currently running froyd and am happy with it just wondered whether someone has experience of both if so whats the differences between the two and which is best overall? Not interested in overclocking or anything really technical. thanks
I know someone will say it, so I might as well be first. Rather don't ask people, but instead grab a copy yourself and test it out. It's really based on your own opinion. Each ROM works differently for others.
With features such as nandroid backups these days, there really isn't much of an excuse for not trying out alternative ROMs. If you like it, then keep it. If not, then nandroid back. However, with that said, I think both are on par with eachother and both have achieved outstanding results. It really breaks down to the small things, which you'll need to experience yourself.
ok thanks 1 problem though cant see an option to download the fusion rom?
At this stage its kinda like comparing apples with worms in with pears with worms in..
Yes its different fruit but the bugs are the same..
I haven't tried either so feel free to shoot me down but the reason for this is that I feel devs are focusing on getting everything working (which is a good thing). But because of this I feel theres not really one 2.2 rom that particularly stands out..
I'd love to be proven wrong though!! still rocking out on cm6 nightlies....
both are same
i had fusion first and later came fryod so installed fryod expecting abetter but was really disappointed because both rom turned to be exactly same, same problems in both rom just looked like fryod was a copy of fusion just a different name. now i see fusion got update but fryod is still with same problem.
known issues-
camera is only 3mega pixels
no camera preview and force closes.
crashes when u try to view a flash video
no live wallpaper
no touck key to answer a call.
thiese problems are with both fusion and fryod
CyanogenMod 6.0 is the only Froyo ROM there is, and Fusion and Froyd are each tweaks to the CM6 base. Until CM6 is finalized or Feeyo releases his Froyo-from-source ROM, they're all essentially the same. Villain probably has some kernel tweaks, and Fusion too, but all the bugs are all going to be there.

Some more respect to the real developers.
I suspect your ROM will just be another compiled-straight-from-source-and-nothing-else ROM, right?
Hehe, I guess he got a reputation? Please let my previous comment slip then

Not necessarily, and 2: you misunderstood.
There are a few talented devs around, and I don't understand why everybody's copying CM's work.
CM is a great dev, but what pisses me off in the Hero section, is that everybody's ripping his work instead of trying to get it work on their own.
Innovation, make your own path, NOT imitation.

Well... I cannot stand the never ending begging for money from Villain and nprussel....
Villain is something like a tabloid newspaper for roms......
anyway, back on topic.
for me, difference is:
fusionrom 2.2 update 4 works great. really solid now. aside from borked camera, once you receive a phone call the trackball light notification works, the froyo-style apps2sd works (with the included cyanogenmod6 improvements allowing any app to be pushed to sd that way). it's very fast (4.5 to 4.7 linpack for me stock withotu the software overclock kernel mod). apps and games run amazingly well on it. has an issue where system.process.media (or similar) fcs after a while and after trying the gallery. I think that might be a gallery issue and maybe will be fixed soon, I don't know though. saw the same issue in froyd once but not again later?
froyd 1.0 works... ok, but it's slow. it has very nice features, the ext partition apps2sd support is nice to have (no manual file moving needed). however there are reasons to like manual moving as well, I'm a control freak, good to let me decide where to put it. but this ext parition method is certainly easier, really fast and transparent. nice. however the kernel is slow, 3.5 linpack (slow for froyo). also lots of random slowdowns. experimental kernel flash works really well and is very fast (got 5.1 linpack at 729 mHz on my phone). I did encounter some issues, not sure if it was my clock speed (which was always fine @ 729 on 2.1 roms but could be the issue still with jit froyo pushing it harder maybe). issues were google nav and some 3d games just quitting without warning and without fc messages. just quitting. google nav was serious, I was driving and it was just... gone after a few minutes. game was annoying, was playing monopoly, 20 minutes of playing, then just gone with no record of gameplay :-(. again that could be my cpu speed setting though, haven't tried further.
both ahve borked camera and no video (since video is just a recording of the screen preview... why on earth can't they write a REAL video recorder for android on the hero??? it should be possible... stupid screen capture video...)
Having tried both Froyd and Fusion, I went back to the CM nightly builds. The 20/07 build is pretty much there with everything except the camera and fb sync working. Have sorted this by using camera magic and syncmypix.
for me, this one is fast snappy and definitely the best 2.2 around currently.
@adwinp. U right.I'm not in position to comment here.so do u. Pls show some respect to other dev. As a dump user here.I do appreciate and respect all Dev works. At least I don't called it CRAP.

Once, more, you're misinterpreting; crap was related to the CM-rips, not CM itself.
I hope I made myself clear.
by the way, this thread really should be about which is better between:
froyd
fusionrom
cm-nightlies
the cm-nightlies are, imho, ahead of the rest. but they're nightly builds so you take a big gamble when you grab one and install it. However if there is going to be a successful camera fix my bet is that it will come from the cm-nightlies for hero team.
Just saying.... but for me I'm running fusion until some major progress happens from... someone
cheers

There's no mention of me asking for money, nor have I charged for any release. There's no begging, whatsoever infact. I mention it in my sig - but who doesn't?
I am a bit fed up of all the bad-mouthing I'm getting around here recently. We've not ripped anyone off.
We're in the process of making some pretty major changes/fixes to FroydVillain, and one of our developers is currently re-compiling a Froyo ROM from source - ie, pure vanilla.
As for which ROM is better... they're different. When we release our new kernel, expect over 5 mflops at a stable OC of around 748 Mhz.
Test them both, but before you make a judgement on Froyd, test it with the new (fixed) kernel - which is significantly better than the one Lox released. Ninpo over at the VillainROM forums will be more than happy to explain what makes it significantly faster if anyone's interested!
Anyway... less hate is definitely required around here
Hey there! Relatively new to flashing ROM's and such. Rooted last Friday and I've been playing with a few different ROM's the past couple of days. I flashed Koni's Elite Series II ROM last night and I love the ROM. I still hate the battery life on the EVO so I put King's CFS #11 Kernel on it (read some where this was a great Kernel for battery life). Everything was running fine and I installed SetCPU on and had it on 'Conservative'.
It rebooted out of no where and whenever it was booting back up during the boot screen I could tell there was 2 different shades of black. Whenever the phone booted up and I got to the actual phone and dragged the lock bar down you could see little lines (running vertically) up and down the screen and it was reaaaaal laggy. So I figured SetCPU did something to my CPU and was making it bottleneck or something like that, so I uninstalled it. Didn't fix the problem so I restored back to Myn's WarmTwoPointTwo.
So, I love the ROM, and could probably use a crash course with ROMs/Kernel compatibility. If anyone has a link, or even a direct answer as to the thread title, that'd be great.
Appreciate the help!
I am pretty sure that rom is a Sense based rom, so your options for a kernel are pretty broad.
-Netarchy Kernels-Seem to work great for everyone around here and a lot of people are big fans of, I have used some and never had a problem
-Ziggy's- Can be found at www.ziggy471.com and when I did use Sense these were a favorite for me, and gave me the best battery life. With SetCPU use the Smartass governor from my experience was flawless.
-Tiamat- Just came out with a Froyo kernel, I can say that his AOSP kernels are amazing so I would imagine the Froyo would be just the same.
*A handfull of these kernels use SBC and will state if they do. This will give you phenomenal battery life. I have never been a fan and some say that it may cause issues with your battery and your phone(you can read the stories on here). Many have used without a problem though, so if you do you assume the risk.
You will have to decided if you want to use CFS vs. BFS, personally for battery life I prefer CFS but some say otherwise. Ultimately you have to just try them out because not all phones are created equal and will not work the same for everyone. I think there is a thread in Q&A in regards to everything Kernels.
Whew. Thanks a ton for the information. I guess King's Kernel's don't work with this particular ROM. That's fine though.
I'll definitely check out Ziggy's kernel's and see how they work. I've read a couple of the horror stories from SBC based kernel's. I may try one out in the future if I get desperate.
Good to know what kind of ROM it is. Really appreciate the info.

Yeah I checked that website out too. I was just confused on what Kernel's go with what ROM's.
I'm really computer savvy and that didn't happen in 3 days, so this will just take some time.
Update: Just flashed Ziggy's newest EVO kernel. Will use this for a day or two and see how it works.
For the SetCPU Smartass Governer? Do I need to download SetCPU in the market and use the setting through it?

It all depends on what you want to do actually. I believe his kernels are set to Smartass by default, and there is a built in screen off profile that lowers your cpu speed when the screen is off to conserve battery. If you want to create anymore profiles than you will have to get it yes.
Just made the jump to my DHD from my HD2, was cheffing for the HD2 for 18 months so thought i would start again LOL
i have made myself a build, was wondering if anyone would be interested in it if i share
its going to be for the not particularly experimental people who need and want a really stable, stock(ish) CM rom
Froyo CM 6.1.3, uber stable
Really clean, no junk apps at all
Several performance tweaks, quadrant ~ 2300
Standard CM kernel (until i build my own)
thoughts please

gosh darnit i have put this in the wrong section, would a MOD mind miving it to the rom development section please

No problem, on thinking about it it is probably better here until I release anyway!
How about cm7 with fixes and all since cn7 looks a helluva lot better than froyo

I appreciate you've probably put a lot of work into this for your own use, but all your really proposing is CM 6.1.3 with all the crap removed and some tweaks thrown in, I agree with the latter posters that you'd better serve the community by getting your development prowess behind teamdouche in the push towards CM7 stable than releasing this.
already got my GB rom well underway, just finalizing it really (it will be a direct port of CM7 RC2 at the moment)

Hmm, he might be lightening, we never know. What we really do need is a CM7 ROM with Lee/Mike/Segio's performance and tweaks included. Now that is a ROM from heaven But Lewarne, your work is much appreciated
i shall say nothing other than let my reputation with HD2 roms speak for itself
i wont release it for a while though
Patience is a virtue I'll look at your HD2 ROMS
i have to say though im not that impressed with CM7+2.3.3
i find it quite unstable (tried lots of the rom ports on here) and a little laggy compared to froyo.
eg, im making the same basic rom (same apps, general system tweaks etc)
CM6+froyo - quadrant of 3300 @ 1.5ghz
CM7+gb - quadrant of [email protected] 1.5ghz
Now i know that quadrant is not a good benchmark, and is highly vulnerable to synthetic changes. However, nearly a thousnd points is a lot of variance, so i ran a linpack run on each, taking an average of 5 runs
CM6+froyo - 49 mflops @ 1.5ghz
CM7+gb - 45 mflops @ 1.5ghz
that is again quite a large disparity! visually, i actually prefer froyo as i find GB a bit too dark, and its certainly mature and stable. Even checked out the battery drain on my froyo rom, getting around 10ma or less on idle consistently, and thats with the standard CM kernel !
i dunno, would you guys at least like to try.look at my froyo build? im much more confident in it than i am GB at the moment.......
If u can get one of the recent battery drain fixes for cyanogenmod in ur Rom I certainly would love to try ur Rom, performance tweaks in combination with battery fixes sounds good to me!
Looking forwArd to seeing ur work in action
i was living quite fine with froyo, before flash cm7, some tweaks are really hard to leave. specially long press in search button to open an app and long press in back button to close an app... and beside it, i'm getting 3~5 mAh of battery draining with mad patch in gb and with stock cm6 kernel it is 12~14...
these are the main 'problem' with cm froyo build for me! =oP
i agree with you that cm7 is really unstable when compared to froyo, cm7 has wi-fi problems, gps problem, rotate problems, radio problem... quite annoiyng to be fixing point by poiint.
if you realese your rom, certainly i'll flash, but i think your knowledge would be more appreciated fixing issues from cm7. =o)
I am sure the inspire 4G community would appreciate it as well .

How it is compared to HD2 in terms of build quality?!
To be honest i've been reading a bit in here and i'm not assured about it
It looks DHD have many build issues (without mentioning the expected bad battery issues)!
It looks it have issues with:
-GPS fix!
-camera lens misaligned!
-battery cover and sim cover misplaced or bumping out!
-dust under screen (which means unsealed gaps!)
-died pixels!
-...
It's really freaking me out! If i haven't touchscreen issues with HD2 i wouldn't sincerely think of switching!

Do you or do you not want blur? If you do want blur, maybe try aura or alien. If you don't, stay with CM.
Try Aura debloat version. Has almost all blur crap removed. Faster than CM7 also except on boot up.
Assimilated via WinBorg 4G
Alien: most stable and best battery life of the roms I've tried
Aura: lean running and most updated of the existing roms, although battery life is slightly worse than Alien. Darkside is really an extension of Aura in my book and it's the rom I currently use.
CM7: I love this rom for all the cool new customizable features, but no fingerprint scanner is a deal breaker. Someone said "some people forget there was life before the fingerprint scanner", well there was life before electricity too. I don't want to give up on one of the most convenient aspect of my phone when there are other alternatives.
I'm using the bionix v1.3.1 with dragon 1.4 kernel, its real fast and smooth on my vibrant

I hate threads like this and the title makes me hate it even more.
Atrixn00b, try uninstalling facebook, I've heard it screws your battery pretty hard.
also, install watchdog and check if you have any other rogue apps
Does red pill have a big theme base like cm7 and is it as user friendly?
Depends what you use for phone for. All the de-blur roms I used broke contacts and corporate email, sometimes even sms. Seemed like the majority of them took an exisiting rom, removed the blur .apk applications, and broke a lot of usability for some speed.
I think the whole fastest rom thing is a bit of bs. Almost every rom ive ran has been speedy aside from the official 4.5.91, or froyo with all the ATT apps installed.
Alien4 was the last rom and probably the most stable, also the best battery. Speed is terrific, near CM7. All around the best rom imo. Better corporate mail client than CM7 too w/ search functionality.
CM7 was not stable for me but showed a lot of promise, I had dialer issues and some weird app hangs. Felt like I was constantly needing to reboot to get things working again. Looking forward to future releases though.
Okay yh it does break some functionality but blur did do much for me anyways as i just replaced it all with handcent and stuff like that so it doesnt bother me much about lost functionality, but i tried alien and didnt really like it tbh im using cm7 because its what i have been recomended multiple times

I don't believe that for a second! I think auras battery is phenomenal as good as any other rom probably even better, but just like any new rom you flash. you gotta callibrate your battery of course or you may have poor performance.

I don't really have poor battery performance. Right now I am at 1 day and 6 hours with 5hr 34min of screen time and battery of 28%. I just mean that when I was on Alien I had slightly better battery life.
I don't keep track of statistics because of generally excellent battery life. However at the end of my work day I find Alien to be slightly better.
Anyway, with the latest Faux kernels battery is phenomenal, I'm not sure how much the minor differences between roms would matter. They generally all have excellent battery life and stability. Many many thanks to Faux and the Aura/Darkside/Alien rom developers.
I changed my radio from 33p to 30p. Now it could use two days one charge.

Yes I know the rules, but I figured someone would've started a discussion in the general area. Oh well, guess I just did.
I don't know what I expected actually, my experience on any forum is that most people don't research on their own, they come to forums and if the answer isn't there, they give up. I love googling for new undiscovered gems.
Hi!
First of all, I would like to thank you wholeheartedly for the interest in ShinTo Kernel and your time in testing it.
I am sincerely blown away by the spike in interest... Just wow!
In the space of two months I have moved twice across Europe and am currently getting settled in my new home (and waiting for the darn broadband).
I can assure you two things; ShinTo Kernel & PreCog.me are not a hobby.
They are my daily work focus (as in my daily job).
I could extend myself talking about the great projects I have but I am the kind of person that prefers to prove with facts so... Keep an eye on PreCog.me
Ps: i don't want to monopolize the thread so... If you have any specific questions or I can help out in any way, then please do ask
Ps2: I am eternally grateful to xda, civato and all the great ppl here...

For some interesting stuff why not head to PreCog.me

Note3 N9005 running the insanely brutal [ShinTo Kernel] v028a005 yeaaaah!

ooooh i can't wait! :highfive:
ShinTo Kernel v028a005 has over 50 updates/enhancements/fixes and it is compiled with the latest bleeding edge Linaro Toolchain GCC 4.9.2
I also fixed the cosmetic issue of not displaying the kernel name correctly in the TW settings app.
If there are no unforeseeable issues, it should be released around the middle of the week

And it runs smooth as silk....
Just to update you guys; there's a slight delay with QA, but it will be released this week, probably tomorrow or friday.
Thx!
Is Faux Sound compatible with this kernel?

Yes it is
ShinTo Kernel for note 3 has been released!
Can anyone post a cycle of their battery life with this kernel? And a benchmark would be nice too(I know what you'll say but please one would be appreciated thanks!). Thanks!

Why?
Your setup and phone use is completely unique. Anyone else's battery life will not give you the slightest clue as to what yours might be.
Flash it and see for yourself.

Benchmarks are different from device to device. They're not a true statement about a kernels performance. I get insane battery, I get lightning fast speeds and I love using the kernel. This is a discussion of the kernel in this thread, that's why I started it. This is not an official Dev thread, that will come later from the Dev. Of you're interested in it, head over to precog.me and read the official kernel page.

Actually it can serve as basis. For example if that user is able to achieve 10hrs SOT, then at least I know that the kernel is capable of going that far. No matter how you force a kernel, if it has bad battery life then it can never achieve high SOTs. It actually us very helpful for one to post battery stats because I can then adjust and try to get close or even surpass the user's settings.
With all due respect, I think you are wrong in saying it won't give me the slightest clue of what the battery life of mine will be. It actually can tell a lot(if I'm doing things wrong or right). That's how users learn how to improve their devices by getting tips from others. And for that reason I'm refraining from flashing it because I have a very good set-up. I know I can go back just with flashing the stock kernel, but we all know that sometimes it doesn't really work 100%. "Something" gets broken somehow at a random chance.

Fair enough, but I still disagree.
For example - on my last cycle I got nearly 8 hours SOT and about 1 day 13 hours on one charge. What can one infer from that? I say another user can infer very little, there are way too many variables.
I use Alliance ROM. This was my first cycle with this kernel. I use only 100% black wallpapers, system, desktop, and lockscreen are all black. One homescreen. Brightness about 40% except for videos. Tasker is set so that screen off=WiFi and data off, and I use a flip cover. I've deleted over 100 apps. I've removed about 25 autostarts with SD Maid, usually only use about 750 mb at startup. I never sync anything whatsoever. Two widgets, clock/weather and music. Location is always off unless I'm navigating.
I could go on, there's more, but I hope you see my point. And that's before the vast amount of kernel tweaks I've set up with Faux Clock, which I'll probably tweak further. And I haven't even mentioned my usage....
With further cycles I'll probably squeeze more juice out of it, who knows?
If you think this will give you any idea about your battery life, fine. But I can't see how it can.
As for benchmarks - a waste of time if you're comparing with another device, only remotely useful if you're comparing performance with different setups on the same phone, IMHO.
