like what?

Like what steps you have done so far? You can't just say "hey it don't work, how do I fix it"?

That's because the kernel isn't compatible with a 2.x radio.
Why would you want a hero rom on a dream?

2nd that. They all suck. Pretty to look at, but dont expect anything to work fast. Even with all the tweaking and tryin all the sense roms, there is no hope. The dream is under powered hardware wise, so stick with an eclair ROM for the best daily use and prettiness.

Can I remove all of Sense UI?

Hey guys, sorry for the n00b question, but after searching briefly, I couldn't find it anywhere else on the Hero forums. I am running Damageless non-expresso, and I wanted to know: Is there a way for me to remove ALL of sense ui? If HTC made it, I don't want it. I know, I know, should have gotten the moment, but I don't trust hardware keyboards after 3 terrible experiences with the Touch Pro. I have already found out how to get rid of Sense UI, but the thread said that it left "the HTC Dialer and HTC Customizations." I just want stock android 2.1 with the .29 kernel. What can I do? Is there another ROM I can get instead? Thanks.
Get Darch's AOSP ROM. I don't know if it has the latest kernel yet, but it is Sense-free.
Thanks, but...

Is there then a way for me to update the ROM to get the Camera working?

I think darch ran into some problems with the .29 kernel. either wait for him to give it a shot or take a stab at getting it going. Stripping sense out of a Rom would be a total pain to do at best.
Okay.
Thanks for the help and info. Will do.

It REALLY depends on the ROM. If possible, ask the developer before you try to flash it. Which ROM do you want to use that's meant for the G1?
Well right now i'm trying to just find a really good ROM based for a MT3G really. I dont like froyo as it always seems to drop service ideally i'd like to use a eclair or sense based ROM really.

android 2.3 hacked evo rom on a dhd

I noticed that the guys in the evo section have a dev/test only 2.3 rom compiled from reverse engineering off the 2.3 sdk. They have already got most of the functions to work, all a bit buggy but cool all the same. I was wondering if I were to flash a evo rom onto my DHD and it didnt work would I still be able to use clockworkmod and reflash my nand backup off sc card?
Or am I just crazy to even think of trying?

I also noticed while rooting/updating my mates Sony Ericsson X10 that there is a sdk dump of 2.3 available. Doesnt really work but still nice to check it out
Anyone willing to do a sdk dump or point me in the direction of how to do it
Ok i attempted to flash the evo 2.3 rom on my DHD.
Didnt work, guess it is because wrong kernal.
Am I the only person who would like to see a skd port of 2.3?
Just to check out, obviously would not run well enough to use as daily rom.
If any1 can point me in the right direction I would love to learn how to port/compile over from a sdk.
I'm as eager as you are! I want a tasty gingerbread
But i'd suggest you wait until a rom is released SPECIFICALLY for your phone...jumping ahead can result in great losses...i'm sure you don't want a £450 paperweight
And trust me, time will fly, before you know it some smart XDA Chef will have released an optimised rom just for our shiny Desire HDs!

I strongly suggest that you don't do this roms must be device specific

[REQ] Legend to Slide Froyo AND sense?

Since the HTC legend recently got Android 2.2 Froyo w/ sense, is there going to be someone to port the rom to the Slide?
I love the functionality of sense but I don't want to have to downgrade to eclair to get it.
So if anybody knows about work being done on that or if someone wants to volunteer, please inform me and anyone else who passes by this thread
Its gonna have the same problems as the 3rd sense rom because we don't have the official 2.2 kernel for mytouch slide! Which means I don't think anyone is going to port it! Check out 3rd sense though its stable enough and is the same sense ui

yep, and actually i think 3rd sense is based on a froyo sense rom for the legend called gratiend so thats your rom right there, at least thats what the credits on the thread say..
I am currently running cyanogen mod 6.1 stable for my slide with clockwork recovery. Do I need to flash/install anything else before flashing this rom?

Nope, all you need to do is a wipe before installing it so you dont get any weird errors
Okay thanks I will flash it, froyo aside, are there any REALLY good stable sense roms out there? Not espresso roms but original HTC sense? flash would be nice

this one has flash lite as well... and as far i know this is the best sense based rom you can find for the slide go ahead try it and tell us what you think
Oh man it works amazingly, I had to disable javascript for the browser to run alright though. Otherwise it is an amazing rom. I ran into some less than polite stuff when I posted in the thread, but I suppose I am a noob. Thanks for the suggestion.

[Q] Android 2.2 and Sense

I have not been following the custom roms news very closely these last few months.
I understand there is very few roms that combine Froyo (or later) and Sense (whithout which I don't enjoy the Hero that much) but which solutions exist?
Alternatively, is there a UI really close to HTC's with a recent Android version?
I was refering to that article: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/froyo-with-htc-sense-coming-to-the-htc-hero/
As far as i know, the android 2.2 version (froyo) with sense isn't so good for the moment, since nobody made a full working camera and other stuff
You have to wait for somebody to make the libs work...but if you want to experience sense 3.5 (since it's the latest) i recommend a new phone...since the Hero is to damn old
BTW: guys are working on a ICS ROM but for the moment we just have to wait for a stable release...and it seems that a lot of phones don't have a working camera... but don't be sure that the Hero will run ICS as a every day use.

What good alternative to Seense is there then?

The best option for a STABLE AND FAST phone is the 2.1 version that was relesed these days:
Link HERE
You can use it without any problems Everything works
Stefan
I guess I could give it a try.
Thanks.
I tried ]Decked_X that includes joins CM7 with android 2.3.7 and Sense UI. It's very fast and stable, but only support English language.

If it's CM7 run CM7 stock and if it's Sense UI you run Sense UI...this is my personal taste
2 things combined aren't so good looking... I haven't tried the ROM but if i have time, i'll give it a spin

no need for goldcards or things like that...
1. Root the phone via universal Androot
2.Install Rom Manager from market -> it install clockwork mode on the hero
3.Start Flashing
4.Enjoy
PS: i'm not responsable if you do anything wrong...It should be easy tho...

Failed! No~~~Fu goo~~~ on my Orange Hero
Z4root tells me the temporary root worked but OverclockWidget (for instance) doesn't work.
The permanent root (of Z4root, still) seems to work, I have some su requests with some apps but Rom toolbox doesn't work.
Hi!
Elelinux 2.1 rom is also very stable and fast. You could give it a try.
Yes, it is! I like that!
For newer ROM with sense You can try WildHerocRC4.
