updating kernal - Nexus One General

i was wondering if i could update my kernal to intersectRaven. will it delete the mod on my phone or just change the kernal? my mod version is CyanogenMod-5.0.6-N1. also, will it require me to re-do all my phone settings and install all apps? i guess its called a "wipe".

Hi - it wont remove the mod, you might want to take a look at my guide here
The updates are obtainable either in 'flash from recovery' or 'adb push' format.. either will work the same.
If you want more info, let me know.

i know nothing abot "adb push" and everytime i tried to learn i failed. i will try to do a flash recovery.

im running cyan 5.0.6 so u dont have to do an adb push. You can simply just flash this kernel in recovery as i am also running intersectravens last 33.3, just make sure wi-fi is turned off before flashing as it may break ur wifi. If it does then ull have to do a adb push. If you just flash i think there are downsides to it like not being able to revert back to other kernels unless u do a nandroid. I may be wrong so check his thread and read up on it.
Heres how i figured out how to use adb. Your rooted so Im sure u have the drivers installed. This link tells you how to hook up phone using ur androidSDK, check to see phone is detected, then adb push the commands they have in the thread for kernel. I use his last 33.3 CFS 800mV . http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/

ahh i didnt turn off my wifi! seems to be working though...

Really stuck

Hey, ive recently updated the rom on my phone from cm 6.1 (stable) to cm7 nightly (vendor ace) -
initially i did it to test it and to see if it would fix my problem were the phone screen would automatically turn off when reciveing and sending calls, which resulted in taking out the battery and turning back on(which is now randomly working again)
after i flashed the cm7(via rom mamanger) it worked fine, got back onto the phone and i didnt have market and my phone wasnt connecting to google accounts aswell, so i then installed gapps. it worked the first time and it said it was succesful.
Restarted my phone and its the same, no market..etc..
so i tried it again, same thing, then for some reason when ever i try and load into the recovery from rom manager or from the inital vol - and power, it just freezes on the HTC startup screen.
The only thing i think i may have done different was adding this file to my phone (recovery-ace-3.0.0.5.img) because someone on cm7 told me i needed it, but i have no clue what it was for nor how to load or flash it.
So my main problem is, gapps wouldnt install and now ic ant access the recovery manager either and im getting kinda bored without my precious DHD
Can someone please help me
Just to make this clear, you cannot access your recovery even through bootloader? Can you get to the bootloader?

i cant access the recovery manager through the boot loader either but yes i can access the boot loader
Okay, then download this file:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18138289/reco.img
And then download radio flash.zip from radio.img flash guide sticky, extract it, open "start here", drop reco.img to the radio flash folder and type:
fastboot flash recovery reco.img

Your device has to be in bootloader>fastboot mode. After that you can access recovery, do a full wipe and flash CM6.
Ill try this now and reply once its done, erm why flash cm6? or do you think the same fault will happen if i try and reinstall cm7?
do i have to be in the bootloader from the beginning?
plus is there htc sync for MACs?
Thanks alot btw
Well, you can try to flash the cwm 3.img like I described and then install CM7, but I know for sure that the recovery I linked works with CM6.
You have to be in bootloader fastboot when you issue the command, yes.
I do not have a MAC, so I am not really sure. I think that you would have to get Android SDK and forget about radio flash toolkit if you want to use a MAC.
And then download radio flash.zip from radio.img flash guide sticky, extract it, open "start here", drop reco.img to the radio flash folder and type:
right so whilst i do all of this, i need to be in the bootloader > fast boot - sorry just want to clarify, ive not done this before but i have faith!!
Yeah, it does not really matter, but I would put my phone to bootloader fastboot so it is ready. The important thing is that your device is in fastboot mode when you enter the fastboot flash command.
Kool Kool, well thanks alot im going to try this now
right so i successfully entered the recovery, thanks alot for the help with that.
I tried to reinstall cm7 -worked and gapps - said it worked, but it still wont bring up the market app, why is this?
i reinstalled a back up and everything is working again, im so confused why it wont bring up the market app in cm7

when you boot into recovery, not just through rom manager, does it say you have cwm 3.x installed? if so try re-flashing the gapps, if not go back into fastboot and flash cwm3.
Wow, really sorry about that, i thought the cwm was a custom firmware i thought t was optional, sorry for the inconvenience, but thank you alot this has been daunting :/
flashed the right recovery, and everything is working as it should be, thankyou both very much

Somebody, i need to unroot my phone using Mac , don't know how

im having problems , on how to unroot my phone , so i can install EB13 , i know that i have to open App Terminal , but don't know what to type next inside of it
and what does this mean's (chmod +x run.sh and run it)
somebody plz explain it to me like a little kid
just recently change from Windows to Apple and everything is different and frustrating ..thanks
Somebody!!!! plz help me
I'm having trouble understanding. Rephrase
Which eb13 did you download? I think z4root can root and unroot an epic. I just used it to perm root my gf's epic last night. She rolled back to di18.
It can be done on a Mac but I gave up and dual booted with XP and flash that way because it's easier.
Or something easier could be to dl a version of eb13 that you can flash with clockwork recovery. Flash it like a rom. Clear all the caches and do a full factory wipe in clockwork then flash the rom. After that root if possible with z4root app. Get eb13 that is a full install in recovery, not an update.
have you tried here? there are instructions for osx
http...forum.androidcentral.com/epic-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/60768-how-factory-restore-fix-bricked-phone.html
I talked my gf through flashing an update.zip that was a full di18 with clockworkmod mod that was already on the phone from when I had it. As long as you already have cwm recovery and there's a version of eb13 that is full and meant to be flashed in custom recovery, I don't see why it wouldn't work. You could do all this without a computer or at least I did when she went from eb13 full to di18 full.
If rom manager had an epic recovery on the server, I checked last night and it's gone, I think in theory it can be done. If you had a new phone, run z4root for permanent root. Then run rom manager for cwm recovery. Then download full eb13 that is set up to install like install.zip. Boot into cwm recovery and clear out all caches and do full factory reset then flash the new rom. Then boot into phone like normal and set it up. Install and run z4root again and hope it works with froyo. Then I think you're done and didn't use a computer. Someone will probably point out that there's some thing that needs a PC for.
Use wifi of course
This is actually quite easy thanks to the directions posted in this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=808103
If you rooted using the one click method, I believe this should work to undo root. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm still new-ish to this myself.
INTEL MAC & LINUX:
Note: Mac and Linux users may be prompted to enter administrative password, as adb server requires sudo permissions to start.
No drivers required.
Extract the zip file.
Open Terminal. Use the cd command to get to the directory. If you extracted inside the Downloads folder, it would be easy in Terminal as so:
Code:
cd ~/Downloads/epic.aio.v2.04
Now give permissions and run it:
Code:
chmod +x run.sh
./run.sh

sorry, let me b clear , i did a clockworkmod(2.5.1) a few month ago with my Mac , now i forgot how to uninstall it. Anyways i download a version of Eb13 to my sd card(on the phone) an when i try to install it on my phone it says that it install , but when i go to chk the version it still's showing 2.1 update 1
i did everything through the phone but it is NOT installing EB13
question, do i need to bring my phone completey to stock, that means removing the Clockworkmod(2.5.1) or can i install EB13 with the CWM already in my phone???
Where can i find a good version of EB13 that i can download straight from my phone, cuz using my Mac and trying to push the program through it is a little bit of confusing inputing all does codes , like , what the hell this means ( chmod +x run.sh)???
come on man, read a little bit. you can do it.
get access to a windows computer for a few hours and use ODIN to flash over EB13. read xda's samsung epic wiki page.

[Q] Atrix Special "Brick" Problem with touchpad - reset

So, guys...here's a real challenge for all of you.
I taught my friend how to enable multitouch on Atrix 4G and I did mine correctly, but he tried editing the touchpad.cfg file using the Atrix, removed the READ permissions of file and restarted the phone. Obviously, the phone can't read the touchpad.cfg anymore and touchpad is not working at all.
Gladly (yeah, this is sarcasm), the Android won't let he do a factory reset because the Froyo version needs an extra step of TOUCHING the screen to complete the recovery command.
I tried accessing it via ADB too, but it requires you to TOUCH the screen and choose your USB connection type.
So, touch is out of question. Is there any way to access this cell phone and make the files readable again (or replace the files, whatever makes it working). The phone has USB Debugging enabled, if it helps.
p.s: sorry if it's been posted before, but I search the forum A LOT and could only find two similar posts that were unanswered. (Please, let's not make this one be the third. We don't need that.)
Have you tried fastboot? try turning off the phone and holding power + volume down until you see the word Fastboot then press volume up. You should be able to do whatever from adb now. Try that or an official update.
this should be in Q&A btw

Hey, Tayshun, thanks for the reply
I tried using Fastboot, but the device still can't be found by ADB shell. If you can point me some direction of what I may be doing wrong it would be great.
And I don't really understand when you say "that or an official update". How was I suppose to update the phone without touching it at all? Via Recovery Menu too? What is the option?
Thanks in advance

if you can't access ADB to push a file, and you can't get recovery to work to reflash a fruitcake, then you're only choice is to sbf flash a 2.3.4 gingerbread sbf. either that, or the pudding sbf if you wish to stay unlocked.
it will give you a fresh, stock state of the phone. if he is on Gingerbread though, you can ONLY flash those two sbf's, any others will hard brick your phone.
EDIT: I just thought of something, it's a long run but you might be able to fix permissions in Recovery mode, i don't know whether it'll work or not though.

Well, he's running Froyo 2.2, so I guess this option is not available for us to try. Even though because I'm not really sure I can go throught all these steps.

Can you please explain me this idea of yours in more details? I think that all I need is to be able to communicate with the device without using touch. I read somewhere that using Fastboot, I could do anything via ABD, but even putting the phone on this mode, I still get "device not found" on ADB console. Maybe I'm missing some extra step. But again, if you could please explain me about this permission thing in Recovery Mode, it would be great, Alcapone. Thanks!!!
Flash a pudding 2.2 sbf

[Q] First Post!...with a ton of help needed.

HellllOOooOoOo!!
Ok, here goes. First off, I searched. A lot. There is so much conflicting information and opinions out there. I hate to annoy you pros with noob-ness but I have to. Sorry!
Here is the quick version:
Friend gave me an Atrix 4G. He is big on experimenting, rooting, custom ROMs and all that. I am not. At all. I want to use it on t-mobile. I DO get a signal and can text. MMS doesn't work and motoblur wont let me set up an account. This results in no access to email other then Gmail. Basically, I want to bring the phone back to its original (or close as possible) state. Hopefully, that will solve some of my issues.
-Android Version
2.3.4
-Unlocked
-Rooted
-Build Number
olympus_hktw-userdebug 2.3.4 4.5.2A-5_OLH-3110614 test-keys
-Clockwork recovery mod installed (if that matters)
I am not THAT tech savvy but can follow instructions well. I've already been messing around but cant seem to get RSD Lite to actually flash properly. I dont care for customs ROMS, hacking and tinkering. I just want this phone to work as well as possible.
Can anyone give me some personal assistance? Please? Step by step would be great. I'll be refreshing this page often in hopes of responses.

It sounds like you need to set up a proper T-Mobile APN. (you have a T-Mobile SIM card currently installed?)
If you can get on Wifi, try to go the the Play store and download Tweakker or other APN utilities that enter the APN for your based on your carrier.

Yes. I have a t-mobile SIM card installed. My concern is what the previous owner may have done and whatever ROM is loaded on this phone. Can I somehow bring it back to stock or get a super stable, close to stock as possible ROM first and then start addressing the quirks I have?
Is this an AT&T branded phone? I'm not sure if getting back to stock is necessary, and if you do get back to stock, you might be SIM locked to AT&T (I could be wrong however). If you want to flash a fresh, stock ROM but still be rooted, SIM unlocked, etc., find a 2.3.6 Fruitcake in this forum or try NottachTrix 4G ROM.
however, I'd wait till others weighed in before doing anything. Honestly, I'd try getting your APN (download Tweakker app and walk through the steps) going now and if that solves your issue, your ROM might be working fine for you... my $0.02
oh, and welcome to XDA!

1. Download the fruitcake .zip you want (webtop also, if you want it)
2. Do a full wipe with fastboot (search if you're unsure how to)
3. Boot into recovery and flash the .zip you downloaded from step 1
4. Reboot and you're done
This will put you back to stock. I can't remember if fruitcakes are pre-rooted, but if not you can easily root again.
Alright, now we're getting somewhere.

The phone itself says "unlocked" upon startup. I got the network unlock code direct from AT&T because at first the phone wouldn't even recognize my t-mo SIM. Phone is now network unlocked.
Ghost
gonna search now for fruitcake and see what thats all about. Do I need webtop?
Then going to get fastboot. Guess I dont need RSD Lite anymore?
Im doing this because I dont know what the previous owner has done and would like a clean slate. Kind of like changing the oil on a used car you buy, even if the PO says it was done.
Ok so,
I found fastboot with recovery tool and the .exe files within the ZIP dont do anything.
The fruitcake ZIP file I downloaded according to your link, I'm not sure what to do with that. lol
Help?
**am I supposed to be saving these files to the phone itself? If so, where? Internal storage? SD card?

that "unlocked" bit on start up means your bootloader is unlocked, doesn't have anything to do with the SIM card. All this means is that you can flash a ROM since the phone is "unlocked"

the fruitcake .zip goes on your internal sdcard. BUT, before you start doing anything, please go through the stickied threads in this section and read up on how to flash ROMs to your phone. This will include how to wipe your phone using the fastboot commands and how to flash the fruitcake .zip.
start here, read this post

then follow guides to
"HOW TO INSTALL FRUITCAKES ON 2.3.4 (GREAT SBF/RSD ALTERNATIVE!!!)"
and
"ROMs & Kernels:
FYI:
Before installing any ROM or Kernel I suggest you do the following to help prevent error, boot-loops, etc. Also, it's a good idea to flash a new ROM or Kernel on a fully charged device:
1) Download which ever ROM or Kernel you plan on flashing and have the .zip on your device ready to flash.
2) Backup your apps (not system data), contacts, etc. Also consider making a CWM backup of your device, just in case.
3) Boot into CWM Recovery
4) Wipe Dalvik Cache (under advanced in CWM)
5) Wipe Cache Partition
6) Wipe data/factory reset
6a) If you're using ROM Manager/CWM you will need to reboot the device after step 5, and upon reboot enter fastboot mode and enter the command: "fastboot -w" or "moto-fastboot -w" if you prefer using moto-fastboot. Then type "fastboot reboot" and upon reboot make sure to enter Android Recovery again, so that you can flash the ROM/Kernel.
7) Install .zip from SD Card (choose the .zip you wish to install)
8) If you installing a radio, theme, kernel, etc. on top of a ROM, I would suggest redoing the whole wipe process again between flashes.
9) Reboot the Device
- If you get a boot loop, try entering Android recovery and re-wiping the chace and data, and perhaps try reflashing the ROM/Kernel. Or if you made a CWM backup, you can always restore that."

Ok, sorry I wasn't that detailed in my other post and assumed you were on your phone (my bad). First things first, read the N00b guide.
1. Anytime you download CWM .zips, put them on the root of your phone's sdcard. You'll need them there in order access them from recovery. ( note: sdcard=internal sd card & sdcard-ext=external sd card for blur ROMS )
2. Fastboot commands are executed from the command line. Open a command prompt and navigate to the directory containing fastboot.exe in order to use it. The Noob guide should have links to all the fastboot commands you'll need.
3. With the Atrix's unlocked BL, holding Volume Down when turning the phone on will bring up a series of bootmodes to choose from. This is how you get into fastboot, recovery, RSD, etc. Navigate through the choices with Volume Down. Select one by pressing Volume Up. You should only ever really need Fastboot and Android Recovery.
4. CWM is used to flash .zips (ROMS, kernels, apps) while in recovery mode. Use romracer's to make things easier on yourself later.
Read through the N00b guide and this will all make perfect sense.
I have no idea what Im doing. I think because this phone has been tampered with so much already, it's making it extra tough to work with.
I managed to install CM7. Its the only ZIP file that actually seemed to take. I still dont understand fastboot , in the sense that I don;t know when Im supposed to see a command prompt. Also, now, CM7 is asking me to upgrade to premium and I have to pay for it. There doesnt seem to be a free way of installing it so that I can sync all my info through my google account. Ugh. Im not cut out for this but Ive been screwing with this literally since 730 this morning.
**CM7 with google apps packet installed. So far, so good. Im happy with this considering its pretty close to stock gingerbread, kinda like my G2. Now, Im hopefully done messing around. Would be nice if they release a solution for the fingerprint scanner or if I can get my gmail to auto sync but at least I can stop obsessing for the time being. Great help guys, thanks so much!!!!

Please help...

Well take it easy on you. For future reference, all questions and requests for help go in the q n a section. This section is for posting ROMs, kernel, mods, etc.. only. Anyway, you say that you cannot get your phone to be recognized through adb? Here are number of reasons why that might be.
1. You do not have the proper drivers installed. Install the drivers for this with the proper driver software for this phone.
2. The obvious reason is in order to use adb, your phone has to be booted on. (You can still access adb even if your stuck on boot animation) or have to be in recovery mode.
3. Make sure you have all the files in a folder you need to initiate adb commands: fastboot and a dB for example. You can get all these from downloading the SDK tool kit.
Now I do not know what remedies you have tried to restore it. But the first thing you should've done after you have installed safe strap was make a backup of your original ROM.
If all else fails, you will need to flash the jellybean stock firmware using rsd lite. Which of course requires you to have yih phone recognized by your. PC. Check to make sure it isn't your cord by hooking it up to another computer. Try swapping different cord too.
And moved...
