It really depends what you want to do, but check out the themes section of the Leo xda forum, that will give you an insight.
Standards things like installing Cookies HomeTab/MaxManilla, altering wallpapers, stucturing the start menu ok.
The themes section will give you cabs you can install which will place new icon sets on your phone (and replace the original which can be reverted) and give it a slight new look.

First read read read this forum...then decide what you want to do with your phone. Enjoy!

By "JailBroken" you mean HSPL, no.
You only need to install HSPL (check the ROMS section for more info/definition) if you want to upgrade the ROM to a non-official version.
There are updates for most providers and from HTC available from the HTC Support site which you can install without having to HSPL, which means all warrenties stay intact (Please make sure you read how to do this from the HTC site properly as it could leave it unusable, and "Flashing" the ROM will always perform a Hard Reset so will get rid of all of your data.
Any *.cabs that you install are just programs and can be installed removed as you want.

i have read alot of threads to get up to speed

please help
They are very easy, follow the same steps as flashing a rom, thats it!! Must be Hard-spl then just run the curtomruu.exe
Yeah, as husker91 says, just pretend you're flashing a ROM. It's very easy. Just follow all the steps, don't skip any steps, and make sure you follow all the directions!
Here's a pictorial, if you need it. This pictorial is a ROM-flashing guide, and it's pretty much how you flash a radio-rom.
*However, I do believe this should have been posted in the Radio thread OR at least the ROM development sub-forum.
Very easy as stated above

well as far as roms goes.my way is just grab one and flash everybody has likes and dislike .you wont know till ya start flashing different ones.it gets addictive but i love it .i would suggest this rom for your first one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572938 it's stable and fast. i am on it right know ,plus i have a tmobile tp2.usa .so just follow the instructions and flash it .once you get the hang of it you will be flashing alot.just have to find one that you like ,that meets what you want to do with it! it's very easy to do ! well good luck man!the customruu.exe is the progam that will install it into your phone from your computer . it's already in the zip file you download. when you unzip the file you download you will see it !this rom if i remember right ,after you unzipp it you will see a file named flash open it you will see the customruu .well just follow instructions from above you will get it .i know it's scary at first but just be confident. also when you go to flash it from computer make sure all programs are closed and don't open any while you are flashing it .that way nothing mess with it while it's installing .
when i install it will it be put in my programs menu

if you are talking about the customruu.exe no it won't .it's built in to the rom's package itself.you won't see it on your phone.just see it on computer after you unzip .

Customruu.exe is the file you launch while your phone is synchronized to the PC. By using customruu.exe, your PC is transferring the new radio-rom data onto your phone (it's upgrading the radio-rom as this happens).

No, the radio-rom is a software upgrade. Hence, it won't be a program. It'll just be there in your phone (just like how you hardsSPLd your phone, that doesn't show up as a program).

My tip from my own experience: Try as many of them (radio-roms and ROMs) as you can!
Purpose: if you try as many as you can, you will eventually find one that will suit your needs. If you stick with one radio-rom or one ROM, you might not know what you're missing out on with others!
*Radio-roms depend on ROM and location. Not every radio-rom will be the same. I've tried 6 radio-roms, and I ended up with .17 being the best for me. So, try them and see which one is best for you.*

Nope. Radio-roms only determine your phone capabilities (signal strength, data connections, and battery life).
Your Today screen only changes with custom ROMs. Custom ROMs change your Today screen to whatever it comes with.

HardSPL voids your warranty. Reflashing everything stock and the stockSPL will validate your warranty again.
Radios
Most radio come with custom ruu and are as easy as double click to install.
.88 seems to work best for me.
Good luck.

Android vs WP7 vs WP6.5(???) vs MeeGo vs Ubuntu
2) Are there any way only "install" this os on a sd card, and i can change a sd card?? Eg. 8gb sd for wp6.5, 4gb for android
3) Can i not "flash" my phone, only "install" a os in my hd2?

15) How to uninstall this android? Just del the folder? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870518)
16) Are this Android build have flash?
There are lots of question...
Pls answer me
Thanks.
You need to do a lot more reading.
WM6.5 came with the HD2 and is outdated but some still like it.
Meego is not yet completed/available.
Ubuntu works but isn't really perfect as a mobile phone OS IMHO.
Android or Windows Phone 7 are your two main options.
There is only one version of WP7 available from DFT and it works pretty perfectly. WP7 has a unique and slick user interface and works quite well. The problem with WP7 is connecting to windows live services for the market, etc.
Android is the favorite of many here.
There are many versions available 2.2, 2.3, sense, stock, CM, etc.
WP7 and Android can be flashed using MAGLDR.
You cannot flash multiple operating systems at once.
A shipped rom is one provided by the manufacturer when you buy the phone.
The radio is part of the software that allows communication between the OS and the various radios" (GPS, WIFI, 3G, BT).
Thanks for reply!
But there are still some question u have not answer me yet.
Are there any way only "install" this os on a sd card, and i can change a sd card?? Eg. 8gb sd for wp6.5, 4gb for android <-- Added, Can i install WP7 in SD Card?
Can i not "flash" my phone, only "install" a os in my hd2?
Will install hspl will broke my warranty?
What difference between HSPL and SPL???
Which bootloader was the best? GEN.Y???

If my phone broken (eg. mon broke, water inside the phone), which i cannot flash back to stock rom, what should i do?
Can i backup my rom??? <-- This one is the most important
In order...
You can install (and run) Android from the SD card. But not WP7.
Install and flash are basically the same thing. Unless you are running Android from the SD card.
Yes... HSPL is not acceptable to manufacturers or operators (a little bit like kiddy-fiddling and the police). You can 'uninstall' HSPL though.
SPL doesn't allow you to flash 'custom' ROMs, only official ROMs.
Your bootloader question makes no sense.
Installing Android isn't the issue with your warranty. You will most probably have flashed HSPL to get Android... that will break your warranty. You can use an SD version of Android with the latest official WWE ROM and Radio however... but are YOU able to flash the WWE ROM in your country without HSPL?
If you get water in the phone I would throw it in the toilet and flush it if i were you. Most providers do not cover water damage. Anything else, just flash back an official ROM and return it for replacement.
Yes, you can backup your ROM. By using ClockWorkMod, you can create backups.

If you return your device to HTC repair center and thy see HSPL, you don't will have warranty. But if you install HSPL, and if for one or a other reason you need to send your device to HTC repair center just remove HSPL, (yes you can remove it) Ons it's bean removed there are no trace that it was bean install so there is/are no problem more.
What difference between HSPL and SPL???
Click to collapse
SPL = Secondary Program Loader. Think of this in the same sense as bios on a pc. (it sets where your system boots from, intialises sub system process etc)
SSPL = soft spl (this allows you to flash another spl or hardspl).
HSPL = Hard Spl.
HardSPL is involved in unlocking your phone to install a custom ROM that is not signed by carrier. Without unlocking you can only install ROMs from your carrier.

All depends sir, if you will use/install Android on internal memory you need to have/install HSPL, and about this I have reply the previous question.
If you will used Android running from your SD, well then you need to know that Android needs minimum Radio 2.08.50 if this is your case; well than no problem.
If you have a earlier Radio for example Radio 2.07. well if you don't will to change your stock ROM who have a newer radio; well than you need to install HSPL for upgrading your radio (again take a look on HSPL)
If my phone broken (eg. mon broke, water inside the phone), which i cannot flash back to stock rom, what should i do?

Well water inside your device don't fall into the warranty condition, so if there is HSPL ore a other Rom, it don't mater anymore.

As already stated earlier you can run android from either your SD card which doesn't require any installation you simply boot from it OR you can flash a ROM to your phone.
7) No you need to downgrade to 2.08. afaik.
lol believe it or not I read the whole thing and I was wondering same thing. Then I even scrolled up to look and make sure if he actually edited his original post and amended the question and didn't see it. By the time I got to your last post lol I was laughing out loud IRL.
But advice for him is he does pick WM on NAND go with WM6.5.X as base 29XXX is much more stable and from /sdcard he can use Android. Taking he has good microSDHC that is over class 4+ that is.
Can't beat: HD2 WM6.5.X(NAND) and Android(mSD).

Sorry to say, but almost all your questions are mentioned on the instruction post of each rom builder.
You don't need to looking for a answer if you don't follow the instructions. just follow them and all will be okay.

That post's instruction HAVE NO ANYTHING about SPL/HSPL
So i decided asking here...
I have corssed out all the question now and i have put all the question to the #1 Post
Dude you are confusing but ill try to clarify from what you posted. You want to install NAND Android from SPL? WTF you need to have HSPL which HD2 are you using? Leo512/Leo1024? Why don't you want HSPL? Afraid of voiding the warranty?
As I said your best option for "you" is WM(NAND)+AOSP(mSD), far as the sdcard question goes you might want to go with 16gb class 4-6. As 4-8gb is way to small but you can use it if you don't have alot of media.

Hmm... Seems my english was so... bad...
ok, now i retold you all the details with my "best" english xD
I want to install a RAM version of Android 2.2, i will buy a 4gb(or 8gb) class 10 sd card later, but i have a "few" question: I want ANDROID(RAM)+STOCK WM6.5(original one, which one have already installed when u buy the phone)
I am going to install this Android build: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870518
But in that thread, the install instruction, it is not very cleared, so i decided to ask here...
I have upgraded my ROM recently, and now my SPL was 3.03.000, and u have said that ANDROID WILL NOT WORK ON HD2, so i am asking what should i do to use Darkstone's Android in my HD2.
Do i need to install HSPL?
Which version of HSPL will be suitible for me?
Any tutorial that teaches me to install hspl?
AND I AM NOT AFRAIDING IT WILL VOID MY WARRANTY, BECAUESE IT CAN BE UNINSTALLED! I have search through google, are i can restore my phone to NON-HSPL if i put the leoimg(or sth) in the sd card, and press some thing to make it restore, or just flash my ship rom?
And i have some EXTRA QUESTION i want to ask:
Firstly, how to uninstall Darkstone's Androind? Just delete the folder in the SDCard?
Secondly, are Android 2.2 on HD2 will support flash?
That's all my question, thanks for help.
Make sense now as I didn't keep up with the whole HD2 world after I lost my Leo. It was my mistake I see the Android being allocated from RAM now I thought you wanted to install it on NAND. Also where did I say Android will not work on HD2? I thought you wanted Nandroid lol thats all.
You keep editing your freaking posts man I can't keep up but as you are trying to use RAM Android you will not be affected so don't worry about it as I stated above it was my mistake. Skip the whole HSPL convo and yes it will not void your warrenty cuz you didn't and don't need installing in first place. But if you do then yes you can use leo.img to restore it.
Now dude I have read the whole instruction and its very clear so my question to you is why are you asking? Just download and place it on your /sdcard and then CLRCAD.exe and haret.exe there are like 10000s of tutorials on howto do this lol if you need to watch video then thats your last worry, just use FileExp. So if you don't like it just format the mSD hope it helps for what its worth.

HTC HD2 - Changing to Android. Pls Help

Hi,
I have just purchased a new HTC HD2 on T-Mobile (U.K.) and I am loving it !
I am a total novice and wish to change from Windows 6.5 to the better latest Android OS.
Can anyone please tell me how to do this? I have no idea what I am doing and do not want to do something which may jeopardise the phone (I do know that it does affect the warranty) The only thing I know about 'Flash' it flashing my mobile in public.
I would really like if someone can give me Step by Step instructions via a video so I can see what I am doing.
Any feedback would be really appreciated.
Many thanks

Don't rush anything. Make sure you have a good idea about what you're doing and what you can do if things go wrong. If you're unsure about anything just use the search feature first and if you're still iffy about something, ask a question.

Can I use these sites as reference? And if, for anyone reason I wanted to turn back to Windows 6.5, how would I do that?

I think you are making this harder than it needs to be. Just follow the instructions given to you in your previously started thread about the same thing. The link to MSkip gives you detailed instructions on how to install Android on your HD2 and how to revert back to WM6.5 if you so desire.

Thanks for the reply. What is the latest version of Android for HTC HD2? The link you gave me, is that the latest version?
Google is your friend. Haven't used it in a while. If you are that unsure of flashing Android to your HD2 just buy an Android powered phone. Sorry to be so brash but just follow the instructions.

I'll try to explain a bit. First off you've got to install the things that let you install Android in the first place (HSPL, MAGLDR, CWM etc) and after that you install a ROM. A ROM is the thing that will decide what version of Android you phone will have. If you don't like the ROM you have, or if you just want the newest version of Android, all you have to do is change it. You don't have to re-install everything again, just your ROM.
You might have to change your CWM partition size when you choose a new ROM, but the chef (person who made the ROM) will let you know what size you need in the thread. This is also easy and doesn't require you to re-install everything. Don't worry if you don't know what a CWM partition is because it'll make sense eventually.

Thanks for the reply which I found very helpful. Can you tell me where to download the latest ROM to download for T Mobile U.K.?
I found this site:

Can I use any of the ROM's?

Welcome to XDA forums! I'm just a fellow member, but I still want to welcome you here
First, do you know if you have a 32A or 32B device? You have posted that you have a Desire S - do you have both that and Magic? Be sure to read everything you can about rooting and Android in general before trying to install new software on it. You see, I managed to brick my Magic without learning enough before action!
Secondly, CyanogenMod Wiki is a great resource for checking out what all these things mean. See it here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Terminology
For example, answers to your question:
SPL
Second Program Loader, in conjunction with the IPL comprise a device's bootloader. Aside from bootstrapping Android, the bootloader also fulfills various diagnostic functions. One of these functions is the manipulation of data in the device's internal flash ram. Depending on the SPL installed, the user might be able to flash signed NBH files, flash nand images, and more. Note that the SPL is installed and operates independently of the Android build that runs atop it. Generally speaking, there are two variants of the SPL: Stock, which is 'locked' and is installed on most devices from the factory, and Engineering, which is 'unlocked' and has to be manually flashed - usually after 'rooting'.

That's an AWESOME price! I bought mine for £150 last summer!
But to the point - have you gotten any useful information out of the CM wiki? XDA Wiki has great articles, too, but it isn't as fulfilling. With ambition and good resources, you'll learn what you need fast and possibly in a week or a few days you can be able to take care of ROM flashing, customizing your phone a lot more deeply than changing a few settings, getting full access (that people should always have) to your phone's all capabilities and even using it as a WiFi box!
Oh, and if you find anything here on the forums useful or good, press the thanks button. You have 5 clicks a day for it. That's a good way to show the poster appreciation so they can see their work worthful
You've got to take into account it's 2 years old now, plus i got it used of ebay ;( - Oh and CyanogenMod have stopped supporting it.
SO do you think it's worth £37, or should i just say no, or sell it off when it comes? I'm confused at the moment, because CyanogenMod have stopped supporting it so i don't know what to do, and also don't know if it's worth the money i paid for it.

I think all your answers may well be here:

Once you've got past root and recovery, you then can change spl/radio according to your desired rom.

IMO it very well is. A good device with decent hardware, especially for the price.
They've stopped supporting it only OFFICIALLY, but there are still many development working on it for Magic, and there are a few good ROMs - like Ginger Yoshi, Carz12's CyanogenMod 7.1 and of course SebastianFM's HTC Sense ROM.
Read, read, read. Mdacompactuser posted a good link
Cheers everyone. Hopefully we can all think that's it a 'mission' & work together on this . Right i've learnt that i can root the phoen via superoneclick, and get the superuser access. Ok next i was going to do everything via rom manager, however now that option is basically gone for me, as CM are not supporting it, but i can flash the recovery from there. I have chosen clockwork recovery, so flashing it via rom manager should be good. I'll have a look at the link you sent me, and hopefully we can regenerate interest in this device again, and make it gain popularity, so we can be on the official forum boards, instead of the low activity devices. That's the plan, everyone up for it? xD>

If you look in this forum alone, you'll find everything you need to carry out a rom update. As Kanttii pointed out its crucial you know what your phone is before you do anything. I'd stick to guides found on this forum as opposed to ones found elsewhere on the web, simply because the people who wrote the guides on here are more likely to respond to specific queries you may have.
I have to say I found mumilovers posts very complete and useful, so personally I'd start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756918
and then go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824435
Obviously there are other methods, but like I said before, a guide is much better when the author is around to help when you get something wrong or something doesn't make sense to you.
Thanks the phone will probably come today through the post, so i'll read the threads you sent me links to, and hopefully i'll be able to understand most of it . Thanks again .
Wow i managed to also root my phone without bricking it, and installed clockwork mod recovery. I downloaded set cpu, but i'm on default android 2.2 so i can't overclock it. Now i'm confused about how to put a custom rom on it.
EDIT: Right now i'm a bit scared to install custom rom on it, but i got a question:
In rom manager, when i go to the download section, i see a rom called Roalex, is that a good one?
The top one on that is called: COS-DS-071822011_I1? SO if i click install on that will it be a good one?
