I have had about 4 HD2'S already until this one (4th) other 3 with alot of problems
I noticed the reset button on the Back under the battery cover next to SD card is yellow not red like the other 3 i have had.
My girl friend has had 3 HD2's since all Red buttoned nothing but problems, same goes with 2 people at work Red reset button and nothing but problems.
What color do you have?
Do you have any issues with the One having the red reset button?
Has me thinking????????
Glad i have a Yellow button lol
I have a yellow. I haven't had any problems besides the phone refusing to wake up once. And, once, it totally send a SMS to a different person. As in, in the thread I intended it for, the person never got it, but some other random person did. Man, was that awkward. I was totally talking about something full-retard to something else and it sends it to this girl. Thanks, HD2.
I've got a red reset button, and no problems. They changed from red to yellow because people were confusing it with a moisture indicator. They saw the red and on moisture indicators that means moisture damage. So they changed it to yellow so theres no confusion. I don't think theres any other hardware difference. The yellow ones may have newer rom version, though, since they are newer. But once you flash it, it doesn't make a difference.
Mine has red since i bought first day it came out... It used to freeze lot untill i flashed "ship" stock, which can be found here, since then my phone is working smoothly except for horrable the 3g connection and the music tap is to slow (i guess because I have to many songs).
Yellow here, never a glitch. runs like a champ and battery last about 2 days or so.
Yellow, originial stock ROM....zero issues.
Interesting supposition. I have a yellow button, and stock ROM. Only noticeable problem is that occasionally the phone will just be lying there and switch itself to an application ... without being touched.
Red
Red. No Problems, Stock Rom. I don't think having different colored reset button changes anything. Its the same hardware and same ROM version... But I guess whatever makes you happy. If having yellow solves your problems then yellow it is. lol..
Yellow, 2.13 ROM, no problems...save for the recent battery drain since ROM upgrade (I think)
I have a red button, and my wife has a yellow. I've had problems with freezing, usually when trying to wakeup the phone after the backlight has automatically shut down. The phone buttons will light up, but the screen stays black, necessitating a battery removal and restart. My wife has had none of these problems.
I've been running stock and was hopeful the new ROM update (2.13) would be the cure, but the problem continued. Tried a new class 6 SD card, disable sense timeouts, clear ram, etc...
Finally decided to flash a custom ROM, chose Dutty's and have been stable so far...
Perhaps the yellow/red button does have some meaning, but the problem is with a small sample of various forum users, the sample pool is not really big enough to know for sure.
Red button, stock 2.10 rom, not really a lot of problems... Usual glitches, like an app that I didn't press might start. Or won't wake up from lockscreen. But runs pretty well for me.
red = made in Taiwan, yellow = made in China....Maybe??? Look under battery
Bought TMOUS version on release day, and 1st one was bad, kept crashing & locking up. Sent it back for replacement (wirefly.com) and I've had the 2nd one ever since, red button, and it's working fine, aside from the various known build issues.
i have just brought t-mobile hd2 from ebay
and from my research i have found out that hd2 with yellow colour reset had lot of problem with the screen digitizer and htc later made some hardware changes and all the phone released later are of red colour.
so red colour hd2 has less screen problems

If that were true, why do all of us who bought TMOUS on the first day have red reset buttons? RED no problems.

Hi,
On my TyTN the scren just fades out to white frequently when for instance typing something, just happens in the middle of using the hermes, I have used many of the various WM6 builds, and mostly Black Editions, I noticed thsi isssue after I had upgraded to Black 3.01 firstly, now yesterday I flashed to Black IV Shadow, and now it does it much more frequently than before....I wonder if it could be hardware related or is it a known bug in the Black releases ?
When this happens I must press the power button several times and all of a sudden the screeen comes back to normal again. Sometimes even a hardreset is the only solution.
Was thinking of going back to the orginal WM5 ROM just to see if it helps any, or maybe I should send it in to repair center as it still is under warranty (apart from me upgrading to various dev builds that is )
Any inputs very welcome.
thx / fahlis
HTC TyTN
WM6 Black IV Shadow
Used to happen to me using the original ROM. It appeared to happen as the machine got hot which tended to be while it was charging and I was using it.
I did a warranty replacement, and hadn't had the problem since (months).
Still on original factory ROM.
Started happening to me yesterday. Called Cingular and they wanted me to do a hard reset etc. I didn't tell them I had a cooked ROM. I knew it was a hardware issue. Just got my new phone today. Downloaded the new ATT build. Installed no problem. Shipping it back to them tomorrow.
Sorry guys. There are existing threads on the fading to white issue. Please use the Search XDA using Google sticky thread near the top of the messages queue.

Hi,
I bought my TyTN 6 months ago. I upgraded it to WM 6 from HTC update and and few weeks later during wirting a text message my screen went white and I couldn't do nothing. I restarted it after 15 minutes and I discovered that all data is gone. I got plain OS.
From that time the situation was accuring again, but after few seconds it was working ok and white screen was disapearing. I was using different OS versions, as well as Shap's form 3.54 up to 4.31 but it on every the situation become the same.
I contacted with HTC but still i didn't get any reply. Any idea what the problem could be? Is it the screen? Please help...

It's probably flex cable problem. There's been a few issues this type.

Do You know is it possible to fix it and if YES how to do this?
im having the same problem with my softbank xo1ht. if i hard reset screen returns but after about 15-30 mins screen fades to white and i cant see anything or use any function??? please advise
My screen was going white like for almost a week (coincidentally after going through airport security xray). I called for a warranty replacement and wouldn't you know it, after I called I have yet to see the white screen on the old one.
Are your hard buttons (d-pad, answer, hang up, mail, IE) failing as well? Try pushing down on your device right under the bottom right of the screen and see if it'll turn white.. or put it in standbay and press down above your d-pad and then take it out of standby and see if that fixes it..
your probably running into a hardware problem which is discussed here:

Hello everybody,
After flashing an Elfin Rom to my Elf, my Elf stuck at there colors screen. Vodafone-Shop was quite helpful and they sent me a new Elf
I have been using the new Elf for about 3 weeks and for the third time (happens almost one time in a week), my Elf does not recognize, that i press the power button. If the display was off, i see that the led blinks and even the long pressing of the power button does not change anything. The only solution was a soft reset. Today i lived it again, but this time the display was on and it did not turn off. Holding the power button for a few seconds and restarting was the solution.
Has anyone the same problem or any ideas why it can happen?
Thanks in advance...
Erkan
On my HTC Touch (P3451) I have the same problem: The phone randomly freezes in such a way that I have to do a soft reset. Also, when the phone is on stand-by, when I press the On/Off button (to turn the screen on) nothing happens... neither if I press any of the other buttons (green, red or camera),despite of this, the green led of the top still blinks... Some other times, it justs restarts by it's own, no matter what I'm doing (a few time during today screen, some other using office, a couple listening tu music, and a lot of times when it was on stand by in my pocket).
Also, the phone loses the cellular signal very often (I don't know if that is related to the freezing problem).
I've tried doing a hard reset an using it without any 3rd party programs installes, but the problem persist.
I tried taking it to the vendor in Lima (where I live), but they say that because thre's a small scratch on the case, the warranty is void...
I don't know what to do about this... Any suggestions? please?
This is a hardware problem, This problem is associated with faulty motherboard, and suddenly, in a few days you will notice that phone will stop getting power on, it generally happens when phone falls on hard surface from a height, may due some dislocation of micro soldering. Its better you report to service centre, if the phone the phone is in warranty, they will replace motherboard free of cost, only issue is your device IMEI number will change with motherboard replacement.
i think the problem was something to do with the software. i flashed the Junior version of Onyx ROM with Windows Mobile 6.1 to my Elf, which has YouTube and GoogleEarth preinstalled and is memory-friendly at the same time. Now my Elf does not freez anymore.
I think it's a software problem.
I flashed a lot of ROMs in my Elf but, after a flash version 3.1.1 of really great Onyx Sr., the phone starts to have a bad behavior. It's freeze a lot and the green led still blinks.
I will try to use normal light off and shutdown method instead of using ShutXP to try. But it's definitely a software problem.

HI marcosvafg,
i have done the same like you, marcosvafg. but unfortunately my touch is lost in black-screen-smart-moblity-screen-space. can you give me a detailed description what you have done to restart your mobile phone?
i did this:
- go into bootloader
- start to install new rom
but every rom i used i got an error (image is corrupted, wrong model ID). which rom did you use?
many thanks
alex0123
I had a problem where my Elf started freezing almost after me entering the PIN. It is true that it got a rough drop just before doing it, but no serious damage was done to its skin.
I got it to the company and they changed the motherboard free of charge.
Hi guys,
i think gagandeepbains is right that this is a hardware problem. Because i lived it many times with some other cooked ROMs, and i can say that it is happening mostly when the temperature in the environment is low. maybe it is a reason, why this happens usually, when leaving the mobile on overnight...
after flashing my original ROM, i"ll give it back to Vodafone and ask for a change.
for you all, if you still have warranty, bring those back (and who knows, maybe you get an ELFIN instead of an ELF).
the same thing happened to my elf when i first got it back in august last year.
was a hardware problem, orange UK sent it to HTC for repair and i got it back 3 weeks later with a new motherboard in the phone,
also got a surprise to find that they had also upgraded the memory.
i sent in an elf and got an elfin back.
i thought that was a nice surprise
alright.
but to make sure, you can always upgrade to 03.21.90 radio.
thats the most stable one.
I had the same problem but with coocked roms (rarely with the original one)
early onyx roms had a bug with ELF but not in new roms
If still in warrenty try to change it again
I got a question. I have noticed that multiple times when my phone is less than 10% battery life, it will start freezing on me. The screen will freeze. Has anybody else experienced this??? Particularly when Im using Opera 9.7
idk its weird. I just plugged my phone back in and started using Opera without a hitch.
(I've only dropped below 10% about 10 times.)
I haven't noticed any issues with low battery. The only annoyance is that it will disconnect my bluetooth headset once it drops down to 10%. I am using stock software except for CHT and Bsbtweaks.
Oh. Maybe it just has to do with Opera and the battery then???
Both of my original Units did this. Got replacements with the new yellow reset button under the battery cover and they are good now.
What is the difference between units with a yellow reset button and a red reset button? I just received a replacement unit in the mail and has the yellow. I was told it would be a new phone. Does a yellow button indicate a refurbished unit?

I have read a few times people refer to the Buttons. I am thinking the red button was in the very first round of HD2s and I am thinking that batch contained a system bugs. The ones with the yellow buttons are updated I think so people are having less issue with those phones. Mine has the yellow and dont have most of the problems other people have

I just bought a brand new one yesterday, from a Tmobile corporate store, hadn't been off the UPS truck for more than 30 minutes, and it had the yellow reset button in it.

People can speculate all they want on forums about why HTC decided to change something so insignificant... when realisitically the only reason for that change was to make the soft reset button more visible to the naked-eye.
There is no such "upgraded" unit. Companies do not finance creating several "different models" of the same device for the same country. That would be a total legal fiasco.
Anyway, aside from all of that... I have the unit with a RED reset key, considering I had mine 4 days prior to the initial launch of the phone.
No issues, none at all.
Hi there
My HD2 has a red reset button but I have never heard of a difference between red or yellow reset buttons, and did not even know there were different button colours.
However, I am having the same problem where the unit hangs when the battery is slow.
(I have noticed that the phone would have two bars, but after the reset it would be on one bar)
I am still looking for a solution to this, and will post if I find one.
If you have in the mean time found a solution, please be so kind as to post it.
Many thanks
Deric
Is it a custom rom?
Did you tried power save mod, maybe in the power save mod phone is shuts down some advanced hardware resources!
So my screen has a colourisation problem - everything appears yellowish. I originally tought this was a contact issue, though now I'm not so sure.
I can sort of live with it, as I mainly use it to mess around with. Anyway, last night I took the phone back to stock, HSPL'd (2.08 iirc) installed a radio, installed cLK, then Clockworkmod, then Cyanogenmod. When I was messing around in CyanogenMod I noticed that the Google search widget flashed the right colour (White as opposed to yellow. On further inspection, I found that if i went into the browser and viewed the Page Info, the browser window turned white. I flashed back to the latest stock via SD card. I booted up into WinMo6.5 and the colour issue was still there. I went into the browser, pressed the menu button and sure enough, the window in the back ground when to the colours it should be. Anyone have any idea?
PS. I'll post a video this afternoon.
Hi, I had that problem 6 months ago. The screen turned yellowish sometimes but not always. I tried deinstalling & reinstalling stuff but it didn't help. Restarting the phone helped but for a short time. A few weeks later it went worse, blue horizontal lines started to appear now & then. I went back to the shop where I bought it for repair and 2-3 weeks later I had it back. They told me that the main circuit board had to be replaced.
So if you see the same blue lines appear, you know it's a hardware problem.
Hope this helps.
