yeah i have had mine almost a week now i noticed it after i removed that plastic screen thing that was on the back of the screen.
it seems kinda cheap feeling when i push down on the screen and i hear it sweak and move every time. should i take it back?
Mine started sqeaking and creaking today. NOOOOO!
I only had it for 2 days. I kept the plastic on the back of the screen and it still does this by the way. Its too awesome of a phone for this litte stuff to bother me though. I came from a Touch Dual that had a solid keyboard for a little over a year before it became wobbly and squeky before it final died. So I imagine its better sooner than latter cause you just adapt the longer you use it.
My 2 Cents,
Jcostanza4
I had the same problem the first day I got mine. I'm still trying to figure out a way to keep it from squeaking/creaking. Honestly it's just annoying right now. My TYTN II was a brick compared to this phone as far as size and weight. If I figure anything out I'll post it up.
The only idea I've had so far is to take one of my old Palm screen shields and use it on the back of the screen. However since I ordered a Zagg full body protector I think I actually might get that piece with the set. Like I said I'll post up when I got more info.
try adding a little strip of adhesive felt to the upper part of the chin (where it meets the screen when closed). Works for me. Actually, if you want to test this out or cant find the felt, take three post it notes(together for the right thickness), cut them down, black out with a magic marker, and you'll get the same effect. Barely noticable.
yes mines loose too you feel it when you only hold the bottom and tap the screen u here the screen and the body click.

Maybe you're pressing too hard? Mine creaks if I really press down hard.
On my wing, I had to press down hard, it's built for a stylus.
But this device is built for your fingers, and should respond with a very light touch. Try using it with barely touching it, if it doesn't respond try pressing a tiny bit harder, you should not have to push down hard enough to make the screen creak -- unless the screen is badly attached, in which case I would take it back to the store.
this is what happens when HTC wants a thin, light phone with a hardware qwerty
it doesnt bother me much though
Hey all. Just got my desire hd today from carphone warehouse. I love this handset! Best phone I've ever had by a country mile! Only problem is its got something trapped inbetween the screen and digitizer. Looks like dust or a small shard of metal. Really disappointed. I know the desire had this problem but just wanted to know if anyone else has this problem with their hd. It's really annoying as I can't take my eyes of it when using the phone, especially when the screen is on a white background. What do you think peeps, should I return it? , after all I've got it for 2 years.

definitely take it back and get a fresh one, if they don't have any in stock I guess you'll have to be patient, but you can't accept faulty goods.
Yeah, that was my thoughts too. Just don't want to come across ocd! . Love the phone but build quality on these things should be better considering the price of them. Used a hero for the last 18 months and never had any screen issues.

Is it possible to see some pics of that dust under the glass?
Thanks!
BUMP......
Hey guys. Seems most of the posts were deleted during the "clean up". I contacted the mod to get this thread back but it appears half of it is missing. Anyway got my replacement today and It's perfect. Apart from all the known issues!

I got this issue either, and I can't keep my eyes off it!
I propably going back to the shop with it to get a new one, because I just got it a day.
But i'm afraid that they won't see it, because my mother can't see it either.
So maybe I need to ignore it, but will be hard for me
One of the biggest failures of the original Desire in my opinion was the dust that got in under the screen. For an example of the one I sent back with this problem have a look here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTF0fFN5Y60
Now I would HOPE that HTC have learned from this and rectified the problem but I have just been looking at the ads on eBay and noticed this in one of the item descriptions:
"The unit i have at the moment has 1 speck of dust under the screen and i am receiving a replacement unit this week, so the one you will be buying will be brand new"
Seems with this and the experiences of users here that HTC have not resolved this problem after all. A HUGE disappointment as there is no way I could put up with this once I know the dust is there even if it's only visible in certain lighting conditions!
I got one small black dot of dust under my glass. Thought it was a dead pixel at first, but its too high for that upon examination.
May take it back since I paid a lot of money for it.

same i also have just 1 speck at the top right corner, not sure if ill bother replacing, but i do also have a dead pixel at the bottom right corner so its defintely tempting..
I have had many HTC devices over the years and a few have had problems with dust ingress. especially my topaz and c500 where very bad.
The problem was bad sealing around the volume rocker, is this the same problem? or maybe dust has been induced during manufacture of phone?
well mine had dust under the screen from straight out of the box and it wasn't anywhere near the volume rocker

presume it was swapped out without any hassle?
i had the same experience. bought a desire z and after a few weeks a lot of dust has accumulated on the top part of the scree. so i sold it and got a desire hd, im not sure if there were two speck of dusts on top of the screen but now there are. im trying to stop being an oc and fidgeting about these things but i am quite disappointed. had 5 htc phones and this is the first time i experienced this. hopefully it wont get worse.

I'm the same way. I have the smallest piece of dust you could ever see (like half of a pixel). It's actually opposite the volume buttons, and right on the edge where if it was one pixel over to the right more, it would be off the visible screen. You can't even notice it unless you have a pure white background, but I know it's there, and it annoys me. Also after three months with my DHD I just noticed when the screen is on, and I look at the black boarder around the screen (I have to sort of angle it in the light), the right side seems to be off just a bit (there is more screen boarder in between the right side of the screen and the outer black boarder than there is on the left). Like the alignment of the under screen is tilted a bit, but when I have horizontal or vertical lines on the screen, they all line up perfect, and none are cut off like what my eyes would think they would be, so it seems like an optical illusion. Just me and my OCD.
I've been using this HD2 for atleast 2 Months.
And i love it.
I wonder, Are Hd2's hardware buttons and volume buttons fragile?
Will they wear out if you're using it daily?
I'm currently using soft buttons on CM7ite cause i don't know how long HD2's button will last.
I'm afraid one day all the buttons won't work.
:'(
I love IceCreamTosti and it's soft buttons but i can't play games such as Temple Run
Screen won't respond on the game. But on homescreen it does respond.
yea try not to be too heavy on the buttons, especially the power button.
They are not the best, but suppose lucky to get any with cost cutting on manufacturing has forced all touch.
had my Qtek S100 (Magician) out the other day & boy the buttons feel like new still & they got some serious use in its 4yr role.
Even the over engineered Kaiser d-pad was a sloppy effort compared the S100.
Latest Htc device I played with with decent buttons was the Desire, shame that button & scroll wheel was not implemented on the HD2 as the button strip used on the HD2 really is one of those step backward design concepts ...
Man, I remembered my Vivaz.I'm afraid all of it's physical button get wear out i used a lock key replacement( ya know assign other hotkey to lock your device) I used the damn volume up + volume down. Now the volume buttons are split into two.
I think i should have taken the Ace or the Galaxy S.Damn.
I don't want to sell my HD2. Because i love it's ability to have multiple OSes.
And this Hd2 was bought by my dad for me. So.
I really don't want to sell it.
What is the best ICS rom out there for HD2?
IceCreamTosti prevents my HD2 from playing games.

I don't think they are, and I don't really know why so many people are having problems with them. My 2-year-old HD2's buttons are still up and running just fine.
And there are no best ICS ROMs, you won't be able to play games on any current ICS ROM.
My opinion
Even not a very strong construction, I'd say it's more important the manner and frequency you press/push those buttons rather than being fragile.
I mean if you're a strong fingers person and not controlling very well this force it is more probable for you a premature failure of those buttons.
I have big hands but fortunately, i can control the pressure i'm giving on my hd2's buttons.
Just curious about hd2's buttons.
For those who are concerned about damaging their hardware buttons, you can install "zmooth lite" to mimic hardware buttons. Works like a charm, it's one of the first tools I install on any new version of Android I am testing.

I too have had my device close to 2yrs with no button problem but with amount of users who do have button issues & looking at them & button board internally they are not the strongest. Lots of use & certainly over heay pressing will soon lead to issues.
Quality of buttons has reduced drastically these days as they are expensive production component ...
I've had mine 2 years now, and with heavy use (especially on the power and back button) I've never had any issues.

Exactly, I don't understand the issues everyone is constantly talking about, to be honest. No, the buttons are not fragile and no, they don't wear out quickly. However, the panic spread by those who were for whatever reason unlucky to have problems creates a myth and everyone looks for a solution to the non-existent issue. I never had an HD2 in for buttons repair and believe me, I had seen a lot of phones of all brands with various things.
I agree ^ The buttons are not fragile at all, the coating on top does wear out over time but it is not a big thing...
I agree with enigma1nz too. I've had my phone for just over two years. I've now been able to stay on a ROM longer then a week (finally) but have done many many flashes of everything the HD2 has to offer. I have never had a problem with my phone at all. Just take care of your phone. Dont put a lot of pressure on it or bring it in the bathroom while you shower, clean it ever once in awhile, perhaps keep it in a gel skin and if you can buy a clear-coat screen protector to cover the whole phone and you will have a great looking and 100% functional phone for long to come. You can't even tell my phone is over two years old and for a cell phone thats pretty damn old. lol.
Yes ,you are righ.HD2's buttons is quitely fragile.

Have to agree. I bought my HD2 used and it's obvious the previous owner used the power button a lot. Enough that I had to remove the Windows Phone 7 ROM I had on mine because it relies on the power button a great deal and it's simply become too intermittent. Checked with a couple local cell repair shops in the area and replacing the keypad flex cable, which is the likely culprit and prone to failure, will be $75-100. Getting to that part is quite labor intensive.
I also have one question, this thread is perfect for me I can say. I had 2 of them and both had hardware issues few months after varranty has been expired, so that was close to 500€ i throwed away.
I am in love with HTC phones, I said to myself that I will never have another HD2, and I have changed a lot op phones, last one was Desire HD and right now I am using ARC which is horrible for me, not so many good ROM-s and generally only HDMI output is good on this phone. I have a chance to replace ARC for HD2, guy never had anything except winmo on it and he has never did any experiment widt nand or something. I wonder now since my last 2 phones had buttons problems power and vol down were broken, is there any touch based recovery available because I love that feature.
Back then when I had this phone there wasnt an option for Meego or windows 7 so I would like to take this phone again but I have a very big fear of it.
And I also had problems with CPU overheating and stops responding, especcialy youtube clips etc, is this fixed recently....
Plase can you help me with some advices.

Well
they said for this app
Top 1 Software key App on Android Market
Top 10 Must have app for root devices
Top 1 Must have app on HTC HD2
Top 1 Software key app with best customization features
Works from 1.5 to 4.0(ICS)
Guess that is for the reason
THX
Try either
1. Zmooth or
2. Button savior
Been using zmooth for so long now.... Can't even think of android without it....
In wp7... You can change button configuration inside the settings.. I use the middle hard key also as back button.... If only wp7 too gets something like Zmooth or some sfw keys, then it will be double the fun

I've bought mine with half broken back hw button. U can't feel the "click" when u press it, but hey it still does the job n works even better without the click IMO
Anyone else seeing their DHD screen starting to lift off the phone from the charger end of the device?
Mine has been doing it for a while now. I can press it back down and you can hear the glue/tape sticky sound but it just wont stay in place.
Not causing any issue with the phone but my guess is that it will totally peal off eventually.
Common issue?
Any fix other than new glue/tape?
Yep, same here. The bottom right corner is lifted a bit and can be pressed down but will pop up again soon after :/
Haven't noticed on my DHD but I always have it in an otterbox so...

Nope, not noticed anything on mine yet.
Wil have a real good look in a sec and post back....

Mine has been doing that since I bought it probably around a year ago. It doesn't seem to have any ill effects on the phone's operation and it hasn't gotten any worse - at first I was cautious with it but now I don't even notice.
Rees
i think its actually the external cover that is contibuting to it.
You have to peal it up and over the corners and I wonder is it having a pulling effect on them that is casing the screen to lift.
Other with this issues use covers?
Anyway, not causing any problem just yet but the phone has a flimsy feel at the bottom half.
Pull it up to far and the screen becomes unresponsive. So don't try to take a look underneath the phone. Contact HTC and send your screen in if it gets bad, they'll replace and or fix your phone if you have a warranty with them. Shouldn't take terribly long but be prepared to wait a couple of weeks.
Nothing with the mine one too as well!!
Hey guys, I'm about to buy a 2nd hand Nexus S from some guy on a local forum and we're going to do the exchange in person. What should I check on the phone before I give him the $$? Any common glitches common to this phone?
For example, I was using the Nexus One before this one, and I know the multitouch screen is wonky for some of the AMOLED models for that one, and the trackball gets dirt in it. Anything like that for the NS? Thanks guys!

I would say one of the most important things would to make sure the volume rocker and the power button feel solid. This is the most heard of problem in the nexus s forums. We haven't really experienced problems like burn in but you can check for that by running a full screen app like a game at max brightness.
Good point, the volume rocker on my N1 was starting to act up with age too.

Speak for yourself on that one. The buttons at the bottom got burned into mine from having the display stay on while charging.
burn on screen dont matter if u can see buttons at bottom for search back home ect as there used alot and are off the main screen and volume and power buttons even tho mine are still like new after 2 years if they have gone than there may be more problems elsewhere always play music and volume brightest to see if anything wrong with screen and sound i would play a game
Make sure the signal works. That would be a sign of a stolen phone. Apart from that its the usual of checking scratches, any big dents, making sure the buttons are working ok
My screen is still as nice as when I bought it, but the entire thing is covered in ghost armor. Hate the glossy fat bezel and though. Even cased it shows tiny less shiny scuffs on it though its never been dropped or in anything but silicone and tpu. 99% of people wouldn't even be able to see it, but I'm anal. I went through 8 phones to find a good screen and no glass crease. Foolish when I ended up getting a galaxy nexus just 13 months after paying full price for it from best buy. Buttons all work too after 4+ hours a day of use.

Make sure to check for touch sensitivity across the middle and bottom of the screen. I bought a second hand nexus s and didn't recognize the problem until it was too late.
The middle of the screen on my nexus s pretty much doesn't work sometime and starts working after I turn the screen off then on again.
Hope this helps.

1: buttons work
2: call *2 or whatever the cellular company's number is (Sprint will happily verify an ESN if you are buying used)
3: screen
4: is it rooted? (I would rather root myself, so I know it is done right, If I buy used, I buy stock)
5: GPS Signal
Verify SIM connector pins are important too.
Closed, thread here talking about the same issue.
In future search before posting.
Thank you.
