[HOW-TO] Circle battery with % in the middle (rooted) + froyo - Desire Themes and Apps

Hi All
I've edited services.jar, so we can use circle battery with sense roms. You need to have rooted device and MCR r1 and R3 ROM.
Froyo version tested on DEFROST 2.0 Rom (for froyo I've updated just the code (services.jar) not the framework, but I'm sure some of the devs will take care of that ;-) )
For android 2.1 :
Code:
1. Start recovery
2. Do nandroid backup
3. Place update_signed.zip or update-froyo-signed.zip to SD and flash,
For android 2.2 (froyo) without HTC sense :
Code:
1. Start recovery
2. Do nandroid backup
3. Place update-froyo-signed.zip to SD and flash,
If you have odexed /system/app this mod won't work for you. Look for *.odex files in the /system/app folder.
The theme used here is not my work!! all credits for theme go to PaY87

Got stuck in a boot loop after doing this. Not sure why or how to fix it...other than a new rom

Impossible to start the phone , phone is starting but all processus failed to start ! how is it possible to remove that ? or to do it work ?

Forgot to mention it will not work on CM ROMs.
Which ROM you are using? This is for sense ROMs I have tested this on MCR r1.

Yeah was using a CM Rom. I had to flash my Rom again but luckily what I lost was minimal!

There was no need to flash. All you have to do was replace services.jar file with the one from CM ROM. When I have some spare time i'll try to do CM version.

I needed my phone back on quickly and didn't have the files lying around i deleted the CM rom so i've just got the Modaco r2 for now.
So might give this battery a go again!

Sorry, but what is MCR or CM rom???
I have a stock rom with root. Will this work?

MCR= Modaco Custom Rom
CM= Cyanogen Mod

MCR -> Modaco custom rom
CM -> Cyanogenmod rom
This should work on Sense Stock rom. Can you please post the size of services.jar ?
Code:
adb shell ls -l /system/framework/sevices.jar
you'd better backup the files in recovery so you can easy roll back in case of issues :
unzip services.zip
adb shell mount /system
adb shell cp /system/framework/services.jar /system/framework/services.jar.orig
adb push services.jar /system/framework
adb shell chmod 644 /system/framework/services.jar
adb shell cp /system/framework/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk.orig
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework
adb shell chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb reboot

weird, am I only one who have this mod working? I can try to flash MCR r2 and see if it works. Have you tried to wipe data or boot without SD card ?

no, i haven't tried to wipe data or boot without my sd card as i'm running ap2sd
i'll need to run titanium backup before wiping...
i might try that later if you cannot find a solution, but i have to go get ready for work right now

check out grdlock bluid based on the same source. Link removed because of assholes.

So once again... no root for us that went to the 2.1 leak?

Nope. In order to flash a new rom without root, the HTC signature needs to be valid. In order to preserve root, the rom was modified by jcase to include su which breaks the signature hash. So, while you will be able to update to the official OTA update (assuming version is higher, which I believe to be the case), you can't install this rom.
Since most people will be updating to the OTA 2.1 away from the leak or away from 1.5, I'd personally recommend installing the OTA 2.1 directly from HTC. We'll likely be targeting it for root exploits next and abandoning version 1.5.

To be clear, install the otaroot rom released by jcase if you already have root. Install the OTA rom direct from HTC if you currently have the leaked 2.1.

The new 2.1 is exactly what I wished the last leaked 2.1 would have been. Its working so much better with no noticeable lag at all.
Thanks again guys!
wipe data
I have root now and am currently running the .3 rom, question
1. is this just an update to what i am running now?
2. Do i need to preform a wipe?
3. if i dont wipe does the phone maintain all my apps and settings i.e email google etc?
Damn, I was just uploading my all-in-one batch script and then I noticed this had been released... I started making a rom of it, then I noticed you already did! hah!
Thanks for being a night owl and already doin the work jcase. I'm gonna incorporate this into the all-in-one script.
mv error: cross-device link
i have updated this rom, works great!

error message is "cross-device link"
but i had already remount the /system partion as rw, and i notice that rm is working fine - i can remove files in /system/app, but can't move to another directory!
before update to this rom, mv is working correct
any advice?
btw, there is no busybox in this rom

same problem here. you can copy files and then remove the source. that's what I've been doing for my moves. As for busybox, I installed it myself, but I'm sure someone (if not me) will release an update.zip to install it sooner rather than later.

thanks for reply
I tried install busybox myself, but it dosn't work. this is my steps:
adb push busybox /sdcard/
adb shell
remount /system
mv /sdcard/busybox /system/xbin
failed
adb shell
remount /system
switch to another console
adb push busybox /system/xbin
failed
and, there is no "cp" command, I didn't find another way to copy from /system/app to /sdcard/
Wipe??
I just want to reiterate denonlake's question, does installing rooted OTA 2.1 require a wipe of DATA and CACHE partitions like the original root process? Can we preserve settings through this flash or is it best to go through the whole setup process again?
The mv and cp commands are in busybox. I did not install busybox, so you don't have them. The Toolbox that comes with the OTA is lacking them.
Install busybox yourself, or wait for grdlock or ivan's release.
in case anyone is interested, the Messages app bug and cell standby bugs are fixed in this release too (as well as the already known gmail login bug fix) the phone also seems to power down a lot faster than previous leaks.
havent tested google voice yet, probably cant till later today. someone else feel free..

This did not appear* to work.
Next, wiped device and cache, then installed zip through recovery.
Success!
*My experience is limited. Maybe it did work, but nothing on the phone appeared changed.

[Q] Themes on HD2

Since we are not able to boot into recovery mode and run update.zip is there a way to manually apply themes to the Desire builds we are using?
Such as [MOD] Smooth Sense Icons v.1.0 (now with screenshots)
Thanks in advance.
+1
i have been asking this question since day 1..and no honest reply
I'd love to know how to skin android full stop I cant even get my hd2 to connect in usb mode
well...the only way to apply some themes is to replace framework-res.apk into system/framework/framework-res.apk...doing this with root explorer has no succes even if you ADB it..this will brick your build and u have to install again the whole system.ext2...!!everywhere is explaining that first phone must go into recovery mode to apply it..!!so,till now cant have any solution but only wait to make a function to have the possibility to run the phone into recovery mode..!!Be patient..soon we'll have it!

from what I've gathered a zimage is based around the kernal & drivers, with shubCRAFT you can connect via USB as long as its on debug.

It's possible to change framework-res.apk through the terminal, can't say this will work for everyone and it may completely screw your android build, so a titanium backup couldn't hurt. This was done on shubcraft 1.4d to theme back to stock android (if your looking for the framework, it's somewhere in the shubcraft thread).
1. Place your new framework-res.apk in the root of /sdcard.
2. Run terminal.
3. su
4. mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
5. cd /sdcard
6. cp framework-res.apk /system/framework
Reboot and hopefully success.

are for phones that can be rooted and flashed with recovery..for us on the hd2 we HAVE to adb every file 1 by 1...sucks..and even the terminal method..you will see errors on your phone..i wish darkstone would just say how he put the espresso on his rom.
Go to market and Download ROM Manager from Clockworkmod it's free.
Put the theme on the root of the SD
open ROM Manager
click install from SD
pick out the theme you just put it.
Reboot
themes are ROM/framework specific which is why certain themes are only available for certain ROMs. shu8i builds are based off of cyanogen and are therefore the easiest to theme IMO. I have done a theme thread for that particular set of builds and have had great feedback from users.
So FWIW, a theme cannot be applied to just any ROM. If you want to get into it, you will need to find and extract the .PNG files from the framework-res.apk , pull the framework-res.apk from the build you are currently running, replace the images, and replace the framework-res.apk in your build with the patched one with the new .PNG's
there are plenty of TUTs on XDA explaining how to theme, only difference is us HD2 users have to manually push the files instead of using the convenience of an update.zip that is flashable in recovery.
Moved you guys over to general.. Best of luck!

I understand that this thread is old, but I just found it. Trying to install a new framework-res.apk to my device using this method. I have it in a zip file (which is the format that would be used on a normal device to flash it from recovery mode).
Well I tried this; it lets me choose the theme (zip file) that I want, and it then prompts me to choose OK to reboot in recovery mode and continue the installation. Nothing happens when I choose OK.
Any further info on how to do this? What am I doing wrong?

Thanx For Replying
In CM7, Open ROM Manager (Or, if you are not in CM7, then download the app called ROM MAnager from the Market)
- Then Select Install Clockworkmod Recovery. This will install v2.5 on the SDCard
- Select Reboot into Recovery from ROM Manager
- This will take you to Clockworkmod 2.5, then you can install this ROM.
By following this, you get to keep both recoveries, 2.5 (Select Reboot into Recovery from ROM Manager App) and 3.x (Select Reboot into Recovery from the Phone-Switch-Off Menu)

+1 for jokerdroid, after using CM7 for 1 month. I cant live without sense dialer and contact manager, and jokerdroid is really fast and stable (I got 3.3mflops without JIT).
+1 JokerDroid 4.2 i have been using cm7 stable and nightlys for the last 2-3 months they are fast but had to many little bugs that pissed me off lol , never really used sense as had the phone for a couple of hours and rooted it and flashed cm7,JokerDroid 4.2= fast and very stable so far so for me this is the best rom i have used to date
that`s good !
yep ! one of the best roms that i`ve ever tried ! jokerdroid 4.2 ! so far so good since a week ago !
I tested CM7, but I missed some features from Sense. So I decide to use JokersDroid, but it hasn't got "insecure boot" (no rw mount). After everything I decided to use MoDaCo (it has busybox, so usefull). I replaced kernel to nfinity MC4 from johnseen99 (so I can OC buzz), removed some annoying apps, add JAVA and Livewallpapers from DK Rom, unlocked GoogleMaps and switched to GoLauncher EX.
I'm happy now

There is no zip
1. I flashed MoDaCo from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867937
2. Via recovery switched kernel to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=591094&d=1304950233
3. JAVA - unpack DK ROM - from /system/app copy Jbed.apk and libjbedvm.so from /system/lib -> via adb push them to similar folders. In /system/app are two files with "live" in name - copy them too (livewallpapers doesn't work in Sense)
4. Wifi indicator and Wavesecure removed via Titanium backup
5. Maps: http://mobileplanet-waryam.blogspot.com/2011/07/google-maps-v562-mod-with-world.html
6. Go Launcher - via Market
If some day I'd learn how to prepare full custom ROM - I''ll do it

Ok, there is two other ways to make it: using rootexplorer to remount /system partition with R/W, or adb shell to remount it manually (adb shell, su, and mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system)
As I have rootexplorer, even when I have to adb push something, I just open /system in rootexplorer and press "mount r/w" button.
Ed.:
I cant remember the correct number of mtdblock. You can check it with df command on shell, and it will give you all mounted partitions

[TUT][MOD] FuguTweaks, feel the smoothness of Nexus S

Original thread here. Give thanks to nikademus
This tweak adds responsiveness on the phone. What it does is replace app_process and system_server binaries by the ones found in android 2.3.3_r1 or 3.1 (v0.2)
Note that those binaries have been compiled by me from google official source.
This has been qualified by supercurio as a taste of the Nexus S 2.3.3 smoothness.
It will not make your battery last longer or the opposite. Neither will it improve quadrant benchmarks.

As described above, this tweak will adds responsiveness on the phone, so our device will runs smoother than usual. Also, I'm just found that this tweak will reduce lockscreen-lag yeah I can feel the difference.
This tweak is tested by me on KPN + CF-Root but I'm sure it working on other ROM/firmware, as well as Froyo.
Do this as your own risk!
Always make backup before proceed!
To install, just download one of the file at the link below then flash with CWM (don't forget to mount /system).
Pick one, no need to use them all...
Download v0.1: Download now - currently I'm using this one
--v0.2 REMOVED. It's troublesome.
Manual install & backup:
With any root file manager, goto /system/bin and mount as R/W, backup the following files to your sdcard: app_process, system_server
Copy FuguTweak files (app_process and system_server) to /system/bin, replace the current one.
Set permissions to rwxr-xr-x (755) then change owner to:
Owner = 0 - root | Group = 2000 -shell
Reboot.
Changelog in the original thread.
0.1 = all files taken from 2.3.3 AOSP
0.2 = app_process only, taken from 3.0 AOSP
If your Ace went wrong:
Revert back any changes you've made with this flashable-zip:
Backup KPN
PS: ROM makers, would you give me a proper credit? because I've tested this awesome tweak on SGA

Right! It's Fla.sh X2 "secret" tweak which I've mentioned before
Download v0.1: = CWM recovery
Download v0.2: = root explorer
is above correct fla.sh?
and we can choose any above or do we have to do both (for gingerbread stock)?
thanks!

Original thread here. Give thanks to nikademus
To install, just download the file at the link below then flash with CWM (don't forget to mount /system).
Download v0.1: Download now
Download v0.2: Download now (tested on gingerbread only)
Manual install & backup:
With any root file manager, goto /system/bin and mount as R/W, backup the following files to your sdcard: app_process, system_server
Copy FuguTweak files (app_process and system_server) to /system/bin, replace the current one.
Set permissions to rwxr-xr-x (755) then change owner to:
Owner = 0 - root | Group = 2000 -shell
Reboot.
Changelog in the original thread.
0.1 = all files taken from 2.3.3 AOSP
0.2 = app_process only, taken from 3.0 AOSP
PS: ROM makers, would you give me a proper credit? because I've tested this awesome tweak on SGA

In linux systems permissions and ownership are assigned to owner, group and others .To get a particular thing to work you have to set right permissions and ownership. For ownership there is chown command and permissions chmod command.
Coming back to the topic you can change ownership by root explorer .Long press the required file and from the popup menu choose the last option-Change Owner
and change Owner = 0 - root | Group = 2000 -shell
.
Nice..
Another Brilliant Tut for our beloved fellow SGA Users..
Thanx a Lot.!
Jst keep it Coming..
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA Premium App
i did the above process...now my SGA is stuck up at boot process...

[REQUEST] Stock Nexus 4 boot animation

I failed to copy the stock one before flashing a custom ROM with a different boot animation. Would someone on the stock ROM mind pulling their bootanimation.zip from /system/media/bootanimation.zip and hosting it?
I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!
