Flash / 2.2 preview w/ video. - Hero CDMA General

About halfway down, there is a video of full flash running on what may be Android 2.2.
This is awesome.
What was that, iPhone guy? Sorry... I couldn't hear you over all the flash running on my phone.

Streak won't preview ringtones in settings

I can set the ringtones on the phone just fine but it won't preview them at all. Anyone have any tips?
Known limitation with DJ_Steve's StreakDroid ROM.
I'm not running DJ_Steve's ROM, I am running the pre-release 2.2 froyo that I flashed via QDLTool.

Well, maybe the stock rom has the same issue (althought its stock, still has plenty of bugs). Try putting your phone on silent then picking the ringtone you want - this is the work around for Steves ROM.

[Q] Recording Failed! camcorder sucks after 2.2

Hello, I'm having a few issues with 2.2, and also a few questions.
Any information is greatly appreciated.
I'm one of the many who fell for the last leaked "official OTA" 2.2 update.
Now along with a unusable GPS, the camcorder is no where near as stable as it used to be, I keep getting Recording Failed, right after about A 10 second screen UI freeze.
Whole experience as a whole seems to have quirks, things do not seem as solid as they were.
I'm trying to find the safest method of reverting back to the prior 2.1, DI18.
But after having a taste of Froyo I'd like to stay with 2.2 if I can get something stable, with working camcorder and GPS, any recommendations?
I'm not opposed to trying a custom rom, I just want one that is some what stock, preferably without any candy-ass themes.
Please forgive my ignorance as I'm pretty new to android, but is there a way to take a snap shot or back up installed apps and contact info?
If I do go with a custom rom, is there a way that I can put everything back on there like I had it.
So in summary:
1. Are there any solid fixes for GPS and/or camcorder, regarding the leaked broken 2.2 update.
2. If I choose to just go back to DI18, whats the best method.
3. Best 2.2 Rom, with working everything.
4. Backing up, whats the best method?

1. There are fixes all over the forum although I have never seen anyone having problems with the camcorder. The GPS fix however is all over the place.
2. ODIN
3. Nebula is what I am using and it is awesome. I am also hearing that Bonsai is good too.
4. Through clockwork and/or titanium backup
I also saw the camcorder problems. I have rebooted several times since I first saw it and haven't seen it since.
I'm using Epic Experience and everything works that I use.
I back up with Titanium. I wouldn't restore apps with Tianium, I would download from market and then install the app DATA with titanium.

Idle Free RAM -and- Why go non-stock?

When idle, I have 295MB free RAM on the stock ROM. Is this normal, bad, good or what?
Also, all these threads say to upgrade to a custom ROM, which I'd agree with on any phone I have had up until no, but the stock ROM on this DroidX is amazing and I have zero complaints (first stock ROM for a phone I have had no complaints about). So why upgrade to a custom ROM? Right now I have tons of apps installed, and nothing is slow or sluggish. I can switch between Facebook, games, the Camera, Gallery, AndExplorer, Yahoo mail, WifiTether, etc...all without having to wait. I just flick with my thumb and it is instantly there, so why upgrade? My wife has a HTC Incredible, and I MUCH prefer the Motorola blur interface. It is far superior to the default Android interface in my opinion after using other 2.1 and 2.2 devices. I would lose blur if I went to a custom ROM wouldn't I?
Finally, Is there an easy step-by-step guide yet for flashing the DroidX? (like the one I made for the Vogue in my sig below), or do you still have to know a bunch of acronyms and be a programmer basically to even understand how to do it? Also, how hard is it to flash back to stock if I do not like the custom ROMs?

if you already wrote a tutorial on how to root and flash a custom rom to a phone, why are you worried about terminal commands?
Just seems a tad out of place to me.
And rooting and flashing is simple, just get z4root or other method one click root the phone, which install the custom recovery, then download droid x bootstrap from market, download your rom bootstrap into recovery, nandroid and flash.. simple.
And returning to stock is as easy as a maderstock rom (believe i spelled it right) or SBF back to stock, if you update to a gingerbread rom, you must flash back to a stock froyo rom before continuing either by sbf or maderstock.

I am WAY behind...

So, I gave my girlfriend my DInc last year when I got a new phone. Put a fresh install of CM7.1 on it and it's been running well since then. Well, I'm trying to breath some new life into it, but I've been completely out of touch with DInc ROMs for over a year now and I am lost.
What is the most stable ROM available for the DInc at this point? I'd like to put JB on the phone, but ICS would be fine.
Will I need to update the bootloader? Radio? Newest recovery?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm so far behind I am at a loss reading through everything in the development section. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1. ROM? Tiny's CM10 (formerly Pons's CM10) is arguably the best and most actively maintained, and even the latest CM10.1 (Android 4.2.1) is a very stable ROM. If you care about recording videos you're better off sticking with GB, otherwise, JB is as stable as ICS. Evervolv JB also is a good Android 4.2 ROM.
2. Radio? The latest radio (2.15.10.12.20) seems to be the preferred one, cmlusco has a thread about it on here somewhere.
3. Bootloader? HBOOT 1.07 is the latest, and if you unlock it through htcdev it adds some extra features like flashing things through fastboot.
4. Recovery? CWM is still perfectly fine, but TWRP has been gaining a lot of traction lately and is very nice. Installing it can be a bit troublesome, it's best installed using fastboot and an unlocked HBOOT 1.02 or 1.07.
You do not need to update the radio, bootloader, or recovery to put JB on it though. You can just flash the ROM (full wipe if coming from CM 7.1 of course) and all should be well.

Pons and now Tiny are the only reason I have upgraded to new device. They are keeping a great phone rocking into the future.

I think you meant to say the only reason you havent upgraded - in which case, me too! I've found Tiny's latest CM10.1 nightly (01/26/2013) to be stable. Everything is working for me (GPS, camera, wifi, etc) with the exception of video, automatic brightness, and the preview is occasionally glitchy when taking pictures. The glitchy preview problem can be solved by using something like camera360. Unfortunately, there are no solutions for the automatic brightness and video problems that I know of at the moment...
Stability...your pretty much on it Anything based off 2.3.x will be your best bet in my opinion. GB is rock solid. While its nice to have updated software it comes at a price/missing features etc... It doesn't hurt to try out different roms but i feel in the end you will stay on GB. I switched off the rom in my sig back to Bugless 2.3.7 GB incredikernal EXT4 mod. Haven't looked back.
Latest Radio is in my sig.

Just got my Pure, should I update to 6.0?

I just got my Pure and so far it's perfect. It's still on 5.1 and stock. Should I take the ota update or do it another way or just start? If I go to 6.0 can I go back to 5.1? I kinda want to at least have root but wish it didn't trip the bootloader flag.
I stay stock odexed and rooted because all of the deodexed Roms have produced unfixable lag for me. I am on the latest 6.0 with Feb security update and systemless rooted with frankenclark and performance is super snappy.
Are there any issues/bugs with the 6.0 update. I've read that it has been know to mess up devices

You should do some reading before moving forward.. I'm still 5.1 rooted stock and have been there since September. Not saying not to move forward. I am still questioning need for 6.0, possible storage issues, tibu backups, lag. I've been keeping abreast on threads but just not comfortable with some stuff I see people experiencing. But nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say.

Is it possible to unlock bootloader, then flash back and forth from 5.1 to 6.0??

I asked that very same question and never got a response. I've not SEEN any post making that statement. If you want to do anything you have to unlock it first. If you're worried about something like that then I'd suggest staying stock and accepting the OTA when you want. You can unlock BL, root, stay 5.1. There is a thread with that allows you to return to STOCK 5.1, but I'm not sure it works if you're on 6.0. Am I making any sense? I'm sure someone can explain it better than I.

Yes, you can go back to 5.1.1. I did it a few times. Even the bootloader will downgrade safely. That is from the original 6.0 update though. I haven't tried going back to 5.1.1 from the February security update. You can find full flashable firmware for all three versions. I would keep them handy.

You can unlock the bootloader and flash 5.1.1 firmware in its entirety from the 6.0 firmware, and it all goes fine. I just did it last week, and it was no different from the RAZR M; you may get a bootloader downgrade warning/failure but it seems to go through fine.

Unless you use Firefox for background music and Skype for voice calls, you should be fine. Some applications that download and play back audio are unusable when put into the background. Also, even though mileage may vary, be prepared for reduced battery life.
I just bought this phone and was excited, It's my first phone on a Snapdragon 808 and Android 6, but I have to admit it seems sluggish at times, and not as snappy as I though a flagship would be. It seems to be a software optimization issue to me.
I'n rooting it right now and following the instruction to set the display to run as 1080p.
I have had no sluggishness issues on stock unrooted. The only thing I hated (as with all androids) was the animations and transitions which made the phone seem slow to me. Changed in dev options to .5 made it perfect to me as I do get to enjoy the effects but at a speed that it's more bearable to my tastes

Same story here, I was able to (for giggles) lock my S4 Pro Droid Maxx to run at minimum CPU frequency (under 400 MHz) and it was perfectly usable, but with this phone, even having two LITTLE cores running at 1.4 GHz makes the phone crash from hanging too long. X Pure is not what I expected it to be performance wise and it makes me miss my Maxx.
