:I changed the initial post:
because vodafone's 3G network was down i used WIFI for the first time ever. Weirdly this resulted in the following:
The htc default browser and apps that use the browser stopped working completly. Just says it cant make a connection. All other apps on the phone that use 3G work fine though including opera mini.
Things i tried:
Resetting APN's
Turning Phone on and off and removing the batterie
Turn airflight mode on and off
Turn data connection on and off
Set all browser options to default
Nothing seems to have any effect. I can still only use the default browser over wifi and not on 3G but i never use wifi so that kinda sucks....
Must be something related to the Wifi AP or Router...as you probably know Android does not support out of the box connecting to AD HOC networks...maybe it has something to do with the AP configuratie...just an ideea.
Good luck.
happend to be a app i had tested and deleted again named proxy anonymous. It ****ed up something in the browser. To bad someone only told me after i had already did a reset
I got the same problem yesterday ...
I finally found why :
in the browser go to parameters and then turn on "mobile view for websites"
If it can help you ;-)

Hi All
Sorry if this is a duplicate thread, I searched but coudln't find anything.
My PiE works fine only under WiFi, but never seems to want to work over my mobile data connection.
My BBConnect, and HTC Home Weather can establish and use the connection no problems, but not with PiE.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this up
Thank you!
...actually pie isn't working at all even over WiFi.
I click on any link, it says connecting then it stops...
i would
1 check the setting in connection advanced to see if it was set to use the right connection to access the internet
2 try another browser then pie (it being the worst browser on the planet could be an issue)
3½ if special network settings for gateway and or dns was set i would remove them or change them to the connect ones

My other programs (BBConnect, HTC Weather) have no problems getting on.
Just PIE (was set for Rogers Internet) I also tried My Blackberry and HTC Home still updates, but not PIE....
I thought I would bump this.
I gave up and did a re-install. Everything was fine for a bit, and its back again.
All I have installed is SyncML Client, VJDevice Lock, Today Agenda, voice command BBConnect.
Its ONLY IE that won't work. I would really appreciate some help with this one!
So it is the blackberry software that is doing it. I think it is forcing you to use that, rather than the regular data connection.
If anyone can help me manage this, I would appreciate it.
Thank you!
I have a similar browser related problem...
Everything works on 3G, GPRS, WiFi, etc... EXCEPT PIE only does not work with WiFi, same symptoms you are receiving. I have to turn off the WiFi to get PIE to work. With WiFi on, email and all other connectivity programs can stilll get data from the web.
There is something here where PIE settings are somehow slightly different than the WiFi connection....
Anyone have any ideas? The fix for me would also fix the same issue for you...
...and a follow up to the issue, if I wanted to change the default browser in WM6 to NetFront of Opera, how would I go about doing that?
Opera is ignoring my wifi connection in favour of my 3G connection. If I have my data connection and wifi both enabled then other apps (e.g. google maps) use the wifi by default (as "My ISP" is set as the default connection). Opera however stubbornly sticks with 3G.
Are there any settings that I may have overlooked.
I don't want to turn off my data connection because I use push email with Exchange and this won't work with the data connection turned off. I just want Opera to use the wifi if it is there and 3G if not. I'm sure this used to work in the past but doesn't any more.
Any pointers gratefully received as I'm in danger of busting my 500Mb download limit on Vodafone (and that soon gets expensive!)
Hi I have the same problem, have youalready solved it,pls?
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3396033&posted=1#post3396033
I've had the same problem. I tried using Opera 9.5 build 15613, browsed using HSDPA then exited opera, turned wifi on and opened opera and it used the wifi. Then i exited, turned wifi on and browsed using HSDPA for a while. Then turned that off and tried using wifi again and it stuck with the HSDPA so it looks like build 15613 doesn't fix the issue.
I think i've found the solution! Im using build 15613 so i don't know if this will work for the version that comes pre-installed. If it doesn't it's not hard to find build 15613.
In the TouchFLO interface:
Home / Settings / Communications / Settings / Wireless LAN / Power Mode tab / move slider to far left ( Best Performance )
I've tested it a few time and now opera uses wifi whenever it's available.
This is very odd. Suddenly today I'm getting connection errors (GPRS) on every program on my phone EXCEPT for Skyfire. Skyfire can connect and surf the net with no problem, but not one other app on my phone will connect to the net, and I've tried several browsers as well as apps that connect directly (i.e. YouTube, Google Maps, etc).
I'm on AT&T in the US (New Orleans, specifically). I've checked and triple-checked my Media Net connection settings, and nothing has changed that I can see since the last time I was able to use it successfully. I've soft-reset several times, to no avail. I don't know if this is an issue, but while I was using WiFiWMRouter yesterday, it crashed. But I used the "Reset All Settings" function of that which is a crash cleanup of sorts, and still no luck.
What else can I check? It would seem that if it were an AT&T issue, Skyfire wouldn't be able to connect either!
Weird, I have the exact same problem too. I probably wouldn't have known that Skyfire could connect until I saw your post. My problem began (I think) when I uninstalled WMWifiRouter last night. I haven't gotten a connection with any other app since then. I had a hell of a time uninstalling an old version or WMWR I had installed just so I could install the PAID version and now it is apparently causing problems even on uninstall...
To add to this - I've confirmed that devices connected with ICS can connect to the internet through the phone. So it seems to me that the problem is related to some wifi settings (maybe that WMWR sets up) that aren't being "released" when wifi is turned off/disconnected.
If I do a hard reset the connection seems fine. If I then restore a backup from right before the problem started the connection is okay, but only until I try wifi again. From then on it's borked until I restore the backup again... frustrating as hell.
FWIW - I think I pinned down what was going on with my phone. In my wifi settings something (probably WMWR or Phojo) had set a static IP when establishing an ad-hoc network and didn't revert to "obtain an IP address automatically" when I quit/uninstalled the program. I don't know why the IP address of the wifi network adapter affects my cellular data connection, but setting that to "obtain automatically" and turning wifi back off allowed my phone to connect again. So it seems like it was using that IP address regardless.
Hi folks, here's my brand new problem...
After rolling back to JM7 FW from JPC my internet connection was broken. I did everything like I was told to do by the JM7 thread and everything went fine, except my 3g connection.
I then rerolled to JPC via Odin, again everything went fine, but the problem remains.
Did a search but couldn't find sufficient help. I checked my APN settings (o2 de), everything is alright. The H symbol is showing and the uplink arrow is blinking sometimes (so I think there is at least uplink?!), but my phone cannot get data from the internet and I cannot connect to my Google profile.
any ideas are welcome.
edit: I have the unbranded european version of SGS
edit: 2g connection is working
download Opera Mini, install it
and see if that works
some network operators blocks port 80 for strange reason and the default browser doesn't work
but Opera Mini works because it doesn;t use the default connection
Nope, nothing. Opera tries to install itself for a whlie and then states it cannot connect.
use WiFi to install opera, then use opera to test your APN 3G
Ok, solved, I changed the server in my APN settings to an alternate adress --> did not work. I then changed it back to 'Unassigned' and tada --> now it works, I don't know why.
So, I took the plunge and using unrevoked3 I rooted my HTC Wildfire. After doing so, I was looking for ROM's to toy around with and see how they worked. I found the WildPuzzleROM and flashed it using Clockmod recovery. Everything seemed to be going fine until I left the apartment and loss my wifi connectivity and tried to use my data connection to get on the internet. If I reboot the phone or turn off connections using airplane mode I am able to use apps like Gmail and Facebook fine, but when I try and use the internet icon a check mark goes under the 3G symbol and it says I have no connectivity. I tried re-flashing with the ROM again but it still doesn't seem to work. And unfortunately for me, I didn't back up my original factory ROM (if that is what you would call it) so I'm not even sure how to try and get it back to before I did this. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
I got the exactly the same problem.
I solved it by from market download and install a different browser.
In my case i download Dolphin HD internet browser.
Works like a charm
I had the the same problem, after flash 0900_orginal_framework_stock_battery_icon_v5.zip browser with 3G working!!!!:
I use WildPuzzleROM v8.0.1
reminds me a bizzare CynogenMod bug GPS disabled 3G
the solution was to the mobile network APN and remove all but one APN
(usually you use only one APN anyhow)
The browser may also ask for location which can cause the effect you described.
Thread is in weong section. This has nothing with development.
