I rooted my hero today and followed all instructions and everything went perfect. I am trying to flash Damage Control 2.08 and followed all the instructions, but my phone stays locked on the white htc quietly brilliant screen and then restarts with the sprint logo and repeat. Its been doing this for about 20 mins now and just wondering is this normal for first ROM or is something wrong?
did you
1) search the forums?
2) wipe /factory reset before flashing?
No it should not keep boot looping. Wipe everything all over and then flash the Rom again. It will probably take between 5 to 10 minutes. Also is your SD card partitioned for a2sd?

I searched but didn't find anything. The first time I tried to flash I had forgot to wipe, but when it wouldn't load past boot I restarted in boot and wiped. Then tried to flash the ROM again. It went past boot but now continues the same pattern with white htc screen and sprint logo.

My suggestion would be to redownload the Rom (maybe it got corrupt) and put it on your SD card then wipe wipe wipe and flash.

Try wiping EXT. As a rule I wipe Data, Dalvik, and EXT before flashing.

I'm trying to flash the live wallpapers that he gave seperate with the ROM. Does it matter if I try to flash both at the same time?
Id let it boot, then reboot just to be safe. Thats 2 full boots, then flash. Also: some of the OpenGL fixes break 3D games, Google Nav, etc.

Flash the main Rom. Then let it boot all the way to completion, sign into your Google account then reboot after everything is loaded. Now apply the livewallpapper update from recovery.

I have tried this and still have the same problem. I tried to do a nand restore also but it says i need to use adb for that.
It finally went through and is now loading but my battery level is ridiculously dead now. Thank You for your help.

Hey guys,
I have a htc hero, rooted and with Legendroid rom (latest).
Everything was working fine, until I installed Dolphin Browser from the market, and tried it out, while testing the browser, the screen frooze. So iwaited a while and then pulled the battery. From this point, when i turn on the phone it shows the "Hero" screen, then goes to 'Htc quitly brilliant' screen.
I've tried to do a nandroid restore, (wich was on a villain rom) but same problem.
Then i tried to flash a new rom, still the same problem.
Sorry for the long read, and thanks in advance.
Had the same issue and had dolphin on my phone, I installed eZHero but now the camera is dead :-(

cool I fixed it.
Used a program to whipe everything off my phone, took out my sim and sd card, and it started up again!
Now everything seem to work fine.
What was the program called and where can it be found?
Thanks!

Why not do a full wipe in Amon Ra's recovery, then restore a working nandroid backup or install a new ROM?
What's the name of the program?

Sorry misunderstanding,
The dude who fixed it used cold boot mode (hold home, back and power on)
to clear the data.
Whenever you think your phone is stuck on a boot always run adb logcat first to make sure it has actually frozen.
No luck with clearing storage, any other ideas?

I want to do this as more of a starting new kind of thing. I know you can clear the sd cards and factory reset, but does that truly erase everything? And i understand theres also some options to clear delvik cache and others in CWM. Are these caches erased w/ factory reset? thx brah
Odin maybe?

yeah ive used odin a bunch to flash eugenes roms and stock rom if i get a soft brick. But weird thing is it doesnt wipe my internal sd. BTW this ISNT like a serious issue and i NEED to erase everything...but ive flashed so many roms over each other i thought it would be good to give my phone a breath of fresh air. haha
okay so just about an hour ago i was trying to install the 2825 radio. i flashed it onto the phone in recovery mode and now my phone wont go past the boot screen. (tmobile g1) i can still get to recovery and fastboot and all of that but even when i tried to restore it, it still wont go past the boot screen!!!!! what did i do wrong, and is there any hope for me?? please help!

Hopefully you will not accomplish your objective. "Everything" includes the Primary Boot Loader, in which case your phone will be permanently bricked, for all intents and purposes.
You will not be able to access the phone by any means other than an expensive tester after you delete USB drivers from the phone.
To erase everything...you need to go settings.phone & sdcard.umount...under phone storage.format....it will mount back on its own

you'll lose everything on the rom including apps that the dev added. only thing you wont lose is stock apps, but no it shouldnt matter what rom your running.

Great! Thanks for the info!
Appreciate the fast response.
So I rooted and switched ROM's many times on my MT3g, and now that i'm trying it on my MT4g, I'm having hella trouble.
So I got to S=off and its perarooted now, with ClockworkMod Recovery image: 3.0.2.4. I tried to update the Kernel to KB-Kernel-2.4.8-108-CFS-SV... put my phone with the stock ROM into a boot loop, so i restored it. Tried to update the Kernel then immediately install CM-7.0.0... again put it into a boot loop, and had to restore. What am i missing here? Should be partitioning like with my MT3g? Should i be wiping? Is there something else I should be installing?

That's your problem. You can't flash a kernel before the ROM, because the ROM's standard kernel immediately overwrites it. Try wiping all 3 items in the recovery menu, flash CM7, and then let it boot. Once CM7 is stable, try flashing your kernel. Just make sure it is compatible.
Sweet, thanks. Hopefully it works.

Wipe factory data
Wipe catche
Then go into advanced wipe dalvik
Should take 30 secs max to wipe, 5 mins max to install and reboot
Then flash your Rom and reboot. Once its rebooted then try flashing the kernel. There is no reason that won't work assuming you do have s-off

If what Mark said doesn't work, I'd look to a corrupt recovery image, or more likely a bad download or SD card.
Aww... I'd be hella sad if I had a bad sdcard. My problem was that I wasn't wiping the correct things, but now thanks to you great people I finally can flash again! Thanks!

Glad you got it working. If Mark or I have helped you, maybe you could hit the thanks button.
Make sure when you do a kernel you wipe cache and than davlvik and than flash the first time kernel and than repeat the process and than flash your desired kernel.

I was having a ton of problems with my Nexus 4, like i mean a TON
so I decided to just fix it and factory reset my phone. I rooted it with the nexus 4 tool kit and flashed TWRP. I found the CM10.1.2 zip and the 4.2.2 GAPPS. Flashed the ROM, then the GAPPS, then cleared both caches and Rebooted my phone. It is stuck at the spinning CM circle boot logo forever (I even left it on all night). I tried flashing CM10.1.0 with the 4.2.2 GAPPs same process and still in a boot loop. WTH is going on. I'm so frustrated. My phone was wiped clean and the only app I have is a file explorer besides the preinstalled Google apps.
Help.
I made a backup of when I freshly rooted my phone so I don't have to keep rooting when I enter recovery to get away from the boot loop
Before you flash the ROM did you do factory reset? Go into twrp do a factory reset then flash ROM and gapps then reboot it shouldn't take more then 5 mins for it to boot

I answered your post. The point of XDA is to share development work and learn how it works but if you're using a toolkit and not reading you'll never learn that's why you've had "a ton of problems" and don't know how to fix it

Sorry I never saw your reply. Thanks for replying. I did a factory reset from the settings menu NOT from within TWRP. And the toolkit is not to blame because I've used it plenty of times before and has not caused any problems. All it does is root my phone.
Umm you need to wipe within twrp before you flash. You're bootlooping because you only did a factory reset which only deletes cache and stuff. Wipe from within twrp and then flash

I wiped from within TWRP, rebooted and then my attenas were not working again. I could at least see the networks in my area but I could never connect on WiFi- it kept saying "Authenticating". It also said "No Service" for my 3G.
I booted back into TWRP and went into the advanced options for wiping and selected everything besides some "usb" thing and I think I deleted my OS -__- . I'm an idiot I should really not do what I don't know. I'm just going to flash stock ROM (4.2.2) with the Nexus 4 Tool Kit and see if things improve.
Thanks for your help.
In twrp if you're flashing a different always do the advanced wipe in order to clear the previous rom. Doing the basic wipe in twrp has the same effect of factory reset from earlier

I installed the HORSEMAGEDDON ROM and it worked - for the most part. But it kept giving me annoying errors about different apps that were attempting to update every time I turned it on. So I tried to restore my backup that I had made with CWM 6.0.2.8. However the backup apparently did not restore properly because it now boot loops back into CWM any time I try to start it. I get the errors:
E:Can't open cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open cache/recovery/last_log
So I tried to reflash HORSEMAGEDDON but it still loops back into the CWM recovery screen.
I have wiped everything according to the instructions on the HORSEMAGEDDON thread.
HELP!! This happened to me on another U8800-51 phone and I wound up hard bricking it trying to get back to stock.
Anybody???
Does anybody have any ideas on how I can fix this?

Yes. I did a wipe of data and factory reset as well.
What I would do is get an SD card with a custom rom on it and try installing it from recovery menu

Obviously you have been having problems with that rom, so go with something different.

Okay. Here is what I did step by step:
1. I was on Stock 2.2.2 Froyo and flashed HORSEMAGEDDON successfully. But I had some errors related to updates since it was such an old ROM the updates were all for much newer versions of the apps tied to 4.x.x.
2. I attempted to restore my backup made with CWM 6 to return to the stock. It said it completed successfully but when I rebooted it just looped into the recovery screen with the error messages posted in my first post.
3. So I tried to reflash HORSEMAGEDDON and it said it completed successfully. But it still bootloops into recovery.
4. I can access most of the features of the recovery. I can access the pink screen and swap recovery versions. I can access my SD card from my PC when I mount it from recovery.
5. Yes, I did do full wipes with each attempt to reflash.
The ROM was not the problem. It worked and worked well other than update issues for apps. It was only after attempting to restore to stock I ran into issues.
The problem appears to be something was corrupted when I tried to restore my backup, even though it said it completed successfully.
So if I try to flash yet another custom ROM, even if I could find one I trust given all of the version issues etc., I don't think it would act any differently. But if somebody can recommend one I am all ears. Keep in mind I have a -51 phone so it will have to be for that or the PRO.
Given that, how can I get back to stock? Am I the only person who has ever had this problem? I don't believe that is the case, so somebody must know how to fix it or can point me to a procedure to repair the internal memory.

None of the fixes on this link seem to apply to my situation.
When I said "bootloop" I may have misused the term. What happens is I power up, it goes to logo screen for about 10 seconds, shuts down and restarts to logo screen then goes into recovery after about 5 seconds. From other info that I have found it is due to a corrupt bootloader and I need to reflash the bootloader. Problem is, reflashing the bootloader i.e. CWM, does no good at all.
I am also hampered by lack of info specific to the -51 model. And I cannot find a copy of the stock ROM anywhere that is for the -51.
So essentially I am screwed. All of that said, I have found a new phone for $40.00 so all is not lost. It's a U8800 but not the -51 or PRO. I don't plan on customizing it, I'll just stick with stock. After trashing two phones even after following the advice to "BACKUP" I think enough is enough. Backing up did me no good whatsoever in both cases.
In my estimation, the culprit is CWM, or at least the versions I used.
If anybody has any advice I'm all ears.
