have 2 HD2 phones now.
One is 1.48 ROM and other is 1.66 ROM
THe only difference I see is 1.66 show more memory. It says 448 Mb while 1.48 show less.
Not sure why...
Oh, I after hard reset memory is same on both phones. Now, I don't know the difference anymore

[Q] Android on stock HTC ROM?

Hey,
Just wondering if anyones tried running Android on a stock HTC ROM?
I'm thinking of re-flashing the original Windows Mobile ROM and seeing if it will be able to launch Android from SD Card?
I've heard someone say it has been known to work?

I will be tonight when I finish work
Thought i'd ask ahead just in case anything I need to know. I want to have the stock ROM just because everything works on it and battery life is pretty good, but then can have Android to play around on
I am just using Android on my Stock Rom for the last 20 days.
Its working fine but the problem is instability in the Working of Android.
I have tried all the versions with different Radio versions.
Among them the best suit is Shubcraft1.4d the latest one and Radio version 2.11.50.20
I've been running Android on my "original" stock TMOUS ROM for about 3 full weeks now. At first, I ran Android with the stock 2.08 radio for about 4 days. For some reason, I rebooted my device and I was never able to get Android to run successfully again. I kept getting WSOD during boot-up and BSOD when trying to wake from sleep.
Finally, I flashed my radio to 2.12, and I've had absolutely no problems. I've seen many complaining that the stock TMOUS ROM causes problems, but I think it has more to do with radio, zImage, and build combinations than WinMo ROMs.
Good luck
just loaded android on stock 1.48.707.2 rom but with updated radio 2.12 version seemed to work o.k but froze a bit here and there seemed useable apart from the crashes

hmm, think tonight i will reflash to stock rom from HTC and then try radio 2.10 as per person further up, try it with various builds then maybe try radio 2.12... i will post my results within the next several hours
I think there are also differences between TMOUS and our European ROMS. Especially because of the Radios. I thought about Flashing back to complete Stock ROM SPL, etc. That way I could never get any problems with the warranty etc. I will try it when I find time.
I tried on the stock ROM and sadly everytime Android would go through the initial boot it would just display some text in the top left, then stop, then the text would slowly "fade" from bottom right to top left and the backlight of the screen remains lit but the phone hangs with nothing displayed
I've now put on the phone:
Windows Mobile ROM: Elegancia E-CHT ROM
Android Version: Mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense
Radio: 2.11.50.20
I've put a shortcut to CLRAD.exe and HaRAT.exe on my home screen on WinMo. Now I can use Windows Mobile for stability and battery life and working Wi-Fi Tethering etc, but can boot into android for games, apps, smooth interface and most of all, bragging rights(can now ram it into my friends with iPhones faces)
While i'm here now i've changed my set up completely, i'll explain what its like
With this set up, i've found the phone is some wait smoother, the screen still freezes but not for as long as before.
I've found sometimes the interface can sometimes be slightly sluggish but not enough to be a problem
I've called speaking clock and the voice was very clear
Overall very happy and now have the best of Android and the best of Windows Mobile
On my normal WinMo Rom I've used for quite some time now (some weeks before trying the first Android build) everything runs without freezes etc. So far 1 SOD and 2 freezes without a visible reason. And I'm running mainly Android for 5 weeks now. So it seems I was quite lucky to have an Android compatible ROM without having to flash some stripped down ROM. The only thing I'm missing in my ROM are fast boot times but those can be improved by disabling Sense.
I use stock ROM 1.66 ELL but Radio changed to 2.12 (with stock radio didn't work)
I have tried several Android builds and all works as supposed to work.
I have been testing all the Android versions using stock 1.66 WWE (just updated radio) with no problems at all. I have never used a custom WM ROM on my HD2, and have found Android to be on a par with what others have reported. Now running Mattc + Froyo w/Sense 1.6b with no problems so far.
I use stock ROM SVE 1.66 but radio changed to 2.10. I have been testing several builds and they all have worked ok.
The best build for me has been: darkstone HD2Froyo V2.1.
well, i have 1.48 wwe stock rom, never had any issues with any of the android builds...only changed my radio to 2.08.50..
i suggest darkstone's builds..either the hd2froyo or the froyostone series......no issues whatsoever
Yeah maybe it was my combination of radio/build. I'm now using the Mattc Leo Froyo build and the Elegencia ROM and isn't too different from the stock ROM and has most of the apps still installed
No problems running on stock tmoble 1.72 rom just had to update radio to one ending in 50
I’m a newbie at this so apologies if I confuse rather than help.
I bought my HD2 off eBay so don’t know if it’s been flashed or not. I didn’t attempt to flash or change the radio version myself just in case I brick it!! I scared like that
I am currently using ShubCRAFT 1.4d_1GB (hard reset and switched Sense off in WM for quicker boot) and it works perfectly, good battery life and fast .
WM Software details:
OS version: 5.2.2189
Manila version: 2.5.20113626.0
ROM version: Miri HD2 ROM – V4.0 WWE
Radio version: 2.07.50.27_2
To answer your question, and given the above are the standard versions, yes you can run android on ur standard HTC HD2 thanks to the awesome developers.
I am using a windows mobile stock ROM (1.66.405.2) with radio version 2.12.50.02 and mattc leo + froyo w/sense 1.6b Kernel: michyprima 2.6.32.9 #70. I have had no problems with wifi, 3g, sound, or calls. Everything works fine and pretty good battery life and quite stable.

I bucked up the courage to install a new radio after I submitted my post, and in the process realised that it had HardSPL on it already! which one of you sold me your 'touched' HD2!?
So I updated my radio version to 2.12.50.02_2 - yes I'm proud
