Official 2.1 Update from sprint, but no longer rooted? - Hero CDMA General

I lost my root access once I did the official update from sprint. I tried to go through the process and root my phone again, however, it woudln't permit me too. Does anyone know how we can gain root access again with the new update?

There is now way to root once you RUU your phone with Sprint 2.1 update. This has been stated time & time again, please search in the future.

Buy and EVO seems that's what everybody else is doing!

Yeah, listen to markus. He loves the evo.

Let me guess....you didn't do any research before blindly flashing a ROM you know nothing about??? I bet next time you'll search before flashing...in the mean time, your SOL until one of the devs figure out how to root it....

If i could afford it id love it even more.

How does this happen? You go on a forum, you search for how to root, you figure all that out just fine.... and then you just blindly update without even thinking to search the forum?
Why?

Correct me if im wrong but i think they did it because the leak you had a week prior was rooted, they must of thought this one was too.

Fortunately for me, my job is paying for it. If not, I'd probably sell my Hero then pay the difference. That's what I did with my TP2.

But it says all over the forum-- like everywhere-- to not update from Sprint.
Isn't that what the OP did? I'm just surprised you can go through the whole process of rooting and not catch the part about not updating from Sprint.

Bummer...I got 2 for $99 at Best Buy in Feb......Hell...I wasn't looking for a phone, my wife was....she wanted tv and internet on her phone. It was my birthday and we went to Best Buy just to look around and she was looking at phones and decided to get the hero, so the salesman asked me if I wanted a phone and I told him no, I was happy with the one I had. He said, how about if it was free?? Well, next thing you know, we both had Heros.....2 weeks later I rooted my phone and the rest is history. The wife wouldn't let me root hers but I just updated hers to the official 2.1 and she loves it...still won't let me root it....

Sprint already called me a few weeks ago trying to sell me a 3rd line of service and said i could get the EVO. I didn't need 3 lines so i passed. Im due for an upgrade in november anyways so ill see if there is a decent price drop or if a better droid phone comes along.

So you ordered a phone, and initially thought it never came. Then you called and said, "Hey, where's that phone?" They said, "Sorry. We'll send another one."
Now you are basically saying, "Thanks AT&T for being so helpful and sending me a replacement phone. Now that you were so helpful, I will keep both phones and really give you the shaft for being honest."
Having two phones, you now wonder if you can get in trouble. Well, let me put it this way: if AT&T was to find out you have both phones, they might think you lied to them in an attempt to steal a phone from them. Most people and most businesses wouldn't respond too well to this.
The ethical thing to do is exactly what your question asks when reading between the lines: Should I keep what doesn't belong to me?
If you have to ask, you probably already know the answer.
Whatever...I worked for at&t for a year...nothing ethical about that company. I say keep it and be happy.
Answer is yes they could find out whos SIM is in the phone with that IMEI... Unless you use that program floating around and change the IMEI haha.

"More like a wat if"?
Strange, because you've offered to sell this phone to another member here already. You might want to get your story straight before Mark comes knocking on your door looking for his "kickback".
Isn't that like stealing more than half a thousand dollars?
I mean, Don't get me wrong, but you could let them know you moved, so they can send the phone to the right place.

You're probably right. But at the same time, is it worth the trouble and worry? Even if AT&T isn't ethical, does that mean you shouldn't? It's all about how you want to live your life.

[Q] ROOT?

I love my Evo. Main reason? Personalization, flashing custom roms, flashing fonts, etc. My knowledge of development ain't that great though and I'm wondering from those "in the know": Do you think we'll access root and be able to flash custom roms?
For me, this is the best tablet b/c it runs android. I don't mind the price, I just want to be able to do what I want to the device Opinions?
I wouldn't doubt it. In fact, I expect it. I don't think there are any android devices that haven't been rooted. Just have to give it time once it's released.

Whats the deal with the locked bootloader on some Moto devices? I hear the term but I'm not familiar with what it means (EVO owner). I assumed it had to do with not being able flash ROM's and/or root. Can anybody explain?

That's about all it is. They shut down any access to the loader which means you can get around to install anything. Most of motos new phones are this way. Its a kick in the nards but it protects their hardware from stuff like overclocking and burning out stuff. And of course the occasional brick.
I hate it but I see the point. And I can see the xoom being locked....little expensive for them to have to keep taking back because a new rooter f'ed theirs up.
Hmmm. Though I don't see custom ROMs being as necessary, that actually gives me a touch of pause. I don't like to think that the life of the device can't be extended if Motorola created a XOOM 2 or something.

I don't think the hardware spec as is will get outdated anytime soon.
Well..outdated yes, regress into unusable for web, video and apps.. certainly not.
The device per the data sheet will still run things quite well as we know them now for a very long time.
Only thing yet to be really proven is how teg2 can handle intensive 3d functions in 'real world' scenarios.. and if you think Crysis will be better played on a tablet I have a bridge for sale.

I know the hardware won't be outdated, I'm talking about all the obsolete android phones because their OEMs abandoned them and they never got FroYo. I think if it ends up being locked down I might have to utilize Best Buy's new return policy on the 28th day.
The Atrix has already been rooted:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/19/motorola-atrix-4g-already-rooted-and-its-not-even-out-yet/
I wouldn't be shock if Motorola backs off the boot loader block. Pretty funny huh. I was talking to the guys in best buy mobile and they claimed it was verizon that was locking down the boot loaders. Of course these are the same guys who were shocked when I told them I had a OC nook color w/ froyo and honeycomb.

Shame on you for talking to BB employees about anything technical. No hate, but most of them are morons.
It just makes me laugh when I talk to people like that. Being an electronics technician I do it sometimes just to see what chunks of stupid come out of their mouths.
Since the Xoom is intended to be the reference development tablet platform by Google, it should be easy to root and has an easy to unlock bootloader, just like the Nexus One and Nexus S.
That being said, Motorola is Motorola... so they may do their usual Motorola thing and encrypt everything up. But I think the chance that the Xoom is easy to mess around with is pretty high.

Same with me. Infact im not even sure im going to get the damn thing. They were so unorganized and unprepared. I NEVER go on websites and do the ratings but for this i did. It was a horrible experience trying to get this thing pre ordered. 3 of the techs had to talk to each other to figure out what i was asking for. I didnt think the statement "i would like to pre order the motorola xoom" was all that confusing. I never shop at best buy but being as inpatient as i am i took the risk to get my hands on this thing as fast as possible. I just hope i get a call once they come in. As it looked im going to be the only call they have to make.
Did anyone else get a copy of their preorder or just a receipt?

Thats all i have also. The confusion among the techs had me skeptical. Hopefully my skepticism doesnt hold to be true.
Also praying for no locked bootloader. Hoping to be rooted within the first few days
All I got was the receipt and the gift card as well. Got to our BB ~1300 to place the order and was the first to actually place an order, as opposed to people asking questions about it. Course our BB is in a town of ~50,000 (metro area ~150,000) so I was a little concerned they would even get any in for Thursday, they say they are indeed due in this week.
Did see the preorder paperwork she filled out.
Like above, they didn't know what they were looking for. The girl found it without too much wait though.

I was on the Boost network for over 3 years. I only switched to Sprint to get the EVO and because I am on a Employee discount plan.
You can not call up Boost and say, I have an EVO here is my ESN. I guess that might be unethical, but thats debateable. You simple do not tell them what kind of phone it is. Once you have established service with Boost, with one of their own phones. A person might call up, tell the Boost CR that their old phone broke, and that they acquired a replacement phone. Simply tell then the ESN number, they will type it in, some CRs will notice its a Sprint phone and send you on your way without adding it, others will not and they will add it. Some phones will work, others will not, I do not know why.
As to why the hacking and such, I think there are people out there looking to make a buck. Some people will pay anywhere between 50-100 to get this done. I did it myself by simply calling. My phone was never cloned, nor did the ESN go bad. Like I said, I was able to put my TP2 back to Sprint when I switched back. I originally bought the TP2 off ebay with a clean ESN.
* About the hack or Boost systems, well I would guess, there might be a few rogue Boost CRs who do this on the side for a fee. Therefore, implying there are hacks that need to be done in order to charge.

Just a quick question. In 20 days my Continuum will be retiring, and I will be moving to the Droid Dna. When I go to upgrade my phone should I first unroot and flash back to stock froyo so they dont notice I messed with the devise and it isnt running one of their roms? Or do they not care. I just want to make sure that I can get my phone. Also do they even need me to bring my continuum when I upgrade or anything?
If you are upgrading and paying for the new phone... Even if it's discounted with a new contract... Then the continuum is yours to keep... You paid for it, so it's yours! Congrats! You will have a new phone and a "let's see what I can do to this thing cause it doesn't matter if I nuke it" phone!

Obviously im going to be less cautious with it when it comes to playing around with it, but I dont want to break it in case something happens to my Dna and I need to go back. But after January 20th this phone will be retired.
