I never experienced this problem. Not noticing too much of difference with this new File Explorer. Oh well, it's good to have the latest I guess.

Ok, spoke too soon, it locked up my HD2 killing taskmanager.. Only seems to happen on 6.5 and 6.5.3 etc. & if you close it while viewing the storage card. There is a thread discussing this and no one has found a fix for it...yet....

it depends on your settings: either it just minimizes or closes the application.

NOTE: Also the v2.07 doesn't seem to preview the picture files anymore either on newer roms. I reinstalled v2.06, and will just add the exception to the task manager, that seems to keep it from locking up too along with making sure your not on the storage card when closing...

really? if this is real than thanks man you are awesome!
Wow, is this possible - 22 MB .cab?!? Downloading now. Has anybody tried this yet?
trying now... its a jar file, so its a java browser like opera mini...
Edit: there is actually an exe that runs.. but it definately has some errors with it.. it didn't show up in my programs folder, but it it is program files/fennec
Is this real?

This is a beta, not what we're expecting next week.
It's a .cab not Java, it installs without a shortcut so ran from the program folder .exe for nothing to happen except loads of RAM to be consumed, may be because of install to SD but being 24MB then surely thats where it will get installed..... Well maybe the poster never tryed it? As no screenshots etc lol
I downloaded and tried on my Tilt. Started to run, screen when to checkerboard like page was loading, then app shut down.

It actually installs to Programs > Games
soft reset is definitely required. I can load a page but once I get there I can't navigate without getting checkered boxes everywhere and then the crashing begins...
so from what I'm reading is that it's practically useless then....is that so?

Still didn't run
My games folder loaded and did look through them all, must have been a slight overlook
My HTC Touch is to slow for this. Can't get further than the checkerboard screen.
Supposedly it's for VGA only, esp. the Touch Pro.
Although I doubt that will slow down the XDA developers much...
From their wiki: "We are targeting a Milestone release for the first week of February, targeting the HTC touch pro."
Loads fine on my fuze, installed it to main memory. I'm uploading a cab with the shortcut installing to programs instead of games too.
Did crash when i tried to load the facebook page. gonna test it out a bit.
Download Mirror
I posted some pics here: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1737
it's very unstable now though.

Actually what we are getting next week for the TP is the beta version. So if this is the same version, it is Beta, if not, then it's a very late alpha version.
I am salivating, but it is obviously not setup for QVGA. However I am sure it will come soon... yeah...
It runs like crap! Hopefully that's not the version being released next week.
It crashes a lot...

Can be a bad setting that create those crashes.? what's your opinion.?
The cause of this problem is \Windows\htcapi.dll. Uninstall the program that put it there and you'll be fine. Or just delete the file. If it came with a custom ROM rename it to something like htcapi.dll.bak.

This .dll is attached on other critical component inside the PDA or i can change the extension without any problem .?
It's not part of stock ROM, doesn't exist in your device as it comes from HTC. It's added by some programs like "Diamond Hologram", some tweaks intended for "optimizing" device performance, and sometimes ROM chefs include it in their custom ROMs. So if you get rid of it some programs will stop working. I've never seen an important program use it though, so it's safe to at least try. The problem with this dll is that it's taken from some other devices and isn't made for HD.

Ok i've changed the extension and soft reset..the browser seems to be ok now.! i've tryed to open/closed 3 or 4 times and the phone won't crash..! amazing.! but, why this .dll create this conflict with opera.?
I have no idea why this conflict exists, but generally if you take a driver from one device and try to use it on another you're asking for trouble.

Oh is right.! have you seen that in April will go out Touch HD 2.? the camera will have flash.! but i think that the Touch hd 1 remain the good choice..what do you think about.?
This is completely off-topic, but yes, I think HD2 will be my next phone. And yes, HD is a very good device to my taste.
but i am having problems with opera in default rom which is from orange
and even updating with new orange rom opera is not stable especially after enabling plugin in settings of opera
its all with out tweeks and moding
I have no idea what that Orange ROM is like. If there htcapi.dll in \Windows? If yes, rename it and see if it helps.
Apart from that, what plugin are you trying to enable?

unable to find file htcapi.dll in windows folder
i do not have exact idea of these plugins(i believe it to be java ) but opera settings >advance settings have option to enable plugins
The fact that there is a setting doesn't mean you have to change it, especially when you don't know what you're doing. Just disable them and live happily ever after.

I'm wondering the exact same thing myself mate.
Can no-one help?
Another here who misses the 'Quick Menu'.
There's a lot of talk on not being able to shut down programs that are loaded into memory without now having to launch the Task Manager first, but this was all part of the same HTC Task Manager.... you either closed it or brought it to the front.

Yes, I'm well aware of those topics. I've contributed to some myself.
What I am saying though is although there is a lot of talk on this no one seems to mention the Quick Menu's acxess list.

I agree. If the memory management is so super-duper that it can leave programs open and not have a detrimental effect then that doesn't help me switch between them on my MULTI-TASKING smart phone now does it!
I just want the quick menu back. I hate the idea of having to flash a ROM onto a phone that I've had for less than a day, just to get some of the functionality that I expected to be standard.
You can switch to running application by running it again.

I've been using a very similar OS for over a year now, and have always been able to just click the down arrow in the top right of my home screen for a list of running apps. This is what people are asking for, not work-rounds.
Besides, if the app in question is in a sub-menu of a sub-menu of the start menu, then it becomes a real pain to run it again. It's quicker to stick the task manager on your quick links on the home page and use that (despite the fact that that is ANOTHER app running, and we don't have access to exclusions any more either).
Dr.Sid said:

Yes but this is exactly why there is an issue in not having a 'Quick Menu'.
Running them again you have to open Start then find the program (of which if you have many, many programs/games can take quite a bit of effort).
Much simpler to just open the 'Quick Menu' and click on the already opened program.....

this is because you have installed somthing that dumped allot of and or modified allot of the files in the windows directory...
I don't know what is the problem. I'm removing the device from the usb port without setting it for safty remove from windows options. When i'm ready i unplug the usb cable directly. Is it possibe to harm the device in any way? Are you doing the same fazi78?
I had the same problem with 1.48 rom. I upgraded to 1.72 and the problem was solved.
Yeah .. it's just windows after all. There is just a lot of files there. Some software can make it even worse.
But there is also problem with sorting. Sorting by name is fine. Sorting by type is so slow, it did not finish in 20 minutes on my phone (had to reset and modify registers, because it remembers both folder and sorting method).
Thanks man, it was from the sorting! Mine was type sorting, switched it to name and problem is gone! Thank you!

This has been a problem for a lot of people, including me, on many different Winmo devices. This is the first promising "fix" that I've heard of. Where did you find and switch the sorting method?
Thanks in advance

open up file manager (default file manager) see the top right? where it says name with a little arrow? click that.
If something seems too good to be true, chances are it is.
That setting would really only be likely to affect the speed at which File Explorer searches for things (and maybe PIE if opening a directory with it). But at any rate I've never changed that setting on any of my PDAs or Phones and have seen the slowness of opening the Windows directory with many different apps, including FE and PIE, Resco, NetFront, PocketBreeze, etc. But it was worth a try. Thanks for the quick reply, I just wish it had been the magic answer.

I have had the same problem and i changed it to sort by name and "bam"...problem solved thanks a lot:d:d:d

So, ROM 2.10 allowed for the following tweak:
HKLM\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms and changing the value of 11nModeDisable from the default 1 to 0
2.13 has locked this in the registry! Any thoughts? I want this back!!!

Yeah, the key still exists for me too, but it states that I do not have rights to change the parameter! Is that possible or do I need a new regedititor?
I am using "Mobileregistryeditor."
Have you tried just using BSB Tweaks, that allows you to turn on N.
To be honest with you (and this may sound crazy here), but I am always leery of installing Cabs. I would rather know the registry tweak and do it manually so I can undo it later if I don't like it!

Here's a tip: you can always see the registry edit and and any other changes a cab is going to make, before you install/run it.
Just put a copy of the cab file on your PC desktop, then click to open it, it will open just like a .zip file. Inside you will see a file called "setup.xml", drag that to your desktop and click to open it. It will pull up a browser window/tab, and show you the full set of instructions in that cab, including names and locations of file installs, as well as reg key changes.

To the poster who noted faster drain, everything I have read states that it actually drains less for some reason when this is enabled.
