YES!~ always wanted to answer this. first of all, don't go with GSMArena review on it. yes do believe the downsides.
first as you asked youtube and surfing. its really good in it except some flash contents being supported. otherwise its good.
there are many problems with it. like not supporting alot of mSD cards, lagy, this and that. poor EXTREMELY poor video. mostly LAG makes this phone=crap. after day to day use you will see that. if you keep your sms, then after some time it will disturb you alot. hang and all.

WTF !?!?
FFS !
Touch2 rulez Youtube with it's own WinMo program , which has a super nice interface and plays the videos SUPER FAST and nice !
i do like the surfing on the touch2 with Opera , it supports almost every pluggin on the page , i've never had problems till now , everything works fine , smooth and fast ! dunno what Gothik is talking about but for this type of device and this range of money it's PERFECT !!!
p.s. i got 95 messages in my inbox and no hanging , just some slow reaction with Album , but that's becouse i got more than 700 pictures in it

my 1st smart phone, everything good but the GPS connection is slow.
if you use some mp4 converter program for videos before put into the phone, then the videos are great
and I love playing Bejeweled on the road.
attach the game for you guys

Well I have just moved from a Treo 650 to HTC Touch 2 - so kinda big different step for me - and when I judged this phone I based it on mostly what I need, and what I want.
So far - with the great stuff I have found on the web - and also the SPB (okay more cost but... hey) I have been very impressed with the overall behaviour of the phone, the usablity and also the speed - it is pretty quick (if you don't have 10000000000 tody plugins all loaded at the same time - managed to run out of memory - once -but hey gotta play before serious work!)
The only things I don't like
1) TouchFLO - sorry but that is one of the worse interfaces I have ever used - even worse in my opinion to the Palm 650 default interface! But, I come from usablity, and also from quick access to my main programs. Which is why I forked out for SPB Mobile Shell - It offers a lot of functionality over the base Front.
2) SMS - I really don't like the SMS application with Windows Mobile 6.5 - I'm kinda use to the default Palm 650 SMS - but the thing about it was it was very easy to use, and very quick. I find the SMS in Windows Mobile to be sluggish, and also doesn't even offer things like Graphics Smiley Faces. On top of that I have tested out programs like SMS-Chat, which pretty much does what I want it to do - but can't get the override to SMS-Chat to work correctly - so the default keeps popping its ugly head!
3) Cases - In New Zealand the Touch 2 is new - only been around for about 1.5mths - but getting cases is really impossible - and this is something that has really worried me because I use it for work - and I know oneday soon I'm going to drop it! But - this I will solve - even if I have to use a condom
What I do like about it is cost - it did everything I needed and more - and also has the capablity to grow a lot based on the community and the software vendors.
Overall I have suggested to a few of my friends to buy one - and three of them have brought it - and their response was pretty high also. Now, it hasn't got a huge screen - and I feel a little jealous at the larger screens of my IPhone and TOuch2 Pro friends - but - this is light, easy to store in pocket, and also fits in your hand well - so - over all - I find this a nice phone. Not the best - but certainly not the worse I played with before buying.

It's good...
I have been coming to love it more as time goes by.
It's adaptive to my personal use, small and neat.I now often use it as a Hi-Fi Radio.
It has given me much fun...
Hope you like it!

I can't help myself agreeing with you...(in a balcanic way of speaking..)
Anyway, gothic has his own strongopinionsnomatterwhatrealitymeans...
Cheers!

Being honest, I was having real problems with it before I changed my ROM. After I changed to the WWE Europe ROM and got the Compact QWERTY keyboard with it, typing became much easier (the Asian ROM doesn't have it) and phone performance became a lot faster.
If you're going to get it, make sure you get DiamondTweak, AdvancedConfig and SKTools Lite. They have fixed every issue and done every tweak I wanted to do
Cheers

how many of you use this as your "everyday" phone?

I was thinking about getting one but was wondering how it is to use as a everyday phone? is it just to damn big? manageable? will it fit in a pocket? any pocket? I have a herald now and my my main reason for thinking about the switch is texting and wifi surfing (vga screen has gotta make it a joy to use). anyone have any build quality issues? im uber anal about build quality, especially at this price!! any other comments are welcome. Oh I did read some reviews and went through on here but I wanna know what the real life owners think after owning it for a while.
i got it , and i say it's almost accommodate %95 for everyday use , it has all features that you need , you never get stuck in any place you go , i mean when i'm in internet cafe i use wifi ,
when i want to listen to a song the original headset make it very coool and it rocks really they have a hi quality ,
when i want to take a photo in with my friend in college it shot nice though it have a 1.3 MP it can expand to 2 MP ( in camera options ) and the color and details is very good
and when playing a video clip it have a very very nice quality ( with VGA screen and 520 MHz) it's very powerful ,and it can play %90 of known multimedia files ( by using Core Player )
and it got very powerful application to be be used for every day task
and and and and............. , i recommended it by %95
very stylish device
i use it as everyday phone, organiser and modem for laptop. very pleased. Phone is a bit clunky, using stylus to dial can be a fiddle, but no problems otherwise. Works great with bluetooth headset and voice dial
regards,
Brian.
Use it as an every day phone. VGA mode, VJBigPhone and use my finger for dialling - no problems at all. Only thing is that I cant have anything else in the pocket I put it in, but thats no big deal.
sigh, i really wish i could hold one before I buy it. it sounds like im gonna need my own private shirpa to lug it around for me!!
honestly there are only 2 reasons im thinking about getting one..
1) surfing the net. Im hopeing that between the bigger screen and the vga resolution that it will format webpages better than the qvga "smaller" screen of my herald (i hate scrolling)
2) .......well maybe there is only the one reason, lol! i feel like a flake. im still pretty new to the windows seen as i have been a symbian guy for a loooong time.
I suppose honestly I use it as a phone first and everything else second. how would y'all rate the build quality on this thing?
VJBigPhone???
I use my Vodafone V1640 as an every day phone. It is quite chunky in the pocket, but I'm quite used to it now. I love the fact that it can be sat on the desk like a little laptop, so I can browse websites without having to actually hold the device during lectures at uni.
I'd love to have a thinner phone though.
Build quality: quite good, the hinge is still in very good form after about half a year's usage.

Never had a problem with build quality, in fact had less problems with this phone than I did with the Alpine.

Sweet, thanks man!!
Another question, are there any draw backs to the vga hack? will it still run qvga apps?
Some - not all. I use VGA all the time as I love the amount of info I can see on the screen.
For instance the built in games (Solitaire etc) don't scale particularly well, and I emailed the guy who wrote PocketConquest etc to inform him that his games didn't work in 640x480 but apart from that not had any problems.
Applications I use on a near daily basis:
Calendar,
Pocket Outlook (Text messages AND Email),
Internet Explorer,
Notes,
Pocket Word,
Adobe Reader 2.0,
Microsoft Remote Display Control,
Pocket Excel,
Terminal Services (with full-screen hack)
I also have PocketPutty which I use fairly frequently and am looking for a decent VNC client.
G
I use it as my primary Jack-of-All-Trades device.
It's my PDA, my phone, my remote control, my book reader, my GPS system, my car MP3 player, my secondary Internet booth, my gamebox, my e-mail reader (I'm driving Blackberry sh*t out of my company!).
Often I carry it in my hands, or a shirt pocket. In the car it's stored in the door.
With PocketBreeze and a new original battery from e-Bay for a mere fraction of O2 replacement price, I'm now a happy camper!
I have used it as a every day phone now for allmost one and a half year. Last weekend i replaced it out with a Motorola A780. Now it feels like i dont have any phone in my pocket becuase of the size (even though A780 is also a big cell phone).
I think the universal is a good pda, but as a phone it isent reliable. I have tried out a lot of diffrents radio versions but it is still unstable.
But, one day i will switch back to my Universal, and that day we will have fully linux support in it. And then it will be reliable again
wow, thank you for all the replies!!!
I have one on the way and I can't wait to get it!
I picked up a moto pebl to use if I wanna go out and only want a small phone (like the bar or formal functions) I can't remember the last time I was this pumped abut getting a new phone! man, the uni owners seem to be a most loyal crowd. Again, any and all comments are welcome as I don't know my a** from my elbow with not only the uni but PPC as well.
For me the size of the Universal becomes a problem only during summer months. Wearing shorts etc.
Apart from that it fits perfectly in my trousers, jacket pockets.
To be honest because of it's shape I prefer to carry it in the pocket than my Wizard, it just fits better...
But yeah, sometime the freezing and other "adventures" drive me mad!!!
If ya wanna get your hands round one just pop into a phone shop and ask around,,, im sure pleanty of places still have one or two left instock as this is the kinda phone only the people who want it buy, if ya want it ya get it,,, ive never turned back and its my best toy to date
-DTM
Use it every day. Never had a problem and everything is at hand. Can't fault it.
Used it every day for work and home, found it to be great, i have 2 of them But now i have a wizard and its much better than the Exec as a phone....

Well, I got it.....
NOt sure if I like it yet or not. seems like most of the apps I have don't work due to the screen
I can't even get marsware weatherpanel to work. I may end up trading it off but im not to sure yet. that and the rf dont seem to great where I live but ill give it a bit more time.
Anyone wanna trade me??
I will say that I love the keyboard and the screen is amazing!!! Size isn't to bad and weight dont bother me none either. I have only had the phone for a few hours so ill give it some time before making a decision.

upgrade to what rom? I'm I have wm6 on here or is that not what you mean? is there a "best rom" to use?

About to buy an Xperia...a few questions to people that have one!

About to bite the bullet and goto a monthly contract with O2, was trying to get the HTC HD, but they said they wont be getting it within the next three months. Is that because Orange as a timed exclusive? Or because its a direct rival to the iphone?
Anyhoo, think I will be getting the Sony Xperia...i keep reading reviews saying its really slow when switching between panels, the user interface isnt too good etc.
Now, I know you guys here at xda-dev know your $hit and would be the best to ask.
What you think? Yeah or Neigh?
I have a few questions if anybody with an Xperia can answer?
1)
Hows it for video playback? Does it take up the full screen when you switch to landscape?
2)
Does it play full 700mb dvdrips ok via core media player or do you still need to convert them with some encoder
3)
Web browsing with Opera (with Flash)...any good?
4)
Speed of the overall user-interface, is it as slow as the reviews make out? Or if you use one xda-devs custom roms does this get round it?
5)
TV out, i read somewhere on this forum that it might have tv out? Or am i talking $hite
Thanks for any advice and tips folks!
Hey fracmo2000
Welcome to xda-developers.com
Here's a few answers, hope it helps.
1)It obviously depends on the aspect ratio of the video, when using core player i have it set to automatically stretch the video to the screen size and it works perfect.
2) I have been able to play dvdrips via core player, with no lag whatso ever!!
3)Opera Mobile is great, the no scrollbars idea takes quite a lot of getting used to, for example scrolling down to the x1 thread on xda developers takes quite a while.
Sorry I cannot give any feedback on flash
4)This is a fast phone, who has reviewed it to be slow. But yes the custom roms here makes it blazing fast
5)No TV- OUT sorry, just gonna have to live with that
I've had this phone for a month now, was on holiday and didnt really look into customizing it untill recently, so as stock phone it was amazing.
Then i descovered xda-developers.com and havent been able to stop.
Some times i do however regret choosing this phone, but thats only cause its not completely finger friendly, but the people here are working on that and as soon as there's a proper landscape fixed tf3d cooked rom or pointui 2 is released this will be one of the best phones i've ever used, or seen.
Good phone, love it
1. I'm able to watch using all the width in landscape mode
2. I've watch 350mb TV rips using CorePlayer fine.
3. I like Opera, Flash is a bit useless as it supports early versions (but this is the same with all WinMos)
4. Other than the odd time opening Messaging taking 5 seconds, everything else is really fast.
5. No sign of TV out at the mo.
artesea
How is that?
My messaging opens blazing fast, keep it in the background.
How many emails you have??
As for flash, it's great since it supports YouTube.
It's about a one in three when messaging needs to open from scratch. Have no more than 50 emails in the box. Not a massive problem though.
Strange,
I got like 500 in 3 accounts and it's so fast...
Hey there fellow xperia user wannabe.....
I went from noob to pro using xda developers and here is my take on the x1.
1 - Perfect. Yes.
2 -Yous till need to convert them for best results. Core player doesn't support hardware acceleration...YET.
3 - Amazing. As good as my PC.
4 - The reviewers had earlier versions of the phone with unfinished software. The x1 is laggy sometimes but overall its faster than any other machine i had previously owned or touched.
5 - Nope
Let me add that the possibilities of customization are infinite...
Maybe you have to consider this one too. I am very dissappointed ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447211
I hope they willfix this but i don't know should i wait couple of months more...
Got myself a shiney new Xperia Whooooooooooo! Wanted it in black, but o2 doesnt do it for whatever reason.
Well pleased with it, only a few gripes but tis all good! Been reading up on the ROMs...does it make that much difference? I read some people where having stability issues?

Should i get an X1??

Ive been waiting for a W995 for a few months now, forgot about the x1, but recentley i saw play.com are selling them for £400 and the W995 will be £380. Question is, which one should i choose?? Should i take the risk with WM or stick with A200 which im pretty board with tbh and really need a change. Can some one please answer these questions.
1.) Im quite fast when using my phone for basic tasks ie sending a text message, which is faster A200 or WM??
2.) I wont be using an X1 for modding and using loads of apps etc i would just use the media section, the camera, text messaging, interent browsing, and some light gaming and thats pretty much it, would the X1 be okay for just that?? (i dont mind there been all these extra feats)
3.) Is the media player fast, ie browsing photos, choosings songs etc??
4.)Can you minimize the music player while the music is playing??
5.)Can the text message section be used on the panels page??
6.)If i set an alarm on the X1 will it still go off even if the phone is switched off??
7.)Can you have more than one page of panels??
Thanks for answers, im really considering the X1 and your opinion will really help me decide.

If you have WM set up it couldn't be faster, and remember you have a QWERTY Keyboard with the X1. It makes me type 10 times faster than with a normal boring mobile phone keyboard.

It's very good for these tasks, camera could have more MP but hey, it's enough if you think about it. Keep in mind that gaming might not be so much fun. There are only a few games that look good on WVGA. Haven't tried "normal" JAVA games yet, but I think the high resolution of the X1 could be a problem.

No. But you can switch the phone function of separately, so battery consumption will be VERY little. No need to turn it fully off. (Power-on consumes quite a lot of battery, btw).

I recommend you to buy an X1, but I strongly suggest you organise some additional software. You should furthermore know that WM is not just an alternate operating system. It will probably be quite different from what you've experienced so far. More like a PC.
Firefall pretty much said it all , but still.....
Short answer:
yes
Long answer:
Wtf? You don't have a Xperia? Go get one right now . Best phone in the world.
Cheers.
No, wait for the X2 to come out.

1) WTF is an A200? A panasonic phone? If so switch to Windows Mobile cause the Panasonic phone im looking at is crap! http://www.gsmarena.com/panasonic_a200-911.php
2) If you don't use this phone for ROMs or atleast installing a lot of good applications...THIS PHONE SUCKS
3) The Media Player is very nice interface and looks, but it is slow at seeking tracks, what I mean by seeking is tapping the cue line so you can instantly fast forward to a specific point in time. Picture viewer in the media panel is sub par.
4) You can't minimize the media panel, unless you mod the phone simply by installing a shortcut to the panel to run as an application instead of a today screen. If you want a fast media player that is a good today plugin, and plays in background get Touch Pro 2.
5) You can send a text on any panel, but you only have windows mobile software to text. Sony Ericsson didn't include any other texting programs.
6) Not at all.
7) Only 1 panel at a time. 9 panels MAX when you click panels button.
If you aren't into this customizing stuff. DO NOT GET AN X1. That's what Windows Mobile is all about..especially the X1.
The X1 is capable of many things, but it comes to you with nothing special until you make it special.
X1 is for people who are willing to spend the time on their phone. X1 isn't casual.
Otherwise get an Iphone, or a Touch FLO phone, or Symbian Phone which is basically the SE W995, or get a Touch symbian phone Samsung HD or Nokia N97.
Trust me, if you are used to accepting what your phone has on its own, you should get something that isn't windows mobile. If you want a casual phone with windows mobile, and you dont want to mod, they you have to get a phone with Touch Flo already built in.

I'm with you on this one. I'm good with computers but I'm no modder, the only reason I kept with my X1 (I'm onto my 2nd one now) is that I want to learn how to mod WinMo and dev. software for the platform.
Get the W995, HTC Touch Pro 2 or iPhone, it's an out of the box experience whereas the X1 needs special treatment.
I'll agree with the last few posts, that if you're not planning on (or at least interested in) shopping around for apps, the X1 is a fairly boring phone on its own. Granted, it's still the best out-of-the-box WM phone I've seen, and I work selling the things, but WM is truly all about the customization. ROMs might not be necessary, but the apps definitely make the experience.
Though to clarify on the alarm; it won't work with the phone turned completely off, but it WILL work:
1. When the phone radio is turned off.
2. When the phone is on silent (I love this feature).

What the heck do you mean ROFL? One guy told him to YES get the phone even though he wants something good but simple. In his post he said that he doesn't want to mod his phone. Do you know what's going to happen if an average joe user buys an Xperia? He is going to hate it. Sorry but this is the truth.
A person who doesn't add extra stuff to a windows mobile phone is bound to hate windows mobile forever. Do you realize that not everybody hates the iPhone? That's because they hate something else such as a Windows Mobile phone. I have read comments from forums to youtube about people complaining and bashing Windows Mobile...and what do they always say? "Worst interface ever, YEARS behind". They want a good out of the box experience.
This guy is looking for a good out of the box experience. I am sure that Xperia sucks if it didn't have the option to install applications or flash into a different ROM.
This isn't funny buddy.
For just casual use, nope. You could get something much better and suited to your needs. iPhone would probably be the top-line of what you want.
the x1 phone could be better , but , there again , there is no better
It all depends on the kind of food you eat, if you eat allot of ready made meals, the iphone is the best fast food out there, however if you like to cook for yourself, there are allot of interesting ingredients out there for windows, but it takes some time, trial and error before you can combine them into a satisfying meal.
I think everyone could benefit from learning how to cook with simple ingredients, but I realise not everyone has the time or the patience, for these people there is the iphone.
If you do learn the rewards can be very satisfying, and there is no more versitile cooker or better looker than the X1.
It has took me nearly 8 months, to find the performance limits of the x1, my work on 3D has developed to such a level that I am constantly come up against out of memory errors, soon I could be ready for a new device.
This is no disrespect to the X1, my PC has a high end processor, good video card and 4 gb or ram, and it also gives me out of memory errors.
The x1 was touted as the iphone killer, this was misguided, as there will always be a market for mass produced fast food.
The x1 is a thriller...A laptop killer.

This guy is looking for a good out of the box experience. I am sure that Xperia sucks if it didn't have the option to install applications or flash into a different ROM.
This isn't funny buddy.

NO phone is good out of the box. You always have to mess around with it. Furthermore, in my post I mentioned that he SHOULD get soem additional software. It's not magic to download and install something, you know? Even the average I-have-no-clue-User can do it.
Hmmm, thanks for the response, i couldnt get an iphone as its too simple with no structure and basic tasks missing. I dont mind tweaking with my phone as long as its simple and easy, i have modded my C902 so im not afraid to try new things.
On a scale of 1 to 10, 10been the easiest and 1been extremely diffecult, how easy is it to modd the X1???
poetryrocksalot said:
No, wait for the X2 to come out.
EDIT: NOW THAT I READ YOUR POST...Don't listen to these people
1) WTF is an A200? A panasonic phone? If so switch to Windows Mobile cause the Panasonic phone im looking at is crap! http://www.gsmarena.com/panasonic_a200-911.php2) If you don't use this phone for ROMs or atleast installing a lot of good applications...THIS PHONE SUCKS

No youve got it all wrong, SE no longer uses Symbian, the last Symbian phone was announced 2years ago and was taken of the shelves a week after release. The latest SE phone the W995 (£380) which is the top dog of the Walkman phones runs on se Java OS A200. The Concpet phone Idou runs on Symbian Foundation and was announced in Janurary as a concept phone and there will be a official anouncment this Friday (may 28th),

what can Leo do?

hi all
I'm curious that what can Leo do? After a lot of video of it to show how it's great..where are the strengths and weaknesses of it? Is it a really smart phone?
Thank for your all care!
there are plenty of reviews on the internet, read them.
oh and it is really a smartphone just like almost all listed on this forum

care to explain what a smart function is
Yes what can it actually do?
HTC has blown us bigtime again.
It can´t do enything you expect it to do, exept looking really nice.
HTC cant expect us to always relly on XDA all the time.
This whole scenario reminds me of "the blackstone affair".
When I bought the blackstone I was convinced, after reading almost everything there were to read about it, it was the best phone ever made.
I was convinced this community would fix every flaw.
Everyboy just assumed the xda devs would fix things.
Ok, XDA have made blackstone better that it was at first, but its not the killerphone
I was expecting it to be.
Now after reading about Leo I get the same fealing.
I mean, were is the native multitouch support. I have read posts were people just assume xda will get that. It still have a GPS-lag. No USB-host, wich everyone seam to just say: XDA will get that. It wont! It is just too hard and to time consuming.
So what can Leo do, except look good?
For 700 euro I had expected a lot more!

I know and it makes med sad.
I have bean in this buying coma and just got woken up,
and realised I cant get everything in one phone, if I chose to buy a
HTC phone...
But how come a phone with killer hardware still havent got more to offer,
when both samsung and toshiba G01 has more things to make use of the
hardware?
So what can it do? What use do I have of Leos hardware?
I think this is a nice thread with a good topic.
then don't buy a Leo, simple huh?
Toshiba TG01 lags, care to explain me why? Yet it has the same processor as the HD2. So what is the use of the hardware there (same question)? Same thing on the samsung. Every phone has a fault or something that won't make everyone happen, that's just how it is.
No manufacturer will ever make a phone with everything in it, it's not just HTC that does this. It shouldn't make you sad either, you would do the same if you ran that company, otherwise would bring them about ruin
dont confuse HTC with windows, and iPhone with its respected OS..
HTC made this phone, made a monster, whether it does everything you want or not, its personal opinion, but HTC did make a phone, not the operating system, which is where we get to Windows Mobile, with that OS it depends on the people who make programs for each phone, but we have a ton of windows mobile devices, where each one should have its software designed for it. Now i agree with u, Windows Mobile didnt give us unlimited app's options, they left a big part of that in the hands of other programmers, which is why we are all here on XDA
The iPhone on the other hand, they made the 3 versions of the phone, with all the app's, and then released it, even tho around 90% of the apps are a joke that u install 1 time, play with it for 5 minutes and uninstall it, its still a huge amount of applications.
So you cant really ask if the HD2 can do what the iPhone does, it just takes time for the developers take that "everything i want" and put it into each program
edit: (and i really had to do this ): Dont ask what the Leo can do for you, ask what you can do for your Leo!
^Well said! and great expression 'Dont ask what the Leo can do for you, ask what you can do for your Leo' LOL

I expect my phone to be useful to me, not the other way round.
Oh, don't worry, it will be usefull.
Only problem will be could you use all of it's potentials... and find a way to do that...
Gaining post count
Well, seems to me new users badly need postcounts to get a free HSPL when the time comes.
Someone said, ..O dear... (that what spot on)
For the rest, if people really want 1 device that can do it all, buy
the HTC Shift.
This Hybrid OS device does everything from detecting Higgs particles to transdimensional teleportation, GSM calling and Windows 7 / Windows Mobile 6.1 with HDSPA and builtin stereo speakers and then some.
First impressions...
Ok, here some first user experience after half a day:
PRO's:
- The screen is HUGE!
- Flat device
- New TouchFlo + "multitouch" (only zooming), pressuresensitive
- Most applications and functions are fingerfriendly
- Fast(er than Topaz). See my new benchmark thread
- Led flash (not very good, but better than nothing)
- Much program memory 336 Mb
- Flat leather case, simpel but usefull I think
- 3,5 mm connection
- New micro-usb connection (is that a pro?)
CON's:
- The device is huge! To be honest I was a bit shocked when I first saw it. It's very "wide"...
- My first impression is that the screen is good but no better than the (small) Topaz screen
- Storage memory is low, only 183 Mb
- No stylus! At the moment a big issue for me. Not everything is fingerfriendly, so much frustration. Scrolling is hell! CERTAINLY AN ISSUE BECAUSE THE SCREEN DOESN'T RESPOND ON A STYLUS OR OTHER SHARP OBJECT!!! Hope I will get used to this soon.
- Camera sticks out. The camrea sticks out of the back of the device so the device rests on the silver edges of the camera. Not good for the silver, not good for the camera.
All in all it's impressive...!
Report later when I'm a bit more used to it.
(My Topaz screen look sooooo small now.....)
I completly agree with ETHANIAs first post.
There is also one BIG CON:
"Pretty much all videos under 720p played just fine without any dropped frames. The HTC HD2 has similar issues as Acer neoTouch and has even worse performance. While the neoTouch managed to play the 720p videos with 15-17 fps, the HD2 has an output of only 12-13 frames per second. Not that any of those is actually watchable but it gives you an idea. We guess the graphics subsystem of the Acer neoTouch has a few tricks under its sleeve and it's not a matter of pure CPU clock comparison."

and i should pay 700€ for this???

I wonder why you even bother to write this. By now we all know HTC won't do anything with this type of comment.
Nice to share but if you don't want it (don't you?), just don't buy it. Indeed it saves you 700 euro. (by the way in Holland they are cheaper...).
And I am a happy owner.

Why we love our HD2? Guys, share with me

These days, I've seen way too many threads like "Goodbye HD2, hello Iphone", "Htc Hd2 bye bye" or "Wtf with this phone". I cant stand it. So I want to have a praise thread for our HD2, our beloved and best one, also want to share my opinions on the HD2 and Winmo generally for everyone to see and think.
Here are some type of opinions quite popular these days:
"Windows mobile 6.5 is a dead os for lack of a better term and also know that the development for apps for it is going to taper and die off at some point"
"HD2 is too buggy, laggy, errors"
"Winmo is a waste for HD2"
"Where are the games and apps?"
"Not work out of the box?"
To answer, first of all, I dont care about apps that Iphone or Android has.
I dont play games much now so that's a second point. Although they do have some very interesting like Tunewiki or Layar, that's the only thing I miss from my old 3GS and Hero. And if u paid so many money for games on iphone, why dont paid a 5 Euro more for Fpsece, to have the best experience about PS1 games on a mobile device so far.
Secondly, about basic apps, Winmo wins.
For videos: I dont have to spend hours to find a good convert program and hours to config and wait for the converted file to transfer to my phone, Coreplayer and TCPMP serve them right.
For ebooks: the most popular format is prc, Mobipocket reader wins again, I dont have to convert either.
For office: what can win over office mobile, please show me, I have no idea about this.
And u know what, Winmo has these basic things and apps for free!!!
Third, the true multitask:
Winmo has been a winner since the start. I agree that Iphone can be jailbreak then install e.g Proswitcher, but that's not so convenient like Winmo. The basic thing about Android is it never really closes an app, keeping it running in the background for quick response, but that only makes Android become slower and laggy just like Winmo. But for convenient, and with a power specs like HD2, it's so great in terms of multitask for me.
Fourth, the screen:
HD2 has a great and super beautiful 4.3 inch screen. I can never go back to a 3.2 (Hero) or 3.5(Iphone) now, I will consider for a 3.7 one. Watching photos, videos, viewing documents, surfing. It's superb with HD2. And please dont expect a device with great screen like that to have a good battery life. More than a day with normal usage is so enough. I got 1.5 days or even more than 2 days with my HD2.
Fifth, and the best one imo, CUSTOMIZATIONS
Winmo is the best world for customizations, for devs and chefs. It got history, and it's truly popular, right? I love to tweak my phone, customize it the way I one, change every weeks or even every days, so I cannot get bored with it. And look at this forum, so many manila mods have been built and definitely going on and on. From maxmanilla, cookie home tabs, GTX, all are wonderful and amazing. I cant thank them and all the chefs here enough.
Now, look at Iphone, what can u do with this easy to get bored home screen, except for changing icons?
And even android, it's not easy to customize it without rooting. And things to customize so far? Not much, I see.
For all that has errors, bugs, laggy, I think it's just u to make the phone like that, not the phone itself (if it's not a defective one). Too many report shows the phone works out of the box, count me in for that. I went with stock rom for a month at first with nothing went wrong.
Winmo to me is never a dead OS like it seems now. It's still growing strong in the world thanks to xda, yes, xda is the one that makes it strong, imo. We love to tweak, we love to customize, we love to share our knowledge and stuffs, so we are here. If u just dont feel like to tweak, u better not be here, xda is not some place where u can just complain and complain everyday for ur own faults.
Finally, HD2 is not a waste to me to run Winmo, it's best with Winmo.
Whew, my longest post so far. Guys, dont leave me alone, come and praise our HD2, I know u will.
List the best things u ever had with HD2 and show the world
P.S: it's just my opinion, but we all have private and personal purposes for using mobile in our life, so that we have personal choices on mobile, so please dont flame on me so hard, haha
1. big screen - can see web pages better than my x1a 3" screen
2. software options (still compatible with the software i use on my old phone) tomtom 7 - no need to have a data connection to use gps, slick im - use this when im on the move, option of using several different types of web browsers (ie, opera, opera mini, skyfire)
3. phone is unlocked and can use it as a prepaid phone.
Exactly mate, should have mentioned the chasing game between apple and devs, it's really annoying sometimes. And the price for an unlock iphone is really ridiculous.
You know, I have both the Nexus one and HD2, but I am really thinking of selling my HD2. I love all the things you have mentioned, but texting is kind of a big deal to me. With an HD2, the keyboard so choppy, no matter the rom I try. If I can somehow fix it, bye bye nexus. If not, well...
Just thinking would there be a phone that has a screen larger than 4.3" in the future or this is the biggest already? By the way 4.3" wide is a common size for GPS device.

The athena had a 5inch screen.... but you couldn't use it as a regular handset. You needed to use either bluetooth headsets or speakerphone. It was a cool phone, though.
You guys covered it
I agree with everything you guys said, except texting prob, I use swype, love it!! By far best phone I've ever had!! Just added, msvc, love it, just made perfect, better!!
My main reason for choosing HD2 over iphone or android devices is privacy!
I don't have to have apple and google knowing everything about me!

exactly my thoughts.
I love it because the great hardware I saw this as a newstep after the qualcomm 528 mhz. Wich was used for 3 or more years. This was a newstep for 2 years this will be a fast phone. And the freedom of windows mobile is also great.
Simply the best phone I ever had! Does everything I need and more!
I love my HD2 because it's big, it's strong, it's fast and give me the possibility to customize everything like I want.
I love my HD2 even because makes me different from all the mass of sheeps that walk around with an Iphone and use their phono to simulate a beer drinking and s**t like this.
Having an HD2, like my good old HTC Topaz, makes me feel different and like a pro.
I have always been a win mobile user. love the ability to anything! can send files bluetooth, COMPLETELY change the theme of the phone, and modify the software ANY way you see fit. suck on that iphone.
The only thing I would change would be camera hardware button
They say the HD2 will be the last in windows mobile 6.5. what a way to go out with a bang!!!
windows mobile+huge screen+fast processor= one sick device
I could probably be classified as a (very) dull business user and I have never before cared over what device was put into my hands..
I have used SE, Nokia, HTC, you name it, and even a iPhone for a while, and all worked okay and I did type an occasional e-mail on them but in reality they all fell short, some with clunky e-mail integration other with unsuitable screens for reading long texts.
With the HD2 I have hit "home", I have become truly freed from my office - I can access and work with my e-mails, read trough and review extensive attachment, surf the web, get online with my laptop without hassle trough the WiFi router. First phone I ever used that work seamless with bluetooth both in the car and with headsets.
It's a serious device and not a toy with downloaded flashlight applications.

Hi,
I like:
1) Screen (come on 4.3 inch MAMA MYA that’s nice step for mobile phones. I will never buy IPhone 4G if it’s less than 4.3 inch screen)
2) Design (Very slim very sexy)
3) Speed (yeah it’s really speedy)
4) Freedom (WOW the best thing. No more F jailbreak)
I don't like:
1) SMS messaging interface (Please anyone know other messaging interfaces? or at least to tell me how to disable the loading of messages as once. I rather like IPhone messaging where it loads small amount of sms in the chat area and load more history sms on request if needed)
2) Battery life (To bad to be in such great device)

I always have over 400 sms in my inbox, and it loads quite quickly, I think. No problem for me. Why dont u try the old style thread messaging from Energy rom or some other roms?
Thank you for starting this post. I was reluctant to upgrade from my Touch Pro to the HD2 for the lack of a hardware keyboard, which I used constantly. The big, beautiful screen won me over and I'm happy to report that I'm typing as fast as ever now that I'm used to my HD2.
I love the huge screen, HTC Sense (Thanks to Cookie and averyone else, not enough room in this thread), one touch dialing, programs etc, etc.
Every, and I mean EVERY challenge that I had with my phone when I first bought it has been solved by using these forums.
Every, and I mean EVERY modification that I could have dreamed of has been supplied by using these forums.
This has been the case since I started using WinMo and with every device I've owned.
These sour grapes posts by individuals who refuse to take the time to use this fine provision in order to make full use of their HD2 are a slap in the face to the hardworking developers who have brought countless hours of joy to the rest of us who deeply appreciate their work.
To the developers and contributors of this forum: I salute you.
To the individuals who are posting their "Bye, Bye" threads. Please leave quietly, and don't let the door hit you in the iphone.
Oh finally some positive thread for HD2.
So what i love about my HD2.
Speed - lighting fast
Customization - Thanks Winmo 6.5
Usefull Programs - Programs that really matters. Like Resco explorer and image viewer, FPSEce,iGO with multitouch and compass
BIG screen - The Biggest!
Open platform (flashing ROMs) - Can be really fun
Loud speakers - Well maybe too much =)
Capacitive screen with multitouch - Say yes to best gaming experience
How the phone feels in pocket (comfortable) - You dont even know it's in your pocket
But there are few bad things =(
Development - The newest games looks like ripped of java with touch support
Really old core of OS - Winmo 6.5 is quite ugly too
Reset button under Battery cover - lol at this one
