so i just wanted to to know if there was anything available to the public yet in regards to rooting the new rogers htc dreams that have perfect spls.
i went to the theunlockr.com/2010/04/26/how-to-root-the-htc-g1dream/comment-page-1/#comment-17655
and it said that the root works for all g1/dreams but i dont want to brick my phone.
any suggestions?

NOOB!! trying to root my g1 LOTS OF TROUBLE
ok so the FARTHEST ive gotten is getting to a custom recovery image thing after i downgraded to RC29. I flashed it in telnet and the recovery screen will not let me install anything from the sdcard. Ive tried to flash a new recovery image since i read someone else having the same problem did that but when i try to flash the recovery image it doesnt work. I tried it in Telnet and Terminal Emulator. In terminal emulator when i type
flash_image recovery /sdcard/(image name)
Permission denied
I tried an su command as suggested but su was denied as well...my phone is really effed up and im stuck in RC29 which is reall suckish since nothing works.
PLEASE...anything will help.... thankkssss!!

Need help rooting phone. 32b htc magic developers conference. Can anyone guide me over the phone? I will happily mail or paypal 10.00 for your trouble. I've installed the sdk and drivers, just need to move forward. I am a total PC noob and just need help with command lines on XP. Or if I can do it on a mac, that would be cool.

Did you know you can flash to a different Rom without being root ... I would recommend flashing to the CyanogenMod port to the 32B magic, this will give you new features including root access and is probably safer than trying to obtain root on the stock firmware. Check the link in the bottom of my sig to see the process you would need to follow.

Turn off the phone. When it has powered down hold Back and turn it back on. Keep holding back until a page with skating androids is displayed. The top line ( i think) should tell you.

Its for 32A only ofc cause HTC provides Updates for HTC branded devices only ..
i need a solution for my question from top of threat : how i make to install Cyanogen 4.2.1 on my htc magic vodafone 32b 1.6 version ? (now i have cyanogen 4.1 version installed) and second i need a step by step solution to root my phone pls

There is no simple or short answer.

It's my understanding that you must first downgrade to firmware 1.5 to root. Maybe that's just for the so called "one click" root process??...
root via my software its straight forward my friend even idiots can do it

can somebody guide me , or post a link to change the HBOOT to something else other than 0010. Ive tried alll the methods , but no luck.
The Magic which i have is from Qatar (vodafone).
Any info on changing the ROM would be helpful. I just got the phone and im upgrading from HTC Diamond.

it says that the ROM has a higher version than the one which im flashing with... my ROM ver is - 2.56.415.5 and the one im trying to flash is 2.53.xxxx ( which is the highest ver ive found on the internet.
Ive tried everything , so if u know any other method to fake the update , like faking the rom version , that wud be helpful.

can you give us the name of the rom or the link ?

Note that your informations about your phone show that your never changed the spl and the radio , and as you know every custom rom need specific spl or radio, and your fist question is can somebody guide me , or post a link to change the HBOOT to something else other than 0010.or my link give you all necessary to change the hiboot and radio ,

If you list the methods you tried instead of just saying you tried all you might get more help. If you really tried all we wouldn't be able to help you anyway.
But instead of making us try to guess what it is there is going wrong, provide us with info. Then people won't come in and post link to the wiki and things like that
Anyway, goldcard should be able change this SPL, and i believe that other methods is available as well. I used to have that SPL myself before i got an engineer instead. But you should change your SPL before trying to flash a Rom, but seems like you understood that just trying anyway. Other solutions is to find a newer RUU update there match your mobile which have S-OFF so you can downgrade the SLP after that.

I would take a less risky approach than RUU updates, but it was the way i did it cause back then i got my phone the 1.33.0010 was still perfected.
You got the SDK on the PC and able to list devices through ADB? And a goldcard as well?

Ya , im able to connect it and run adb devicelist and i'm able to create the goldcard as well. But wen i'm trying to load the SPL , it shows that the current ROM ver is higher . S-ON means that i cant downgrade right?
So i'm guessing there is no solution for this problem

I got this one from a friend of mine, he said he did something with it and ended up like this..
it stucks on the RUU screen cannot do anything else, no recovery, hboot etc just this screen...
i tried to flash the tested ruu that was said to be able to fix it[found it somewhere in this forum] but it's always ended up with various failure...
anybody can help me??

It's for the pure 32A roms.

Don't try to update your phone from RUU with 3.xx or you got to be brick..

I'm not sure this update is rootable at the moment. You should have waited for a rooted custom ROM, sorry. You could try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 but I count on it working.

But you have to know which partition is mounted as /system and replace /dev/block/mtdblock3 with it.
it was 1.6 i received the update and yeah after updating from today there is a black spot while taking pictures only when the camera On the spot show other wise its okay so i want to Root my phone so it may work or i want to degrade my phone from 2.2. to 1.6 can i?? .. this my first phone android don't know single thing about it ..
