Spb mobile or HTC Sence? - HD2 General

So I really love HTC sense how it it looks and how its suppose to perform but i notice its buggy as hell especially with sms and music I dont want to flash my HD2 since Im just going to start flashing my phone every time their a new rom. Now im using spb mobile and seems to make the hd2 less buggy but its horrible looking its like having a nexus one with little widgets and not attractive at all in my opinion and spb mobile its like putting 3 or 4 layers of things on top of windows that makes it feel weird. I wanted to know what you guys use sense or spb mobile windows 6.5 home screen or the old 6.1 looking screen and whats more stable to you thanks?

i love sense for its integration and looks ie. weather and clocks... lol
love spb mobile shell for its speed customizing and stability
Try mobile shell with mskips wp7 theme LIGHTNING FAST

I don't like spb shell as much as I like Sense.
I tried it with Android theme, and the mskips wp7 theme, but I just don't like it.
spb does have the unlimited customization options, so in that aspect it's great, but Sense is nearly perfect for me in terms of eye candy and usability.

Does SPB shell support 6.5.x?

well i think im going back to sence i notice during a call with spb you cant open the keypad to press a number. good thing i didnt pay for it.

Yes you can, don't remember how since i am not using it now till v5 comes out but i know that you can. I think its a "Keypad" button.

I was running the full/paid spb mobile shell along with Naong's Sense HERO theme on top of it. liked it a lot and it was running very snappy/smooth.
however, since i upgraded my sd card to a class 6, lagging has stopped and only dealing with the sms lagging issue for now. i have since switched back to original htc sense ui.

Try Darkness 231's switcher
Darkness 231 has done a switcher application which I picked up from XDA developers. He has done a very good job, and thanks to him I can switch between Sense and SPB with a single press.
cab file attached here.
May Darkness and other good guys on the XDA site be blessed.

I take the the last comment back it was something I installed that wouldnt let use the number keypad or the touch screen when i was on a call. I had to do a hard reset and reinstall the apps again. It was my fault for installing apps i dont need just because they were free. lol im using htc sence ima give it a try again if it craps out on me ill just go back to spb shell

Did you have BSB Tweaks installed? It has an option called "Tap Time" which is known to screw with the phone screen and make the buttons not respond.

I like SPB but it seems too simple. I like how customizable sense is. I think alot depends on what your liking is what you intend to do with your phone.

I use SPB Mobile Shell and my wife uses Sense. Too each his own.

the free version is a little hard to get used to,I have a problem switching back and forth

SPB mobile shell
MobileSense - Espresso Mod will give you sense looks.
I like it because you can have your task list on the screen and it is very fast and stable.

SPB Mobile Shell for me. Not as much eye-candy, but has much more practicality and utility in getting where I need to fast without having to plow-through all the visual aesthetics nonsense of Sense.
Not a single freeze/lock-up so far using SPB Mobile Shell and disabling Sense.

That all depends on the user, I have 7.4 lite and I love it better than all the others! If you are looking for something more like I phone you can flash the lite HTC home and install ifonez 1.1.2. Its a cool and very Iphone like. But like I said, Its all based on what you want out of your phone! The best thing to do is start in the Hacking Development section and just start installing things and trying them out. That way you get to know about your phone and its limitations! But most important, Read, read ,read! And dont be afraid to ask, we are here to help eachother! God bless.
Edit: Here you go, check this out...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=436656
And Phonecanvas is the dialer used in some of the opentouch ROMs.
awesom reply dude. Thanks a lot.
I agree with DashMaster2000.
Version 7.4 TouchFlo2D is (in my opinion) the best ROM.
You have a lot of free storage space and there are only a few minor bugs.
But nevertheless alor credits to ttran001. He did a hell of a job...
My Opinion is 7.7 lite!
It comes without compression, so you don't have so much space, but it is faster and has no Manila 2D installed, so you can decide wich Interface you want!

i think the open touch with spb shell is the fastest with overclock

i would reccomend grabbing either 6.5 lite with no spb nd no tf or 7.7 lite and trying out a few of the iphone type theme's. or grabbing ivan's clean rom. i am currently using 7.5.1 pro with the updated icontact and have yet to see a problem. i have around 23MB of memory free after a day or two though the memory leaks and goes down to 20ish.

Yeah, I'm using 6.5 lite and it seems to me the fastest out of the bunch. Just overclock and viola.
overclock?
whats the easiest way to overclock on one of these roms, it seems like batterystatus thats cooked into the rom would let you overclock but I have no idea how to use it, some helpful links or suggetsions?

Use omapclockplus. Do a search. the latest version is 0.0.4 or something like that. BatteryStatus doesn't work.
Tried all the others..and I keep going back to 4.0 biggy.
I say the best is 6.5. Tried 7.7 and my .exe's didn't work. Plus, 6.5 lets me instal the t-mobile_customizations and my mms pics are the ORIGINAL size and not some ****ty 160x160 thumbnail .
Use HomeScreen Plus Plus to overclock. It also underclocks when your phone is sleepong which saves battery power .

Anyway, the most stable and fastest ROM in my opinion are the ones with HTC home screens.. Version 4 and version 5
They are both loaded with application..
With version 5 you would need to do the MMS thingy but its not that hard

Batterystatus was great but ended up being to complex with to much crap arounfd its original feature... Omap is the best option... try to overclock and if the speed is fine and as long as you have no surprise for a few hours, register the new speed so it is permanently set on your machine until a hard reset or a new flash...

Homescreen Plus Plus = Battery Status, theyre the same exact thing
but i think 7.5 Biggy is the best, im currently usinig 7.7 but its freezes too often. But im too lazy to reflash it so im waiting for ttran
Another vote for 6.5
The "black lite" version, with no touchflo or anything else. Lately I haven't even been running batterystatus/homescreen++ and the speed is fine, I might try omap soon.
For what it's worth, this seems to be the fastest, and most stable, plus I love the start menu using quickmenu, I'm very fast with it.
Another feature I recommend is the simple HTC home plugin for the today screen. It comes with the weather screen and launchers, photo dialer, etc. I also downloaded weatherbug for the today screen which has notified me three times this week of national weather service alerts in my area (very cool)
I used to hate iContacts, but the newer versions are much improved, and I like it now.
This is the most stable one I found when using a few gps programs simultaneously.
Hope it helps.
yea i agree that 6.5 lite is the fastest..ive tried every open touch rom and 6.5 is the most fastest to me

-widgets
-flexible engine (open development of widgets?)
-hardware accelaration support (will my mogul run faster?)
-facebook integrated into contacts!
-multiple home pages
-professional and lifestyle (huh?) layout
-kinetic scrolling
-fully customizable (themes supported?)
This can tide everyone over until 6.5! Way better than TouchFlo (IMO).
Amazing
Looks Amazing. Hmm Should I get ready to remove Manilla 2D off my Omina?

Not if SPB hasn't really done away with the standard Today screen. One of the reasons I didn't switch over to 2.0 was the fact that the Mobile Shell home screen did not replace the today screen. I know there's an XDA hack for that functionality, but MS 3.0 should take lesson from PointUI and replace today completely.
this looks awesome.
their standard/default themes always sucked. and somehow 3.0 looks just like 2.0 just with a little tune up..hmm...after all this announcements im a little bit disappointed.
was it announced when this would be available?
Uffff I think i would use this for sure!!! need a release date...
I am a little dissapointed. When I heard about Facebook integration, for some reason I was thinking of the ability to use chat, change status, etc... instead it is just a way to get the profile photo to the contact in your address book. Bummer.
I agree. Not much better than the current version. Should've integrated a few apps would've made it more useful. new version of mobile shell might make current skin invalid too.
So this is basically the same, but a little "upgraded." By not changing the overall idea at all, the same reasons I dont use 2 will be the same reasons I dont use 3. I was expecting so much more with the hype. PointUI kills this. Kills. When will they learn, keep it simple, make it customizable. Oh well.
It looks ok but PointUI didn't do anything for me either so I'll stick with my TF3D till either is truely better.
Glad to see they're trying something new since TouchFLO pretty much made me stop using Mobile Shell as it did what I needed, and it came with my OS, rather than having to install something on top.

JukEboXAuDiO, you seriously must be joking right! Pointui Home not customizable? Is being able to replace every graphic in the app, being the only UI with scripting support to allow you to build all sorts of applets and things, and being able to customize the background through the entire app not quite enough customization for you? Or are you referring to the old version released 12 mths ago?

Android like sliding animation for Switching screens in T-mobile HD2?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DogVofsUHHQ&feature=sub
Follow the link and watch closely towards the end, you will see that he slides the screen from the people tab to the homescreen and there is that android/Iphone like animation compared to my/our phone which currently just changes pages without any animation...
If the T-Mobile Roms truly have this feature can it be cooked into custom ROMS?
its just a marketing gimmick, its not how it looks in real life your HD2 and the T-mobile HD2 are the same
i see... Even so, is there a possibility of seeing this? Maybe a dev could do it?

Except the Rom sizes
Seriously, it would be really nice If HD2 could do "android-like" thing, the slide animation is just awesome!
if u like sliding pages u should try spb mobile shell with the sense theme.
it´s running very very well on the hd2.
but the fastest way to get through all tabs is using the slider, and this is why i stick to manila
5 seconds in: "screen sequence compressed and simulated". I think that's Marketing for, "this ain't real".
This feature would've been awesome! Im currently using SPB and an Android Theme and it looks totally cool!
Major advantages of ditching Sense UI for SPB is the Stability. The HD2 is rock stable without Sense! When I was using Sense I'd to soft reset my device atleast 5 times a day. With SPB everythings super smooth and rarely I reset my device!

but spb mobile shell is damn expensive, I'm only 16 and i don't think my dad will pay $30 for it...
my sense has been stable. it's only when i tried putting other things on the system that i've had issues
my phone swipes from side to side on the home screen, its using the slider bar just in the middle of the phone. try it and see for yourself it's not as smooth a tv but it does work

I dunno what you doin with your device but im using a stock rom and i needed only ONE soft reset in 4 weeks that wasnt needed after installation of a program.
So no freezes at all. If u use a custom rom it is just not part of the phone but maybe a software incompatibility.
Could you send me a screenshot of your android theme? I used SPB on my old Touch HD but the HD2 can run Sense so so fluid and stable on a stock rom

In my opinion, SPB mobile shell is very good.
It's HIGHLY customizable, there are lots of themes and icons available for download.
SPB replaces your default UI, so if you miss HTC sense, all you have to do is enable sense on the today's menu.
It's definitely worth looking into.
It looks nice, It works damn fast, and with right themes, it'll give you the perfect "Android" look you(someone) always wanted.
I mainly use HTC sense, but I do use SPB mobile shell quite often as well.
But to be honest, spb mobile shell is more of a fun toy to play with. real fun, though.
I would also like to know if it is considered illegal to download a copy of spb shell without paying. I don't have a problem paying especially with seeing how things work but I was just wondering if they're asking for a donation or pay to be able to put it on your phone.
I think it's good, but not better than HTC Sense.
yeh its good , better yet its the best app for wm.
it works better then sense for me.
i already use it since my touch and it works great .
customize the way you want verry easy.
SPB always offer a 15 day trial so you can give it a test drive

On the site of SPB you can download a trial. this is legal obviously. as far as i know this will work for 14 days.
have used mobile shell for a long time. fully customizable. in that view better than sense.
SPB MS is in my opinion the best shell available. But you should take some time getting to know it and customizing it to your liking; if you're looking for a quick setup you may be disappointed. Take some time and fiddle around with it and you'll end up with a wonderful shell. And, by the way, SPB have very good customer service!
Try googleing SPB Mobile Shell 5 and then have a look at some videos. Shell 5 isn't out yet, but looks absolutely fantastic.
Shell 3.5 works well for me, but I always seem to revert back to Sense UI. You could always look into Throttle Launcher, I have this too with the WM7S theme for it.
Try em and see what you think, it can't hurt to try.

I used spb mobile shell on my hd1. Since getting the hd2 I've stuck with Sense but when spb 5 is out I'll definitely be trying it - from the reviews and previews sounds like I might be replacing Sense with it.

Sense 2.5 + Cookie = much better than SPB Shell 3.5. I was a SPB user on TD2 but gave it up when I upgraded to HD2.

Why does Sense eat RAM - Novembre build fastest?

Have now tried to live with ffboy and aragon's Sense Builds - and have found the phone virtually unsuable. Actually Novembre's version 3 is my favourite - keeps some of the Tosh stuff and in particular all the input options are there.
Only snag - Novembre's phone looks very sad at the moment. Best of luck from London with our fascinating election!

Possibly innefficient use of graphics maybe, i can't see a reason for its size, compare it to SPB Mobile Shell for example. Actually i tried it and went back to Novembre5's other releases, i found manila on tg01 to be a bit slow, and a lack of familiarity with it made me decide to go back
I also found there were quite a few of the sense features that didnt work for me eg the weather and the weather wallpaper on the homescreen. I have gone back to SPB MS on top of novembres R2 ROM as its just so versatile, very very quick, and it works.

The aragon rom with a couple of simple tweaks works perfectly... yes it eats ram but considering that I don´t need to install many things to make it look gorgeous in all aspects, I didn´t notice that lack of rom at all! Indeed I have the weather working perfectly with animations and managed to change the wallpaper in sense tabs... it's beatifull now... and best of all.. everything made to work on htc devices only, works on tg01 also!
I never used sense before or anyother htc stuff so it took me a while to managed to understand its way of work, but now I see it's far better than spm mobile shell or anyother UI
Recomend it
