Just wondering if anyone has his kernel in a flashable zip? I've tried to extract it and make my own, but having problems.. Thanks.

i was told to just use the boot.img from fresh toast. insert it into the rom of ur choice and flash it. it worked for me.
you can't just insert it into the zip though right? Do you know of a tutorial that will tell me how to do it?

This is a signed zip of the boot.img. Kernel 2.6.29-GoDmOdE-OC-BFS [email protected] #89 Should work. I am using this one in a custom cooked rom, signed the update myself.

you didnt include an update script you just signed it.
here is an update.zip with # 89 kernel. idk what it will and wont work on.
im not responsible for loss of rom. nandroid, apply, see what happens. i recommend using set cpu and min-245 max-729
this allows for the best stepping.
tried it on damage 2.07.2.3333 with jit enabled... wouldnt go past the htc screen
same on Icerom and Sushi. Sticks at the HTC screen

Will you be posting it here?
Its not going to work when flashing to a damage control rom or one thats based off of damage like most roms here are. Also it will not work on darchdroid.
The only rom the kernel will work on is fresh or fresh toast or one based on it.
You have to pull the boot.img apart and put ramdisk from your current rom and the kernel from fresh toast. And then add the necessary lines to init.rc and etc so you can have bfs and compache and all working. You might even need the config file from your current rom to put into the kernel, which you would have to compile your own kernel using toasts github source.
Who wants to be a quick test dummy thats running damage control.
Here is quick boot.img i put together so theres a chance it might not work, its a flashable update.zip so you can do it in recovery. I used avalauches .zip he posted earlier just changed the boot.img. Make a nandroid before flashing.
This is fresh toast kernel

let me know if there is anything specific I can tell you.
I would know what if anything to look for in a logcat, I'm just gonna dl setcpu and check it out
*edit-
SetCpu is showing 768MHz max, I'm watching it fluctuate between 19 and 768...
No fc's, normal boot time
So far so good

Did you actually witness radio flashing while flashing OTA? Try rebooting one more time to see. If there's no mention of .11 version in system/about, it didn't flash correctly.
P.S. can you make nandroid dump of your newly flashed device? (Just the system.img ofc)
Just FYI:
DO NOT FLASH THIS OR IT WILL WIPE YOUR ROOT & YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO GET IT BACK!
Unless for some crazy reason you don't want root...

Just to clarify - I'm not that fussed about root at the moment but I guess I might want to have it at some stage. If I take this update I won't be able to roll back to a stock rom or do some sort of hard reset in order to be able to start from fresh in order to get root?

It will overwrite your recovery image, and does have have root, or the exploit used in the past to get root.
So, unless you like the possibility of never being able to load a custom ROM, DON'T INSTALL THIS... Wait for a repack.
Does this need http://liveimage.htc.com/OTA_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.93-2.73.405.5_release7sd65upagwzkrpms.zip first?
Note, I'm not planning on flashing it.
EDIT: Ok it seems this is more complicated than I initially thought. I was going to try my first attempt at rooting a stock ROM today but this appears to just be a patch of some sort?

There could be a possible chance that you do because I just tryed to flash with that file and it came up
Code:
E:Failure at line 2:
assert file_contains("System:build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint=htc_wwe/htc_hero/hero/hero:1.5/CUPCAKE/154788:user/release-keys") == "true" || file_contains("SYSTEM.build.prop", "ro_build.fingerprint=htc_wwe/htc_hero/hero/hero:2.1-upd

and so when i check line 2 of update-script

Yeah, it should be possible.
Htc release ota updates as delta upgrades, containing only differences between files. Custom ROMs don't use the identical same files, so we need to patch the old ones with these new files.
And our custom recovery images don't accept htc ota keys, since you could get locked out of rooting if this happened.
I can try and look later on at this...
Ok,so it seems problems with the "patch files" too,not possible
via recovery menu,right?
Hope you can do it!
Hmm it seems that this update only add's a gsensor config, I dont know if they fixed the problem with streams and T-Mobile Netherlands (I guess not).
Seems to be a lot of changes (a lot of files to patch) just to add G-sensor config. Probably a bugfix release too...

Hmm well because I have a different bootloader and a stock T-Mobile rom it just don't show up. It's gonna take a while before I get my hands on this one
so is there a full list of what this update has done?
i have a custom rom and managed to install this with no problems.
i have seen a similar update on the desire and it seems to fix the message notifications (messages will display 1, even though all messages are read.)
Hi All,
Loking at the files contained within this update, can anyone confirm if this will have an effect on the Bluetooth capabilities of the phone. There are a few threads out there with people like myself who had their bluetooth functionality reduced with their car kits. The pairing would work, but the connection failed. The connection worked fine in 1.5, and is working again in custom 2.2 roms (I'm running Fusion),
Cheers

hmm, update.zip contains boot.img and recovery.img, as well as many updates for framework, many apps, system etc...
so it can contain any new protection method to disable root possibility and/or changing roms to custom.
anybody with genuine 2.1 installed this? anything happened?
I just checked the boot.img from the original update to Android 2.1 and from this one, and they're exactly the same, bit by bit, so there isn't any changes in the kernel.
appied update and then rooted all worked fine
i have installed this update after i got my repaired hero back from htc yesterday. i did root my phone after this update and it seems to be fine.
the only thing i cant do is downgrade to 1.5 using a goldcard. it say something about im using the incorrect id.
But i dont know if that was the update that did that or htc did it when they had my phone

Sounds normal. What rooting method did you use? (Shamelessly trying to find out if my port of the Droid eris one still works after this update)
If you root and flash custom recovery, you can flash another hboot, thus allowing a 1.5 RUU to work with gold card.
But that is a risky process, and there's no need in my opinion to use it.

What do you mean? I'll probably post the raw files from this update, and then anyone who wants them can push them into a ROM.
Looking at the zip right now and it's definatly a bunch of updates for the system!
This is based off of the new Froyo I897UCJJ4 leak.
Pre-Cog-Kernel - I am building a multi stage kernel so I can include all of the goodies like Atinm and Supercurio have done. (not very fun, multistage is lame!)
Changelog:
ClockWordMod Recovery (thanks to Atinm)
---Fixed /tmp not mounting
---Replace recovery binary with one from the market (Atinm added in some menu options that I deleted binaries for to save space)
Custom boot animations (/system/media/bootanimation.zip)
---Properly moved up the int list so there is no delay
User Scripts (/system/etc/init.d)
Removed FM Radio module and int code (it's useless)
This allows for nandroid backups and flashing anything you want!
Known Issues:
If you do a factory reset you will have to flash the stock recovery so it can set things up again.

This is the Gingerbread keyboard apk and appropriate libs to make it work on any Froyo rom on Eris (probably).

On a stock ROM with s=on it's impossible
Hello Neidlinger!
I am showing S-Off. I guess, maybe I am describing it wrong. It is the Sense UI, Stock?

Since your phone is s=off it is doable, because you can change the /system folder and have stuff stick. With that being said i know there is a thread in the development section that has a lot of gauge options on it. If i can find it i'll post a link to it for you.

Thanks for the work on the link Neid. I am actually using one of those now.
I was specifically looking for one like the link above displays. Apparently I haven't been able to find that exactly.
I know some of the custom roms have it available, but was curious if there was a file or something that could be pulled from them to make it available for the sense, stock ui
I know one of you stud guru's can do this in like 5 minutes!

Cook it up here if you want. There is an icon like it in the battery mods section.
damn that's tough, I can't find the needed files. Thank you for the link however
how did you theme your current setup? If you used a flashable zip, you use that. If you used the t-mobile theme engine you use the apk. It shouldn't be tough. With that kitchen you just need something to start with, so as long as you aren't running straight stock no theme, it's a quick file dump and let the kitchen cook it up.
I am using the recovery back to stock, which was titled, 1980-01-06.00.08.33. I got it from these forums for a stock recovery with sense.
I am still rooted, and S-off, verified through 3 sources, and i can add mods.
I tried looking in that file last night, but didn't see anything.
You are saying just throw that entire zip in kitchen? I will try that tonight (Can't remember if the zip was over the 9mb limit kitchen had, which I think it was)
no that won't work. You need an apk to get it going, since you're using stock you'll have to find one of the t-mobile theme engine apks already included with stock. I think androidian is one of them. I'm a little surprised, for someone who wants a really customized look you shouldn't be using an odexed ROM. Something like RoyalGlacier would be so much better. It's MySense, stripped, deodexed, zipaligned, and has a lot of tweaks that are great. Much better kernel included as well. Take a look at the thread in the development section. The touchpanel update included in faux's kernel is worth it by itself, it's like getting a whole new phone.
Ahh Darinmc, thank you for taking the time to reply.
I actually have RG ready to flash on my SD, just hadn't yet. I know RC2 was giving me a force close loop, so I undid back to stock until they had more time to work bugs.
I think I will give RG a shot.
Again, thank you very much for replying, think I will try Androidian and then RG
The best thing about TR ROMs is their support. Follow their instructions for installation to the letter. After that, if anything, and I mean anything, goes wrong, post a detailed report in the thread and they will bend over backwards to get you up and running. Having problems with RC2 probably had something to do with a bad install (this is not pointing the finger, simply pointing out that when dealing with custom ROMs many things can happen during an install), the TR instructions are more detailed and generally create better results. Happy flashing!
