the froyo web browser finally has flash. but many of the websites that have flash that we wanna see on our phones have mobile versions. therefor we cant access the full website to take advantage of the flash content. froyo does not come with a user agent faker like CM does, so is there any way to manually change the user agent in froyo? this is really bugging me.

All my webpages are showing in mobile view. I have looked all through the settings and cannot find the option to make everything show up like I am on a PC.
Does anyone know if this can be done, I have been able to do this on my previous HTC phones. I have loaded Dolphin Browser HD and Xscope but they still both also show some pages in mobile view.
Thanks.
I have the same problem
I've tried every thing to and it won't disable mobile views anyone have ideas
After playing with different settings in multiple browsers, if you download xscope browser and tell it your an ipad it makes everything show up correctly. I tried desktop view in that browser but some things still came up as mobile view.
Egads, this is my #1 annoyance. although this is a Google thing and not Samsung, per se. HTC Sense however has an option in the browser settings to disable mobile view pages from coming up (doesn't disable WAP capability though so you can still open a wap page manually).
i tried the manual method where you enter that debug command in the address bar and then go into the settings where you can change it from mobile to desktop (and iphone lol) views and other phones the 'desktop' view takes care of it, but i tried it on the Vibrant and then it renders the browser unusable until you reset the browser.
I came to this site to post about this but someone beat me to it. I hope there is a solution out there. I also think its really stupid that these websites think they need to show android phones their mobile views.
Maybe someone can push one of the other ROM's browser .apk to this phone. The browser on the rom I'm using has an option in the settings to change your User Agent.
Hey guys/gals, try something out for me (I don't have a V so I can't)
Open up your stock browser.
Type “about:debug” in the address line and press enter. (No quotations)
Hit “menu” and then select “Settings.”
You should now see all kind's of debugging settings including "UA String"
Click that and select "Desktop"
Let us know if it worked
Thanks!
Doesn't do anything.

AFter typing about:debug in the browser address window you have to press menu, then settings and then go down to the bottom and look for UAstring. That is how it works on the Nexus. I don't have a Vibrant yet either but it is on the way.

May be Sammy did something to the Browser app... can we get few more confirmations that it in fact does not work?
Other solution could be to rip out Browser.apk out of CM 2.1 rom and try installing or ADB pushing it to the system.

So I did this and got it to work. Clicked UA string and selected desktop. Now my browser force closes repeatedly and I can not get it open. Please tell me how to undo what I did.
Thanks

How do you reset the browser? Ugh
After changing my UAString to Desktop, Browser did nothing but FC on start, I had to push a default version of Browser back to the phone and reset the settings.

Since I'm not using ADB, I used terminal to copy the Browser.apk from the Vibrant dump.
install busybox
cp /sdcard/Browser.apk /system/app/Browser.apk
reboot

Haha. Don't really want to do that. Maybe it is time to root.
I suppose. Idk, coming from the Mytouch, I'm used to wiping and formating and reinstalling and wiping and resetting things so many times testing the new roms that I'm used to it. May wanna try Titanium Backup first, I suppose.
so far i have tested this on two different froyo build browsers and they both work
in the address bar type about:useragent theres a couple different things you can change it to
i also have a stock browser that i modified with a bigger apn file and it just seems to work all around better.

Got a sec to try grooveshark.com? Can't get a desktop browser agent string at the moment...

When I started loading a video Hulu said it is not supported on this platform.
I don't think it is a browser issue... what player does Hulu use?
Mine continues to go back to custom after I leave the menu. Still being sent to wap sites which is getting really annoying.

And what (if any) differences there are between this and the stock Samsung FroYo browser?
Also, I believe Hulu enforces viewing policy based on information it receives from Flash itself, not based on the browser user agent. Hence, different browsers/UAs shouldn't matter.
I can confirm that the "about:useragent" trick works on Cognition Beta 2.2 v9. Only problem is it doesn't persist if the browser is restarted. Still very useful though.

So jealous. Ive been wanting this fix just for southparkstudios and still isnt working for me.
So I'm running the stock ota that came on the phone perm rooted and oc. Now I'm sure most of u use dolphin browser cus the standered android browser will not let u change user agnets. So I downloaded dolphin so I could do this. For sites like ufc.com or spike tv both of witch u have to be on none mobile sites to watch episodes of TUF and other figts. As well as southparkstudios to watch episodes. Well neither of the sites have an option to switch to normal mode so I use dolphin and change my browser to desktop. Well wehn I do that and navigate to a page in dolphin it gives me the tmo tethering plan page everytime and I can not navigate away exactly like if u try to tehther and get the tmo page. Wtf is the point in adding flash player to ur os if u can't even go to non mobile sites.
You can change user agents in the stock browser. Just type about:debug in the search box in the browser, then go to settings. It's at the very bottom of the options list I believe. As far as trying to use desktop user agents on a mobile network, you obviously can't do that ^_^ Look for a "view desktop site" or "full site" option at the bottom of the page. Get mad at T-Mobile for not letting you do that, don't get mad at google.
I've always been able to use the desktop user agent in dolphin till they started sniffing user agents. And some site won't allow u to change to non mobile sites like I stated. Ufc.com southparkstudios.com. etc. I called tmo and they have no clue they were so confused wen I told them. Then I tried to explain how their sniffing out user agents and got even more confused.
Edit: what ur telling me to do in the stock browser about:debug is the same as changin my user agent in dolphin

I know this. I was just telling you that you could change user agents from the stock browser.
As for tmobile being clueless, I would personally spend all day on the phone with them, get to the higher ups who actually know what a user agent string is, and make sure they hear your complaint. If we get enough people to bother them we just might get them to remove the user agent check.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
It's weird because I'm tethering right now and all the sites you listed come up just fine for me.
Hmm well I was on stock rom having these issues I just no flashed cyan and changed my user agent to ie6 and its not doin it. Weird oh well cyan fixed it rite up=) I sttill have to changer my user agent to android in my chrome browser wen tethering

The only wish that I have with Honeycomb web browser is ability to change USER AGENT STRING. That's all I want.
I know, there is that about:debug trick, but it does not stick and we must do it again and again. Even does not work on certain website.
So, Google ... please please please add this!
Don't force me to use Dolphin
Is there anyway to edit the ".apk" and make it permanent change An idea for hacker with root.

My user agent string has never changed back, what are you talking about?
The reason some sites come up mobile is because they match on the word Android instead of mobile. Websites are to blame, not google in this case.
i swear Androidcentral took my blog story!

Create a book mark to about:config on your home screen. All you do is click the shortcut then hit the go button in the URL bar.
I tried with my Nexus S and browse to Facebook.com (full site).
It worked for a while, but then went back to Touch.Facebook.com.
Because of this, I am using Dolphin Mini which has option to browse as desktop browser. Problem solved.

On HC i used the stock browser almost exclusively. with the user agent set to desktop. on ICS, however, this seems to be missing. I noticed this on Flexreaper and Taboonay. i don't know if this is a OS thing or a ROM thing.
i'm actually having to revert to dolphin, which i don't like using on a tab, because its currently my best way of accessing the full version of the internet, not the neutered mobile version. i find the stock browser to have a much better UI, and faster on my tablet than dolphin, but the mobile sites are really starting to get to me.
does anyone have a way to let me set the stock ICS browser back to a desktop user agent?
thanks in advance

Have you tried ICS Browser + in the Play Store? It has the option for choosing an User Agent.
wonderful! thank you. i have a new default browser
EDIT: sadly its not compatible with Acer Print. aw well, i don't print very often anyways.
Quick ICS browser is also very good. A lot more customizable...
You can also type in the address bar "about:debug" (without quotes), go to settings -> debug -> UAString in the browser and change the user agent for the default browser. Once done making your advanced settings, type "about:debug" again and it will hide the advanced options while keeping those settings.
