I'm sorry to tell you this but you will not be able to remove any of those apps because they are baked as part of the ROM unless you flashed another ROM that the chef's cooked here that is the only way to remove them or if you know how to cook a ROM yourself.
This is what I did to remove the apps:
- Start up the application.
- Hopefully you are running and out-of-date version of the app. When they start up they will check for updated software.
- It will prompt you to download and install the updated software. Install the update.
- After installation is complete, close the app.
- Check the Remove Programs panel, it should now display the app(s) you just installed, allowing you to remove them.
Its a bit of work, but this method allowed me to get rid of most of the useless apps on the HD2.
I think you just have to delete the folder for the app to make it disappear. Haven't tried it myself but if you're never going to use it anyway, what's the harm?
Thanks to all...I will will try to run the program and check for updates...i updated my ROM to 2.13 hasnt made a difference tho...I will keep trying!
i deleted
you can delete them i deleted from the file explorer/totalcomander i did and i dont have the apps on my start menu anymore

Did you just delete the links from the "start menu" folder, or did you try removing the program files themselves?
That is the first thing I did when I got my phone... and the first thing I will do after installing the new rom. Plug it into your computer, explore it as you would any other external drive, and delete the entire folders.... there goes the apps you do not want....

It doesn't work with Opera.
I have deleted the B&N eReader, BlockBuster and MobiTV by just deleting the directories they were in. Also went into the Start Menu folder in the Windows folder and deleted their icons there so they don't show up in the Start Menu.
I have been unable to delete the Facebook application because the files are in the Windows directory and are read only.

But this doesn't guarantee you removed unwanted registry entries that can bog down your system.

You can do what Paten suggested and then take the final step of running memmaid, it has the ability to clean out reg entries orphaned by removed programs.

Have noticed that after installing a few apps lately and wanting to remove them, there doesnt seem to have the application names listed within the Remove Programs in settings!...All my currently installed applications are visible but only those that i've installed over the past few days are not. I've had to manually delete entries withing the registry and program files to physically get rid of them. Any ideas. Thanks and apologies if I've missed this in another thread.
Had a similar case... I've installed a few programs.... Then try to install a new one. Installation completed, working but not listed in the removing list... And when I get another one out, magic, it appears.... Strange...
funny you mention it, ive noticed this in the last few days aswell, never had any of em reappear, but i can see em listed in registry just not in Activesync add/remove or on remove progams on the device.
Yep same problem not all programs delete via activesync 4.1
I installed several programms and uninstalled them using activesync 4.1 ... they dont uninstall, even when i ensure that nothing is running or linked..
They dont uninstall from device itself either so I had to manually delete them its a nuisance.
Could someone tell me to cleanly uninstall worldmate pro2006 ? I keep getting unsuccesful uninstallation. pls help.

Maybe its running in the background when you uninstall it/ or if you have it there (installed) in the storage card it creates problems getting uninstalled.
Try to close the program fully By shutting it down from the Task manager..With the task manager open
Go to MENU>VIEW>CHANGE MODE
See if any instance of World mate is running there.
If you have partially uninstalled it, try reinstalling it and perform a reset.
Try to uninstall it by going to Add Remove Progs. in the phone.
If the problem persists, try removing it thru the Add remove progs. in the active sync.
All the best.
You are right jeasbe. I have installed my Worldmate to my storage card. I'm currently not using any task manager program. What would you recommend? Is memmaid one of these? I also tried uninstalling after the soft reset thing just to clean that worldmate was'nt running but to no avail of success in deleting it. Also looked at the running programs before deletion just to make sure it is not running. I even accidentally deleted the list from the rmove programs, and the program was still there. Is there any way to manually delete these files thru registry?

Literally Speaking the best method still would be to DELETE the folder from your \storage\Program Files\world mate (or whatever)
Then perform a fresh Install, this time in the Phone memory.
Then go for a soft reset.
Do not open World mate.
The world mate shall be there in the ADD REMOVE prog list By now.
Go to add-remove progs and perform a Remove.
Hopefully this shall delete the traces of world mate from your Phone.
U can manually delete the folder safely from ProgramFiles\world mate (from the phone memory this time)
Before U try anything stupid I suggest..Please do take a backup...
I take risks with my Data coz I have it spread over my other O2Xda as well as On My outlook....
All the Best
If I have to unistall some program I use the MemMaid. These program really erase what you want.
Thanks
Is there any way to make a given application run portably? Specifically, I want to be able to take a given app, install it to my SD card in such a way that I can back up the shortcuts and then the next time I flash a ROM or hard reset I have only to copy the shortcuts to my start menu folder and have the application work without further fuss.
As examples of some specific programs, in games I would like to be able to keep my save games and progress, my configuration for MortPlayer, etc.
Yep there is no reason why you can't do that. You might want to do some reading as most custom ROMs have either Sashimi or UC (User Customization).
I have some hundreds of portabilized winmo apps. Most of the apps I use don't need to be installed, including 100% of the games.
Normaly I install once, copy full folder to any other location, then uninstall, then try to run from this other location.
If the app run, you got it portable and only need to create new links in start menu.
If it don't, you could install again and try to find if there is a registry keys for the app, back up the key, copy the app to any other place, unistall the app, import reg key and try again.
If it don't work maybe it cop some files to windows or any other system folder...
To recover the new Start Menu links after flashing, you could use UC or sashimi as sugested previously.
Thanks. The ones I've tried so far haven't worked, just giving a message that it wasn't installed properly. I will keep trying some more.
Tried to use root explorer, but after reboot the file appeared again in system apps..
Tried to use terminal emulator that comes with CM 6.1, but got error message "cannot remove , because the folder is not empty" - something like that...
The apps I want to remove are: Maps, Navigation,E-mail,Voice Search,Talk and some others....
By the way, what I shouldn't delete? I mean the apps that can make problems with the system....
Appreciate any suggestions.
Most of those are Google apps so I wouldn't remove them in case you start getting non stop force close errors. If you wanted to remove the files, you would need to have AUFS. Search for it.

hey man,
listen maybe you know what can be a problem with bluetooth in cm 6.1.

If U can't remove the apps from /system/app then you probably do not have S-OFF - what does recovery screen say? ..
I have the same issue here on my Legend since it is running hboot 1.01.. darn!
But anyway, you can use android kitchen to mod a ROM .. works nice Link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
Why don't you use an easier method of getting rid of unwanted applications? You can use Titanium Backup, it has a nice exploit discovered by Paul O'Brien from Modaco (more details about it HERE, but if you have CM 6.1 already you are rooted and need only Titanium Back that is already included in CM 6.1 ROM as far as I remember). You just have to go to the apps list, long press on it and from the popup select last option to remove the application.
For BT transfers, look in the Market after an application called Bluetooth File Transfer.

Where are Metro Apps Installed. I know there is a folder in Program Files\WindowsApps but Are they User related or System Related? Or they are like Preinstalled and get installed on new account creation?
Also I see a lot of folder of the same Apps with different versions. Is it safe to remove older versions (folders)?

Apps are indeed placed in "Program Files\WindowsApps"(all apps) I have removed the older versions with no noticable issues. To delete a current App, simply flick up on the app tile, (be it on the start menu, or in all apps) and select "uninstall". Note that this will only uninstall the latest version of the app. You will still have to go to "Program Files\WindowsApps" to delete any prior versions.
Ok with that, thanks. But I uninstalled and want them back, how can I reinstalled without Store? BTW I'm using PC, not tablet.
Sent from Sony Xperia Live with Walkman
Ummm... you can't reinstall them without the Store. The store is how you install apps... that's the point of it.

OK, and why the heck the older versions are leftover? they use unnecessary space.
The original versions of the built-in apps persist so that any newly-created user accounts will be able to install those apps. Additionally, if you already have multiple user accounts on your system, but they have different versions of an app installed (for example, because they were never updated on the other accounts), the leftover versions will be present as well. There may be some other circumstances where old app versions stick around, too... it's not fully understood. Bear in mind that sometimes empty folders will stick around, consuming trivial space but appearing at a glance to indicate entire apps left behind.
Mind you, this has all been discussed before. Please search before posting.
