Hi,
Concers have been risen over the past few days over the speed of Xperia and Xperia panels. Some users of the mobile have been heard saying that though the device is overall really fast, but there is definitely a tad bit lag at times.
After having talked to a cousin in England in detail about it, he says that it is faster than he would have expected a Windows Mobile device to be. He also mentions that the panels interface is a bit slow at times but mostly when opening/switching to the Sony Ericsson Panel, which takes a second or two at times to refresh the panel icons and stuff - this when loading the panel as well as when switching from landscape to portrait or the other way around. Other panels, according to him, are really fast.
I would like to request the owners of Xperia to post their opinions on the speed of Xperia in this thread.
And for those of us who have yet to see the device in their hands, here is a video to get you excited.

This guy goes through the Spb Panel and then shows another panel as well as panel switching and customization. The Spb Panel is awesome and super fast! The main Windows Panel is also fast. And switching from portrait to landscape and the other way around is perfect. He did however skip the Sony Ericsson Panel...

This is another video i found. Though he records it against a mirror - so turned image - but still a cool one. Notice that the Sony Ericsson Panel takes very little time to refresh - although he didn't have much icons/shortcuts on that panel. Also note that the media Panel takes like 2 or less seconds to load up, but speed of the panel is fast. Other than that, things are looking awesome.
Enjoy!
Best Regards.

Thank you salman.
GREAT! That's as fast or faster as any other touch phone! I don't have to read any more comments about Xperia Speed.
.
BUT I noticed SOMETHING VERY WEIRD with these two videos.
In the first video the when the keyboard opens the buttons are on the right side of the screen. That's the way it always been and that's fine for my fingers.
The second video when the keyboard is open the buttons are ON THE LEFT of the screen??!!. I wouldn't be able to use the buttons and pad with my left fingers!
EDIT
WOOPS!!! I didn't read your post carefully. It's a mirrow !.
The SPB panel definitely looks like the way to use this phone (barring using Manilla or the full SPB Shell or similar). I'll either be using the full SPB Mobile Shell, or Manilla, but looking at those vids (I saw them yesterday) there is a chance I'll be using the panel version of SPB.
My experience with my phone is that it's very fast, much faster than I expected.
Moving around in menus, changing settings and even opening/closing most programs is instant.
Switching between panels is the only thing that take a little time, but ~2 seconds to load a complete panel is still faster than I expected. Once the new panel is loaded the phone is really fast again. Switching between landscape/portrait layout is also more or less instant.
I mainly use the SPB panel now, it's great! Quick access to everything, touch friendly, good looking and fast.
As for the other panels I have used the media panel a few times, it's a really nice interface for movies, pictures, etc. The radio panel.. not much to say about it, it does what it should. The fish tank is fun, especially since the fishes actually have real uses
The original windows today screen and the SE panels.. I used them the first days but I only use SPB for standard use now.
X1 is also fast enough to watch full sized XviD movies without any problems.
The battery capacity is quite good too. If I have everything activated like Wifi, bluetooth, active sync push, make a lot of calls, surf the web, listen to radio and watch a movie I will have to charge it once a day but it will last the whole day.
With a bit more ordinary use it lasts 2-3 days.

It does, doesn't it. And seeing how quick and powerful the Spb Panel is, we'll hopefully be seeing more useful and powerful panels in the near future for the device.

Thank you for that detailed post. It is as i thought - that the panels can take a second or two depending on the type of panel and all, and then the device's speed will be as fast as before. Looking at the Spb panel, i can imagine that more panels will surface soon that take much less time to laod up, in fact instant.
I was also wondering about Xvid movies - because i am a serious Series addict, and it would be nice to watch videos on Xperia. And also thanks for mentioning about the battery. People will complain that a day is not enough, but with heavy usage, how much more do you expect? I have heard - and not doing a comparison here - that Xperia's battery is better than the Touch Pro's in performance?
Best regards.

Yeah, the Touch Pro have a 1340 mAh Li-Ion battery while the X1 have a 1500 mAh Li-Po. I don't know how Li-Po compares to Li-Ion but X1's battery does have a higher capacity. X1 also have a higher standby time and talk time in the specifications.

I am also quite interested in how it plays normal xvid movies that one can get online.
Do they play smoothly on the X1 without having to reconvert them?

Read my post above, it's even in a separate paragraph.
"X1 is also fast enough to watch full sized XviD movies without any problems."
I haven't watched that many movies/series on it yet but the ones I tried worked perfectly. I just copied an XviD .avi file to the memory card and played it in CorePlayer, it starts right away, there is no lag in picture or sound and the quality is great. No need to convert or down scale it.
The original windows media player doesn't have XviD codec so I used CorePlayer, I bet there are other options out there as well.

hehehe : P I know that you mentioned it. But I just couldnt believe it!!! ))))
I was really looking forward to a device that can play xvid files without having to reconvert them.
Its good to hear that it works with coreplayer. I think the Touch Diamond wasnt powerfull enough to play normal xvid movies. Maybe its the RAM?
Eitherway thanks for letting us know ))!!!!
I can confirm its very fast, panels take a second or to to load depending on the plugins installed
I'm pretty sure if I get this device I probably won't even use different panels very much so panel switching speed isn't an issue for me!
Hi guys! I got a Touch HD and never has the oportunity to play with a Xperia. I want to know if it comes with a picture viewer replacing the microsoft default (like the "HTC ALBUM" in the Touch HD). If it have one can someone upload it to Rapidshare/megaupload please?
Yes it has one, but only as a panel. I don't know what all I would need to include to make it work.
Anyway .. how is it .. it's nice, responsive, nice controls. But .. X1 does not have accelerometer, so it won't react on turning the device. Also it has very weak zoom. It seems it does not load the picture in full resolution, it downscales it to WVGA, which is too detailed for eyes anyway. Then it allows you to zoom it like 3 times .. but there you already see the image blurred. You can't view images in 100% size.
Thanks Dr Sid. I will keep looking for another picture viewer that work as a normal aplication and not panel. And for the acelerometer part, there is an aplication that allow you to rotate screen with acelerometer on every program you want so you dont really need to be naturally supported by the aplication.
I currently use an old Nokia 6230i for phoning / texting, and a Dell Axim PDA for my diary / taking notes in meetings / etc. Both are on their last legs, so I fugured a smart phone would be the best thing to replace both. Logic dictates WM would be the better O/S (everything I do is Windows), but I found the HD2 too big to carry around all of the time (I leave the PDA in my work bag now). So I thought the HD Mini would be ideal. After weeks of waiting, I managed to get my hands on a demonstration model in a shop yesterday.
Whilst it looked great, and was nice and small for carrying around, I could not get the keyboard to work for me (and my fingers aren't that large). I had assumed that I would turn the devive to landscape when I wanted to type a lot, but it seems that it only does this in the web browser or for texting. Have I missed something? I'm trying to get the Office apps (eg OneNote) in landscape for faster typing whilst in meetings.
I also read that the screen - which looked great indoors - is very difficult to see outdoors?
Can somebody more familar with this device answer these questions for me please?
TIA, Kevin
Use AutoRotate 1.2 or BsB Tweak 1.6 to get Mobile Office apps to go to landscape mode via g-sensor. This will enable you to use landscape keyboard.
I've tried it in Mobile Excel. Works as expected.
I've recently downloaded a samsung cube cab for Omnia Pro and I like the cube, but I have some problems.
1) The internet side of the cube won't do anything. Can I root it to Opera 10?
2) The photo side displays all photos, including /Program Files/ and /Temp/. How can I filter the results like Photo Album.
3) The games side displays all apps, can it only display the ones I want?

yes man, the cube will always be very slow i don't know if anyone here can tweak it up ?
Well i like using opera 9.7 but it messes up sometimes. One thing being the tabs. If i have more than 5-6 open. the following tabs disable a blank page... I have to close out opera to get pages to display again. Another thing being when i tilt the device in internet explorer and opera, it doesn't stay tilted. It goes back automatically after 2 seconds. Very annoying! I'm also interested in how to open a link in a new tab in opera 9.7? that's something i really liked. I actually would also like to have the more standard type tab view like opera 10, where it's more like mozilla style tabs. Also regarding the wireless n tweak. When i enable that, and connect to my wireless n linksys e1000 router, It shows tx i believe at 0mbps. Why is this? When in normal g mode it displays 54mbps. Oh yeah and is there a cab out there that will allow for photo thumbnail view of folders etc in the file explorer? I also wanted to know if i could display all menu's on the phone in list mode. Not the touch slide style. I kind of want it to be a little more like Windows mobile 6.1. I'm also interested in some type of application that allows for more intricate power saving options. Like to allow the screen to turn off quicker while in battery and plugged in. I hate sometimes when i'm listening to music in coreplayer, it takes forever for the screen to turn off. I want a 5 seconds off like thing. If you can help me find an Advanced power options/ management program that would be great! the weirdest and most annoying thing about that is, in windows mobile 6.1 there were tons of options in the power settings menu on my black jack 2 that would allow it to be much more efficient on the battery. I believe there is one more thing i'm concerned about with the os. I was wondering if there are new releases of the htc video player and windows media player have color/ brigtness controls builtin?
If there's anything you guy's can offer or throw at me in terms of a suggested app or something, please let me know! I've been collecting these thoughts regarding the phone for a long time. It's not until now that i have decided to unload all the information in hope for some solutions!
thanks
I forgot to mention info about my flash issues! in internet explorer flash is o-k. In opera 9-7 most of the time it just jinks out and doesn't really work at all. Can't i get flash to work perfectly? Like be able to watch youtube and maximize to full screen and tilt the device to have it fill the screen? Is that possible?
thanks
