Here's one stupid question.
Altrough the camera seems to be ok in terms of hardware drivers i can't seem to find any utility to start it neither in control pannel or anywhere else. I cannot use it in yahoo messenger or similar services. Can someone enlight me about that camera?
camera does work , but only in MSN messenger
I played with the camera too...
The only program that recognizes the camera, and uses it OK , is MSN (live) messenger.
X-Lite (Voip Software with camera option) usually detects any camera I got.
However, on the Shift, no joy !
Also, another program called WinTLV (Superb windows time lapse recording software)
does not see the camera.
Drivers...drivers...drivers.... c'mon HTC .. supply us with new ones
Py Software Active Webcam
killer_t, what are you trying to tell us?

The camera i test it with many programs and is working in skype msn and other programs automatically but i dont know how to start it alone i mean not through other programs

With the program Active Webcam from Py Software can use the build-in Shift camera.. You can do video and photo
yep the Active Web Cam program works. I've tested it yesterday without any problems. However the program can't facilitate the usage of the camera with other programs.
I want to run the camera alone to take photo, do you guys know any good software out there with good and clean interface which does this job?
I use Dorgem v2.1.0 it's a small and freeware software.

it doesn't seems to have a preview windows, does anyone else know anything better then this?
It has. Click on the preview button
Nice little camera app. Thanks.
Yu can use this one too

I had the same problem of the camera showing as installed but not recognised by MSN, Skype, etc. So I just deleted the driver (from Device manager). Windows then rediscovered it and then it worked fine!
I have been using "cheese" on ubuntu. it has preview and can be used to capture video or still pictures.

This one is more than capable. The one posted earlier on page 1 (can't remember what it's called) has been discontinued.
But the one quoted above is perfect just for using the camera for point and shoot, video or stills.
Thanks.
Edit>>Struggles a bit with video (low frame rate, a bit like video calling quality, or like video phone you see on the news!) but I haven't really had a good luck around the settings yet too see if it can be manually improved.
I have installed the Debut Video Capture Software on my Shift, but when I run it it defaults to 'screen' which replicates my screen image but when I click 'Device' the selection remains at screen. I can't see any options to enable my camera device.
Anyone know what to do next?
(The dorgem one worked fine so my Shift hardware is not in question.)
Camera software
I tried a program called "AMCap" that I had. (You will have to Google for it, I can't remember where I got my).
It seems to catch the video & audio and lets me take stills and such.
I saw some i780 images with RealVGA and I just have to admit it was the best square screen I have even seen for a PPC. This seems precisely what I want for my screen. Could someone please explain what exactly is it, and how it works? and if all softwares are automatically compatible with it, or would I have to sacrifice my software collection in order to use it???
BTW, what screen resolutions does it work with and would my Treo 750 support it??
I always thought you needed a VGA screen to use realVGA or anything like that, so i don't think it would be possible on a treo. Then again i'm not entirely sure so i would wait for someone else to confirm.
RealVGA, essentially, makes everything smaller.
The point of this is to take advantage of a high resolution screen (since WM doesn't). In your case, it will probably make windows unusable as the 240x240 resolution would end up making text so small that it's illegible.
It's mainly meant for 640x480 screens although 480x480 as well as 320x320 screens appear to be usable.
RealVGA, or TrueVGA as I like to call it, basically disables pixel-doubling that WM uses to make all programs work well. This can really only be used on devices that have more pixels than 320x240. So a VGA screen of 640x480 will show 4x the about of data in TrueVGA mode as it would in normal mode.
The downside is that not all programs will work properly. This is a developer issue, and it is best to contact them to resolve this problem. I would suggest putting your device into TrueVGA mode and trying out the programs that you use, and see if you are happy with the results.
I have put a package together in the link below that you can use for testing purposes, and see if it is something you like or not.
Personally I only every use my device in TrueVGA mode as I hate the lost space as a result of the large icons on my x51v. But it will come down to personal preference and you are best to try and see for yourself.
Cheers
Mark

RealVGA actually changes your dpi. The stock i780 is using 128dpi which is something not common. Most devices are using 96 dpi. I believe RealVGA was written is to maximize the available screen. Of course with 96 dpi, the letters are also smaller, and it might pose some difficulty in readin texts on the screen.
However, others are still using RealVGa mainly one can maximize the screen. Also, the display though small, makes it look more sharp.
As to the programs, I'm not sure what you have. For myself, I am using PocketCM (modded to fit in the i780), Audio Manager and the Diamond WM Player Skin (modded to fit in the i780). I also installed the HTC Today plugin.
I also had modded SPB Mobile Shell 2.1 (I've since uninstalled it), I have SBSH Weather (using slikkie's sbsh weather skin). Quite a few software can run under RealVGA, it depends on what you have actually.
Hope this helps.

Search for the nadavi 3g dialer for i780. Install and you will be able to make video calls.
I am very concerned about the ability to use basic applications on the Xperia's WVGA screen. I love the screen for DVD watching, but will it prevent me from using my favorite applications?
Can someone tell me if these will work:
Slingbox
Log Me In
Skyfire (when available)
Garmin Mobile XT
I know for the Toshiba G900 there is a program called WVGAfix or something that allows you to convert your screen to 640x480, I think.
Any insight into this problem would be helpful!
Thanks
Rick
If you hook me up with some links where i can download the apps, i can try 'em.. got a X1 infront of me..
Can do the same as well if you want. Currently using Opera and it works great. Wish you could use the pad to scroll around like a mouse though.. too bad.
Where are you guys getting your xperia's from, I'd love to get hold of one albeit pre-production.
Thanks
I am sorry, I don't have that software yet. I was going to wait until I got the Xperia.
In any event, can somebody make a program which you run on Xperia that can make all those VGA specific programs work? LIke there wvgafix for Toshiba G900?
EDIT: wrong thread!
Yeah, where do you guys get your X1s from!.

They might be tricking you - maybe they are like the rest of us - we don't have one yet!
Garmin Mobile XT is working without any problems on X1.
I don't think there will be much problems except navigation software.
I have a Toshiba G900 sind a good year with just this 480x800 and all standard software runs fine. AgendaFusion, TCPMP, TotalCommander, WisbarAdvancedDesktop (most important to me), the SBSH-collection, not to forget the great Softmaker Office which is very usefull with the screen -only navigation software is a problem that sometimes work, sometimes not.
Anyone tried Iguidance 4 with this resolution?
bump, we need to update this thread!
Btw, can someone tell me what are the differences between SPB Mobile Shell and SPB Pocket Plus?
is there any differences between SPB MS panel and the original SPB MS app?
Garmin Mobile XT is working just fine on X1, without any problems.
is advanced configuration 3.3 working for X1?
Yeah, advanced configuration 3.3 is working fine on my X1.
New version of Kinoma play is out and it is compatible with X1.

- Slingbox works OK. The video stream doesn't fill the whole screen (even with the aspect ratio set to 'wide'), and the interface buttons are kinda displayed correctly, but seemed to be actually shifted to the left, as when you press the power button for example, it's in reality a few buttons down. It's kinda hard to explain, but it seems like it's not being displayed at the right resolution, even tho all the images files, seem to be made for VGA (at least they're labeled that way).
- LogMeIn looks beautiful on this screen. And there's A LOT less screen scrolling compared to a QVGA screen, obviously. But compared to my old Tilt, it's a pleasure using LMI on this phone.
- Skyfire doesn't work yet, but you probably already knew that. It immediately crashes or closes down as soon as you try to load it. Hopefully, they'll add W/VGA support, because sites also look amazing on Opera.
- I don't use Garmin, but TomTom 7 looks and performs great. It looks as sharp as it should. Don't know if it's really scaling to the full resolution, but it sure looks like it.
Could you Please Post Pictures Of What The SlingPlayer Mobile Client Looks Like

That was my main concern, how the SlingBox would work with the Xperia X1, so that's good news. If possible could you please post a few pictures of how the SlingPlayer mobile client looks on the Xperia X1, thanks in advance....!

very true matey ... it would be awesome if someone can port the apps to htc touch hd ....
How about the skinned file manager, and midomi?
im having an issue finding the ROM bbut there are people over here who already have the omnia 2 would someone post instructions on how to dump the installed rom so they upload it for us.
there is a lot of thing to like about their customized software
I would love to see some of these application on my Touch Diamond. The skinned file manager, and Touch player especially!
I would probably kill for the task manager...thats what I've been craving for months now. Also the SMS and Email app is a must have. Don't want the phone..just the software
The resolution is different, so it's very hard to port these apps to Omnia I
I've watched PocketNow's Youtube i8000 software tour and it is simply incredible. I've heard quite a bit of negative things about the Omnia II i8000, but the software tour provided by PocketNow really made it shine.
The interface was very fast (in some cases, as fast as the custom ROMs available on XDA) and the available software was simply unreal. The video editor and cube were particularly nice, but I believe Samsung also got the first Windows Mobile version of Midomi ever making it that much better.
I can't wait for the QWERTY Samsung B7610 to finally come out.
i found this thread. the omnia II rom dump is uploaded in mediafire here
hope this is enough for people over here to start
some apps are already extracted here http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=7f364dce2089ae8a4c17ca8801618ef78fe1cb5b49933873b8eada0a1ae8665a

Sfondi Omnia II - WQVGA.rar
Smartmemo.rar
TCalendar.rar
Tclock.rar
some other cool ones are not extracted yet
on my xperia win 6.5
Phonebook.rar --didnt really work
Powercalc.rar -- worked fine
Smartmemo.rar --didnt work
TCalendar.rar -- worked
Tclock.rar -- didnt work
will test again later when i flash to a 6.1 rom
Omnia 1900 test results:
Phonebook.rar -- Loads but app is in VGA.
Powercalc.rar -- Loads but app is in VGA.
Smartmemo.rar --Didnt Not Load, No errors message, just a [Ping] sound.
TCalendar.rar -- Loads but app is in VGA.
Tclock.rar -- Loads but app is in VGA.
Looks real nice though, if only they worked in wqvga.
i added a picture of my xperia in the first post
also a cool guy posted a nice story about all this in pocketnow. i hope now we get enough attention from the devs here to port the rest
http://pocketnow.com/news-archive/samsung-omnia-ii-apps-being-extracted-for-other-devices below is part of the story
Samsung Omnia II Apps Being Extracted for Other Devices

.
There should be more developments once they dump the ROM and more people get involved, which is the main focus of the thread. Visit the MoDaCo thread and keep an eye on the dedicated Omnia II extraction thread at XDA for any progress and to test the apps.
How many of you are waiting for a functioning Midomi app to be ported? I know I am. Hopefully patience pays off.

Has anyone tried these on the Diamond?
Update: Tried TCalendar and Phonebook. TCalendar seems to work at first glance looks really nice, however, I cannot add any appointments or anything and the menu softkey makes the screen go crazy. Phonebook just gives me a a black screen with only the keyboard button in the down right corner.
Need Midomi..
Downloaded and tried Tcalender. ..
It worked as u can see in the pic, but it fails to creat new appointment or to access the menu soft key ??? apart from the first home screen nothing else is working.
Edit: I have Xperia X1i, Official R3AA UK ROM
Tested the TCalendar on the HTC Touch Diamond 2 (Topaz) with the Custom ROM Topaz Essentials
Viewing of the Calendar works fine (although quite slow) - but opening the menu or adding a new entry does not work
Oh.Can't dl from mediafire
who can upload to rapidshare for a mirror?
Only need the Part02 Disk1 dump files(part1.rar part2.rar part3.rar)
thanks very much!!!
I just want to search into the dump folder for any other files needed to load the apps!
Just a quick update from a Touch HD running pkoper's EPS HDX WM6.1 ROM:
- TCalendar: starts, shows appointments (in all views), looking good. Navigating to dates works. Menus, however, don't work properly. And it's all in Hungarian.
- TClock: doesn't start ("components not found").
N.
i think these compressed executables are missing other supporting files thats why they are refusing to run. a proper cab of each of the omnia application need to be created. lets keep an eye on the modaco thread for now

Hi There!
Is pinch to zoom functionality available on this phone at all? Even via 3rd party roms etc?
i saw a little novelty app somewhere where it was kinda working. but no one has it in a rom or anything for everyday use.
I think this is something you can only fudge on a diamond 2 as the screen is not capacitive like the iPhone
Yeah, the hardware and even the underlying OS doesn't support multiple touches on the screen. There may well be efforts to fake it, but I can't imagine they work very well.
That said, I've always though pinch zoom was more effort to use than a zoom bar or doubleclick anyway.
now the Zoom bar itself is capacitive...go figure
