[SOLVED] TF3D CFC Compression - How do I? - Windows Mobile

I have been reading in various custom roms that they have "cfc compression". I have been cooking my own personal roms for a while and would like to compress my manila files also. Can anyone give me some info or links on how to do it? Any help would be very appreciated.

It's probably best to have folks post link to other resources for the moment so as to allow NRG to collect, review, and organize them in some order. That said, I agree that we shouldn't allow the thread to grow to a point that it contains too many pages.

I wish I could have found this a few months ago ....
Anyways, here are my two cents on this:
This is a fantastic idea since information is scattered throughout the site when it comes to cooking instructions. There is no single guide on how to do this and most people have different takes on how to do certain things. Having a centralized cooking resource (sub-forum) is by far the best idea I have seen in xda in the last couple of years.
Now, there is one other thing. I know that most of the information posted is for newer devices (meaning any device whose rom extension is nbh. I personally have a Blue Angel, which has roms with extension nbf. Cooking for these devices is a completely different story since porting is different as well. I will add a few links that I found along the way for cooking nbf roms, but if any of you have any good guides about this, please share them
All in all, NRG, you have outdone yourself once again!
Congrats and let me know if I can be of any help!
Dotcompt's EXT collection
Hi guys
Regarding Dotcompt's EXT collection kindly posted by NRGZ28 in the first post:
I have extended these Leaked exts to other devices resolution like HVGA or QVGA instead of WVGA only.
So for a start, I added the HVGA - Photon EXT EastEurope_1.06.479.2_Manila_Core_2_5_20131825_0, and you can find it in the original thread.
I also asked Daveshaw to move this thread from Rhodium sub-forum to the Windows Mobile Development and Hacking > Windows Mobile Software Development forum.
Thanks
Great!!
But can you point me on QVGA version one? i cant find any QVGA in you thread.
Thanks.

Here's a link to the Extendir thread. Even if you don't want to use (I don't use it myself), it's very good reading, and has a lot of great info. The thread itself should probably be moved over to this forum. It might cut down on the noobs who periodically poke their heads in and ask for a .cab.

Great work going on here, let me know if i can be of some help here, collating, moving and deleting etc.

+1 on this.
PRO's/CON's can be easily worded such that it isn't considered a personal attack.
I would rather know about the CON's and how to work-around them than spend hours in trial-and-error. If a member decides to select a certain kitchen, at least they know what they are "getting into".

Thanks hilaireg, I might have to bother you regarding the extra posts if this grows as much as I fear it will .
As far as the pro/cons... well, we could do this in such a way that only people who have used the kitchens in question can post them in this thread, so they can give their points of view. I personally have had time to play with 3 of the kitchens that I have posted and used a few tools of another one, but I guess I can add this to the first post and you guys let me know what you think:
"If you are going to post a kitchen in this thread, please be kind enough to give your opinions on it (likes, dislikes, hard to use, buggy, best kitchen ever... well, you know what I mean). This way, new coming chefs will not have to go through the pain of trial and error"

Sous-Chef's Kitchen Utensils & Appliances Review
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651026
I use Visual Kitchen
I chose visual kitchen because that was what Da_G used and started me out on. Here are my thoughts:
_________PRO_________
- GUI interface to visually select/deselect packages
- Expandable with Programmable Extra Buttons to ease sorting and cooking stuff
- Allows users to select multiple builds, Lanuages, packages, etc using drop down boxes
- Save/Load configurations and settings
- Robust, Organized and Complete
_________CON_________
- File structure has to be intact or it will fail
- Have to know the building procedure to make sure custom files aren't overwritten
- Packages are in folders, so finding a specific file can be tedious
- Can be overwhelming and confusing to get it setup initially from scratch
I would recommend using this kitchen as it pretty nice. Now of course I say that without using any other kitchen to compare it to... but it does everything I need thus no need to look elsewhere.
_________TIPS_________
EXT folder = Packages (Games/HTC Apps/HTC Dialer/Etc). Additional apps outside of stock MS stuff
OEM folder = Phone specific stuff, OEM customizations, tweaks (usually left alone)
ROM folder = Basic building blocks for WM builds. Has basic device and WM drivers (MSXipKernel updated when SYS gets updated)
SYS folder = WM Build. Contains all the stuff that is stock MS products (updated to change to newer builds)
- Starting out as a new chef... I would suggest that you find a Fully working kitchen designed for your device that is fairly new and updated. Once you can create a working rom, you can then slowly start to expand it by adding more packages and features.
- Don't add too much at once. If you do, and it fails... you'll have to troubleshoot what you added and that can be tedious. It helps to add new packages in groups of 5... so you can test specific parts of the rom before continuing. You'll be surprised that 1 screwed up file can keep your kitchen from completing the building process. Keep that in mind.
- The "EXT" folder is optional and gets updated the most. OEM, ROM, and SYS folders are the only folders really required. Knowing this can allow you to build a very very basic stock Windows build designed for your device. If you have any problems building or flashing, try disabling all of the packages in the EXT folder. If your very very very basic rom still doesn't work... then your "base" kitchen is screwed up. This can be harder to fix.
- Make frequent backups of your "Base" kitchen in the event you screwed something up. I usually will remove the EXT folder and ZIP up the rest in an archive on a memory stick. I update my backup archives after a successful upgrade/edit/tweak of the "base".

Well, I am not a seasoned cooker but I have updated the polaris chef corner 1st post with my view of each kitchen. Please feel free to take the text if you find it interesting. Most of polaris kitchen's are 26016 EVK kitchens with old kernel, I guess based on gullum's kitchen the first one the share the polaris kitchen for wm6.5. Most of them are based on mega packages. There is one from amenatis based on leo packages but is not 100% completed in english since it is a french kitchen (however, is the one I used as the basis).
For the rest, there are a few other kitchens like vistangs but it seems ondraster kitchen is growing each day. The best one for me is TomAngel's Ondraster kitchen: like any Ondraster's kitchen it has an easy set up of splashscreen and this kinds of things and allows you to cook in several languages at a time. It also has a nice documentation of packages. Additionally TomAngel included a 6.5 native kernel that we are currently testing a few cookers in Polaris but that seems to work and my end with our recmodding hobby.
I personally like better EVK UI but I must say ondraster is also a good solution (and I have "stolen" the kernel from there). I would be glad to share my kitchen I use my own method of cooking shortcuts and tweaks with cmd and mortscript scripts both in the ppc and the pc, so my packages have no app.dat and no png and very few reg files.

How to reg-edit Cookies Home Tab, Sense

Hello.
I'm now on my second attempt at cooking roms and i've (i think) moved on a little from where i was.
I'm using OndraSters amazing visual kitchen.
I'm cooking 235653 XIP and SYS into a 1.75 Korean ROM using the packages from the new 02 1.72 ROM. I know this may not sound tough to some of you here, but it's taken me ages just to sus out a few simple things.
The position fix was fun as i'd never heard of it until i booted the ROM for the first time.
My question is, how do i go about cooking in cookies home tab? I turned the CABs in to an EXTs and i've seen a few tips about editing the registry before i cook it into the ROM, but how do i get it to look how i want on first boot?
My thoughts about ROMS in general is that i could add all cab/ext files i need and just export the reg file to be cooked in. I bet its not that simple, but any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your time

Adding HTC Sense to Custom Rom

Hi cookers!
I'm looking for a tutorial on how to add Sense to roms I've cooked.........
Is there in the forum or somewhere out there some kind of instructions?
Thanks a lot!!!
Hi,
Welcome to Chefs Central
Could you tell for what device you are cooking?
It's requested in the 'Welcome to chefs Central' anouncement here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=612
It's important because if people don't know what resolution your device is it's impossible to give you the correct answer.
Also some info about which kitchen you are using would help a lot.

Sorry
I'm cooking for the Xperia X1 with Ervius VK....... but I'm just trying the OSKitchen right now....
I'm trying to add Sense 2.5 to my roms (WM 6.5.5 build 23563 or 23568)
Allright so that's a wvga device, thank you
Do you know how to dump a rom?
If so dump the rom which contains the Manila you want to cook in.
After dumping search in dump for initflashfiles.dat and open this file with a text editor.
Search for all Manila entries and copy them in a new .txt document.
Save this document as app.dat to a location you remember.
Next copy all Manila packages into your kitchen.
app.dat you can copy to the Core package of Manila
Done

Ok man, offcourse some other packages are depended too but this is a good start.
Run through all the Manila entries of the corresponding packages in the app.dat you create and don't forget to add them all.
After that you can cook and check how everything works.
Probably you need to update a lot more packages but that's a case of trial and effort.
Other packages you probably need are:
StartIconLoader
Settings_Improvement
Contact_Utility_Engine
HTCFramework
Menu_Enhancement
Well that's just quesing, you need to find out yourself.
Before you start make a backup of your kitchen and then start updating the packages step by step and test.
A reminder, all the packages you add extra in your kitchen in most cases also have initflashfiles.dat entries, don't forget to check that.
You can do the same with them by placing a app.dat file in the package or adding the line to initflashfiles.dat in your kitchen.

Anybody knows if latest Manila files are the same for all devices?

[Q] Been at this a week now and need some assistance - Cooking in latest Manila

I have been trying all week to get the latest (or any v2.5) Manila integrated into my ROM. I am using the latest osKitchen. There has been a lot of trial & error but here's what I have done so far:
Import latest HTC WWE ROM - 1.56
Rebuild this ROM just to prove it works
Replace 6.1 Kernel with 6.5 Kernel found on here
Import a newer Windows Mobile Build
Build ROM to test it works with stock OEM drivers/apps etc
Add my own preferred applications & settings etc and rebuild
At this point I now have a working ROM with the apps & settings I need, however it has the stock Manila (TouchFLO 3?) that I would like to replace. I have downloaded LOTS of manila packages and tried including them in the build whilst excluding the stock 'Manila v1.3.37395.2' but each time there is a problem. Typically the device boots OK but locks up during the first boot customisation sequence.
I am assuming (hoping?) other people have followed a similar procedure and hit the same issues? I was hoping for some pointers as to how I get past this hurdle
Thanks, Andy
Maybe you should ask in Chef Central forum?

Been trawling through the Chef Central forum for a week...
There are lots of Manila threads but I can't find anything that matches my issue. Thought I'd try on the Native Blackstone forum
Only got the Blackstone last week - still have the Kaiser until I can get the ROM just as I want it. I'll update my signature
I can't believe that nobody has hit the same issues as me
The stock ROM that I imported simply doesn't have the correct packages or simplu cannot support the latest Manila so needs updating/replacing etc. I have searched and searched (and searched and searched...) but I am really struggling to find out what I need to add/remove/update from the stock ROM packages to get the latest Manila in my 6.5 ROM.
Anyone? Please?
i think you didnt search enough.
if you look to sticky thread there you can see a fully working kitchens.
i would say take a look at there.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=515824

If you really cant find anything

Thanks for that link Rambo. I honestly tried searching using different word combinations and could not find that thread
It has helped me somewhat however I am still struggling getting Manila 2.5 to work with osKitchen.
I have now resorted to using the whole of the HTC Leo EXT packages and then replacing/grafting in EXT packages from the original Blackstone dump. This is working but has various issues that need fixing.
I'll plod on....
Andy
it isnt that easy ha
if you need any help let us know.
or you can always ask questions in the chef central thread.
