Hi Everyone,
I have a Samsung Omnia smartphone.
It is quite a nice phone, with good internal memory and a very descent camera.
However it could benefit from being more user friendly. It is particularly difficult to write messages using this phone.
This is the case because more screen area is dedicated to previous "message conversation", and the soft keyboard than the current message.
In fact the more messages that I send to and from friends the harder it gets to write a new message!
Please see this link for a screen shot of my phone during messaging:
*** Damned forum won't let me upload the picture because I am a new member ***
I would like to change my phones settings so that previous message "history" does not get displayed. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a way to turn this feature off.
Any solution is desirable, I will even give "patches" a go if they offer a solution.
Thanks very much for your assistance.
Regards,
Davo

Don't you just hate snoopers. I mean people leaning over on the bus and peering over your shoulder at your text messages as you access your text inbox on your jasjar.
Wouldn't it be nice to just turn that auto preview off on text and email messages someway, somehow?
People, be careful in London, those snoopers may be more interested in your JJ/Exec/MDA/VPA/M5000 then your messages!
Hey, London's not that bad!
tell u what jah, I'm more worried about my messages than my jasjar, although someone would have to be very very brave to try anything with me,
anyway I'm actually always in the car with it, I would like some real super duper voice activation software, I know of all the standard ones but I found on my xda fonix was the best, by the wa any ideas how to turn the autopreview of messages off by the way
Anyone who snoops is risking a fat lip from me.
Nobody has any interest in the content of your messages.
They are only considering how many of them its going to take to hold you down while they mug you.
I usually give them full eye contact and ask solidly if they'd mind f** off.
It usually does the trick.
Also beware of the honey trap snooper gaff. ie. attractive lady snoops as a means to get into a conversation. She then starts asking questions about you, your life, where you live, what you do etc.
I've known people who've lost everything to gangs in this way.
And no, I am not exaggerating.
Where is the auto preview? Can someone post a screenshot? I've never used my universal for messages, so I've no idea how it looks. I'll see if anything can be done about it if it's possible.

Isn't it just a case of turning off "display" in the notification settings for New SMS messages? I set it up for my CAR profile on PocketZenPhone and it works a treat, so it should just show the notification icon, but NOT display the message bubble.

Haha!!
hi guys, ok I've taken some time to catch up with the thread that I posted on snoopers and auto preview.
I think there's been a bit of confusion on the definition of auto preview. let me explain
When you access your messages be it text messages, mms or email, you will notice that when you go to inbox, the messages are displayed showing you the sender, directly underneath the sender you will see the message contents without actually entering the message.
I suppose its exactly like outlook where there is an option to show you the message directly underneath the subject line and not in a separate preview window.
I basically want to turn this option off as by default wm 05 shows you the message without opening it.
Help appreciated
Cheers guys
Hi, all...this is my first post and for the subject, I don't think I could have chosen a better one...
I am in the process of looking for a new SMS program...I would LOVE to have the O2 SMS Plus that comes with the new Atom, as it is EXACTLY what I'm looking for...threaded SMS in a chat style...However, until one of you clever folks decides to take on the project, I guess I'll be waiting a while.
JGUI has a product called EXSMS that also performs this task, however, I find it cumbersome to work with, it is not totally stable and there's no use of Contacts, nor is there an immediate way to reply to the individual who SMS'd you, without going through the arduous process of manually entering in the number of the person you wish to message EVERY time you want to message someone different.
Any ideas? I'm also VERY open to a really, good, solid SMS program that doesn't necessarily do threading....
If you haven't tried Mobliza it lets you set automatic SMS responses and it can even contextually respond to texts. It is a free download from http://get.mobliza.com/
In the first mode you can use one of the preset responses to texts like "Hey Doug, I'm driving right now I'll get back to you in a few minutes" and it will fill in their name automatically. You can also add your own message (which it will save so you can pull it up later from a drop down menu) which can also have name, date, time auto fill-ins.
The second mode is a contextual response to texts so if someone emails you “Are you trying to be smart?” it will automatically respond with something like “Why would you ask me if I’m trying to be smart?” so you don't even need to be there to respond. It’s a pretty novel idea and it works well in practice but obviously it doesn't make plans or think for you
You can also respond to senders, in case you need to respond to them, right inside the app. Also, you can tap the conversation window to call the sender back.
There's a more complete writeup located here: http://www.fuzemobility.com/a-better-way-to-respond-to-texts-mobliza/
The developer is very responsive to feedback so feel free to provide it here, directly at the developers site or on the FuzeMobility thread. Enjoy.
Hey guys I have the HD2 but when I have about 40 messages in the inbox from one person and i am opening the text they have sent, even though im touching the phone to write a reply the phone takes ages before it actually lets me write the reply.
Has anyone else had this problem and is there anyway I can speed it up? I find it hard to believe a £500 phone takes this long to load messages!!
Many thanks
Just a quickie. This is a known issue for HD2. Note that there are (at least) two different "SMS issue", so when you search the forum, be sure to look for the right one (SMS lag or lagging).
Look here first
As far as I know, there is not a fix yet. I don't know if the latest hotfix from HTC fixes it (the "hidden" radio update, that is). There not a fix, but there is a trick... Just when you launch the SMS tag, directly tap on the "send SMS" button => A pop window will ask you if you want to send an empty message => you obviouly answer "NO" => And bam! All the SMS are loaded and you are ready to write a new SMS or view the old ones...
Definitely a software related bug. Please report it to HTC, as all of us should...
Many thanks for it mate. Looked therough the thread and yea its the same!
Its a silly bug to be honest as sms is one of the most important aspects of a mobile.
How this got past htc's supposed quality control I have no idea.
Thanks for the tip though! And yes i will be emailing htc with the issue!
Hey guys,
As previously stated, I'm a noob, so I'll be posting some dumb questions (after searching and reading stickies, obviously...) over the next few weeks/months as I get used to the Legend (aka the JesusPhone). One of the things that sucked most about having an iPhone was the fact that there's no real community around apple products, and having people at XDA help you out is one of the best parts about WinMo/Android ownership.
My question concerns an app called SMS Popup which somebody in this forum recommended. It's great - wakes the phone on SMS, gives lots of settings and options to customise the popup that appears, etc. I'm having one really annoying problem with it though.
I've got the app set to mark the message as Read when I hit Close on the popup that appears upon receiving a new SMS. This way, when it's a short message that I don't need to reply to, I don't need to both going into the messaging app to read/delete it.
Except it doesn't work.
Whenever I try to do this - whenever I close a message, or choose to reply to it - the messaging app on my home screen has the notification badge for 1 unread message.
Has anybody else encountered this problem/could anybody suggest a solution?
Not a big deal, but kinda annoying, as I have to manually go in and either read or delete each message to make it stop reminding me that I have a message I've already read.
Cheers
Try reinstalling. If it still occurs, the problem might be in the settings or it is a bug.
Try Handcent SMS...
This is a known problem with phones that use HTC Sense UI, as HTC does not offer an API to tell the home screen icon to "refresh" itself. The message itself is still likely being marked "read" if you go into the actual messaging app.
There is an FAQ covering this on the SMS Popup google code site (search for "sms popup android faq" (sorry I can't post links as it says I'm too new).
