Flash on the X10? - XPERIA X10 General

Simple question - Is there any way to get Flash Player or Flash Lite working on the X10 with any Android browser?

use the search feature.. there's various posts already on this.

I thought there might be but i cant find them.
Because searching for "flash" comes up with flashing the device, camera flash and all kinds of other things.
So any help would be appreciated.
EDIT, dont worry i found the asnwer. No Flash on X10. Only issue i have with this phone.

fairy nuff!!.. short answer is no.. and I'm no expert, but I understand that it's not possible on And 1.6.. but maybe on 2.1 (possibly!).. or.. you can use a browser which renders flash at the server and then passes it to you in a format the handset can make sense of.. the only browser i'm aware of that can do this at the moment is skyfire.. and that's a beta test app so isn't quite there yet.. but suspect it won't be long.

skyfire browser has a kind of work around. it grabs flash videos and converts them on the fly.
i don't know if it's any good yet as i only downloaded it yesterday, but it might be what you're after

I've already tried skyfire, it didn't work lol. Well it might for videos, didn't try for them, because i'm more interested in Flash sites and games (which is what i make).

Flash/Silverlight News for Android

Hey all - one of the things I'd like to see the Android Browser pick up is Flash mobile or Silverlight... Thought I'd make this thread to keep up with news. Last I heard, Silverlight was going to make it possible, but Google was trying to keep Adobe out of it.
Would be awesome to have some Flash Apps and a browser that could run it or something similar!
Anyone else feel the same?
Two of my favorite sites, zillow.com and redfin.com dont work on G1 because of flash.
That would be nice,I was wondering myself if when u visit a website that says u need adobe falsh player, get it here has anyone tried to download it from the website link or you can't?

It just sends you to the standard download place for linux. Doesn't have any in the android format. We'll just have to wait. Luckily, I don't think there's anything stopping adobe from making a flash plugin for the android browser since any1 can make any plugin for anything on android.

It took Adobe 8 years to make the first flash player? I dont think we still have a real flash player for the WM6. Skyfire just blasted through and pretty much suppots everything under the moon on WM6. I wish Skyfire would port on Andriod on day.
Its really stupid that Youtube.com and Google Video websites dont open up on Android, they are both owned by Google!

Both YouTube and Google video are supported out of the box on the G1.
OK, so they open outside of the browser, but it's no more effort than it would be otherwise.

Ok so YouTube I understand opens in a special software and not inside the familiar browser. How do you open Google Videos?
And there is a big difference between supporting an industry accepted format (flash) and "supporting" flash based YouTube in a special app. There are hundreds of sites we cant access without Flash. What about Hulu and all other good stuff on the web?
Silverlight support on the G1 would be a wonderful thing because THIS and ONLY THIS will encourage Adobe to EVER support flash on the G1.
Don't believe me?
There has never been simultaneous releases of Adobe Flash Player for *nix and windoze but then Microsoft announces Silverlight support for Linux. The result is Adobe Flash Player 10 for both Windows and Linux released at the same time.
Someone just needs to make up some false story about Silverlight working on Android and get enough people to go along with it until Adobe catches wind of it. Then we'll see flash support, but until Adobe has a reason to support Flash on Android we are never going to see it.

Google video works- if it happens to be a Youtube link. There are some 3gp sites like Tinytube that work, but the video buffer underrun is so bad the stream of frames bleeds into each other.
Flash on Android is probably having the same issues as Coreplayer trying to create codecs for Android. The "Java" layer and GSsteamers have to be gone through and this is causing heavy cpu overhead and causing the need to create more complex codecs. The video apps on the g1 market now are simply interfaces for the built in function of the Android OS- no codecs.
I agree that Flash would rock on the G1, but some sites would still be problematic if flash as not an imbedded function of the browser. Videos links would work, but files imbedded into the pages or scripts may not work well- if at all.
We might have to wait until Google goes with Flash and upgrades the OS.
Flash Player on the way...

Sounds like overselling before release to me. I recall there was a handset announced recently that stated support for Word and Excel, I think we all know that doesn't exist yet.
i remember back in december watching a video of flash fully working on a G1 and it's still not been released.
suppose it was buggy as hell or too good/not good enough for the phone, **** knows.

[Q] New to Android and Confused about few things

Hello everyone,
I'm chiaotzu and I'm from India. I bought HTC Wildfire a week ago and still learning the things. I must say I'm impressed with everything in it, but I still think I'm missing few points so I'd appreciate if someone can focus on few things. Here are few questions:
1. My Android Version is 2.2.1, does this means I have froyo?
2. I haven't upgraded anything, I've got above version when I bough the phone, so will I able to root the phone? (Sorry no idea why I wanna do that, just coming from iPod Touch, I presume it's something similar to Jailbreak)
3. If I'll be able to root, what is the procedure and are there any risks involved?
4. People are talking about CM7, Openfire and other stuff, what are they? Are they custom firmwares like sn0wbreeze for iPhone?
5. Will I be able to overclock my HTC Wildfire? If yes, How?
6. Is there any software which will make "Google Maps" to cache the data with the specified diameter and level, I'm not looking for any third party software. Because most of them are not easy to use or not working properly. If there is any software which can download maps for offline use and still able to locate me using GPS without internet connection, kindly mention it, I'll give it a go.
7. While using handsfree, when I get call from someone or SMS, is there any software which will read out the name of the calling person if from contacts list, if not, just read out the number and contents of the message if its a text message.
8. Any book reading software which can read ePub format and has the same interface as iBooks with support for Audio books and PDF books?
9. Any alternatives for Awesome note?
10. Best dictionary out there? It was wordbook for iOS?
11. What application should I use to get the best combination of size and quality. I convert my DVD movies using MeGUI using x264 and Nero AAC with MKV Container using 535 Bitrate for Video and 32 for Audio. But I think MKV won't go well with Android, so kindly let me know any application, free or paid? Also kindly share with me your best settings of bitrate that you think are sufficient or okay to have.
I must say, I'm impressed with HTC Sense giving us the full control over the screens, its like desktops of Linux, all 7 of them, but more awesome. I have no words to express my joy and screen resolutions isn't bad at all as many people say, which is a good thing because it saves battery I suppose.
Also for people who have installed Winamp, kindly remove it because it makes handfree button obsolete which starts winamp music instead of receiving calls.
Thanks and looking forward to answers.
PS: xda-developers, I thought it's a community for developers with hardcore programming, but thank god we have general section here.
1. Yes, you have froyo
2. Sorry, but you can't root your phone yet, the Froyo version of WIldfire has something different, just wait/
3. You'll lost warranty, and guest what, anything can happen.
4. Yeah, they are popular custom ROM for Wildfire
5. You can, flash OC kernel or custom ROM and install setCPU
6. Lastest Google Maps can cache for offline use afaik, or you can use many other app in the market
7,8,9,10: I don't have answer now

1. Thanks for confirming.
2. Oh, guess I'll have to wait then. Fair enough, I'll just get myself familiar with Android stuff before jumping into something like that.
3. Ohh, but I want to know if something wrong happens at the time of rooting or flashing the Wildfire with new custom ROM (Firmware or Modified OS?), will I able to switch back to whatever I had previously? If my phone crashed at the time of rooting or flashing, will I able to install the original 2.2.1 OS from somewhere somehow?
4. What is ROM? I presume its a modified version of Software or Firmware or OS of Android. Am I correct?
5. What do you mean by flash? Does flash means just erasing previous data from chip and installing new ROM? Or just changing few files in the OS to suit our requirements?
6. Google maps can cache the maps that we view or get directions for. I want to cache the whole city map so I'll get home safely if I'm lost or will be able to find some address easily.
Thanks a lot for answering the questions and yes, I have one more question.
What application should I use to get the best combination of size and quality. Thanks a lot, I know I type a lot, but I'm excited a lot about my Wildfire.
i'm kind of new too, so for the application question, I'll leave it to other people.
The flash process (install OS or install patch...) is pretty safe now, and you can get original ROM to go back to the original Froyo, but I pretty sure you'll not have to do this.
The ROM = the kernel, OS and the core system app, flash a new ROM means you install a new OS into your phone (similar to firmware on iPhone ? I don't have iPhone)
The whole flashing process is automatic for the end user like us, when rooting, you will have a new recovery call clockworkmod, in this you just have to choose the zip file of the ROM you want.
The newest version of Google Maps cache your data for offline use, and there's ton of app in the market that has offline access and navigation too, so you don't have to worry

Thanks a lot mate for the explanation, really appreciate it. Your elaborated explanation cleared out so many things and feeling secure now about the whole process.
I'd appreciate if someone answers rest of the questions.
If you root and install a custom rom you lose the warranty, but if you can still flash a RUU ROM (aka original rom) from http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Buzz/ you have an 90 % chance of the service guys not knowing that you have modified your phone.
6. Mapdroyd has some good offline maps and it`s very simmilar to Gmaps, I highly encourage you to test it, just dowload the country you are interested it and you`re done.
8. For PDF files I recommend Repligo Reader, brilliant piece of kit. For Epub I`ve heard of FBReaderJ, but I don`t really know if it work on QVGA, you`ll need to test it out.
1. Yes.
2. No. Froyo has a new HBOOT (eqt. of bootrom on an ipod touch) which is not rootable currently.
4. Custom ROMS, since android is open source, its very easy to customize. so different "flavors" exist. sorta like distros on linux. Although, you cant get these either thanks to not having root.
5. Since you can't root, no.
6. No. I've tried a lot.
7. i dont know, maybe.
8. Laputa book reader, and Aldiko book reader
9. i dunno wat that is, sorry. If its a note taking app, then theres color note, springpad, etc.
10. ColorDict. Dictionaries are plugins, has pronunciation, thesaurus, etc. get it.
11. mp4 works fine, but movies arent really good or enjoyable on our crappy screen Make sure the resolution is QVGA (320x240) not sure abt bitrate settings, sorry
Thanks a lot guys for the answers, definitely cleared some doubts.
I upgraded to Android 2.2 on my Wildfire and now I feel like a Jack Ass !
This topic cleared many of my doubts as well.....Since I am also new to Android !
Thanks for the help !

[Q] On The Downloading Of .swf and .flv Files

I have recently bought a Samsung Vibrant (T959) and being new to the Android universe I have been doing quite a bit of head scratching. Before you jump to the conclusion that I am one of those that just refuses to do research when faced with a problem (and resort to spamming help forums with threads like: “how do I make a call?” or “I know my phone is ON but why is my screen BLACK!?!?!?!?!?”) or that I am simply a dumbass, let me say that I since flashed to Trigger ROM 3.2 on the suggestion of (and with help from) the all around awesome fellow s15274n, and am learning more about the Android system every day. I believe that most of you will be familiar with the saying, "you can't go swimming without getting wet," (or similar paraphrasing), but it seems to me that in the realm of Android moding the saying goes a bit different, "you can't get wet without jumping in the deep end."
Now that I have "jumped in the deep end" at the nudging of s15274n I have a much better understanding of flashing, ClockworkMod Recovery, ROM Manager and more, however in the case of downloading flv and swf file I have run into so many dead ends that I am starting to wonder if I really am just a dumbass. I have searched Google and xda without much success, some people mention Download Crutch (the last posts on this were dated late 2008) and some replied that the abilities of the aforementioned program are available in Linda and Astro, but after downloading I can't figure out how to make them actually "download" anything. I know there is a way to download stuff from YouTube, but I don't really surf YouTube that much. On my PC I use Orbit Downloader for ALL my downloading needs (if you don't have it, GET IT!), but I can't find something similar for Android.
Before I close I’ll fill you in on my situation. I have a Samsung Vibrant (3G). I am running Trigger 3.2 and have Flash 10.3 and a number of Flash “Players.” I am on the $30 a month T-Mobile plan which only gives me only 30MB per month, I can get a “unlimited day pass” for $1.50, but after the first 30MB the data rate slow so that video streaming is impractical to say the least. I would like to be able to download a movie or tv show (or mayhap something even less PG…or even R) using wifi to view later.
I suspect that there is a way to do so and that I am just missing something very fundamental as there are almost no recent threads on this and some people seem to imply that they are doing it, they just don’t say how.
I know that this is probably just a wee bit long for such a noobishly simple question, but hours of frustration have left me with some issues to work out. While I am on the subject, has anyone been able to watch megavideo without being redirected to that STUPID F%^&ING game website?
In closing, I find Flash withdrawal to be quite drag and I would be eternally grateful help getting my fix.
Robert
P.S. I think I may have posted this in the wrong forum, oops...

new to tablets but i bought this one so..

I have a couple of quick questions. Firgive if already asked.
Why are the markets so different? Many of the appa I use on my phone are not there. For instamce I can't find words with friends. I did some google searching but could not fine the apk.. any help with that, I would be thankful.
I like the tablet just lots to get use to.
If I wanted to read about rooting this device what's the best site? Instructions. The only reason I would want to root is to get the real market ..
Sometimes it is because the apps aren't compatible. Other times the reason is hard to figure, because they work fine as they are.
One thing that you might try is to grab the app (.apk) from your phone and move it using something like a Dropbox app, or a simple file transfer through your pc would work too.
first things first. I need to find the apk. Do you happen to know where i might find it? There must be a repo of some sort somewhere?
I relly like the device tho. Seems a little disorganized ... maybe thats true of android as a whlole. Not Android s fault but manufacturers not sticking to the spec?
Anyway. Thanks for the help
if your phone rooted, u can install the app and grab pk from /data/app
could think of a few ways
Most devs have a web page for their product out there somewhere - a lot of them will offer the .apk for you to download there. You can also try browsing the android market via web browser or trying one of the many external markets available (Appbrain/Amazon are great!)
Hope that helps.
Hmm... I have words with friends, and it coordinates with my account on my Droid, up to date... I have no advice, but wanted to say it works great.. was on the market for the tablet for Me... still is I just checked.
I find the web version of android market to be wayyyy better than the app...

Stuck with 5.2 update "option" instead of latest OTA upgrade.

I am using a Shield TV Pro (2015) never rooted and I have stayed on 5.0.2 for all this time waiting for a stable update (6.3 sounds really stable compared to older OTAs) but now as soon as I heard about that OTA version's release,it started showing a different OTA upgrade than it should which is...version 5.2! :crying:
Please, how do I fix this ridiculous problem?
I know that this is the notorious OTA upgrade version that fails to download and fails on updating so I would probably end up bricked if I try to update to it in order to reach 6.x versions.
I am sick of being, for one, unable to use adobe flash player because it broke on 5.0.2 but I also want-ed to take the risk to get 6.3 since it wasn't getting huge amounts of major issues mentioned like every previous upgrade.
If it was at least 6.x then it wouldn't be so awful, but its that accursed 5.2 "upgrade" instead.
I seek help here because my Nvidia forum account has been compromised by bad username syndrome since they did that fused account crap and the stupid user rename function isn't openly allowed.

I read on the Geforce forums about sending a message in order to be added to the server for a full 6.3 update but I feel like that might not even work for bypassing the 5.2 version.
My main fear of it is also that it has been sitting on their server for a long time and by chance it could be messy due to the age of the upgrade files.
I also don't know if I have to wait for stability of the SSHD to optimize before updating to the next version afterward but I would probably do that just for safety.

Don't think the age of the file matters. I also read the forums and fewer than more have had problems with a OTA update, matter fact in my opinion the majority that do have a problem are not telling the full story.
I went ahead and double updated and am now on 6.3 with it performing decently from the start.
The thing that pisses me off though is that any form of swf player or adobe flash is still crashing!
Why is this happening on my stuff when others on builds 5.0.2 or newer claimed it was working for them?!?
Puffin's method is awful because quality is garbage and frame-rates are choppy even on lightweight stuff, and plus the controls don't work right and you can't access local swf files with it.
The other stuff used to work before the 5.0.2 upgrade.
I wish someone would hack the latest flash player version and get it ported to Android to be a hero to fans of ancient interwebz stuff.
Otherwise, where the hell is the ACTUAL replacement for adobe flash that allows full access to playing any SWF file in parity to how Adobe Flash does it?
And no,Adobe AIR is useless because they were jerks by making it only able to run stuff with actionscript 3.0 which leaves out a F-ton of old stuff that one wants to toy around with and even tons of new stuff that still uses the 2.0 actionscript.
I might have to drag out my old FireTV to see if it still works and use it primarily for a working SWF player device.
The main problem is that I can't just use my laptop to access swf content for prideful reasons and for risk of any recent ad attacks that aren't prevented in any filters at any given time.
Although,I guess I could set up a strong (but slower) VM to access all the SWF stuff in the (partial) safety of a computation layer in hopes I don't immediately get Spectre-d or Melt-ed anyway.

Also Nvidia recommends all with pro version let it sit for about 30 min to settle in after flashing, because of the hard drive. I saw that on the forum when people were complaining that they flashed and the shield was slow or stuttering.......You do know that more and more sites, companies, etc are phasing adobe flash player out and not using at all. Also here is some information for you to look at if you have not already....http://www.aiseesoft.com/resource/adobe-flash-player.html
Sorry to be rude but I don't give a **** about those facts,I just want mah swf players to work.
The whole point originally is that I wanted a device I could hope on to use for swf content while my other devices are safe from it since I never use flash on my laptop.
Do you know of a way to reset a Shield TV without deleting storage files at all?
I may just bypass that by storing everything I can, getting systemless root, storing the rest of it (browser cookies to retain logins) then do a clean slate and root again to restore all of my browser cookies to restore the logins.
I F * * * ING hate restrictions set by root access requirements! No easy way to export all cookies and import them back because the god-damned storage location of it all being in a root-access-only protected/locked directory.
Unless I am missing the idea of such a feature on all Android web browsers.
Yes,I am that guy who uses side-loaded web browsers on my SATV via a wireless keyboard.
Even a temporary root access would be grand,if only that kind was still feasible but with no chances of automatic damage.

only way I am aware of is being rooted and flashing the developer image, as resetting will delete the data
The thing is,that build for 6.3 is really bugged out and allegedly corrupted from the talk on the Geforce forums.
Its missing some files for Vendor which I think is greatly important.
Also, you edited when I was amidst the not caring about facts,I was only talking about the facts of them killing adobe flash.
I read in the settings about the account sync function but don't know if it also stores everything for stuff like cookies and the logins for specific stuff like side-loaded browsers such as Opera for Android.

Which build? I have the Pro the 2015 and 2017 are the same purchased mine in 2017 have been bootloader unlocked and rooted since 5.02 every new ota I wait for the developer version and flash via flashfire and I have never had one problem unless I did something wrong. I will tell you this also I know personally of people that have contacted me trying to flash the ota via twrp, you cant its encrypted, I also know of people that thought they knew but tried flashing wrong in flashfire an last not least I know of one gentleman that said his developer image was corrupt, only to find out the problem was it was not acting right with the version of magisk he had installed
Wait,that was for the 16GB device/s.
I have Shield TV Pro (2015) so there only is a chance that it is fine.
The BIG problem is that it will take literally forever to wait for everything to be done due to the large SSHD for any kind of thing.
When I asked if Magisk worked a long while back,I was told that I should use the updated SuperSU instead of Magisk because it also had systemless root added to it and Magisk was known to have stability issues.

Yep like 3 hours but you only have to do it once
Took a bit to find the best place for SuperSU but I only just found out it was put in other hands which luckily they are keeping it alive rather than doing any awful things.
Though the latest version is from nearly a whole year ago by now from May 2017 which makes it an easy chance of something going wrong from any OTA released after that last supersu version since ya never know what might make things not work at all.
Hoping I can get root working, backup all of the app stuff, overhaul the thing then test if swf players work and if they do,I will just have to root again and recover everything to regain all of my apps and data, likely using Titanium Backup since that one seems really popular as the best option for rooted users.
I can always enable full updates then take the next entire OTA to get out of root if that works at all.
Hoping it can all be done using systemless root, otherwise it kills the point of that kind of root,at least for initially backing up everything first.
Recovering all of it via the nuke-everything-once-done action with unlocking bootloader would be okay so long as it ends up working fine if I can't do it all on systemless root.
I should be able to copy/paste browser data if I have to resort to that if systemless root allows folder read/write access in granted root priveliges.
To clarify, now I am on OTA 6.3 so this thread is now moot-point.
Its running perfectly fine at first glimpse, but I do have that stupid keyboard app missing/replaced by russian keyboard issue.
