Sprint SERO floodgates have been opened - Hero CDMA General

Sprint has just encouraged employees to sign up as many referral customers as possible between now and August. Here is your chance to get a Hero for your friends or relatives, (no, you can't get the EVO this way...yet).

I am not a sales guy. I don't work retail, I'm in IT. I get no commission for doing this. Spread the love!
EDIT:: The rues for existing customers change all the time. I cannot say for sure whether they will allow for an existing customer to migrate over to a SERO plan or not. I would imagine no, but stranger things have happened.
EDIT v2 :: Here is the pertinent part of the fine print: Other Terms: No additional plan discounts apply.

Can existing customers switch over to this plan ?

i've never heard of sero??? what is it??? sorry....

I am considering an upgrade and understand SERO and Everything Plus Messaging rate plans aren't compatible with all devices. What devices aren't compatible with these plans?
The Samsung Instinct, Samsung Instinct S30, Samsung Instinct HD, Samsung Moment, HTC Hero, Palm Pre and Palm Pixi are not compatible with SERO or Everything Plus Messaging rate plans. If you are considering an upgrade to one of these devices, you will need to also upgrade your rate plan to one of the Everything Plus Data (Individual or Family) rate plans.
I want to change rate plans, unrelated to a device upgrade. Can I do this? How?
Yes, you can change rate plans to any of the Everything Plus (Individual or Family) rate plans. SERO rate plans, however, are not available for rate plan changes. In order to change your rate plan, please email [email protected] or call Sprint Care at 888-876-8381.

do corporate discounts and recurring credits remain if we switch to this?
thank you!

This information is a little bit old. Sometimes the plans change faster than the FAQ's. What are you trying to get? I see all of these phones listed on the SERO website.

Probably not. This is really meant for new customer acquisition. Like I said, I am an IT guy

This is amazing, I just got service 2 months ago and Sprint's website says "Sorry, Everything Data Family 1500 has one of our older services that we don't support online." Nice to know as a new customer they will sell something outdated quick.

I have the 1500/2 lines shared now and pay about $110 w/corp discount.....

Current customers can not switch over.
You would need to transfer your number to another carrier for a month and then come back.

Thanks. I've been looking at all my options if I switch to the EVO, but for me on an individual plan it's cheaper.
EPRP Everything Data 500 Minutes:
Plan $59.99
4G Charge: $10.00
TEP: $7
Total: 76.99 (pre-tax)
Everything Data 450 Minutes:
Plan: $69.99
4G Charge: $10
TEP: $7
Total (Pre Discount): $86.99
Corporate Discount: 20% ($17.40)
Total: 69.59 (pre-tax)
Yes, it's 50 minutes less but it qualifies as a premiere plan ( http://premier.sprint.com/?id9=vanity:premiercustomer ). So if anyone has a decent corporate discount you may want to consider just a regular plan.

You can not apply any additional discounts to EERP. So if your getting 15% or more off your bill, then this isn't for you. Also if you're an existing customer, you have to temporarily go to another carrier and port your number back to get on the program. It was worth the trouble back in the old SERO days, not so much now though.

I'll stick with what I have.. $56 a month for 450 minutes, unlimited data, unlimited texting. Have a medco employee discount of 23%, though.

i saw an account today today that was sero and the dudes work discount was on there somehow as well.. was paying like 30 dollars a month for everything..baller

I wan SERO , I'd love to jump on it with my hero.

This could be caused by the sprint.com website. We've been suffering from unending flakiness since we upgraded to Sprint 2.0. All of our legacy plans should be manageable online...we are trying to cut down on the number of times customers have to call us for service.
Go back and try again, if you are still having problems I will enter a ticket for your issue

Yeah it is still showing the same, amazing they can roll out the website when it's not ready but the upgrade to phone, nope. JK I am waiting on final of 2.1 Don't really care actually since my phone is running great. Nextelian I have a question, when did Sprint Premier go into effect ? Just curious how they are classifying new/existing customers for it.

No Corporate Discount for rate plans with N1??

First let me say sorry if this was posted before, I searched and found nothing on it.
I just got off the phone with a T-mobile Rep and, he explained to me, that If i sign up for a new contract when purchasing the Nexus I will not be eligable for my 15% corporate discount on rate plane.
Has anyone successfully used their discount on a rate plan using the N1? I find it hard to believe that Google cares that much about me getting a 15% discount.
Thanks!
I couldn't even get my corporate discount on the regular non-contract plans. I decided to downgrade my minutes, and I have to pay full price for the 500 min, unlimited data and text plan, which is $60.
Their reasoning was that "it's already discounted," whatever that means.
---
Oh, I just wanted to add that you can just buy the "unlocked" phone for full price and use your existing plan. That might save you in the long run, depending on how much you pay at the moment.
Yea I am currently on the Even More Plus (no Contract) and was willing to sign the two-years to get the nexus subsidized, then use my discount to get the 1000 min + Text + Web for 75 with insurance but I was told Google will not allow Discounted rate plans with the N1...
The lack of corporate discount has nothing to do with the N1 and everything to do with the Everything More + plans. EM+ plans are not eligible for corporate discount to the base plans, though the add-ons may be discounted and activation fees may be waived depending on the corp discount. This is true regardless of the phone you use.
If you are on a regular EM plan (or an older eligible plan) you can still have your corporate discount with that plan and the N1.
The way I know it as a T-Mobile rep is that if you are on EvenMore, you get get the discount (lets say it was 15%) plus the waived act fees. If you are on Even More Plus, you still get the waived act fee but you dont get the monthly discount because its already cheaper than the Contracted one with your discount on that. I understand were everyone comes from cause the discount should be applied the any rate plan but, I don't think T-Mo would be getting enough money to expand the network like we want and bring in the devices that we want if they did do that especially because they give discounts to so many different organization (business, AAA, alumni, students, faculty, gov, churchs, etc). But just to lay it out so every one understands let take EvenMoreTTW Unlimited and EvenMorePlusTTW Unlimited. EM would be $85 after discount and EM+ is still 80. Usually if you get a great discount on your phone and monthly, EM would come out better (just realize that the phone discount would only be for the new act and not upgrades later) but if its just that plan you get a discount on EM+ is the way to go for the long run.
Yea I am on the EM+ but was willing to switch to the EM plan to use my discount. I was told that the discount COULD NOT be used because when purchasing the phone from google they only allow Individual Plans not Corporate Plans.
This made no sense to me but thats what I was told.

Since my significant other is on a discounted plan with an N1 I am not sure as to the validity of the argument. I personally am on the loyalty plan and do not see a point in changing. Did you call business suppport? if you just dialed 611 I would not be surprised with that answer, look at the extremely inconsistent answers on everything else (plans, insurance, support...) coming out of the CSRs.
Since you already have the phone, and I assume you got it subsidized at the new contract rate ($179), your options may be more limited. If however you are on a corporate plan and bought it at existing customer subsidy (now $279 if memory serves) or unsubsidized you most certainly can have a corporate discount.
i bought unlocked so Tmobile didnt touch my corporate discount let alone know im using a n1
ok i got it all taken care of, the original CS Rep was misunderstanding what I asked. Glad I got it all cleared up.
Thanks for those of you who posted and chimed in with responses!!
Ok this may sound weird but I got the phone on contract by adding a line to my account like I stated. I just decided (after ordering the phone) that I dont wanna be on a contract and i just want to buy the phone outright.
Can I just cancel the added line with T-Mobile and pay the Recovery Fee or 350.00 to google or do I have to return the phone then let them refund my account then order it again unsubsidized.
I guess my real question is How do i go about getting google to charge me the ERF so I dont have to ship and wait for a refund just to order it again?
When I went in and got my SIM card, I got my discount. Activation fee waived, and 15% off my plan (everything more plus or w/e...the $60 one)
Also just as a referce for everyone, so if you have a corp discount you can apply, just go into any store after do the EM plan buying a N1 and then the will still add it. I have gotten no word from T-Mobile that we aren't allowed to add the discount to the plan. Its pretty much the phone is just sold through google, once your plan is set up and everything yo can do whatever as far as adding discount or changing plan. Honestly on our side you wouldn't see anything. You just can't switch to EM+ cause that would cause a ETF. As far as the loyalty plan, that 50 for unlimited minutes and 35 more if you add texting and data, so you would save $5 a month and make up the migration fee of $35 over time but just up to you if a contract is a problem or not thats all. I probably would stay contracted if you like Tmo on the single line loyalty it doesn't get too much better.
Even More Plus plans were never eligible for corporate discounts, but Even More plans are. I have a discount on mine. However, T-mobile dropped the discount... so when I switched to buy the subsidized phone, my discount went from 15% to 6%. Sucks, but better than nothing.
DynaBass139: Sort of off topic but I would not switch to EM+ because I would lose number portability. I am not under any contract obligation at this point so ran the numbers and debated the subject a great deal. Granted I am unlikely to change carriers but I have had the same phone number for close to a decade now. If I decide/need to switch carriers I want to keep it.. The deal is good enough, though I wish T-Mo would drop the web to $30 to put it on parity with EM+ for cost.
(I have historically not subsidized my phones because T-Mo has not had the phones I have wanted. I have gone through a long list of HTC phones starting at the Blue Angel in 2004 I think, down to the N1 I bought on release day. If a N2 comes out on T-Mo with a keyboard I might try and subsidize that though. 2 $500+ phones in a year would be a bit too much.)
I was just gonna say I went in the day after I got mine and received the Fedex corporate discount no prob. Too late.
Ok i am just going to stay on my EM+ without the discount but I made the mistake of choosing the subsidy by opening a new line.
anyone know if I can just cancel that new line that I opened and just pay the other 350.00 off. i know google has the equipment recovery fee so how does that get charged?

The EVO will be available on the Everything Plus Referral Plan tomorrow!

Just an FYI. If you have a friend or relative that would like to pitch the iPhone and grab an EVO, they can save a few bucks a month on the Sprint Everything Plus Referal plan (it basically offsets the $10/month 4G charge).

For those following this thread. I'm going to try my best to help Kcarpenter out. We're working it out behind the scenes.
Any idea if its possible to upgrade to an Evo if I'm already on an EPRP plan? Cost? Since the base EPRP plan is right below the Premier $ threshold (I think they set it up that way on purpose), I won't be upgrade eligible for awhile (grabbed a Hero on release day, last October I believe).
Will the Evo 4G EPRP plan bundle in tethering? In the past, they seem to have added every available bell & whistle to the plans.

Yes, when you are eligible you can upgrade to the EVO. The price should be $199 after rebate. There will surely be a price-point for ineligible upgrades, probably $150 higher but don't quote me on that.
I'm not sure if they will bundle tethering with the new plan. I don't have any details at all other than that they are planning to add the EVO to the webpage tomorrow and the $59.99 plan plus the $10.00 4G charge will be available.
EDIT: The tethering looks like it will still be $29.99 even on the referral plan.
I heard rumors that WiFi will be disabled by default, an only enabled when/if you add the tethering plan. Does anyone know if this is true?

Maybe I misread the quote. I can't find it now, as I look back. Perhaps it was related to tethering, but not sure... I'll keep looking for the post I read to see if I can find it. It certainly wouldn't make sense to me, as it would put unnecessary strain on Sprint's network, but could be a (draconian) way to "assist" in preventing unauthorized tethering...
Lucky you... all of you... Sprint has yanked every which way they can and they're never gonna be done with it. From yanking upgrade eligibility to lying to me to telling me I might as well go find another carrier.
Sprint's kind of shooting themselves in the foot with this one. My contract expires in just a few months. So, instead of hooking me in for another 2 years with the sero plan now, Sprint writes me off as a useless existing customer and keeps me from switching to what is really the lowest available plan.
So, instead, they get to lose me in a few months.
Nice.

$350... Twice the phone as an iPhone for half the cost. It's a bargain.
FYI, after this release TMobile actually moved the date on their Vibrant up to the 15th
$350!?!? I might not have to move to sprint with this price.

That's with a new contract
If you have an "old" data plan (even if it's the iPhone data plan), they'll grandfather you in on the old "unlimited" (5GB) plans which are $30/mo. I was going to replace my iPhone and called them to make sure it'd work like that and they said it would.
I'll go through the premier site to see if I can buy the phone without being forced into a new contract like the iphone. I'm currently on att fuze with a $39.99 450 voice, $20 data/sms (unlimited data, 200 txt). My bill is around $63 with taxes. If in fact I have to to get a new contract to use this phone on ATT then i might as well go to sprint and get unlimited everything for about $15+ . My company offers discounts through sprint & att.

The guide is pathetic, it doesn't explain the terminology like what these things the guide are telling me to install.
Also we don't know if an SGS ROM will work on the captivate. Potentially bricking? Thanks for the advice.
I'm pretty sure I still currently have the $15/mo unlimited data, without texting or mms or anything, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to keep it without them forcing me into picking up one of their new, limited data plans. In my account information, I actually see the option to upgrade to the $30/mo unlimited messaging and data, but I'm afraid to choose it out of fear that once I do, they'll put me on one of their new crappy limited plans and tell me I'm out of luck, since I switched away from what I already had.

Wow, $249 after a $100 mail-in rebate. That's one hell of a deal, Sal.
He is referring you to the plans...
The problem is, you can't become a Premier customer on any of those plans.
They look like good prices for the plans, but I already get 25% off through my company.
Actually you do qualify for the Sprint Premier plan with the 4G phone plans.
Do Everything Plus customers qualify for Sprint Premier?Sprint Premier is our unique loyalty program giving qualified customers free gifts, discounts and upgrade eligibility every 12 months, among other perks. New Everything Plus customers will qualify for Sprint Premier after they have been a Sprint customer for 6 months and have maintained, for at least 3 months, a minimum monthly recurring charge of $69.99 on a single line or $99.99 on a family/share plan. For more information on Sprint Premier, click here.
But you automatically get an upgrade every 12 months with the referral program whether you spend the $69.99 or not.
How frequently can I upgrade my device?
Everything Plus customers are part of Sprint's New For You program and qualify for a discount after only 12 months. The amount of the discount depends on the length of your contract and the number of months you have had your current device. For more information on the New for You program, click here.
Like I said, the program details are on the webpage.
(for the record, as an employee I pay MORE for some phones than people off the street. And I can't even buy the Epic or Evo yet because of demand. I'm giving you better than I get myself )
...
Quick question: I already have a line of service, but I'm going in today to get a new 2 year agreement and upgrade to the Epic. Can I use this deal?
Thanks,
-Rob

From the OP, I can also confirm it. I just tried to use this on an upgrade and no deal.
Offer is only valid on new customers or current customers adding a new line to their account.

This I did not know. It was not that way with the old SERO plans. Shame I am business nice with a hefty discount.
Are you going to be around in 3 months?
I sure hope you're still around in 3 months when I'm off my Verizon contract.

This referral is good for as long as I'm employed. And it's open to all, so spread the word
And just in case Nextelian ever leaves Sprint, there's always Russ McGuire.
I doubt he's leaving anytime soon.

Can't get "Plus" plan
Hi,
First off I'd like to express my thanks for allowing people to use your employee referral information. It's appreciated!
I went to the Sprint store (San Leandro, CA) on launch day armed with Russ's info thinking I could get the Plus plan for me and my Fiancé. The store clerk said that the "Plus" plans do not offer the Epic 4G and he could not sign me up for a "Everything data Plus" family plan. He assured me the account can be changed after the fact into a "Plus" account. Reluctantly I signed up for the regular plan after repeated assurances that the plan can be turned into a "Plus" variant further down the line.
Now how do I actually make this happen? I'm assuming it is actually possible as I thought given the nature of this forum topic. Can one of you nice Sprint people give me some advice?
Thanks!

$10 Fee for All Smart Phones is True

Just wanted to let you guys know that, according to the Sprint rep that I spoke to today that all smart phones that that aren't already on the $10 premium data plan will then be charged when changing to ANY smart phone, regardless of 4g. So lets say you have a Samsung Intercept and dont pay the $10 fee, then when you upgrade to the Samsung Transform, you will then be paying the $10 fee for unlimited DATA. I invite you to confirm this with your provider.
I think its pretty sorry, though I pay the fee already for both my Epic and Evo in the amount of $10 on my line, if I were to let my family member use one then they would be charged the $10 premium, and then when they switched back, they would be paying it anyway with the Intercept because of the switching. Seems pretty sorry to me. Sorry if this isn't NEW new's but, thought I would share.
Sorry if this is OLD NEWS.. AGAIN.. I didn't know.. No need to flame me.
Its better then 15 or30 on at&t and 30 on verizon. I use to be on verizon and had to pay 30. So its not that bad. Everyone neds to stop complaining about this. I could understand complaining about it if only sprint did that but every other cell provider charges more. Plus we knew this was coming. Its old news.

I work for Sprint, and just a heads up:
If you upgrade a phone and thus add the $10 monthly charge then return the phone, you'll still be paying 10 extra a month.
Jussayin'.
That's what happens when people bring a class action suit against sprint because they don't want to pay the extra $10 that they knowingly agreed to when they bought the phone

I seriously doubt anyone here on XDA even considers a "feature-phone" an option.

I agree. It is just Sprint employees seem to have a habit of giving out incomplete or incorrect information.
I did some homework and found this:
http://www.bgr.com/2011/01/18/more-information-on-sprints-10-premium-data-fee/
Premium Data Add-on Charge for All Smartphones
Effective 1/30/11, all current and future 3G and 3G/4G smartphone activations will require the $10/month Premium Data Add-on charge. This allows Sprint to continue to offer simple and affordable unlimited data plans for our smartphone customers, while maintaining a wireless network able to meet the growing appetite for mobile data.
Complete details are included in the Premium Data Add-on Charge Launch Guide found on ISC > Quick Links > Premium Data Add-on Charge.
Details:
The Premium Data Add-on charge applies to:
All smartphones operating on the CDMA, iDEN and 4G networks.
A smartphone is defined as a device that supports a robust operating system including: Android, BlackBerry, Instinct, Palm and Windows Mobile.
All customers activating a new line or upgrading/swapping existing lines (consumer, IL, and most CL customers).
The Premium Data Add-on charge does NOT apply to:
S&R exchanges (warranty or insurance events)
30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee devices exchanges for handsets activated 1/1/11 to 1/29/11
Existing smartphone customers will remain on their current rate plan, until they upgrade, perform an ESN swap or activate a new smartphone
Existing Seasonal Standby customers prior to 1/30/11
Special priced CL customers tied to a Corp ID
Meh... US cell phone companies all work together to keep the prices high, though no one is willing to do anything about it.
US cell phone rates are among the highest in the world, with only a few companies dominating and price controlling the market. Its sad, but we can't do much about it.
Quit whining. Sprints pricing beats all competition for unlimited everything. I'm very happy with sprint and will be even more happy once the new release/updated roms begin to come. I pay about 80 a month and would pay 120 for verizon and more for at&t for the same plan. (I get an employee discount but even without it they're still cheaper)

$240 over the life of a 2 year contract and the "equivalent" plan on Verizon is 450 minutes with nights starting at 9:00pm and mobile to mobile only to Verizon customers... I would blow through those 450 on Verizon...all the people I know use different carriers.

^^^^^ This also applies to grandfathered legacy SERO ($30) customers who upgrade to SERO-Premium ($50) and try to revert back to the old legacy SERO ($30) plan.

$240 is worth it to some IF they get reception. What good is all those minutes, bells, and whistles if you can use it? Personally I am glad I moved, and dropped my Epic. Sprint in a lot of places in the states were a joke. AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile had better overall reception in the places I traveled.
personally I'd pay more for services I can use than pay less for services I can't use or barely use.

i just upgraded from SERO to SERO Premium (finally got rid of my Sprint Mogul ZOMG!) and got an Epic 4G and my bill went to $40 not $50...
If you were not paying the extra $10 before the change & have to swap out a defective device make sure you don't swap into a loaner phone. When you get your replacement device Sprint may try to charge you. I work for a Sprint repair center & its a pain to get Sprint care to remove the charge.

Over all it's less then $240 because Verizon tends to discount their phones much more then Sprint ever does. VzW has, in the past year, given away the Fascinate for free and done BOGO. What has Sprint done with the Epic? They've only recently reduced the price to $200 from $250. The fascinate on Verizon started at $200, so that's $50 saved up front. And if you got it for free, you would have saved $10 by being on Verizon ... which has a much better network.
Believe me, Sprint isn't doing anyone any favors... Other then maybe the folks on SERO.
