What does getting the 6 dollar insurance cover?
- Fly like a G2
Lost, stolen, broken, dropped, water damage... it covers everything. But to get a replace you will have to pay a deductable. I believe its 130??
Sent from my T-Mobile G2
Yup, $130 incase the phone is stolen/lost. The warranty also extends to 2 years instead of 1. And they will service it free of charge if there is physical damage. I took it for the G2 due to the hinge, so over 2 years if the hinge gets REALLY bad I can get a replacement.
The warranty isn't for two years, its for as long as you have it out as long as they support it

I love ins. When someone smarter then I figures out root and I brick my phone trying it will only cost me $130 to replace. At least I won't send it in and pretend like I didn't try to root it

Just a thought but is it possible to pretend its lost/stolen and get that replacement phone? That way I can get another G2 for my girl can't afford for retail price since I used all my credit line..

That's illegal and it's called Fraud. Pretty sure it's a hefty fine + jailtime if actually convicted.
But how do they know? You can say it got lost at a theme park right?

Not the best idea
@noodles2224
Yea you could say some lie like that BUT remember that #1 insurance companies are giving you a 500 dollar phone for 130. So they make it their business to know what happend to your phone. I had to file a claim for a lost g1 and they made me get police reports and everything before they helped me out. #2 every phone has an IMEI number unique to itself and it is registered on the network when the phone is in use (I'm not 100% sure of how it works but they know if that phone is being used or not.) AND if the insurance company finds out that the phone YOU purchased (with its unique IMEI number) that is now claimed to be stolen is being used they might go and find out who is using it or who knows...
I wouldn't risk the fine or jail time or court just for a phone for your girlfriend if you want her to have one sooo bad then you can save up for it or at least tell her you'll give her half or some thing...
Besides I wouldn't see the g2 as the best upgrade option I'm bummed out that it was released with an 800mhz processor... WHY? All the new high end phones are using 1ghz... but w.e. everyone has theyr likes and dislikes... I'm personally waiting for something else...

There's another warranty thats 1.99 a month and it covers all the same thing the 6 dollar rate does except for lost or stolen phones. Its only available up to 2 weeks after you purchased the phone. I think it's more likely to have a phone that has broken hinges and buttons instead of losing a phone.

Hmm... Why don't you try it and find out? I mean what's the worst that can happen? It's easily worth losing a year of your life to jail to save $250!

Actually, not even that with the $130 deductible, you would only save $120.
But sticking to the original question it covers a lot and its easily worth the $6 if anything happens to the phone physically (cracked damaged broken stolen ran over, abducted by aliens) the insurance company, asurion, will replace it for $130 deductable.
And if anything like software wise or memory card reader messes up or something inside that's NOT your "direct" fault tmobile will replace it for free. But it can't be physically damaged or cracked screen or anything it has to be something inside or even bricked, you can get away with some good excuses and making believe you don't know anything when they ask, did you try to root it? Uhhh... what's that? Lol
Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using XDA App
The other great thing about a carrier having your IMEI# is that they can render it unusable on their or any other network within North America. I am about 98% certain that when you report a phone lost or stolen to Assurion, or Tmobile that their policy is to Blackllist the IMEI # of the phone.
As far as I can tell it only works on this continent, you could get a blacklisted phone to work in Europe.
It is similar to how a phone is added into a network, like say you flash a Verizon phone to Metro, they have to add the IMEI into their system so you can use it. In this case they just make it so you can't use it.
Also they do know if you have used a phone. I had a Nexus one and a Vibrant. I lost my Nexus while using my Vibrant. When I placed the claim with Assurion, they wanted me to call Tmobile and find out the last day my SIM card was used in my Nexus. Tmobile new exactly the last day my sim was in the Nexus.
So they know. And now, you know that they know.
OMF!!!! Come on guys..........how many times are your phones taken or lost and they find it???? They do not care that's why thousands of us pay 6 bucks a month and make them money. In the table, it says that the warranty (1.99) covers only malfunction. And "normal wear and tear" is grouped with malfunction in the description at the top of the page. So hinge falling apart is normal wear and tear I'm assuming? what about scratches? And then how is Damaged defined? Any one have any idea? I don't want to pay 6 bucks when I can pay 2...

I had similar thoughts when I was younger and even talked to a T-Mo rep about it. I learned that if at any point you insert your own SIM card into the phone you claim was lost or stolen, you can expect a not-so friendly visit from the insurance company's lawyers or investigators.
Say you give your phone away to your girlfriend. The first thing they will do is check the SIM card and the account it is tied to. If you don't share the same address, or are linked in some way say through relatives or former addresses (anything a basic background check would show), then they will check the call history and see if you two know each other. It doesn't take a high school education to figure out if your phone was stolen or not. Claiming it was lost won't do much for you either.
I wouldn't be surprised if T-Mo can now remotely disable devices. If the phone is on and transmitting, it can be located pretty easily as well, whether that's for prosecution or recovering losses. I am pretty sure that if you make a claim with the phone in-hand and turn it on, you'll find yourself in trouble very quickly. If **** goes down, good luck convincing anyone, especially a lawyer or judge that your girlfriend stole it.
They don't take fraud lightly; I don't think you should as well.
ok, I know we already have a topic about sprints tep changes, but as I read through it I was so tired of reading all these assumptions and people stating incorrect things, so to clear it up. Also remember this may not be regional, I don't know how sprint is rolling it out, at least in the south east (im in NC) its all rolled out as of oct 23rd.
First off im a service and repair technician at a corporate store. We rolled this out on the 23rd (at least in the southeast, idk of other areas around the US)
pricing is still the same, 7$ a month. But now it covers almost everything except liquid damage, board damage, lost and stolen.
So if someone comes in with a completely shattered evo screen (as I saw 3 today), if they have TEP we replace it with a brand new screen, if we don't have one we exchange in store, if we don't have one, we order a replacement. Basically we now cover physical damage in store. The only time we don't is if its board damage, say the phone got ran over, obviously the board is destroyed. But as far as cracked screens, broken hinges etc... its all covered.
ALSO now for people that do not have TEP, before if they had physical damage we would charge them 120$ in store for repair, now its only 35$ to repair say a broken screen (good news!), except thats for every visit, sprint is now not authorizing the 1 year manufacturers warranty in store, so say your blackberry trackball pops out and you don't have TEP you can either pay sprint 35$ or go to blackberry. But the nice thing is its 35$ for ALL repairs, except the liquid, board damage etc..
I just felt the need to post this because I was tired of reading incorrect posts. Hopefully this makes sense, because I typed this in minor frustration lol. But I think this is great (for the customer, I see alot of phones now lol) But its REALLLLY putting value in sprints TEP now
So if any questions please ask away.
Thanks for clearing that up. I am switching to Sprint next week so this news has been welcomed.
good post ! tyvm
no problem. I hope this makes sense, I just went on a quick typing rant and haven't really read over it. But I think this REALLY adds value to TEP and makes it worth it. And to the people who said sprints technicians don't know anything they are worthless. Honestly.. Just because your local store may be bad, or not up to par doesn't mean they all are. At my store we try to be as fair as possible, but when someone comes in every 2 weeks for the same problem for the past 5 months, yeah we may refuse to repair, or notate the account for repeat offenders. But at the store and District I work in, we all do the best (also were the number 1 store for customer service in the District so that may help)
If you don't have insruance, does the phone need to be on your phone line? Lets say i have a phone in my cabinet with a broken screen, could i go and get it fixed for 35$?
For $35 I might just take the case off my EVO and let her run around naked!
Thanks for clearing that up! I live in the South east as well. +1
yes we can repair the phone but it has to be on the account, and active for atleast 30 days.
So I know this is off topic but how do technicians treat Evos with hosed 4g keys cause I want to root and pay $7 for insurance but fear hosing my 4g which I use.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Great information, thanks. One question though: what if you do have liquid damage and you pay for TEP? What is the repair cost then? What about lost phones? Also, like already mentioned, what about rooted phones? This is insurance after all and not warranty.
I ask because I have Best Buy Black Tie Protection now' but with these changes to TEP I'm thinking about canceling the Best Buy plan and switching to TEP. Thanks for your info.
what about everyday wear and tear i have scratches from dropping my phone a lot on the bottom of the phone can that be fixed for free?
Is their insurance still through Asurion? I went ten years with never losing or damaging a phone and the one time I lost my HTC touch I was charged $100 for a piece of crap that had a busted speaker and a glitchy looking screen. And to top it off the girl at sprint who looked at my phone said the busted speaker wasn't too bad and that the speaker phone still worked fine...
I am not impressed with Sprint's insurance at all.
ok, well if liquid you go through asurion, 100$. Same for lost or stolen. As far as the 4g queston, not sure what you mean by hosed 4g?
and for the question about cosmetic damage, thats the one thing im not 100% sure about, I will have to get more info on that.
And yeah still through asurion. But now the only time you go through them is if;
liquid damage, lost, stolen, board damage.

Hosed 4G means the RSA keys are damaged and it won't authenticate. Each phone has it's own key, so it's not something that could likely be fixed in store.
Would a phone get replaced under that circumstance?
hmm maybe since im not familiar with the term, But we have seen phones with 4g not connecting or not able to establish a connection and sometimes we have to exchange it (which thats covered), but lately we've been pretty good at restoring data to the devices but a pain in the ass, so exchanging is usually easier
i had a small crack on the top right of my phone (next to front camera) for a month now (a drunk drop getting out of the car)
it wasnt a big deal.
well yesterday i was holding my daughter and was taking my evo out of my pocket......it fell on the tile face down.
i picked it up and my screen was shattered but the phone still works.
anyway i went to sprint today and got a new screen put on my phone for free within 40 minutes. i also have the $7/mo insurance plan
best part is i have a CM6 root/rom on my phone and they didnt say a thing.
i have an 003 version and since the new screen was put on, no more light leakage either
I still don't understand why a customer needs to be charged $35 for warranty work though.
Shattered screen? yes
Defect in phone? no...should be a free repair if it's under the 1 year warranty
Well I know now after reading this Im happy I told Bestbuy to shove their insurance and switched back to Sprints !

Your not. Call the manufacturers, use their warranty and take a month off without a phone.
exactly dirtyshroomz. Because yous till have the 1 year through company. But we will do things like software defects, and basic s/w based things at no charge
From what i have read, a broken microusb port on an evo from tripping over it or dropping while charging is common. I have also read that in the past, customers with this problem have been denied repair or replacement by sprint. As of now, the most current instruction given to sprint employees is to give a replacement phone. I am getting my new evo on thursday. similar experiences with sprint support?
My wife and I both had issues with this on our first phones within a couple of months of getting them launch weekend. Sprint acknowledged that it was a problem and promptly replaced them, albeit with refurbished phones.
The refurbishment must have worked, though, since neither of us has had any charging problems since.
[edit]
Well, until today, that is. I think I broke it myself this time, though.
[/edit]
This is what I absolutely hate about sprint, they cannot get their sh1t straight. One store will do it, another wont. Thats ridiculous.
Anyway, the usb port breaking IS a hardware failure, and IS covered under the 1 year warranty. If a sprint store gives you crap about it, call *2 and talk to Account Services, tell them you will cancel your account if they dont fulfill the warranty.
Yeah the insurance only covers software problems like the phone won't even turn on same Thing happened to me it broke Sprint denied me and I had to go to a phone repair shop paying $118 but one time my phone didn't turn on because the heat fried it (summer time) and they replaced it.

No, insurance is for lost, stolen, or broken (by you, i.e. you drop in toilet or run over with a car). Anything else that YOU didn't do to the phone is considered a manufacturer defect, and is covered by the warranty. I hate to say it, but you got screwed, you should have gotten it fixed for free.
I'm having the same issue right now. I've had my phone for 10 months and the USB port went defective a few weeks ago. I have to wiggle the cord around to get it to charge and sometimes it will and sometimes it won't.
I'm trying to get my phone back to stock because i used Simple Root v.1 when it came out last year.
This thread says i can just flash a stock signed rom, but my phone says "S-off" even though i never used unREVoked forever. Do i just flash the rom anyway?
My first Evo had the same problem within the the first 4 months. I purchased it and launch and found out that it was a hardware defect but could not go through all the hastle of getting it fixed. I would have been phone-less for too long so I ended up paying 35 to the local repair spore and got a new phone. I have yet to run into the same problem with the replacement phone. I wonder if I could get the 35 refunded to me because I do have chat logs where representatives said it was a defect.

My first launch day EVO broke 2 months in. One sprint store told me I would have to call the insurance and so I went to another sprint store and for $35 got a replacment.
No consistency!!
Well when I asked sprint if they could fix it they said damages like that would be through your one year warranty with HTC and would have to pay deductible.

You need to run a ruu my guess is your rooting process installed the ENG bootloader and that is why it still says s-off
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
It depends on how the charging port is detached from the board. If the solder joints are left intact, it's a manufacturer defect and is actually a known issue in the Sprint system.
If the solder joints are damaged or "torn", then it's customer abuse and an insurance claim will have to be filed.
Would the loud speaker being muffled be considered a defect? I have a speaker problem and charger problem. Sprint was telling me $39 to fix it, which sadly is cheaper than I can do it since you have to buy about 6 speakers online

Definitely unroot it. Lady at my local Sprint store got all uppity with me because she saw CM7 on mine. x_x
I went in with mine rooted and all. The guy actually was pretty into the phone being rooted lol. Asked me what time I was using etc. Charge port was broken, ordered me a new (refurbished) phone, sent me on my way lol.

I believe I posted this in another thread, but can't remember.
It depends on how the port is damaged. If it just pulls completely loose from the board, solder joints intact, then it's a known issue. Replacement will be given through S&R.
If the solder joints are broken or the charging pins are bent, it's considered customer abuse and an insurance claim will have to be filed.
The ports cannot be replaced in a service center. I work in an ASC & the service centers do not solder anything back on to the board so replacement is the only option.
Had the phone on my lap on some concrete stairs, got up and it flew down 3-4 steps. I'm so freaking pissed off now! The phone has some pretty nasty chips on the sides and a nice one on the back battery door.
Is there any chance I could somehow replace it with a new one from AT&T? Possibly buy insurance over the phone and exchange it for a new model? Man this sucks. :crying:

At&t insurance specifically covers "accidental physical or liquid damage and lost or stolen"
Like someone else mentioned, don't tell them you dropped your phone when you call in to add it, and don't file a claim till at least a few more days.
Honestly, don't even file a claim if a case can cover the damages and save your 200 in case something really bad happens. Lol

You're SOL bro, its a 199 deductible cuz the S3 is a tier 3 phone according to their insurance if it is covered, and you won't be gettin an S3 back as the replacement since the phone just came out...ATT doesnt take care of the insurance claims its handled by a 3rd party that you can bet doesnt have the S3; the insurance company will replace your phone with whatever comprable phone they have at the time you make your claim if they don't have your specific phone available, you could add Square Trade but its 69.99 for 1 year and its a 50 dollar accidental dmg deductible I believe..besides that your only option currently and the by far the least expensive get a TPU case that covers the whole phone. lastly you could wait a few weeks and buy a new housing for the phone off ebay along with a new battery cover that should cost 30-80 bux...let this be a lesson to those who say I will never get a case...accidents happen at anytime.

I see this so many times. I don't know why people carry a smartphone without any case to protect it and get “pissed" when it falls and gets damaged. Thats what happens when a phone falls on the ground without protection. It either breaks or gets scratched/damaged.

I never bought insurance, case, or skin protector for my captivate. I dropped it a few times on concrete, carpet, hard floors... it has tiny scratches on its side and still works. Getting the phone in and out of your pocket is much easier without a case; although, I don't think I'd be as much of a risk taker with my GS3 as it looks much more delicate!

in saying that a i9300 housing is probably different internally, look for a i747 housing, might be a week or so before one pops up on ebay though

That's just the front cover and home button. If possible I need the band around the phone and the battery door. The front of my phone is fine.

:crying:

I love that a lot of the posts are telling OP to commit fraud. You didn't have insurance, you damaged your phone, you are responsible. Don't go buy insurance, pretend like nothing is wrong, then some days later make a claim. Own up to your mistake, and take the hit, instead of making everyone else paying for insurance cover your mistake. Go buy a case, fix your phone, and buy insurance if you're still worried you might break it again.
This is one of many reasons insurance (not just for phones) is so high.

A typical company wouldn't hesitate to backstab customers if it means higher profits. These companies (AT&T, Verizon, insurance companies etc) charge so much for their services that it's truly unfair to the consumer. Have you seen Verizon's new Internet prices? Truly insane. I'd rather look out for myself than a company's best interest.

Ok guys, this really sucks. Im in hawaii and got my phone submerged in my pocket (I was drunk ok) lol.
Wondering what would be my best options on getting it replaced. I took it to a repair shop and he cleaned it up but it still doesnt power on, But he said my microsd card seems to be ok. So luckily I got most of my stuff on that.
With no insurance on the phone (i dont know if that covers water damage). Any thoughts on what I can do to replace it? i know its probably gonna be expensive.
If bought the high end protection plan then u can get replaced no questions asked from verizon
I ended up just paying off what was left on it, and got another one lol. screw it, i do like the phone! Got insurance this time. Just chocked it up as a lesson learned.
Yup, stupid crap happens when your are drunk... at least you manned up and paid for it instead of ripping off the insurance company.
Oh wait, that is you're plan for next time. ?
