Hmmm...I purchased this app a little while ago and switched back to my default camera...today I decided to go back to Vignette and do some photo tests against the default camera.
Both apps are on the same settings, or as close as I could make them. Clearly to my surprise the Vignette app actually takes sharper pics than the X10 camera.
Attached is a photo sample to show the difference...im my eyes its actually a pretty big difference.

i went in the same way i was using vignette but i guess it was some stupid version .. with no available options ... and returned to stock camera ... but now i`m using one of the latest versions and OMG the difference is so big ... i just deleted stock camera app from my screen never gonna use it again ! )
I'm usually a really cynical poster and I don't mean to be a ****, but that's been one of the most popular topics on the forum. It's definitely true though, I don't use the original camera app much.
The only thing I don't like about Vignette is that you can't adjust the contrast on the fly like in the native camera app. I don't like the interface as much either. The X10's interface is pretty good, it just lacks the ability to keep the light enabled by default, to view pictures fullscreen and without Mediascape and a few other very minor tweaks. For once SEMC actually did something correct with the minimalistic and straight forward camera interface.

I think you may have used the free version...which doesn't support the full resolution of your phone. But I took a few different pictures comparing, I only posted that one comparision, but yeah vignette came out better everytime alot more crisp anyways.

Maybe 2.1 will improve the default camera app, but from what Ive read its only giving us 720p and nothing else. I actually like the interface on vignette, I also like the interface on the default camera. But when it really comes down to it, its all about what app will take the clearer more crisp picture right? and that goes to Vignette hands down. There may be a bunch of posts about this already, but really Ill admit, im way to lazy to search today...sorry

I'm positive that even SEMC will update the interface to include some of the important features. It's sad that we have to pay for a third party app to do the most minimalistic tasks, and that's to just take a proper picture. Nothing advanced even!...

I returned to the stock app because vignette is so damn slow and I could not find a way to just take a picture and have it save without having to push 50 buttons.
I won't deny the quality is far superior, but like I said its just stop slow.

That's the stupidest thing you could've done. You've probably broken every application on your phone that uses the camera to add a picture to a message/fb/twitter, ect.
Also, you've lost the ability to easily take video.
Does anyone think before they delete apps?
Well I've noticed that night(or atleast low light) shots are pretty much the same with either app... they both suck
I use Vignette for everything else though...wish it had a better UI

exactly what i did
I tried using Vignette, but I found that it seemed to crop some of the picture automatically? Like, I know there's something like that in the settings, but besides that, what I see on the screen before I take the picture isn't the same as what's captured. Also, I found it really difficult with macro shots, especially with the autoflash. While focussing, the light comes on, but then the light goes off after focus, so then the camera refocuses, and when the picture is taken, the flash comes on but the camera focussed for without light, so you get over exposure or out of focus. Am I using the app wrong? I'm really finding it difficult to focus and get clear pictures, with vignette or stock app

and about those 2 pictures with the sunglasses m8... there maybe is not difference in close up pictures coz macro is working fine but try to take pictures from distance and youll see the difference anyway i`m using steady shot for best preformance 8mpx superfine and 16:9 widescreen something u dont have at stock app 8pmx only 4:3 ... sooo there u go aaaa and another thing with vignette u can take picture with a real FLASH ... not with LED light

You must be blind.
The image review on the phone does not look that nice, but look at it on a computer and they look great.
Also, an app called Reduce Photo Size works very nicely for cropping images - not as convenient as digital zoom in every case, but indispensable for an image you want up in a hurry (easy crop, fast ui, and much smaller file size without artifacting issues).
Also auto desk sketch book is very cool for quick edits.
There is a timer hidden in the stock camera menus too... Took me a while to find it!
Swyped w/ XDA App. When in doubt, mumble.
Maybe I should clarify... whenever the Fascinate tries to use the flash, everything is always completely washed out because the flash is so bright. I havent had much luck taking pictures at night or even in a somewhat low light situation. What flash setting are people using? (On, Auto, Off)
Just fyi, the zoom function works while shooting video too, though it's a bit odd watching it as it's so abrupt, unlike a real video camera that smoothly zooms in and out.

So yesterday I email myself a few pics of my car I had on my I pad. When I check them out I notice they are low on detail. I was thinking what the heck higher Res and less detail? I compared the same pic on the ipad and instantly notice the difference. Thinking its impossible I jump into the market and look for another photoviewer and low and behold it displays all that missing detail. I started comparing all my pics on the zoom in both apps on my device (for reference I downloaded viewpic basically it was the first free app I found).
Anyone else notice this? Looks like the stock gallary app is helping to hurt the first impression of the screen and camera when checking out pics. Thankfully it ain't a hardware thing.
Until Google fixes the stock viewer, here is a solution that works for me.

I used Google Exchange Synchronization on iPhone before. Since I had a Google Nexus and now a Galaxy Note, I can say at least one thing:
It's neither device nor OS dependent. I googled a lot when I was on iPhone with low quality contact pictures and I finally found the solution on one of Googles Message Boards.
The problem lies within the Exchange settings of google sync. Google set the maxumum size of contact pictures to a low resolution, any high-quality contact picture attached to your contact, will be immediately synchronized to google, transformed to a lower resolution and then synced back to your device in low-quality.
One of the moderators of google stated this on the bulletin board.
In 2010 they changed the resolution to a higher number, but still quite low-quality.

As long as you sync the contacts with google, they will be synced back in a lower resolution. Of course some Launchers or alternative ROMs allow to use a local contacts picture instead of the synced one, but that's not the soltuion for cloud-services like this.
In Android 4 (ICS) all of this is resolved!
Same info: http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-4.0.html
Large photos
Android now supports high resolution photos for contacts. Now, when you push a photo into a contact record, the system processes it into both a 96x96 thumbnail (as it has previously) and a 256x256 "display photo" that's stored in a new file-based photo store (the exact dimensions that the system chooses may vary in the future). You can add a large photo to a contact by putting a large photo in the usual PHOTO column of a data row, which the system will then process into the appropriate thumbnail and display photo records.

He's asking about Gmail pictures. This is 100% separate from ICS. Try this. Delete the contact account on your phone, and reinstate it with gmail. It will sync really low res pictures to your phone. On my stock AOSP rom. I did the exact experiment described above. It synced low quality versions of the high res pictures I put on my phone.
ICS did something completely different. It allows you to locally put a high res photo on a contact. It does not allow you to put a high res photo on googles gmail servers. The only way to cloud sync a high res photo is through google+. Some people have had luck using some 3rd party facebook apps for the same thing. However, gmail contacts don't get high res photos. More than a few people I've seen have complained that gmail contacts have the high res photo overwritten on sync. I have just accepted the low res at this point.

I think that ICS is referencing a different picture location on gmail servers, the one with 256x256 resolution. All other versions and programs still points to the old location where a low res photo is stored. This is done for compatibility.
If you create a contact in ICS the Android will sync the picture in to places e one with hi resolution and one with the normal (old) resolution (96x96). The new programs will know how to check in both places, but until then only ICS does this.
I have managed to sort of solve the issue ... i have turned off sync and then replaced the pictures off my memory card ... which then retains the picture at the proper resolution ....
it appears that if you turn back on sync it will then sync back to google and the pictures go back to low quality
until google or who ever sort out the issue , i will leave off sync .... so i have good quality pictures on my contacts
thank you to everyone for your help .. roll on ics
Issue still persists... :crying:

JB itself handles 720p images in "People" application, locally. Yet, Google still syncs it on 256x256, which looks disastrous on 720p screen. As long as you keep it away from syncing with Google, all looks fine. That's what I usualy do.

Haxsync will fix the problem. It will download all your friends on facebook as phone contacts... You just have to associate each facebook contact with your google or phone contacts. The phone will display high quality photos and google sync won`t change them ...

Hello xda members, I bought this phone because i thought it would be an awesome phone. Which it kind of is but still not. And i am writing this so people who wants to buy this phone gets a some information about the phone. And yes i know there are a thread like this, but one is only positive and the other is only negative etc.
In general this phone is a beast, it look good really premium feeling. But when using it for a couple of days i fins so much in this phone that is really bad that i seriously consider changing phone.
I am not make this phone look bad or so, it is still a awesome phone but these things is not acceptable imo. And all of these things that i will write are IMO
- ´The camera is really good, it takes sharp pictures and is quite good when it is dark (but should be better), but god damn the camera app is terrible. There are no options at all! You can't do a sh*t, and when taking pictures of "landscape" the picture turns out great, but when you zoom in every single detail is blury as hell (look attachment). A phone with 20MP should have much better camera app and more features.
- The battery life isn't good, I used only GSM and no wifi, lowest brightness and the only thing i did was texting and looking at the clock. But the phone was still consuming quite a lot battery..
- The wifi performance is bad, i have a samsung galaxy s2 too and i put the phones on the table and my samsung has stronger signal (which leads to "faster" internet).
- The viewing angels are bad but it's okej i can live with that not such a big problem.
- The bezel is way to big, the phone could be smaller and still keep the display size, because the phone feels a little bit to big and doesn't feel so good in the hand.
- And last but not least there are a few things they should fix in their "ROM", that are bugging me.
But overall it really is a great phone, but these things makes me consider changing phone.
Hope those of you who want to buy this phone thinks this is useful.
The first picture is in auto mode, and the other one is in manual mode.
have to agree with you on the camera. when you take a photo it looks really nice, but when you zoom in it's a like a painting lol. no sharpness whatsoever. hopefully it'll get improve with further update. i thought the battery would be much better, but i find it the same as my old htc one and that's 2300mah.

Not my experience at all. These aren't even the sharpest shots I've taken - you should see the ones I snapped of the outside of the Natural History Museum. Hell, you should see the ones I took of the ceiling inside the natural history museum.

It's a cameraphone,... I'm just not sure what people were expecting. Of course it's not a DSLR but it's pulling in far more detail in every 8mp image than any 13mp phone picture I've taken.

I didn't say that the pictures ain't sharp, they are sharp and really look good. But when you take a picture like the ones in the attachment it is very blury when you zoom in. I did - self selected Night Portrait mode at 8mp 4:3. The other version of this shot was actually captured using superior auto (I know!). SA decided to turn on "Spotlight Mode" as the interior of the truck was bright and the exterior was in full darkness. It became a very interesting shot!
The full samples are in the link (above). Click on the image in the gallery. This takes you into Lightbox mode. Then right click the image and select "original". This is the full resolution image. Right click again, select "Save As" and resize and inspect to your heart's content.
All of the images in the gallery above are as they were out of the phone. No post processing, no photoshopping. Many of them were taken in Manual with me selecting scene modes but if you see a 16:9 shot it was taken with Superior Auto.
Well i must say i had HTC One which was tricked out, with a modified stock rom and a custom kernel with all the bells and whistles, I use my z1 with wifi connected when im at home and 3g when im out and about, its my main media player, so i use it for mp3's and what not aswell as whatsapp and a few other apps, i got to say the battery life is about the same as my old htc one, bearing in kind, the z1 has a bigger screen and a faster processer. Ok i agree with the bezel it could be better, its still a well built phone and in terms of looks i think the htc one is the only phone which will top it for now.
I dont know whats wrong with your z1 but my pics come out great but then again i dont use superior auto mode, i have no issues with wifi, i get very good speed even when i only have 2 bars. it is known that some phones do not give an accurate read out(GIYF). How long has this phone been out? and how many updates have been made? its a brand new phone only released a few weeks back, fixes will come out, have some patience.

There is nothing wrong like that the picture a really good it's just that the pictures taken at landscape shown in attachment. everything becomes blury when zoomed in. And that the camera app kinda suck if you compare to other phones even though this phone has a great camera and that the camera is something sony focused on.
Anyone experienced boot up failure and not being able to force reboot using power button and volume up button even after several times? coz i had this and didn't know what to do until it booted up after many trials!!

My friend i own Xperia T and Xperia Z1 and so far the Xperia T is THE BEST CAMERA PHONE EVER.
The quality when you zoom in to the pictures with Xperia T is better than my digital cameras.
The noise at Xperia Z1 pictures is worst than my Xperia arcS.
The same think happened with Xperia Z also.
After the update to 4.2 the camera quality went to [email protected]
I hope that is a software problem that can be fixed.
Last but not least.
Xperia T at superior auto captures at 12Mp and the Z1 flagship at 8Mp.

Yes I had this problem and it was taking so long to boot I thought the phone was dead.
Finally after waiting as long as 10 minutes for it to boot it started up. It would get very hot during this and use as much as 5% of battery. I found it would do the same thing even when booted in safe mode or after I had removed all of my apps.
From what I can see it is some sort of software problem that happens after the installed apps are updated when you initially configure the phone. I can't tell which app is the problem. Another weird thing is that it was carrying over settings from my last phone (lock screen text etc) that are not compatible and this may have been a problem as well.
I did a factory reset and setup again and it did the same thing after a day of use. So I did a factory reset and then did not upgrade the apps or do a sync right away to my Google account and so far so good and I powered off and back on this morning with no issues. So I am not going to update the core apps for now and maybe I have it fixed.

I didn't say that the pictures ain't sharp, they are sharp and really look good. But when you take a picture like the ones in the attachment it is very blury when you zoom in. But overall the sharpness is really good, but the camera app sucks big time, you can't change any settings, the old phones with 2MP had more options..
Btw nice pictures you captured with the z1

You have tried putting it in manual mode instead of superior auto right ?
manual mode you get more options than i've seen in any other phone camera
(exposure, white balance, iso, metering mode, focus mode, resolution, hdr, steadyshot to name but a few)

yea i know, but i meant when you have 20MP there are no settings you can change only when 8MP, but the biggest lack (imo) is that they don't have features like for example drama, slow motion etc that galaxy s4 has, htc one also has the slow motion thing.
