Do Not flash your Artemis with a different carrier/cooked Rom without cid unlocking

Noobs beware!
As a number have been flashing their devices with various roms not from their own carrier or country or cooked roms and bricking their device - I put up this sticky. Your device must be cid unlocked first before you do this. This applies to the coming wm6 roms to - if the rom is not specific to your device - i.e. if you try to flash the upcoming htc 3300 wm6 rom on O2 orbit - you must cid unlock first - with imei check or you will end up with a BRICK!
This does not apply if you are only updating the os http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299154 or radio.
cid = country id i.e. locked to that country/language/vendor
cid unlock for the artemis is here with USPL http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311403 (thanks pof)
or here http://www.imei-check.com/c3unlock.php (costs though)
Bricked devices
If you have flashed your device and not cid unlocked it, your device maybe salvagable if you can get it into bootloader mode.
Hold down the voice speed dial button and soft reset - you should then enter bootloader mode 'multicolored' screen'
If you do, attach device to pc via usb cable (a small usb will appear bottom left of screen) and flash factory rom. (run rom executable or RUU updater from pc) You do not need to be activesynced to do this.

You do need the factory rom for your device and then flash it from bootloader mode. Contact the dealer you bought your phone from or htc denmark.

Just a little too late! Anyone want to buy a bricked XDA Orbit? ;-)
Does anyone here work for the carriers? Can they provide an official O2 ROM to fix out bricked Orbit?

Its only truely bricked if the bootloader is damaged - if you can get into bootloader mode you can salvage with the factory rom.

Well you need the factory rom from o2 - o2 have not released it so there is a problem. I have not found any links to download this rom or a link to a dumped rom. I will ask others in the team if they know a link and let you know.
Did you manage to get into bootloader mode?

Yeah the device goes into the bootloader mode. If you could find out where i can get the factory rom from that would be great. Also if i could have instructions how to upload the rom in the bootloader mode i would really appreciate it.

First try to hard reset the device (search your manual how that works). If that doesn't work:
Try USPL and a different (WM6) rom a few times. Maybe search for a way to enter the boot loader, that's where/when USPL is executed. If you can enter that, USPL should be able to run I guess.

hi Farian 303
i also once bricked my mda compact3.
you probably forgot to use uspl (super cid unlocking) b4 installing your stuff (another rom etc) on it.
The only way is to send it to the company where u bought your telephone. If u have guaranty, then they will restore it for free for you.otherwise unless if u dont have guaranty, then go to erlan.nl and that guy will do it for you for 30 euro.

and one with B&B 4.3
Is this gonna work to unbrick my device? Because i don't know how to USPL from the bootloader?

if I have an orange branded phone when I hard reset what happens

hey guys if I hard reset my htc touch hd orange branded, will it the after reset become not branded with orange anymore.
Will i then be able to upgrade to latest roms from htc, and will my phone be locked, since now I am using a non orange sim on it.
no there is a block from upgrading roms, but there is always a way
firstly you have to flash HSPL
when that is complete you can then flash any of the roms featured here. remember to read thoughrly the instructions as written and youll be fine

Hey mate, go ahead and Flash your HD, its the best thing ive done, wm6.5 on NRGZ's Rom is awesome.. Just make sure you use crackwhore's guide. Let us know what you think.
Firstly when you hard reset your phone it will default back to what ever ROM it was loaded with when bought. So if it had and orange ROM on when purchased it will stay an orange ROM.
Secondly, if you are wanting to flash a custom ROM then you will need to have either HSPL flashed or use the USPL method.
If your phone is locked to orange (which it mos likey is you will need to have it SIM unlocked which you can find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521206.
Hope this helps a bit, If you need anymore info on flashing ROMs then look in the ROM section here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=453
Hope this helps

You need active sync from microsoft to sync with pc, or you can just plug it in with usb and use it as a removable drive, follow the tutorial on the rom section to debrand and unlock your o2 HD2 by upgrading to the new 1.48 roms...
thanks richie,
i will download active sync now, but i have a question,
im tryng to find the rom section but i have found quite a few posts, im really confused, what is SPL??
do i just install 1.48 and that should debrand and unlock my device??
and what is goldcard???
im coming from an n97, and have been using symbian for over 5 years, so i apologize in advance
o2 will now let you unlock it,maybe for free...more info on that here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5054228&postcount=2
The latest 1.48 ROM cannot be loaded without using goldcard, on an O2 HD2.
For Windows Vista and 7, you need Windows Mobile Device Center (activesync renamed).
It on the windows mobile site to download.

Follow this thread to the letter and you won`t go wrong....
Useful info!
Chaps,
Once this has the 1.48 installed on it will it then be able to be upgraded with ROM's from the HTC site in future without the use of a GoldCard?
Or will it need to be network unlocked too?
Is this GoldCard business needed because the O2 HD2 is network locked?

For now you will need to use the goldcard method for installing the roms from HTC as they have not yet gone official..I can`t see it affecting future upgrades from the HTC site but my experience tells me that when ever i`ve had an O2 branded HTC device the HTC website won`t allow downloads from there site when you have to enter your serial number. You have to wait for O2 to release there own version of the update which NEVER happens....
Hence why i ended up at this brilliant site.
thanks guys, im going to follow the goldcard method,
will there be such another method without goldcard in the near future? im not even sure what goldcard is to be honest
will debranding to 1.48 unlock the phone as well?? or not ??
i have submitted the unlock phone request form on o2's website but am just wondering if the new rom will unlock the phone?

Thanks Richie, that's a very comprehensive answer!
Hey, I've got an O2 branded phone which was unlocked using the unlocking website (€22 it cost). Using a 3 UK sim and I'm wanting to get rid of O2's branding.
I've downloaded "RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.48.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship.exe"
My question is will this ROM remove the branding and do I need to use the goldcard with this or is this a shipped rom (that I can just update using the exe)?
Many thanks,
Ross.

Okay cool, card prepared and rom loaded on.
Is this the best rom to use at this moment? Just waiting for the battery to charge > 80%
Branding is cosmetic, I can live with that. Network locking prevents the use of another network's SIM cards and is the real problem. I recently bought an O2 branded HD2 on ebay, and I am not an O2 subscriber. Whilst I have read on other threads that O2 now offer unlock codes for free, it seems unlikely that they will do this for a non-subscriber. So I have been trying the commercial unlockers, of which there are many. Of the four tried so far, all have been unable to calculate an unlock code for my EMEI no. To be fair, three of them immediately refunded what I had paid them. So now I am stuck with O2. I would like to understand this situation better. Is my phone just too new, in which case I just need to be patient? Is it something worse? Any comment would be welcome.
BTW reflashing to a stock or cooked ROM does NOT remove network locking.

A Question about HTC HD2 software update..

Hello..
I have HTC HD2 from T-Mobile and recently I was searching here and there for software updates and I found one on T-Mobile..
The problem is I'm from Bahrain and I bought the mobile through ebay and of course it was unlocked when I received it..
My question is: Can I use this software update with my Unlocked T-Mobile HD2 or not ? Is there any problem will occur to my mobile? if I update the software like the software will lock the mobile ? Thanks in advance..
it will be fine, and no, it will not re lock the phone.

So there will be no problems in flashing the device !
Then what the use of (HSPL) ?
I read that HSPL have to be installed before flashing HD2 ! What the use of HSPL ?
I got it now !
After searching here and there about HSPL I found what is used for !
Basically it is used to flash custom Roms to HD2 !
Moved as not ROM Development.
