Custom rom = broken street view? - Hero CDMA General

OK correct me if I'm wrong but after doing some searching it seems I'm not the only one with Google street view problems.
Is this a problem because I'm using a 2.1 ROM thats not yet the official sprint release?
Or is it because I applied the OpenGL update/patch to get live wallpapers working?
Right now I'm running fresh 2.0d I would like to stay with this ROM if you guys think this will be fixed whenever we see the official 2.1 release. honestly its not a big deal as I rarely use it.
ps. I did not mean the title of this thread to be disrespectful to any of the hardworking devs, just not sure what to title it.

Will applying the "undo" openGL patch found on the geekfor.me site fix this?
Are there any other fixes for this besides what i just mentioned?

Technically the "undo" patch puts it back how it should be to begin with.
Applying the OpenGL patch causes more issues than it fixes for most people. But if you really must have that duck hunt LWP - the option is there.

Now of only sprint would get the buts in gear and release that update!

Yeah, there hasn't been any work done in the donut branch yet. So, at the moment, it's the same code as 1.5

It said Firmware Version 1.5. Build number 1.5 Cupcake.
i didnt take another second to flash Jf1.5. took me 1 whole day to solve compilation issues and saw 1.5 cupcake in the end.
Words like "cupcake" and "donut" are not equivalent to version numbers like 1.5 and 2.0. They are moving targets. As noted above, if you download donut today, you will get nearly the same code as cupcake.

That's because Google didn't add flashplayer, HTC did. The source tree is the open source code from Google. I'm talking about the closed source version that HTC is working on, on there own, for the HTC Hero. Improvements made by outside companies won't show up in the Google source tree.

hmph. i find it rather annoying that you guys are listening to this forum that is simply using a completely pre-alpha build i provided to give you guys feedback.
the browser they have in that build has the flash player libraries, if you run the browser test, flash is supported.
the profile (which i posted earlier) does not mention flash, thus websites doesn't believe we have flash. above that, the browser.apk is INCOMPLETE as i've been saying.
flash IS supported, and WILL work, as soon as i receive the tutorial build.
please stop posting rumors discovered on any other website. unless it is stated directly by me, Darkrift, or anyone else who is officially testing my latest roms.

That flash plugin is a HTC product, not a part of the AOSP. I'm referring to rumors of flash in the AOSP, although frankly we haven't seen anything promising about the HTC flash plugin either, aside from a screenshot of the plugin directory.

2.1 SDK Released

http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.1.html
2.1 SDK is out. Progress.
Good news.
We'll need the source before we can take advantage of it as the 2.01 audio libs don't work at all... And for anyone wondering, livewallpapers runs extremely slow and is not worth using yet.
Isn't the source available on AOSP? I thought I saw it the other day when picking through the tree?
Audio works I'm running it right now. It's pretty much the same as 2.0.1 with the addition of livewallpapers. The new launcher isn't included. Most likely because the emulator can't handle the graphics.
http://cid-26b659bcabad8994.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/2.1-SDK-Vogue.zip It's just a generic sdk build with no Google apps. Livewalls works but is slow like mssmision said. Give me a couple and I'll see what I can add.
2.1 wow! ...a while ago i made the switch from sprint to vzw & i have been off of my vogue for some time, but am now back to it -i figured out how to get it running on vzw I am looking forward to playing with all the new changes since i have been away!!
Do you think 2.1 will ever become usable on our vogues? or just bits & pieces like past upgrades?? i.e. especially google gps beta -i used that with the droid and it is incredible!
it's neat to see the familiar faces are still around this forum
btw, what do you guys think is the fastest/most stable version right now for me to use? (been away since november!!!)

you could try the new improved tattoo build or any of the donut builds. they should have the new google maps with navigation. if not you can update maps from market. there is also a 2.0.1 build which is almost the same as 2.1. google has already stated that the 2.1 sdk only has minor api changes.

I'm not entirely sure how to do so, but can't we compile this as a build for Vogue?
Well i just booted the nexus dump by replacing system/lib with the one in the sdk and then adding back some missing libs. Not quite usable about as good as Drizzys Droid 2.1.

Wow, interesting.
I've got the Eclair branch (or what I believe to be the Eclair branch, it's labeled as such) from AOSP. I'm building it right now.
I'm optimistic that a clean build from AOSP will run better than the ripped/converted Nexus dump, but as I've never done this before, it's just speculation.
Zen, any advice on setting this up to run natively on the Vogue post-build? Anything I can package/upload for you to play with that might help?
Realistically, what do we have to do to get OpenGL working on Eclair/Flan? Will the G1 update apply to our devices? Having no thumbnails is a real pain, in addition to the occasionally jerky animation.

How many of you (rooted) are skipping the OTA update? I am...

Well... listen to my logic.
Running Cyanogen Beta3 with HiGHMEM Kernel, JIT turned on most of the time.
I have multi-touch in the browser, its not perfect but it works.
If I install the OTA I lose the memory, speed, and cyanogen features... my multitouch improves and 3G improves... but is that worth losing the speed and mem, etc....?
I'm not really sure so I think I'm going to wait until the release of a Cyanogenmod with these updates included.
Any opinons?
I am on CM 5.0 Beta 4 with the new radio (I only get Edge where I live anyways, so technically I never had a 3G problem) multi touch in maps and the gallery, cyan's MT for the browser (I still never use it) along with all the extra RAM. Also, I have the polar clock live wallpapers working (the dynamic ones that didn't work before). I see no reason to lose all that for ummmmm better MT in the browser when I don't use my current MT in the browser.
It really makes me laugh at how worked up people are getting over it. I mean it's nice, but its nothing amazing to me.

You wouldn't be able to flash it onto your phone if it wasn't signed with release keys by google/htc anyways.

Currently Using CyanogenMod 5 Beta 4. I'm just gonna wait till Cyan updates his mod multi-touch isn't a big deal for me. I didn't flash emothers to test it out though but then went back to Cyan because his mod is better.

If they were then a lot of devices would have root very fast. To my knowledge, no one has forged the release keys. We can sign things with test keys and flash them through a recovery that supports flashing .zips that only have been signed with test keys. Also, no, this does not have the new kernel.

Thanks for the hard work, best thing to come to Droid Eris since rooting!
Very cool.
I didn't see it mentioned, does this work on both 1.5 and 2.1 rooted roms?
2.1 root is required for this patch.
If you had previous live wallpapers installed, does installing this on top still work OK? I just did this exact scenario and I can't get the new LW patch you guys just made to run smoothly at all.
I'm thinking a fresh ROM, sense remover, then use this patch for best results?
It should work on any rom. It removes old versions, if active. Are you using sense or Nexus Home?
Nexus home. I dunno, none of the wallpapers are running well for me. I'll have to mess with it more later I guess.
This patch with jamezelle sprint rom makes LWP's work good in sense! The sprint rom already had all of these features (openGL wallpapers ran faster though) but when returning from sleep they would disappear. This patch has seemed to fix that issue in sence, but did slow them down, choppyness.

Is this sipposed to fix the 3d gallery? I loaded the zip and noticed first off the it removes the htc lockscreen, might be worth mentioning... I have tried the 3d gallery on both sense and the nexus launcher. It DOES rotate without problem and it does work sort of. when it displays my list of pictures I only see them briefly and then they get transparent and blend in to the background until nothing is visable. If I click on a spot it will load a picture or an album but I can't see what I'm clicking on. Im using Ivans latest rom btw.

I think it is more for the code guys, because once they release officially then leagally HTC has to release the source (which they probably wont without pestering again) but that will allow the code monkeys (no offence you guys are awesome) to work their magic and get things really improved.

First the OFFICIAL version shouldn't have us running back and forth to FIX little things.
Loading a ROM after the release should be as smooth as say....Fresh 1.1
I haven't had to FIX anything in that ROM and everything works.
My 2 cents is that being able to find the thread you want with the ROM dev you like and then load that ROM would be sweet.
But sifting thru' 200 plus pages and being asked to fix the ROM is weird for me.
Seems the dev would ADD the fix and re-release?.....no?
But like everyone else, I'm waiting for the OFFICIAL release before jumping into making assorted changes which we ALL might have to re-change when the release comes about.
Thanks,
Bubba.

The forums are called 'XDA DEVELOPERS'. If you (not you specifically but in general) are going to ***** and whine because the ROMs you're using aren't 100% flawless...you're in the wrong place. Sit down shut up and wait for the official release. These ROMs aren't perfect, nor are they intended to be...but by and large they're a hell of a lot better than the crap Sprint has consistently put out (both Android and WinMo).
As for 'fixing huge amount of bugs'....umm..I doubt it. I doubt Sprint would even be aware of most of them were it not for developers and testers like those here on XDA.

Thanks,
Bubba.

well i never really had any problems since i rooted and installed the roms that ive gotten from xda (damage 2.0r3 and now 2.07.2) to be honest they have been much more bug free than the stock rom 1.56 that i origionally had. so im sticking with xda and to go back and never be able to root again.... well thats scarry
