The process is the same. Some of the apps have changed names. Just be sure to do a backup before you start and be careful about what you remove. You should be fine. I've pulled out many of the applications and my phone works great. If, however, it doesn't work for you, you'll always have your backup, right?

Hey, subcypher, I need your help. I have rooted my HTC Hero with Sprint and have the clockworkmod rom manager and superuser. How do i remove the sprints apps I don't want and get some good ROMs. I am really interested in getting my hands on a ROM focused on speed and stability. Tips?

Speed and stability? CM6 rc1.

where can I get this ROM? How do I remove the sprint apps I don't want? I can't find the link for it here.

is CM6 rc1 for the HTC Hero? That's what I have. my phone is rooted, I have ClockworkMod Rom Manager and Superuser. What else do I need to get/do?

here is the link to CM6:

Got Froyo 2.2 rooted how to del new unwanted apps

OK...I am on stock 2.2 with the ClockworkMod manually added...I am a newbie but read this much to get it all working...
How do I get rid of the apps like
-My Verizon Mobile
-Skype
-VZ Nav
-QuickOffice
-etc, etc
I do not want them running in the background and AutoStart App is not stopping them on 2.2. Help any advice, detailed steps from the pros??
there is an app in the marketplace called "system app remover"
only works with root access. I can't verify that it works, but that is what it claims to do
If I were you I'd just flash rmk40's Virtuous ROM. Its main principle is stock froyo w/ sense, with unwanted bloatware reversibly removed. Rom Manager and Titanium Backup will be useful to you if you go this route. Check it out and see what you think...

A lot of roms can run live wallpapers, but the real problem is finding one that will work on the magic 32b or dream.
That said, does anyone know of perhaps a list of wallpapers confirmed to run smoothly on the more modest android devices?

LWPs just aren't worth it, the home screen is already slow enough, why bog it down even more and reduce your battery life at the same time. I can see how they're feasible for high-end devices, but not first-get armv6 devices.
Live wallpapers work fine on G1 and mytouch running OTA
Here's how
Uninstall any livepicker.apk
I put the com.android.wallpaper.livepicker.apk on my sd card and re-named it "live.apk" for simplicity then:
open up better terminal and run:
su
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/live.apk /system/app
reboot
I ran a fix_permissions as well..

I'm not sure I understand fix_permissions? Is that another command in terminal? Does my myTouch have to be rooted? Also, is the livewallpaperpicker.apk yoshua posted in this thread what you used?

fix_permissions can be done with a custom recovery, terminal (though you might need busybox?) or in rom manager.
Any livewallpaperpicker.apk should work

New Market 2.2.10 apk

Here ya go guys, it's Market v2.2.10. It installed and runs perfectly on my Crackflashers AOSP Gingerbread ROM. It's also fixed some issues where I would have to download something five or six times before it would install.
Parse error. Please post in a zip.

Here you go.
Blackrose, how did you install it?
I tried using Root Explorer to rename Vending.apk to Vending.apk.bak and then installing the file. I rebooted, but started getting FCs. I tried restoring the old Market but ended up needing to NANDroid. I am running Salvage Mod 9.6.
None of these are working.
Tried these and several others found around xda.. apparently its also being pushed to Nexus S. None of them work. Tried copying to /system/app and /data/app None of them in either place works.
Using stock 2.2 3.70 rooted rom.

I'm guessing it's because it was specifically designed for Gingerbread.
You have to push it via ADB..
ex..
adb push yourpathname\com.android.vending-1.apk /data/app

I pushed this one via ADB, and while it opens and things look ok, as soon as I tap on a product I get an FC.
Is there something that needs to be done to initialize it? I did clear all the market settings before trying it.
Solution
Its not really much of a solution, more like an insight.
The reason why no one can install the market is because you flashed a rom without the market, then installed a newer version of gapps. The newer version of gapps assumes you updated and still have the market apk installed. The gapps file only includes the apk to update the market app.
Flash an older copy of gapps and then boot your phone. Run the setup and then flash an updated gapps. You now have the updated market.
Also anyone that was having the home button not working issue, this resolves it. Home button stopped working as a result of the above issue. You may have to install a rooted stock rom and then flash cm 6.1.2 and then your kernel and then the gapps in the above order.

If your wife's phone is rooted and you install this, you will lose root. If that's not a big deal, then go for it.
does the update delete everything on your phone?
if so, how do u backup/restore stuff? and how do you get the apps/games u purchased back without rebuying?
any other issues to know about? does the update reinstall att bloatware? do i have to put it back to stock to update?
i rooted to uninstall that stuff and to be able to install 3rd party apps, but never used a custom rom.
i'd really like to be able to use my 8gb sd card for apps since i have no space, so i am thinking of updating now and rooting later once it's available.

If you are already rooted, then you should seriously look at and consider Liberated Aria FR008. This ROM is based off the European Gratia complete with HTC Sense and does not have any AT&T bloatware, has an OC kernel and also used Dark Tremors Apps2SD which is much better than the native Froyo App2SD feature. If you like HTC Sense and want the Froyo 2.2 features, then this is the ROM to use.
If you choose to install the AT&T Froyo 2.2 update, it will wipe your phone clean and you will loose root and you will be stuck with all of the AT&T bloatware with no way to remove it.
For apps that you bought and paid for in the Market, these apps are tied to your gmail account, so if you reset your phone, you can reload the apps from the Market without any additional charges.

Yes, flashing a new ROM will usually delete anything currently on your phone. If you are rooted, You can use "My Backup Root" to save your apps and settings, text messages and phone log and then restore them after you flash a new ROM.
Here is the official thread about CM 7 RC1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=956223
Here is where you can download CM 7 RC1 and the nightly updates. Starting with Nightly 11 the code base is now Android 2.3.3.

Yes, if you backup with myroot, you have to reinstall myroot from the Market and then you can restore the backup. Flashing a new ROM will not wipe anything on your SD card.
For contacts you can export them to your SD card or sync them with your Gmail account. If you export them to your SIM card, the CM 6/7 ROMs cannot read them off the SIM card.

CM 7 is based on Android Open Source Project code. It is almost as pure Android as you can get UI and interface wise. You can still customize the UI with widgets and such, especially if you buy some from the Market. So bottom line is with CM 7 you can customize the phone however you like.
HTC Sense is the UI that is built into the stock Aria and now the AT&T Froyo update. That UI uses special widgets developed by HTC to enhance the user experience and these widgets only run on an HTC Sense ROM. Will you miss Sense? It's hard to say. It's really a personal preference.

so do i have to start off with the original update-cm-7.0.0-RC1-Liberty-signed.zip

also, what about this app2sd dark tremor thing. do i need that? why is it better than the regular app2sd?

You can just flash the latest CM 7 nightly, but you need to follow the installation steps listed in the CM 7 RC1 thread first (i.e. format system, format data, format cache, etc.).
DT Apps2SD isn't as big of deal if you are going to run CM 7 IMO. If you were going to use the Liberated FR008 Sense ROM I would recommend it because it does a better job than the Froyo 2.2 APP2SD.

ok thanks a bunch!!! i'll try this tonight when i get home from work. downloading everything now through logmein to my home laptop.

A few questions about Custom rom's.

I know this is the wrong section but I got some kind of feeling that there are more people looking in this section.
I have read some guides in the Development section (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537'
But I got some questions about rooting/S-off.
Why is rooting/S-off necessarily, why can't I just put the rom on my SD and go right into recovery mode and boot it up from there?
Also the program visionary plus, I hate that thing so much.... At this step:
Open Visionary and tap temproot, then attempt permroot now. Your device will reboot.
How the hell do I open it? I use Astro File manager or something to go to the file but I can't install the program on my mobile/SD card >.<
Also what do I need to do more besides Wiping my phone? In this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11557769
It says to flash a Radio is this a must? Or is the S-off/Root enough.
Thanks already

No, the DHD has a protected system which precludes overwriting the system partition so without S-OFF you can not make any permanent changes.

So basically I'm screwed? Since I need to downgrade to root, and to backup you need to have root >.< but when you downgrade you lose everything xD
I will try it tonight ._.
If you want to back up the new GB OTA ROM then yes but if you just want to back up your apps then No, you don't need root.
Titanium works with root but doesn't need it. Also, if you ticked to let Google keep a backup then your apps will be re-downloaded when you next perform a wipe.

Screw this I can't even manage to downgrade my mobile because the CMD commands don't find my device nor can I normally install the adb drivers.

Using Windoze is great....
One word for you: Linux.
At the risk of high jacking this thread, have you installed HTC Sync? Can you connect to HTC Sync? If not, try another USB port (if using front port use back ports or vice-versa). If none work uninstall HTC Sync and reinstall it after rebooting PC.
If that works when you are in adb (making sure USB Debugging is on) try
Code:
adb devices
Do you get a result?
