Today I had 3 new emails in the inbox, I can actually see them marked in bold in the email list within the inbox, but the unread count was 2, I killed the Gmail app, logged in again and the same thing, do yo know why ?, thanks
It's happened to me also. What I did was to log in on the PC, marked everything read. Then re-sync the gmail app. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.
This was happening to me after restoring some apps using Titanium backup. Going into Settings>Applications>Manage Applications - Clear data/cache from gmail app.

+1 me either...
I fixed this problem by deleting the account and recreating it. Turning off sync and then back on again did not solve it.

I actually prefer to use the email app. Problem is, the email app doesn't seem to download updates until I open it (even with it on ignore in Task MGR). Email app set to download every 10 mins. The Gmail app, however, seems to auto download updates.
Any seen or know of a solution?

The Gmail app supports push notifications, which means as soon as you get an email, you'll get it on your phone. But with the email app, it resorts to polling (checking for new messages every 10 minutes) so it refreshes only when you open it
Lucky you, but my gmail app doesn't do anything. I feel that its always off since I don't get any email notification on ie.
Makes sense. I just like the look of the email app better, but I guess u need to stick with gmail for the push ability.

Go to Settings in the Gmail app and make sure that Email Notifications is checked. That's the whole point of using Gmail compared to Hotmail/Yahoo.. (atleast for now)
It annoys me how you can't select multiples in th stock app. I use K9, it has colours (including led flash) for each account, push, and most importantly, multiple select.

Can the SE email app be removed without causing any problems?

What about in Settings/Data Sync - I think you need Google Sync, and then Google Mail Sync selected too.
settings ---> data synchronization ---> synchronize with Gmail
right, I forgot to check that back after the 100th times of rooting.
Thank you,

Try resyncing before closing Gmail... The server may not have registered what you've done on your phone.

I guess that would make sense. I thought that because I enabled the undo feature, one would need to wait for a spell to sync up....but your answer makes more sense. LOL
Tried what was started above an it didn't help what can be causing this should I uninstall and then reinstall market gmail?
Try actually going into applications and deleting the data on Gmail then force sync it.

Weird! I have 2 Arias at the moment, 1 running Sense, and one running CM6.1, both have not received an email notification and have not synced since last night!

mine was.
i found somewhere last night after a lot of googling, to go into SETUP - APPLICATIONS - GMAIL and "clear cache".
it'll just basically wipe out all the email gmail has downloaded and cached on the phone causing it to redownload the same email off the gmail servers. nothing will be lost.
gonna see how it fairs today.

Did mine last night. Rebooted this morning after leaving it on the charger overnight. It's been back to normal for me.
Must be random. I know they had server issues back on the 11th according to their app statuses on Google's site
Try this
Go to settings>Accounts & Sync>Google>toggle Sync Gmail off and on
Then you should be able to sync.
.
And it happens both in 3G and WiFi?
Yeah, its really bizarre... so, I am able to sync a second gmail account, and it works fine! Just not my primary. Spoke with ATT & HTC, now I guess its Google's turn! LOL

Google won't sync for me
I've tried all of above suggestions, to no avail. When I press gmail, I get a screen that says "waiting for sync" and then "Your email will appear shortly." Nothing ever happens, and it's been over a week.
I thought about deleting the account and recreating, but it won't let me delete it.
I'm using HaxSync already but it creates new account and stores pictures in it's own. Are there any app takes photos from fb and overwrites them to google contacts?
Check out HaxSync's Advanced Settings
There are 'n' number of such apps
I believe HaxSync already does that for you, but if you want a free alternative, you can try some of these...

Yes there is an option for it in HaxSync but it didn't work. For me at least. Also it says, "overwrite photos stored in google" So maybe it only changes if contact have a picture before sync. I didn't comprehend this fuction properly yet :silly: Trying your suggestions too now.

HaxSync writes the new pictures into the Google Contacts on your phone. It might take a while for the Google Sync to sync them back to the Google Servers.

Call me stupid, but where do I find the advanced settings.
In fact, I saw them one time, even could manually assign some pictures, but now it's gone.
I open Haxsync, it asks me what to sync and that's it.
Edit: Yes, call me stupid. Found it in the Accounts
Hey all so I've been using Gmail and this only happens every once in a while, and idk I clear data and everything works again but this time it isn't. The mails I send are stuck in outbox abs don't send no matter what I do. I've cleared data multiple times and uninstalled and reinstalled the app (for some reason it's not a system app in my Rom even after I flashed gapps), and still didn't work. Anyone know how to fix this, cuz it's really annoying.
Thanks!

Happens to me alllll the time.
I usually have to delete from the outbox folder then resend it. Then it works.
Weird. Pm me if you find solution.

I have no idea, it worked on the same configuration a couple days ago, I didn't change anything
It's something to do with the app.
There's been times it's jammed and stays in outbox and appears to not have sent but in fact it did.
Seems I remember clearing the cache in the Google app fixes it.
...... I just went and checked mine... There was 12mb in there.
Go to system settings, manage apps, scroll to Gmail and open, clear cache

Hmm I didn't try this, I only tried wiping data. I'll try this next time it's all messed up, cuz it's suddenly working again just randomly lol
Only wipe data as last resort it takes out all of your personal information as you now know! Removing the cache takes out residual leftover files that you were sending or receiving
If the cache button is ever greyed out that means there's nothing there to remove its already clear.

wiping data for the gmail app doesnt really get rid of your personal data, as it reappears when you open gmail and it syncs. anyways, wiping the data for the gmail app also clears the cache.

yes. only wiping data goes a step further by getting rid of any possible corrupted data in the app, not only cache.
