Using new (2.1) google maps - Android Software Development

Hi,
I have a program using google maps, and I want it to show the new google maps, but each time the program starts I see the old version of google maps.
Do I need to use different method thenthe one described in the google android developers site to do that?
I can see that it is the older one since in the old version there are no maps for my country, and in the new one there are.
(I can see the new maps using the goole maps app)
Thanks,
Amir

Navigation maps version 4210

Hello fellahs.
After installing the new version og google maps (version 4210) i now have a navigation app launcher in the app draw, however i live in a country were google maps navigation isnt available, and it tells me aswell when i try to launch it.
So my question is if you people that live a place where maps navigation is available, have always had that app launcher, or did you first get it in this update aswell?
The app looks like a blue arrow and is just called "Navigation".
Iam just wondering if google is gearing up for realeaseing navigation to new locatins.

Google Maps - Places

just upgrade to an official froyo ROM but on my previous ROM (Leedroid 1.6), i had google maps installed and there was an icon in Programs called "Places" where i could search for nearby petrol stations, supermarkets, pubs etc.
Ive installed the latest Google maps on my new ROM but i dont have the Places icon.
In the Market when i search for Places it has Google Maps as the first selection.
any ideas how i can get this app back?

Google map navigation

I have HTC Legend and I installed Maps 4.6 on it. I'd like to use google navigation but i don't know if i need to install it or it is included in maps....
Once installed the application, it downloads the maps as needed, using any kind of internet connection, you don't have to worry about the maps, just be sure you are connected someway.
As far as I know, navigation is not available everywhere, and Google is offering it in just some countries, if this is your case, you can search the forum for "brut mod", that is a modification of the Google nav application so can be use everywhere. It also caches the maps in the device so you use less of your internet allowance.
Hope I was useful.
Cheers
nevermind >.<

Google Maps w/out Latitude

is there anyway or anywhere to get google maps on the shift without the latitude app? i just hate seeing it in my app list! i never use it and i don't see available to freeze in titanium. is it just part of maps?
Yeah latitude, places, and navigation are all part of maps.
Ok. My problem is that while trying to upgrade to a newer version of Google Maps (5.6), I had to uninstall my older version (5.2) using Titanium Backup app. But I did not know that removing Google Maps would also remove Navigation, Places & Latitude. Now all of them are gone from my phone and the new package of Google Maps (version 5.6, size 6.39MB) is also NOT INSTALLING on the phone! So what is the remedy left now? Can I download Google Maps from the Market to install it on my phone?
You should be able to just dl maps from the market to get everything back, and I'm pretty sure if u try to get rid of latitude ,or any of the others, google maps just keeps force closing
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App

Change default Navigation App

Hi. I want to change my default Navigation app to basically ANYTHING except Google Maps. Wanted either CoPilot, Here, or Waze. I have my search provider set to Bing even but when I click on any direction link, it takes me to Google Maps. I've gone into Apps and even disabled that and ensured other Nav apps are set to open always, but it still goes to Google and Then takes me to the Play Store so I can download/Enable Maps. Any way around this? Pretty crappy of Google to do this....
Go to settings/apps & notifications/default apps/opening links. Scroll down to Maps and click on it. Click on open supported links and select don't open in this app. Hopefully it will let you choose your other navigation app when you click on a link but I've never tried that. The reason Android wants to use Maps is because Maps is integrated with Google Play Services and your Google account and a third party app won't provide the same kind of integration because it would require giving a third party app elevated privileges that are not allowed without root.
Hi and thanks. I had already tried that unfortunately. It doesn't work. ANY link you click for directions on a web page, even if asked to open only gives the option of Edge and Maps. A calendar invite or something like that will ask and give a list of valid mapping applications like Waze, Here, etc. But links on a web page......only Maps.
Having Maps integrated with Google Play services is just another reason NOT to want to use it.

If you're rooted there might be a tasker profile that does what you want but it doesn't seem to be possible without root.

Thanks for the reply. Bummer. So Google locks you into their apps even if you search with Bing. Seems like Microsoft got in a lot of trouble with the government about 20 years ago over this sort of tactics.
