Video player - XPERIA X2 General

Can anyone recommend a video player for the X2? Something that will play xvid/avi/divx whatever is the popular format nowadays. The one that plays when in slideview mode is nice but I think it contributes to crashes.

Slideview Builtin player uses GL acceleration, so its even smoother than coreplayer. Try playing the default video (the one with the guy that turns upside down) on Slideview then on coreplayer. I wish coreplayer were ready to use GL in this phone
Not sure if Slideview plays DivX or not

MP3/Media Player

I know this has probably been listed in the past, but what MP3/Media Player do you use?
If possible, include a link to where it can be downloaded.

Is there any player with the balance meter (left/right)?
Sure TCPMP is the best at playing all sort of media
When I can't see a video on my pc, 80% chances are that TCPMP will read it
And it has a lot of features eg. the speed of playback, equalizer.. With the last one u can even boost up the loudspeaker volume!
Finally, it's rather simple to use: with hotkeys for everything u can do anything...
Only drawback is poor quality of 3gp playback and no midi at all: but I'm using album app for these
Saluti, MocciJ
PocketMusic for mp3's (skinable and has a nice equaliser function) and BetaPlayer for video (simple and I convert everything to DivX and it handles them with no probs)
Are yo able to playback fullsize Divx files smoothly in TCPMP.
I have a Magician and if I stream 720x480 divx video over wifi on playback from a SD card the video will always stutter. I get about 10s and then it pauses. Seems like a buffer issue.
Are there any tweaks for TCPMP or will overclocking the Magician help?
TCPMP for videos and MortPlayer for MP3s with my A2DP headset.
Gsplayer by greensoftware [freeware]. Turns screen automatic off, functions can be mapped to hardware buttons.

full sized 700mb divx movie files play fine running from SD on my magician (using tcpmp)
But ill normally resize and reencode, but it is handy being able to run stuff without encoding first, if theres not time to do etc.

Best free media player?

Whats the best free media player for the X1? I have a lot of DIVX files that I want to put on my X1.
TCPMP .. but it wont manage to play most of them.
Its commercial brother CorePlayer is a bit better and faster, but does not suffice for most movies either.
Only way how to play movies in reasonable quality is to convert them and use WMP or media panel, since they use hardware support.
There are hundreds topics covering this so please do some searching.

Is CorePlayer better than the built in player for playing MP3s?
CorePlayer is good for everything in my opinion. You get Youtube with it too. It's not free though.

Hard to judge. Both work. In mp3 playback I think Coreplayer is same as TCPMP.
Coreplayer sometimes creates clicks in the playback, even with 'higher priority' option on. And it sometimes draws album art distorted, but only with QTv display driver. But then you will usually have this driver selected, unless you only play MP3 and no video.
On the other hand, Core player (and TCPMP too) has equalizer, and has better playlist management, can play in background.
no one uses mortplayer?

Does a good free media player exist?

It has been quite some time since I have used windows mobile, so my search for a good free media player capable of playing h.264 videos (or just most codecs nowadays) as turned up empty. Is the only way to play current media with an expensive program?
I can play h.264 (in .mp4 file) through the HTC player but no video shows up.
I appreciate any suggestions.
Try this version of TCPMP. In the Video menu set the renderer to DirectDraw, and check Dither and Smooth Zoom (100%). Then, on the DirectDraw page of the Settings menu(s), uncheck all the boxes and set the overlay format to YUY2.
TCPMP works okay for things like xvid avi's but for playing .mp4 files you should always use either HTCAlbum or Pocket Media Player - those are the only two video player apps that can use hardware acceleration on the HD2.

Windows Media player Vs Coreplayer

Hey everyone.
Wanted to find out if Coreplayer is worth buying for the HD2? Currently just installed myplayer app and forced to switch the player to WM player but wondering if the quality of streaming or video playback is better in coreplayer?
I'm not too fussed right now about codecs and functionality although no doubt I will be in a few weeks when i dont have a codec for a video but I'm wondering if there are any improvements in purely video quality only in coreplayer compared to WM player?
Thanks

hey dude...i have both installed and i have few dvd that i have ripped onto my phone by using spb mobile dvd. I have viewed videos through both players...and they both works fine and could not tell any difference, however what i have noticed is the buttons on coreplayer are more responsive, for instance you could fast forward a track or video easily rather than the WM player
i hope that helps
The main advantage i have found with coreplayer is watching internet TV streams. These seem to sun much smoother.
for the best performance/video quality its best to recode video to MP4 and use the htc album player to watch the movie/documentary about maggie thatcher (or whatever source you have)
The main disadvantage of the CorePlayer is a lack of AC3 sound codec compatibility.
When you open a movie with sound in AC3 - it just won't play.

And WMP plays AC3 fine?
To me Coreplayer seems to be way faster, plus it plays most videos without converting.. wmp does not play any of my avis..

HTC Videos vs RockPlayer

I just noticed for the first time that HTC Video supports AVI files. I have been using RockPlayer in Software mode with success, but it kills battery like crazy.
RockPlayer is smoother, but I wonder how HTC's battery use compares.
I will of course find out for myself, but I wonder what other people have experienced
SRS enhancement is a plus
how about vplayer
That will also be software based, so probably the same. The native player should be hardware mode, but is pretty choppy with standard "scene" video files. I'll do a test run this week to see how the battery usage compares
well the native player is hardware accelerated or at least it is for .mp4 with x254 video i havnt tried avi but i would assume that it would also be hardware accelerated or at least the renderer would be. alternative players are usless cause they dont support hardware on the adreno 205 yet
Hardware accelerated yes, but software players are still smoother!
just used "power tutor" to compare power used during one Simpson episode using two players.
According to "power tutor" the Internal video player used about half the power that RockPlayer did (with HW acc enabled)
Yes, I know this is not the perfect comparison.
The total power used should be measured, in case one offloads much more to the hardware than the other one.
An perfect comparison should be:
-boot
-radio off
-start measuring total power consumption
-play video for xx minutes
-stop measuring power consumption.
Guys, how do you manage to play xvid with built in video player?
When I put a video on my SD card, it appears in stock player but with no screenshot, only some weird small icon. Selecting the video does nothing at all.

Who plays Xvid ? - the simpsons episodes are H264 with MPEG4 AAC audio -both preview & playback work fine.
what we need - is players like VLC, core-player or tcpmp for Android. - VLC - being open-source & up-to-date - would be absolutely best.
I think Vplayer.beta is the best so far however it doesn't allow me to change audio channels but it was a lot smoother than rock player when playing a dual audio track; also seems to eat battery life. otherwise rock player is great.
