The reason I'm asking is because I see a lot of people pre-ordering and they say it's $199. I wanted to see if anyone was still on contract or would still be on a contract by the time the Evo comes out. I wanted to see if the people on contract were still getting the phone for $199 from BB or the shack. I know the $199 is for a $150 discount with a 2 year plan and an up-front $100 rebate.
On-contract as in "not eligible for an upgrade?" I know that RadioShack is not taking pre-orders for full retail purchases, and Best Buy is gouging the price to $600 for those not on contract. I'm going to pre-order from Sprint when they start accepting in-store (some places actually already have).

I wonder what would be the price if I tell BB that I'm contract now but I want to renew (restart my 2yr contract). Would they just take $100 off the retail price? Guess I have to go in to BB sometime tomorrow to see how this all works. Maybe I'll try the shack as well.
Can they really inflate the price that high when retail (According to sprint) is suppose to be $450? I guess Sprint will have to take my money then and I'll have to wait 10-14 weeks for a rebate.

The $100 rebate is only for new contracts and people with their 22-month full upgrade. The 12-month (non-premier) upgrade is just $75 off retail.
And yes, Best Buy can gouge all they want to.
Under Contract with TMO
I'm under contract with T-Mobile but with still 5 months left. Going to terminate the contract (only $100). Rather cough up the money than continue to use my G1 for the next five months. I want the Evo NOW.
Same here. I'm upgrading from my hero (which I got in December ) so I think your better seeing the device in a sprint store then buying it full out.
im dropping my plan to the lowest ($20/mo.) on vzw and already preordered from radio shack

what about ppl adding another line? I pre paid on the phone already and would go back and get my money if I can't get the phone by adding another line. None of my other 2 lines are able to upgrade since I just did that 6 months ago.

Adding another line is considered a new activation therefore you would get the phone for $199.
Where is everyone getting this 600$ quote from. At my BB the guy said he "thinks its like 600" which means that he was going off the rumoured off contract price.I don't see BB raising the price of a phone higher than it's MSRP.

Oh you don't? Go to Best Buy and try to buy a Hero or a Moment off contract and enjoy paying $600 or $630, respectively!
I preordered as a current customer without an upgrade available for my phone number. I just upgraded another line on my account, and will swap hardware after I have the phone in my hand.
could somebody help me figure this out a bit?
i have the HTC Hero, bought and signed with a new 2 year contract in november 2009.
so is there any way i could get the $199 price on the evo? i think you can get the EVO but you have to sign another 2 year contract even though i'm only 6 months in?
i did it today

No. You are stuck paying the full price. I am a smart one though. I had a Sprint account back in the day, left with good standing. I ran into credit issues and about a year back had to pay a deposit so I just went on my father's plan with my fiancee instead. Well, I just got my Hero in October, 2 yr contract. Called up Sprint. They told me to get the Evo in my name, new account with a new phone number. Then afterward, get my dad and transfer my Hero line into my account. I get the 2 yr new activation price for the Evo, I keep my number and I don't have to pay the ETF. Life is f-ing sweet!

Yes but I don't pay for those lines. The owner's of the lines do. I will now be on my own plan, by myself with no ties to them. This isn't the solution for everyone but I figured maybe if someone is in the same situation it may help them.
Radio Shack would not let me upgrade, because I am not eligible until June 1st for upgrade. I just went over to Best Buy and signed right up.
Also, the rep at Radio Shack was not clear as to whether or not I would get the phone on Launch day or not. The Best Buy mobile manager told me for sure that I would get it then. I wanted to try Radio Shack first, simply because of the $20 of free accessories, but hey, you win some, you lose some.
then again, in the case of the Evo, I think we all win
It's like they timed this specifically for Palm Pre Premier owners... Friggin awesome.

If you go through sprint, you'll probably have to renew your 2 yr contract so that it starts up at June 4th, or whenever you get the EVO. You won't get the $150 upgrade discount, but you'll get the $100 mail-in-rebate though.
I believe this is what you'll go through because this is what I'm thinking will happen for me. I too bought the Hero in Nov. 09. But in the past when renewing a contract, Sprint has always just restarted my contracts when I wanted a new contract.
Do to the retail cost that BB and the shack might, I'm going to go through sprint, but not the sprint store. If you go through the sprint store, you'll have to pay the $36 activation fee. Most of the phones that you buy online through Sprint, don't charge an activation fee, so I'm thinking (hoping) this will be through for the EVO when they start selling them online.
I'm still on contract and pre-ordered with best buy, was quoted $199
Related
Why are so many people getting the EVO off-contract? It's more expensive, and you can only use it on sprints network anyways, so why bother?
or is there something i'm missing, from what I can tell all I have to do is go to BB, pre-order and pay $50 and get the gift card, then go get my phone on the 4th and pay $150 + the gift card.....right?
What you are probably missing is that we are all already ON contract. Most of us, being Android fans, probably bought the Hero in October. 7-8 months later, the Evo comes out, well we are already on contract. You know what I mean?

Oh so your not elegible to upgrade, I haven't used my upgrade discount yet so I can get it for $200 even though i'm in contract right now.
My upgrade isn't until October so instead of wasting that on a measly $75 off I am buying at full price.

Unlike the other carriers, with sprint you can re-up every year if your a premier member, and it doesn't stack. When i get my evo it just extends my contract date 2 years from that date, so instead of my contract being up 6/2011 it will be up 6/2012
unsubsidized also cause if I wanted to sell it I could easierI'm not with sprint.
Another reason is the people on employee/partner plans. We don't get upgrades due to our pricing.
Well i was able to get the vibrant for Tmobile for 64.99 with 2 year commitment with $20 unlimited data loyalty plan, No upgrade/ activation fee, and free 3 day shipping and intant rebate. I was offered same deal on all 5 of my lines but will only take it up on one since i want to save the other upgrades for future phone releases. Only bad part is i wont get the vibrant until tuesday .
Im thinking of picking up one at tmobile tomorrow for retail price which is$439 to play with until mine comes in and then just return it, but i dont think tmobile will like that much.
Just really happy to get such a great deal and looking foward to android coming from the iphone platform

He has 5 lines. Phone companies always treat people based on how much they pay a month. The more you pay on your phone bill the more likely you are to get deals and fee's waived.
Also I see this confusion a LOT. $439 vs $499. It seems the $439 price is only for current customers, or people well into their contract. The $499 is for everyone else.

Ive been with tmo for 8 years and have 5 lines so im sure that helped. Basicly all my lines are out of contract and had previous considered going to ATT for new iphone. Tmobile offered free upgrades on all lines for any phone they had at that time with all fees waived. But they didnt have the vibrant out yet, so they told me to call once it was out to see what deal i could have. I called once it became availabe and they offered to waived all fees, bump up shipping and and additional $100 credit to regular upgrade. They ended up giving me additional $135 because i mentioned my upgrade only said 164.99, which was different from their $199, so they just added $35 to match the price.
Tmobile takes care of their customers! I have no issues being on a commitment with them.

I paid $499.99
i paid 499.99 also, and i've been with t-mobile for 9 years with 4 phones.
got one offered for $429+taxes (~$460) as my early upgrade price (i bought my mt3g aug last year).
moved on to the retentions folks who brought it down to $249 + taxes, which is only $50 more than a brand new contract, i was sold on that. had them make the note on my account and picked it up in-store locally for the same price! =)
loving the phone so far, big upgrade from the mytouch3g.
can't wait to get CM6 on this baby.
btw, im having market issues currently - "download failed" error. was initially able to download a couple apps, but none now despite several reboots.

fuuuckkk so us G1 users are screwed?! my upgrade doesn't take affect till august something (got the g1 on release date) i wanted the phone for 100 bucks
I just got off the phone with a sprint rep and she informed me that even If I pay full price for the phone I still qualify for the $100 rebate since it’s a manufacturing rebate. I thought that rebate only applied to new or upgrading customers. Now I know she WORKS for sprint and she should know the correct answer, but I have such little faith in them. Does anyone here know if that information is correct? The reason I ask is because I was thinking about ordering it from Amazon, but if I'm still eligible for the $100 rebate I might as well get it from sprint since I would be paying the same price anyway, and getting a $100 back in a couple months.
Since it’s a manufacturing rebate, should it matter where I purchased the phone from to get the rebate?
look at the rebate form. It will say what the conditions to it are, and it usually says with a two year contract. If the rebate goes to Samsung then maybe, but usually they are a generic Sprint rebate where you check off what phone you have.
example: http://shop.sprint.com/assets/pdfs/en/promotions/mir_091110.pdf
I thought everyone was elidgible for the $100 mail-in, but the instant $150 or $75 was dependant on your contract? Could be wrong..

I am confused because I have one sprint store tellng me you only get it with a 2 year 150 upgrade and I have another store telling me you get it on a 1 year upgrade as long as you sign a new 2 year contract... Who is correct?
If I am reading correctly it seems you get a $100 mir on a the 1 year $75 upgrade signing a new 2 year contract..

I thought that as well... I really hope that is the case.
Don't listen to anything a Sprint rep says. That's one thing I learned when I was with Sprint under 30 days with the EVO and when I emailed them asking why the tv-out feature is removed from the Epic 4G. I swear they have apes working there. I sent a detailed email about what tv-out does on the other Galaxy S devices, and the reply I got from Sprint was informing me of Sprint TV. What a bunch of fools

Okay I'm confused...
I ordered a Nexus S from best buy for $199 and it just arrived today... I called tmobile to activate the phone and they said I can get setup on this Even More Plus plan which has no contract and is $20 cheaper than the regular plan... not knowing anything about this I just said sure????
So now I'm reading more about this Even More Plus stuff on T-Mobile and it says you have to buy a phone at full price to qualify for this price.... buuuuut I paid bestbuy $199 for the phone.... how/why/huuuuuuh?????
So... I verified on my tmobile account that it is infact setup as the Even More Plus for $59.99/month... and also verified bestbuy billed me $199 for the phone...
what am I missing?
It does say that you might get an ETF added onto your account if you started a new 2-year plan already -- might want to look into that.

He'll be OK. I went into a tmobile store to activate it and they switched it after the fact. Basically treated as a price plan adjustment. doesn't require a new contract.

But that's what I'm saying... they didn't start a 2-year plan on my account... and I didn't have tmobile previously (this is new service).
I've called and talked to a few people now on tmobile and they're all telling me I have no contract...
Isn't bestbuy getting ripped here? Shouldn't they have charged me $529 for the phone if I was going to get this no contract plan with tmobile?
Weird... I did the same thing, but mine auto-activated. And I was given a 2-year contract with my Nexus S. If you don't have a contract though, kudos. You saved over $300 and $20 monthly!
I would chalk it up to their mistake and your win. Congrats. I love Even more Plus

I didn't even know about it until now... I hadn't really payed too much attention to the plans, I was more so getting the phone to try it out. At this "deal" I can't really give it back though... lol
Bestbuy.com has been having problems with their mobile orders communicating with T-Mobile. It took me 2 days and hours on hold to actually get this phone ordered and the person I finally got to push the order through for me said there was a communication error going to T-Mobile... so he pushed it through "manually" and shipped me the phone... Well, when I got the phone the SIM card it came with wasn't activated so I called and they're telling me no contract.
yay?
yay!
Now just to adjust to the blueish tint on this screen and I can finally be happy...
Damn, explain how you did it. I would like to try this out!
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Well T-Mobile officially sucks as far as service.
I wonder what will happen if I discontinue service with T-Mobile when I'm on a plus plan... will this come back to bite me in the butt later from best buy or do they no additional ties after selling me the phone???
Here is a catch: you still have to oblige the remainder of contract even you migrated to EM+.
For example, if you signed 2 years contract today and change to EM+ 6 months later, you still have to oblige the rest of 18 months and still subject to ETF if you have your number cutoff or ported out.
This happened on me as I was on 2 years contract after obtained TM717 with contract and migrated to EM+ 8 months later.

Ya but I didn't sign a 2 year contract then go to EM+ 6 months later... I signed up at best buy for new service then called T-Mobile and activated the phone with EM+ and they say I have no contract. As far as I can tell, I could easily just port my number and get no ETF because no contract. Unless best buy follows up with it somehow?

$349 on 2 year agreement + $200 off for old phone + free headphones (msrp of $149) = basically free (assuming the headphones really are worth the $150
That's honestly not bad. Although keep in mind that in order to get the headphones you have to go to the lg promotion website and type in your IMEI and take a pic of your receipt and upload it there, similar to the process of getting the gear fit or as card with the Note 7 a few months back. And because of that it takes a few weeks to process.
How the hell did you get them to let you do a normal subsidized purchase? They did away with that a few years ago! lol If this was still around I'd be still buying my phones this way instead of being forced into stupid leases... I loved the ability to buy my phone for like, 300 bucks... then when a new phone came out, I just sell the current phone on ebay or something and get almost double what I paid. then use that money to outright purchase the 'new' phone. Best method of buying phones period! lol. Who cares if its a 'two year agreement' because the phone was basically an out right full purchase since with no monthly payments, meaning the phone is YOURS to do with as you please. The agreement is just basically you saying you'll use their services for 2 years. So after that first year, and that new phone comes out, you can just walk in and buy the new phone and activate it no problem. Did this for YEARS until they stopped the subsidizing D:
The $200 phone rebate does not apply to on-contract purchases AFAIK.
I also got the exact same rebates that nest75068 got. I picked mine up from Best Buy on to 26th, so my $200 was a Best Buy gift card. I believe that as long as you are on an older contract they will still honor the 2 year contract. When I was purchasing mine the other day I was in store for 3.5 hours arguing that the 2yrs were still active for my account. I had 6 people in cellular department telling me no they were not. They finally called their Sprint rep after 3 hours and he told them to just TRY to ring it up, which I also told them soon as I got there. Guess what, it rang up fine and everyone working couldn't believe it. I think it's scary that no one in the department knew this and none of them ever saw a V20. Between returning my Note 7 twice and buying the V20 I was in the store a full 10 hours. All the promotions are nice but not sure that it makes up for all the frustration & aggravation.

I believe this is incorrect. I just ordered this on Sprint Wednesday. The V20 is not offered on a 2 year contact and the $200 off for phone trade-in is only when you select to pay with 24 month installments. At least, this is what was told to me by the 10+ representatives I talked to trying to figure this mess out.

Interesting. They wouldn't let me buy it that way and I always do 2 year contracts.
False. Just like others are saying, $200 buy back ONLY for 24 months installation and not the 2-year contract. I've called and spoke with several telesales and website clearly shows just that.
Like I stated above, I also was able to purchase on 2 year. If you log into your sprint account it should show options to buy as 24 monthly payments, full price, and mine gave me option for 2 year contract for $350. I had to do some arguing to get any one to remotely listen to what I had to say. I also did get $200 from BestBuy with the 2 year contract pricing.
I doubt there's any hope of getting the contract and the $200 discount via Sprint. Best Buy, on the other hand, might be worth a visit and the hassle.

Good luck, best buy in northern California wouldn't even bother if they hear 2-year contract. I was told that sprint wont allowed Bestbuy to process any 2-year contract starting the beginning of October. Only option for us who choose to stick to 2 years upgrade is via Sprint website or over the phone.
