HTC Incredible Source Code - Droid Incredible General

This is probably OLD news but I just got this message from HTC via Facebook about the kernel source code release. If this is old news I dont mind the mods deleting this.. just trying to help.
Incredible Source Code

I just saw this on twitter. I wonder why no one has mentioned it before today?

I think you must be referring to this:

Sounds like there is some potential there, but we will have to see if anyone can turn the overflow into something useful.
I just took that update yesterday too...lol
Problem is this news is three days old and nothing new has come of it. I'm skeptical that he ran into a roadblock.

This is my favorite thread title ever.
What update should we not go passed, I took the update for the exchange server fix, i am currently on 2.1-update1.
How do we stop taking updates? the last one went automatically for me

Not sure about this 'opportunity' but that update included a recovery update which could have patch a yet unknown/released bug.
I hate to give bad news, but I'm about 99% sure that the exploit is for the Droid Eris. He mentions leaks (there have been 3 leaks for the Eris) and this was first posted by Zifnab on the Eris forum the other day.
This MAY have provide some insight into a possible root method for the incredible, but, personally, I am not optimistic considering all of the time between releases, the newer kernel, etc.
Sorry everyone.
he does seem to be working mainly on the eris but the main reason i posted it was because he says in this thread that it should work on any HTC device that uses fastboot.
while i know squat about the area, i figured it was worth linking to.
This looks interesting and useful, even if the information is for the Eris the post says it would work on all HTC devices with fastboot.
All HTC devices come with fastboot so if this is real its most credible post to hit the forums for the incredible.

Head over to the XDA Eris section and talk to him about what he's doing.

Oh WOW!! That's great news. Hopefully MS will never know about this and start patching those stuff. The least I would want is to start the fight against firmware updates just like with the iPhone, being that it was the main reason I got out of the platform.

A bit hard don't you think when the info is now on two websites (posted link and here) and is sure to spread like wildfire to others!?!?
Great news though!
Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal!
please wait... it is not "official" yet...
Where's the poop robin?
No, but seriously, who's the source of all of these "info"?
the only quote there is of Da_G saying that's the security is tougher.
If this is true, then meaning of this info is only one:
Fully working Windows Phone 7 port on HD2 is possible!
THIS IS AWESOME! We're eagerly waiting for news, but please, do not spam boards again as it was couple days ago ;/.

MIUI english porting project is no more.

I posted this in the N1 forum but realised it applies to several platforms, so for those not reading there...
The main English porting for MIUI is no more, the site (www.miui-dev.com) is gone.
All the details are from the @MiuiDev twitter feed:
http://twitter.com/#!/miuidev
MIUI itself is still in development as usual by the original Chinese devs, the English translation has hit a major speedbump (brick wall?) with this however.
So if anyone comes across the cretins responsible for kicking this project squarely in the cojones, please repay the favour!
This upsets me so much! I hope there's some way to make a comeback...
and it's actually http://twitter.com/#!/miuiandroid where the news is.
It says the forums will remain active. =(
EDIT: Read wrong Twitter first. Boooooo.
is all that can be said, really.
That twitter account hasn't been updated in two weeks, WTF are you talking about?
http://miui.us
Ignore me... didn't read the right twitter post..
Sent from my flux capacitor at 88 MPH.
This will be a great loss for the android rom flashing community. For me Miui had the most polished user interface and experience I had ever seen in any rom. I liked it so much that the availability of this rom was going to be a deciding factor for when I buy a new phone.
According to the latest twitter post Miui english translations might be saved by PaulOBrien of MoDaCo. I do hope the translations continue!
miui isn't going anywhere. There was some falling out so some things happened, that twitter doesnt tell the full story.

The .us doesnt mean United States despite its logo, its a placeholder, the site most of the dev's will be using. I've seen the upcoming forum and there's an Desire section.
Just give them sometime there working on getting it all setup.
Just checked, site is back up. No forum yet.

Not true. All port devices are now on www.miui.us.
You can find all devices there.
What exactly happend? The community split into half, Marhuk with some help from PaulOBrian continues with miuiandroid.com and now miui.us pops out.
What started the argument between the developers that made it necessary to break the community in two?

Indeed, the new miui.us site has just popped up, the developers and that have always worked on it (atleast most of them) are using miuiandroid.com, if you checked the old site they said they where moving, and for a while the old site redirected you to the new one, until the old domain was shut down i guess

Atrix 2.3.3 in July?

Looks like Kenneth from Briefmobile has identified a release in July for the Atrix 4g. In addition, it appears, we won't be going straight to 2.3.4 after all. It'll start with 2.3.3.
For once, I think it would be nice to have the latest release on our Atrix, but I suppose that's a bit much to ask. Here's to hoping it's not a July 31 release date.

Thanks for the link.
AT&T only?
It took Australia 4 months to get the Atrix released here, I live in hope that it doesn't take Telstra/Motorola an extra 4 months to release the 2.3.3 update.
However, living in hope only leads to disappointment.
Too bad it's not 2.3.4... I really can't imagine there are enough changes in that version that it would take so long to put blur on it.
Means August or September for us on Bell. Maybe.
Sigh.
Well, they did say they planned to release Gingerbread to the Atrix for USA and Europe simultaneously............don't know if that included Canada lol

The discussion for this is already going on in Kenneths thread in the development forum where he announced this news in an update. Why create another thread to clutter things up when the owner of the information already updated it the day before you posted this???

A software release discussion is more beneficial to users here in the general section. Since I'm not a developer or have any interest in coding I don't spend any time there. It's not "cluttering" anything up.

I would disagree............all the good news comes from the developer forum, and if you don't read there, you will not learn anything, or have any root, sideloading, etc. because that's where everything is regarding that. Kenneths thread is open discussion about the impending updates, etc. He is not developing it, now is he?...............but it is a development regarding the Atrix nonetheless.

I didn't say he was developing it but the assumption is that the developer section is for people that want to code custom ROMs, hax, etc. There are plenty of general users that aren't advanced that are looking for information and come to the general section.
You guys will want 2.3.4, android 2.3.3 has an android os bug thag drains battery life, 2.3.4 fixes that issue

It's not that simple. Samsung use binaries they are simply not allowed to release source for, due to IP rights and stuff of their respective owners.
These hardware designers have no duty nor intention to release source for their IP just because they're used in conjunction with an open source OS.

NOT signed because this is really NOT important!
Samsung, will, I am sure, release what source code they can (for legal reasons, such as IP licensing) ONCE THEY RELEASE ICS for the SGS2.
They WON'T release the source code before that, as they are still changing the code and working on the features / bugs etc. to make ICS work on the SGS2.
No amount of b*tching from anyone will make a large multi-national like Samsung drastically change their development / release cycles *JUST* to keep a very small number of users happy.
... remember they're under NO OBLIGATION to release this source code in full... although I'm sure they will...

What you don't seem to grasp is that Samsung DOES release its code within the month of releasing an official ROM (Update1, 2 and 3 of the Gingerbread source being the prime example of this). They release the source they CAN release. The petition is to put pressure on them for the rest of the source code, which I agree with stuclark, is quite possible will not happen. I signed the petition just in case to give an extra number to a petition I don't believe will matter.
stuclark is entitled to his opinion, as you are, so let him post what he wants. He did not do it in a cruel manner or with horrible intentions. He is in his right to not sign if he does not believe. This is just like a friend of mine who got bullied by students because she didn't wanna sign a petition.
And he is right you know, 5200 users as opposed to the millions of phones that were sold... Is a VERY small portion of the SGS2 community.

I have no problems when someone is entitled to his/her opinion.
BUT (s)he said that "it isn't important".
However, as there are people who sign this petition (or would, if they knew that it exists) it's BS.
(S)he should have said that it's not important in her/his opinion. That's quite a difference.
Your "argument" is nice too. The typical "you can't change anything anyway" argument.
Congratulations, if you think that way.
