T-Mobile Update Rom won't text properly! - HD2 General

Hi,
I'm hoping someone might be able to help.
I've just updated my UK T-Mobile HD2 to the latest Rom from the HTC website.
Previously, when texting in predictive mode, it would more often than not get the word correct, and a line of words would open beneath it allowing me to change to any of the other options.
Since the update, it's only been 'half' working. For example, if I type 'Hello', it would normally pick up that word, and also list it in the word options below it. Now, it's putting the word in as though I've got predictive text turned off (but it is set to XT9). It still brings up the word suggestions underneath, but it's typing only the first letter of each key instead.
The options for XT9 and ABC used to show the selected option in green. Now they are both grey, the selected one a darker shade of grey than the other.
I've checked all the options, such as spell correction, etc and they all match how I used to have them set before.
Does anyone know what might be causing the options to not show up in green, as I'm assuming this is also related to why it's not typing the words correctly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

Did you hard reset your device after the upgrade?

Where does this keyboard come from?

I have the 16 key touch dual.
So on input options, you have the touch keypad, when I select that sometimes this comes out (please see attached)
I like it thought better than the 20 key touch keyboard.
Yeh... Where?
I second this, it works really well but there is no option to bring it up on the dual... it just randomly appears sometimes when you need to input text.
Thirded.
And whats more, why does text input seem to vary on web pages?
I've got some where it defaults to numeric input when it should be alpha numeric (ie. passwords), others where XT9 seems to be off (the subject on mails in facebook).
Its so stupidly all over the place and inconsistent! If I could just get this one to pop up all the time I'd be happy.
Doesn't that keyboard show when there's no text entry field?
And yes, i want it too, why would they disable it for normal usage?
Yeh I have found the keyboard to be all over the place when it comes to deciding if it will give you tx9, abc, 123, etc.... Anyone know a way to set one of the two alphanumerics as a default at least?
ok ive had this appear a few times now but couldnt figure out why, as you have been asking for it i have been playing around and think i know what is causing it. you may not need everything listed below but these are the settings on my device if you play around with them you should be able to narrow it down.
I'm running Toms rom, found here
i have disabled threaded sms by using the second setting here
i have enabled the favourite people button on the htc home screen by deleteing the key here
the only other app i have that may have changed a setting is the HTC home customiser.
After making these changes tick the enable xt9 setting in romsettings app, exit the app, then go back into it and untick the enable t9 setting, after closing romsettings you should have the keyboard shown in the second screen shot
as far as i can see this changes the keyboard in all applications
Thats great! Still albeit of a noob so you lost me somewhere there, is there a way to this on the stock ROM?
short answer is i dont know. try looking for an applcation called rom settings after installing it there is a t9 setting. untick it and closethe application if this makes no dfference you may want to try altering the other settings and then trying again until it works.

Ok will try that thanks. On the side, when you untick "T9" does this make "abc" default text entry as well?
I have confirmed that this keyboard layout come out when no text entry is needed.

thats the default action anyway, with the changes detailed the keyboard is available when entering text, if you look at the second image you will see that the cursor is actually in the message box, its the black line at the end of the word hello

Eh? Maybe I overdosed on the thick pills last night, but that doesn't make any sense? If I click on a password field in IE, sometimes the main phone keypad always seems to default to numeric entry. But clicking in the field itself pops up this lovely keyboard.
It really does make no sense at all. There doesn't appear to be any standard/global keyboard settings.
And this is in v6 of WinMo, you would have thought they would have got the basics right by now, but the darned sent items has the useless option of "order by from" - when all the sent items are sent from the same person.
Its got plenty of potential, but it just seems like lots of separate teams were implementing it, doing their own thing without any centralised discussion/design.
Has anyone managed to get this to work with the standard T-Mobile [UK] ROM ?
any updates on this as well? it would be nice to just get an option for this
I got it to work, rather by chance, but thing is after that, I could switch to back to the touchpad type anymore.
I installed POCKETCM KEYBOARD. After doing that, somehow it locked this keyboard in when I choose touchpad.
Its rather a workaround, but for those who to use it premanently, you can do it
it also shows up at times when you are entering a password
Ouch ! I read to quickly and did'nt see the word "permanently" !
It does the same for me after installing pocketpc keyboard and even after uninstalling it !!!
Did you find a way to get the classic keyboard back ? This one is nice but there are some important keys missing as "." and a key to hide the keyboard !
Thanks
EDIT : The installation of Resco Keyboard got all the original settings back + Resco Keyboard of course.
So if you need to use the famous "hidden HTC keyboard", simply install Resco Keyboard and then Pocketpc keyboard.
You will then have your classic "touch" keyboards replaced by the "hidden keyboard" (+Resco Keyboard installed of course).
But to my mind, Resco keyboard alone is better...

HTC SIPs stuck on numeric input?

Hi all,
I'm having a problem with the HTC SIPs (Full Qwerty and Compact Qwerty) - they're both stuck on numeric input and won't switch back to text input mode.
ie, I click on the "ABC" button and nothing happens. I therefore can't enter anything other than numbers and symbols!
Has anyone else seen this issue? I'm having to use PCM Keyboard in the meantime, which is frustrating as it doesn't have easy access to "." etc.
Thanks
J
PCM Keyboard prevents the HTC SIPs from working properly. Either remove PCK Keyboard or try the latest version (0.19)
I have the same problem
I have the same problem.
I haven't installed any additional keyboard software, and suddenly my text keyboard is stuck on numerics.
I have a feeling this may have been something to do with the latest firmware from HTC that I've recently installed.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Pete

Do you have HD Tweak installed?
this will happen if you enable T9
Sorted
Yep, that was it
Sorted - Thankyouverymuchsir
okay so I too now have this same problem, originally I had Dutty's Leo R6 on my phone with HDTweak so I decided to reflash my phone with Dutty's Leo R7 and this time not install HDTweak and see if it works.... But even after doing that, I still keep getting all 3 types of the keyboard inputs stuck on numbers and symbols. after a soft reset whenever I try and type in a text, the first time it usually works fine. But after I have sent the 1st message or just returned to the home tab and try to write another msg, all input keyboards are stuck. Note: I can temporarily fix it by clicking on a previous message, waiting for the menu to popup from the threaded view and then closing it, but after writing that message it will revert back to being stuck
So no HDTweak installed, using new HTC Messaging App, have turned off T9 Autocompletion + Symbol Lock under Input Options and I have also tried installing geniusgeng's cab here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486187&highlight=[solution]+qwerty+keyboard but that doesn't work...any thoughts on how I can fix this with something more permanent?
Thanks
Not sure of any reg tweaks, but why don't you install HD Tweak and then disable T9
Hey, thanks for the amazingly fast reply!!!
okay so I just tried reinstalling HDTweak again and disabling T9, but its still not working I keep having the same trouble. I have also tried all different combinations of disabling T9 only in HDTweak, or both HDTweak and under Input Options and only in Input Options and so on.... but the problem doesn't seem to get resolved.
I have experimented some more and it turns out that the keyboard will only get stuck when I go to the messages tab and click on a text I received to reply to it. If i go to the messages tab and create a new message (where I have to enter in the contact and can't see the threaded msgs) then the keyboard is fine all the time. Does anyone else have this same problem as well, or is it just me?
I would really prefer to be able to quickly reply to texts instead of creating new messages every time...gonna try disabling the htc messaging app (was going to anyway cause it takes waaaay too loooong lol) and see if that magically works
Thanks again!
I had a similar problem and fixed it
I logged on here to see if someone could tell me how to fix my issue, but it is regarding an HTC HD2, not a Blackberry. My problem was similar but not exactly the same. My phone somehow permanently got stuck on Xt9, which I hate and am worthless at using. I couldn't seem to find the answer anywhere online so i'm writing my experience here in case it helps anyone.
Hitting the XT9 / ABC button did NOTHING to fix it. Even though the button would visually change from XT9 to ABC and back, when I hit it (it would change to a green color), the keys themselves would not change at all, and i was stuck looking at keys that make zero sense to me qw... er...ty... ui.... it was like a bad nightmare. I have no idea how I managed to get it stuck on this (sorry I know most of you techies probably have no problem with it but I am just not very tech savvy).
I tried taking out my battery, popping the sim card in and out several times, restarting. Sounds stupid but I didn't know what else to do as I couldn't find any solutions online. Finally called tmobile.
First the rep told me to try going to Settings > Locale and Text > Text Input. She asked what my settings were on, I said ABC. She told me to turn it to XT9 instead, then close out the screen, go back, then switch back to ABC. I did that, and no dice. I figured either the settings are frozen or I'm cursed.
Then she had me go to the screen to write a text msg. When your cursor is in the text box to write in, you will see a little keyboard icon at the bottom of the screen. There's a little arrow next to it. Click on that arrow. That brought up the options of Full QWERTY and Compact QWERTY, and apparently somehow my phone got switched to Compact QWERTY. So I switched back, and that fixed it.
So yeah, apparently there are a couple of different ways to change it.
I wanted to hug this woman through the phone, i was so relieved to be able to text again (I could not write out one single word while on Compact QWERTY). I'm not sure if going this route can help anyone else but it was the answer for me. There may be other options for you when you click on the arrow next to the keyboard.
Good luck!

No word completion pop-up

I've become the proud owner of a Touch HD just yesterday. The thing I find oddest about it so far is that I don't get any word completion pop-ups as I enter text. I'm not talking about just the HTC-specific input methods either; it doesn't happen even when I use the Letter Recognizer or the standard Windows Mobile keyboard.
I've turned on all options I could find that looked remotely related to this, and I have yet to see a single word completion pop-up since I got this device. Am I missing something or are those pop-ups not available on this device for some reason?

i can't speak for all methods, but i always use HTC's FULL QWERTY, you just need to "flick the switch" from "ABC" to "T9", this switch is somewhere to the left of the space bar. hope that helps

Thanks. Just tried it, but that's not what I'm talking about. If you haven't used another Windows Mobile device before (and Palms using graffitti used to have this too, I think), you might not have seen this, but when writing on the keyboard or letter recognizer (or block recognizer), WM pops up a menu of completion options after you type in one or a few letters (depending on your settings). For example, if you type "ob" you might get a list that contains "obese, obstruct, obvious"; and when you add a "v" to make it "obv", the list would refresh to show "obviate, obvious", etc.
What you've described to me is just the T9 guessing mechanism, which always suggests options with the same number of letters as the number of keys you've typed to that point. It only makes sense when there is more than one letter per key, so that, when you type, say, a sequence of three keys, there is ambiguity in which combination of the multiple letters on each of those three keys you might have meant, and the device shows you options of these combinations to pick from.
Incidentally (and this may sound pedantic, but), for that same reason, I don't see any point in using the T9 setting with the full QWERTY keyboard as you suggest, since there is no such ambiguity and the option that you'll see suggested is precisely what you've typed anyway.
If you've seen the other kind of completion options (i.e., "complete words for partial typing") let me know...

I'm sorry. I noticed that what I typed above wasn't correct.
I wasn't seeing full word completion suggestions in response to partially typed in words in T9 mode because I had the "word completion in T9 mode" option under "T9 Settings" disabled. Enabling it does provide full word completion suggestions after typing only a couple of keys. I stand corrected.
On the other hand, that's still not what I'm looking for, because that only provides a couple of options displayed horizontally on one line. You can't fit many word options onto that line. (At least not the longer ones.) I'd like to see the standard Windows Mobile behavior of popping up a menu of vertically stacked completion options where you may be presented with up to four selections of any length (sometimes including even multi-word completion options). The HTC-specific input methods with their own peculiar completion behavior are fine by me, but I don't understand why I don't still have the default Windows Mobile completion behavior when I switch to one of the standard Windows Mobile input methods!
Actually, even the HTC-specific input behavior is a little screwy. There's also a "word completion in ABC mode" option under T9 Settings, but even when I enable that, I get no word completion options after switching to ABC mode in the compact QWERTY or full QWERTY input methods...
A few things definitely seem wrong with word completion behavior on the Touch HD. I just hope someone here might have enough insight into the matter to know of a fix or workaround...

Scratch that... I've seen this work now too. I suppose it was a little stubborn, or needed a close-and-reopen of the keyboard first...
In any case, my original issue still stands: I'm looking for the "plain old" Windows Mobile word completion suggestion pop-up when using letter recognizer or the standard keyboard, with the vertical list, which fits more options of longer words.
If anyone knows of its whereabouts, please chime in!

I was about to start a post just like yours..I've enabled word completion but I don't see anything. Also, when I open the tool Dictionary Editor I don't see any suggested words at all. And when I add one or two of my own, it still don't work. There must be someone who knows more about this issue ???
bump...this would be helpful
also, does anyone know how to make it so T9 starts suggesting words after typing only 1 letter?

IMPORTANT: previously be sure that HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9\XT9SupportMSSip has a value of 0.
Simply change these two registry keys under:
HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\layouts\e 0010409
Ime File : \windows\xt9ime.dll change to Ime File :\windows\compime.dll
and
Layout Text : XT9 IME change to Layout Text : COMP IME

... this should fix the problem. Kudos to beemerTPPC.
Gave to above a go, but found those settings were already there!
But strangely, after a couple of soft off/ons the letter recogniser, block recogniser, standard keyboard and SPB keyboard all have word completion.
The HTC offerings are weirdly different;
The full qwerty only offers word completion when you type the first three letters of a word then hit backspace to delete the last character typed. The same happens with the compact qwerty and phone keypad, but rather madly they will not let me type letters at all... only numbers... very odd!
The above solution enables me to have the Word Completion popup witth the following keyboards: 'keyboard' and 'block recognizer' and 'letter recognizer'.
It is not supported with the 'Full QWERTY' (my main keyboard). It removed the T9 completion that was there (and was not adequet). Now I cannnot use both ABC and T9 modes.
Is there a way to have both the T9 and the word complete popup, or at least the latter (the ppopup word complete) when in ABC mode on the 'Full QWERTY' keybord?
Please advice
Thanks

phonepad texting doesn't remember words

Hi,
has anyone noticed (or maybe not having the same problem as me) that when using phonepad in T9 mode and writing messages, it doesn't remember the words that you have selected.
for example HE uses the same letters as IF, now...on my old HD, if I typed HE and then selected HE from the list, then type HE again and selected it from the list, next time I typed the keys for HE, the phone would remember that I have used HE the most and HE wold be the fist option in the list....I've done this countless time, but HE is still 5th or 6th in the list of words (ID, which isn't even a word is always first)
as a side issue, one of the first things I always do is edit the T9 dictionary to add my name and other words etc following this..the T9 doesn't remember any new words that I add (I thought it as supposed to do this automatically?)
thanks for reading
Same here
I ve turned T9 of due to this
actually it does.
I had this problem before and only a bit of playing around worked.
Basically, you need to go in to text input settings (can be done from the keyboard pop up menu) and turn ALL the XT9 settings on (i think one or two are off by default)
then, when typing something new, simply turn off the t9, write in the new word then tap on it on the suggestions bit and it will save it to your XT9 dictionary.
Bare in mind that for shorter things, it doesnt for some reason.... only really 3 letter words like uni or bro. for these you need to find the xt9 program, open it and add it.
Hope all that makes sense?
Oh and the HE/ID/if thing sorts itself out after you've selected them about a million times. annoying i know but haven't found a workaround for that.
It does it for me. I've very happy with the way T9 learns from me, even to the point where it's suggesting things like usernames and email addresses when I start typing them.

[Q] Gingerbread SMS dictionary issues

Hello!
I have searched this and found little about it, so I'm gonna ask you about it.
I have LeeDroid HD running Android 2.3.3. I have 2 main issues regarding the sms app: the red dotted line that appears when using words not recognized by the phone (I write my messages in Romanian), and the fact that, when I tap a word in the message (say I typed a wrong character in the middle of it), instead of moving the cursor at that position and allowing me to edit freely, it moves it there, selects the entire word, and presents me options from an English dictionary to choose from as alternatives for the word. When I try to move the cursor back and forth, it navigates the suggestions, and the only way of getting out of them is to tap a white space, then navigating to the needed position with the arrow keys. All the options under Language and keyboard > Touch Input are unchecked (Spell correction, Prediction and Word completion). Am I doing anything wrong? Is it a way to bring back the behaviour of good old 2.2 sms app, or do I need to switch to a custom, less time consuming sms app?
Thank you!
