Hello fellahs.
After installing the new version og google maps (version 4210) i now have a navigation app launcher in the app draw, however i live in a country were google maps navigation isnt available, and it tells me aswell when i try to launch it.
So my question is if you people that live a place where maps navigation is available, have always had that app launcher, or did you first get it in this update aswell?
The app looks like a blue arrow and is just called "Navigation".
Iam just wondering if google is gearing up for realeaseing navigation to new locatins.

Hi,
I have a program using google maps, and I want it to show the new google maps, but each time the program starts I see the old version of google maps.
Do I need to use different method thenthe one described in the google android developers site to do that?
I can see that it is the older one since in the old version there are no maps for my country, and in the new one there are.
(I can see the new maps using the goole maps app)
Thanks,
Amir
Does google maps navigation work with the Canadian X10 from rogers? I've downloaded version 4.1.1 of google maps and there is no navigation, do i need to enable something or is it disabled in the rogers version?

I was curious about this as well, but found the answer here very quickly.

Note: Google Maps Navigation is currently only available in the United States on phones that run Android 1.6 and higher, including the Nexus One.

So yea...no go for Canada
It is not limited to the US anymore, UK and Ireland now have it. Doesn't help for the original poster, but anyone else who stumbles across this may be interested.
There is a 'hack' that you can use that does not require root...

Bruted Google Maps Navigation is working perfectly on Xperia X10.
why does google navigation not work ?
google navigation works fine for my rogers x10
go to google maps, search for a destination, click the little popup bubble on the destination for information on that destination. click the second icon from the left on the top and a menu will pop up saying get directions or navigate. click navigate and google navigation starts
Hi
According to this gsm Galaxy S review google navigation is not available?
So you get google maps but navigation does not work ? IS the review correct?
out of the box it's only Google Maps but Google Maps needs to be updated in Market to get Google Navigation Beta
Ah so it will depend on the country you are in ? My G1 has google navigation here in the UK. Can someone in the UK with this phone confirm ?
Thanks
Hi, Im in the UK and navigation works perfectly.
UK here and navigation was added after a market update to Google Maps, like mentioned above. It wasn't on when I first got it.

Car Menu and Google Maps Navigation. When you are out and about, Galaxy S makes finding your way around fun, easy and efficient. In the car, put Galaxy S into its mount, and weather, view map, voice search and navigation icons are instantly displayed. The Google Maps Navigation application allows you to find your destination easily and quickly even through the most complex streets. As you make your way, Galaxy’s internet-connected navigation with voice command and preinstalled Google Maps, provides three different views. Real street view, traffic view and satellite view.

Am I the only person who gets "Navigation is not available in your area" when I load the navigation app? Samsung are selling the phone with navigation as a feature, one I intended to use which is disabled because?
I was under the impression that Google Navigation was only available in the US as of right now.

There's no google Nav in aus yet as mentioned. Brut[maps] works, but be aware there are still some small subtle oddities (which don't really affect it's use), such as going the wrong way around on roundabouts (So if it says second exit, that might mean second exit counterclockwise, NOT the correct way).
Hi guys I have a question, does the google maps on your Streak have built in launcher to google navigation or is navigation a stand alone app?
For example if you search an address in google maps does it give you the option for both directions and navigation? or just directions?
Because I bought a Streak used, and the latter seems to be the case for me.
Thanks.

I do not have my streak on me at present but i am sure its the latter
stand alone app in launcher bud
Oh, I see, geez that sucks. Oh well, I hope 2.2 update brings lots of needed changes. I love the 5 inch screen, but really thats not enough.
It should be able to do both. When in google maps, hit menu, directions, choose a place hit go and screen will show up with directions and also "show on map" or "navigate"options to click on.
or you can use just the navigation app.
Google maps does have an icon which when you click will take you to a screen where you get options for navigation like voice, past trips etc. you can also place regular trips as icons on desktop

Agreed, navigation is an option on current google maps.
I have the navigation icon also.. remember that google maps will not update itself unless you visit market and install the latest version from there first..

The navigation button is enabled in google maps labs. It becomes an option on your icon along with call the icon.
Great if you are searching for a place you can just click navigate to get to it.
Also when directions are invoked in google maps it gives you the option, to use the normal map directions or navigation
The google labs options are good. It has layers button, measure tool etc

Thanks for the update. I pulled the battery and now it seems to work fine. Maybe i was installing and uninstall too many apps from the market?? Not sure but in any case its working now.
