So I did the "upgrade" that TMO put out on their website for the HD2 and now I do not get the popup message window when a new text comes in. Before the upgrade it my phone was dormant and I had a new text message the display would come to life and a box would display at the bottom of the screen with a preview of the message (in addition to the normal audible notification). Now the display comes on and the audible notification occurs but there is not popup box anymore. Any thoughts?

Thank you for the reply zelendel. My menus do not have that exact string. If I go to Settings I have a Sounds & Display option, which has the following options - Profiles, Volume, Ring and Notifications, Display and G-Sensor. The only place in these menus that I can alter the text message is teh sound that plays. I do not see a checkbox.

Ok sounds like those are the manila style settings. In the settings there may be a softkey marked all settings and that should take you to the WM settings. if not then disable sense and then goint settings and that should give you the WM settings as well.

Wrong "settings" area. When you're on the settings tab there, click "menu" in the bottom right, then "all settings", then "sounds and notifications" On the 2nd tab ("notifications"), pick "Message: New message" from the first drop-down, then you'll see the check box you need.
Thank you Phunk! That was what I was missing!!!

No prob...it was the same place zelendel was referring to, but HTC did nobody a favor when they created a 2nd distinct set of "settings" and kept the name the same
Yeah sorry I disabled the manila settings thing long ago and forgot about it.
Issue resolved.

as wrote in my post, I've already done that... but that means only to not show the message directy, when it arives. I've already unlick that checkbox, but there is still an notification on the screen when i get a mail, which says "you have x unread messages"... from there you can "dismiss" or "show"...
Wow, i had that question in my mind, answer came before the question. Thanks rudegar.

Call your service provider (AT&T, etc.) and tell them about the notification problem. Provide info...they can fix for you from their end. I had the notification problem when after listening to voicemail, the word and icon remained on my device.

I don't think, that my provider can help, because I use Direct Push, which communicates directly with our own Exchange-Server... my provider provides only the possibility to connect to the internet. It must be a hidden setting in WM-registry or something like that

OK, sorry 'bout that. I have direct push mail available, but don't use it because of what you're experiencing right now. I just go on the internet to check and read my mail. I'm not all that familiar with direct push; don't really know how it works.
For those still looking for the answer for this; the only way to turn this off when using Push mail is by setting the following registry value:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Notifications\{A877D65A-239C-47a7-9304-0D347F580408}
set value "Options" to 20000000 (hexadecimal) or 536870912 (decimal)
Note that this disables email notifications completely, so if you want just a sound or a vibe, you'll have to use some other tool (e.g. MortScript) to achieve that.
i found this on another site.It may help you..
1. Install a registry editor like Resco File Explorer’s add-on registry editor or PHM registry editor.
2. Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER
3. Tap control panel>notifications
4. Tap default
5. Tap options
6. Choose what value will be applicable to you and replace the default number with it (for XDA Atom, the number was 13, I replaced it with 8 to suit my preference):
0 show icon
1 show icon and play notification sound
2 show icon and vibration
3 show icon and vibration and play notification sound
4 same as 0
5 same as 1
6 same as 3
7 same as 3
8 show icon and notification bubble
9 show icon and play notification sound and show notification bubble
10 show icon and notification bubble and vibration
7. If you want to configure how long the notification bubble will stay on the screen, tap on duration instead of options. Change the number there into the number of seconds you want the notification bubble to stay up.
I've created a CAB that does the following changes, however SMS notification is still working (which is ok for me).
Code:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Notifications\{A877D65A-239C-47a7-9304-0D347F580408}
set value "Options" to 20000000 (hexadecimal) or 536870912 (decimal)
OK, guys, I managed to switch off the annoying visual notifications for missed calls and SMS by setting the 536870912 value for "Options". But there's a problem - I cannot get any sound notification for new SMS Is there anyway to get sound/vibration with all other visual notifications turned off? Please tell me "yes"
Has anyone found a solution in the meantime? I'm still searching for a way to disable the "visual notification" without loosing the new-email-sound.
JR...AWESOME JOB ! Thank you so so so so much for sharing this cab file....I am so happy I didn't have to go into the registry to make the change !!!!
So I kinda had the same question. I'm using s2u2 but I don't like the notification popping up when its activated. The whole screen turns black except for the notification bubble, which kinda defeats the purpose of using s2u2. I have disabled all but the downloaded mms notification cuz is greyed out on my device? Is this normal on everyones device? I don't wanna lose sounds, I just want the bubble gone
Would be great to have this, especially with S2U2 and PocketCM.. Is there still no way?
I didnt like the way the emails and messages opened in the home tab, ie it goes straight to the latest message so I added the mail and messages programs from the start menu to my quick links which corrects these problems. However, there is no notifications on the quick links to notify me if I've got a message or not. Is there a way you can get notifications to come up like it does on the home tabs?

You can set notifications to show on screen messages for these events, yeah.
Go to Settings, All Settings, Sounds & Notifications, Notifications (tab) and when you go to message or new email message, you can set it to "Display message on screen".
Hope this helps

Unfortunately not because if I go into settings I don't have an option for 'All settings'. The only option I can find for notifications is under display and sounds, and I can only change the sounds and vibrate for notifications. Am I doing something wrong?

Sorry - it's the settings tab, then Menu, then All settings.
It's frustrating because All Settings is what the settings icon in the start menu used to do, and some people have modified the registry so that it's back that way (me included), so when you want someone to go to settings, you have to actually tell them to go to the settings tab, then menu, then all settings, when you just want the bloody windows settings screen!! lol

Thanks, I never even knew that all settings was even there.I'll see if that works, cheers
The notification wasn't exactly what I was after, with the fix suggested above a pop up comes up saying new sms which is not exactly what I was after. What I wanted was something like on the messages on the tabs where you get a green circle superimposed with a number of how many messages you have. Can that be done?
Ah - I see what you're saying now. Sorry, I misunderstood.
Have you looked at MaxManila at all? That does exactly what you're asking.

I found this in another post, but it seems to be buggy... I get alot of squares in the popup and the name of the sender only.
Have you ever tried changing the options in Settings->Sound and notification->Notification tab and checking the box "Show message on the screen" ?

Exactly what I wrote above... and it's not working properly!
On the top title bar on the HD2 screen, it shows battery level, signal level, time ,ect.
At times it will also show an "email" icon, or and "SMS" icon to indicate that a new email or sms came in.
But, I only know to carefully tap the title bar on the middle to right side of the titlebar to then pop-up/display the full-screen notification app which more easily displays a verbose/detailed description of any notifications.
Does anyone know if there is a way to display this "Notification" screen via a shortcut instead of having to tediously tap the top title bar on the screen?
settings menu all settings sounds and notifications notifications tab in top select "message new email message" and tick show on screen.

I am sorry, I meant to say how can I call up the "nitification" master screen even if there are currently no notifications to announce.
In other words, it seems the left softkey on home screens for older ROMS use to say "Notifications", which did exactly what I am looking for (to call up that main notification screen). But it seems the new roms change this left softkey to "Action".
So, how can I manually call up the "Notification" screen even if there are no current notifications to display?
I used to be able to see who SMS Texts were actually from on the lock screen with my S6. Now that I have the S8, it only shows that I have an SMS message and it won't show me who it's from unless I actually go into the Messages App? How do I make the sender visible on the lock screen?

Go to settings -> Lock screen and security -> Notifications -> make sure it's on , then go into that menu and make sure you do not have Hide content or notification icons only turned on - also make sure the toggle for all apps is turned on too
Also you have to be using the crappy stock Samsung Messages app, otherwise you won't get that little bubble notification or the edge screen light up. Was very annoyed to see both of those things disabled from working if you use Android Messages or any other app.

I went to Settings > Lock screen and security > Notifications (which is turned on) and then into that menu. In that menu I have the "Hide Content" toggle turned off - the "Notification icons only - Hide notification details and show only the icon" toggle turned off. The toggle for "All Apps" is On. But when I get a SMS message, it only shows "Messages" on the lock screen... not who it's actually from like it used to do with my Galaxy S6. What am I doing wrong?

Ever figure this out? I can't. I have done all of the above and gone into the message app and allowed for content to be displayed and gone into the always on display and allowed for content to be displayed. I am using the native message app. I still just get a message icon on my lock screen. No content. Super frustrating!

I has the same issue. I had googled a million times. Finally had a bright idea.... Go to setting > about phone > down at the bottom should say reset > reset all settings.
This doesn't erase your phone, only sets it back to default stiff like background, notifications, ringtones etc. BUT it finally shows the messages!
Any other suggestions on this? I've tried everything in this thread, including resetting my settings to default. Driving me nuts. After being on the pixel for the past 7 months until now, I've gotten very used to being able to see previews on the lock screen and replying from the lock screen too. I have all the appropriate settings checked that should be allowing me to see previews, but it doesn't. All I want is for the screen to briefly wake up when a text comes through, and to be able to preview it. Is this supposed to be possible on the S8?

SAME ISSUES HERE -- samsung s8/t-mobile
it seems as though the "show content" option for notifications has disappeared on the Samsung S8... I've tried everything i can think of and searched several boards and come up unsuccessful... the only options for notifications on a lock screen (at least for me - Samsung S8 on t-mobile) are: :hide content" or "do not show notifications".. both of which are not helpful when attempting to view the sender's name while hiding their actual text... HELP!
It works on textra under settings then customise notifications then at the bottom u will see privacy settings in there u can have it to show contact but hide message. Hope that's what you wanted. Cheers.

The only way I found to get to the lock screen and view/reply to text message is to double tap the home button first.
It's anoying additional step, but I'm trying to get used to it.

I am not sure if you have found a fix for this or not but.... Last week I accidentally factory reset my phone and lost everything. I still had my old phone and was able to transfer all that was there back over, but my screen stopped lighting up with new notifications. After spending the last hour trying to fix it I was successful!
Settings > Apps> Messages > gear icon above Force Stop > About Messages > update
I really hope this helps others.
