Quickest way to kill data? - Legend General

Is there a quicker way to make sure you don't get charged for data when roaming than going into menu/setting/accounts & sync/ and unchecking sync and background data?
The power widget only controls sync, does that also include any background data?

ok found that you can either long press the power on/off button and choose mobile network, or even better just add the mobile network widget for a quick tap (thanks htc)
this does kill all data exchange, rigth?

disabling auto email/gtalk notifications

Hi,
Is there a way to manually check your email instead my Magic checks my gmail automatically charging me for the data connection. How can I sent the phone to disable this function?
Thnx
Hi,
Settings, Data Sync, uncheck Auto-sync should do it. Then just click Google Mail/Calendar/Contacts when you want to manually do it.
May want to turn off Background data too. Dunno.
Is this what you were looking for?
You can also download APNdroid (market), With this program you can turn off and on your data connection.
hopes this helps

How can i stop all background data and sync?

There is sync icon on the top bar when i set both background data and sync off
whats happening?
And when i check the current widget log, i'm sure there are some apps is doing sync secretly, how can i manage all of this background data and sync things??
I could be wrong but I think some widgets will sync if they are on one your home tabs and you have data connection on. Even if you have the options in settings turned off.
try to go into airplane mode and see If it stops.

Get "Mobile Data Enabler" from the market. Add the widget and shut off data there.

Facebook and gmail not updating in power save mode (in foreground)

Seem to have narrowed this problem down to power saving mode. At times Gmail seems to stop sending push notifications of new emails in the backgroind and Facebook will not update the home feed at all when opening it and forcing refresh (just says can't connect right now). This is all temporarily fixed by disconnecting then reconnect the data connection... Very annoying, anyone else have this issue? I know power saving mode is supposed to turn off background data but when the app is in the foreground it should be useable lol...

I am having the exact same issue, went to the carrier and they blamed Samsung. We uninstalled Gmail, reinstalled, updated it and then reconfigured my email accounts still nothing. It is doing the same for a regular email account and Facebook. You have to kill/close all apps and restart gmail and FB to get messages to refresh.
Quicker workaround is to have the app (either fb/Gmail) open and disable then re-enable your internet connection.
You'll soon notice it starts affecting other apps as well.
We really shouldn't need to be doing this for a phone this expensive. Will try contacting Samsung
It must be a software issue with power save mode messing up the apps connection to data. I'm just surprised no one else is having the same issue
I am also having this issue with Facebook, Messanger and other apps just hanging with no connection! Seems to be related to power save mode which blocks background data.
On my htc one m8, I had problems with gmail not getting push notifications only after upgrading to marshmallow. Switched to the outlook app and didn't have that problem. I'm doing the same thing on my s7. Seems like some apps are "dozed" more aggressively than others in marshmallow...

Power saving mode in marshmallow for Samsung devices disables background data, if you long press the power save button it shows that it does so, you need to have power save disabled to sync stuff.

Not just talking about syncing I'm talking about opening an app (e.g. Facebook) in the foreground and it no longer functions because it somehow lost connection to data. Manually refreshing your timeline is not considered background data or syncing
I had this issue and I called up SAMSUNG+ Exclusive support and they were able to help me with steps to get my facebook App works in powersaving mode. All you have to do is Setting---> Application--> Application Manager --> select Facebook--->select Storage --> press Clear Cache.
This solved my issue in my Verizon s7 edge.

Mobile network restriction?!

Hi,
I own a Huawei P8 that runs on B370.
From time to time I get this pop-up message when opening an app that asks me if I want to remove the data restriction. Offcourse I choose to remove the restriction. But that doesn't seem to help. I've added some screenshots (in dutch).
Things i've noticed while on data connection:
Google apps don't work
Synchronization problems in google-account
Gmail (+others) asks to sign in, but when pressing the button it doesn't
No location services
Tethering/hotspot doesn't work probably due to no access
Some apps (snapchat, etc.) don't load or pushes notifications
While other apps run smoothly on my data network...
On wifi no problems!!
I don't want to do a full reset of my phone, so I hope somebody knows how to fix this!
Thanks!
Try updating to B380. There are some changes to data management ui. Before that you can clear the data of System manager app.

Screen Wake from FB Messenger

Phone screen just flickers on and off when I get FB notifications. Seems like a glitch.
When this happens, is the phone in vibration mode? Other possibility is that you may have set a screen passcode recently and in the process also enabled hide sensitive notifications and it is possible that it may be interfering for phone to wake up on certain notifications. Are the FB messages from messenger present when you do wake the screen or do they show up right after you wake up the screen? You may have changed the phone sync settings or if you have enabled power saving mode, phone may not be checking for notifications from certain apps or in intervals or both, or if you or another app have disabled facebook messenger from syncing or changed background data settings (for example datally is an app from google helps save data if you don't have unlimited plan but in the process it disables most apps from connecting to internet by default).
I would suggest go in settings, then apps, then tap on three dots on top right, enable 'show system apps', then look for any apps related to facebook, click on each one go to 'storage' then 'clear data'. Make sure you do this for all of them before you go back into FB or messenger. You will have to log in FB again and it is quite possible that this will fix the issue if settings were the cause. (Edit: Try uninstall and reinstall the app). If it doesn't work, and you have checked through all the possibilities above, you may have to do a factory reset, setup the phone again and reinstall FB and Messenger app first then install a few apps at a time to try and catch any apps that might be responsible. One last possibility that i can think of is that it is also possible a recent update to the app by FB may have caused this bug instead of you or your phone.

That's an interesting point you make, because the phone is doing just that - The phone isn't actually vibrating until I hit the screen and wake it. So they're essentially showing up right after I wake the screen. This is despite the fact that the message was sent minutes beforehand, so it would've been received by all accounts. Appreciate the help!

Very likely you have the Battery saver feature turned on. When it is on, among other things, the background activity and data of apps get restricted. I am very sure that this is the cause for the issue you are having. You can either turn off Battery saver mode or add FB Messenger to the Power saving exclusions list to get your FB push notifications back.
Appreciate all the help man!
Great thank you!
